Looking for a good dealer [From Sunnyvale to Redwood City]
Hello Everyone!
FINALLY I decided to buy an RX-8!!!
I'm looking for a dealer...
I'm planning to buy the car somewhere around from Redwood City to Sunnyvale area...
Would you recommend any good dealers that you bought an RX-8 from?
Thank you!
And it would be perfect if you can post the price you paid!
Actually, if there's any good dealer in SF, please also tell me!

I didn't buy from Putnam Burlingame but they have 8's out the ***. Give them fair price above invoice and call it a day.
I bought mine in SF, only one dealer there, I don't think were you buy matters one iota.
Cars in inventory:
Sunnyvale Mazda = 14
Royal Mazda (San Fran) = 11
Putnam Mazda (Burlingame) = 45!

I bought my car at Putnam in Burlingame. Ask for Rebecca, she treated me well and got my RX-8 for a fair price. Tell her that Tamas sent you there and to give you a good deal too
i got mine at putnam, mostly because they had the car i wanted.
oakland seemed more eager to deal on price. it took over an hour and a half i had to walk out twice to get my price at putnam, which seemed excessive since i offered a decent amount over invoice. but you dont really know until you get in there and deal.
anyway, i have been extremely happy with my car!

I do a ton of parts business with the Parts Manager at Almaden Mazda. He has been very helpful with my RX-7s, 20B FC, and JC Cosmo. I can't speak for their sales department, but the parts shop is great! I think the actual name of the dealership is Kevin Delgrande's Almaden Mazda / Kia. You might want to talk to Ralph first, tell him Brad referred you and ask who he might recommend on the sales floor. Just a thought.
For those of you who paid some $ amount over invoice, were you then charged additional fees such as Advertising cost and Destination charge on top of that? Are these types of fees just wiggle room for the dealer or is it a legitimate cost for them to charge?
Destination charge is already included in the price of the 8 at invoice.
Tell them what you want to pay (invoice or nominal fee just above). The only other mandatory fee's you should expect are state/local taxes and in CA there is some sort of tire tax.

Go to Oaktree Mazda at Stevens Creek in San Jose. Talk to noone but John Kappelowitz. He's a great guy. He is very professional and not pushy at all. He is very knowledgeable too. It was cool how he explained the rotary to me coz he owns a red convertible FC.
He made sure I had a great deal coz he knew I wouldn't buy if I didn't. He's not a typical car salesman I tell you. Good luck!
ps. I got mine for $24,988 :D

Short reply:
Do not pay anything at or above invoice for any car on the lot, period, and to get the best price, demonstrate that you have all the patience in the world, go on the last day of the month , and go to the dealership with the most cars (Putnam or Menlo) if they have the one you want. Even Royal Mazda (low stock) told straight on the phone that they are selling theirs below invoice (this was after I told them I had bought mine already so they weren't just trying to drag me in)
Long reply (my experience):
For all Bay Area dealers, they will tell you that invoice includes a $150 fee. Most will pretend they don't know what it is and just say it's a port fee or something, as the sales manager at Sunnyvale told me. They are bull$#%ting. Yes their invoice charged to them by Mazda includes this $150, but that $150 is an advertising fee, and they want to pass it on to you. They know people are trained not to pay extra fees so they pretend it is just part of the invoice and plead ignorance on the rest.
I started at Val Strough (Oakland), my salesman wasn't exactly speedy in helping me out, though he is a nice guy. I tracked down the car(s) I wanted, went to Sunnyvale to deal and they wouldn't go lower than $500 over. Well, guess what, a week and a half later they call me back and say they'll meet my price ($200 over). Too bad for them I got an identical car at invoice from Menlo Mazda - also loaded with cars just like Putnam. Yes, I did pay "their" invoice, which includes the $150, but only b/c I was so picky about the exact car I wanted and it hadn't shipped from Japan yet. Anything on the lot, the guy was willing to go three to five hundred under since I went on the last day of the month and he wanted to meet his quota.
IF I had been more patient I could have saved two to three hundred probably, but at the possible expense of not getting the exact car I wanted (black w/Sport - which is relatively rare!).

I purchased mine at Putnam Mazda in Burlingame for $24,989 -- titanium grey, 6m, standard package w/rotary accents. I went in once alone and was initially offered the same one for $27k. After walking out several times and haggling for over an hour with no favorable outcome, I came back the next day with my mom. A short time later, I was offered $24,989 =)
I'm pre-law at UC Davis; if I can scrounge together half the negotiating ability of my mom, I'm sure I'd be one very successful lawyer in the future! Asian Mothers...a force to be reckoned with.
