I once heard a terribly sad story of a man who tied himself to a boat and jumped into freezing water to rescue his brother who was drowning after the brother was swept overboard in a fierce storm. The Coast Guard was heading to the scene, but had not yet arrived. When the Coast Guard arrived, only the man who jumped in died. He drowned when the boat rolled and capsized, then quickly sank. His brother and other crew were rescued.
