Last week I didnt have time to do my own oil change so I went by the jiffy lube next to my gym and just have them do it. The bastards left my radiator cap off...thank god I noticed it on time before the car overheated and created another serious issue. Pisses me off to think that if I didnt noticed and overheated and damaged my engine they wouldn't hold themselves responsible. "If you want something right u gotta do it yourself".

Yea , they screw something up in my Saturn a few years ago . Have never been there again.

Back in the early 90's they use to be pretty good [at least the one I use to go to] but over time they started to go down hill. Many people have gotten burned by them either doing a half-butt job or just plain old ripping people off and not even changing the oil.
Sad.

Say what you will about the dealer but they always seem to do a good job on oil changes although it takes them about an hour to do it.

If i don't take mine to the dealer i go to my friends oil change spot cause he hooks me up and always does the job right ;)

Just filled up the water this morning...Bastards broke the tip of the coolant reservoir so the cap wont stay on. Now I gotta buy a new one. Anyone have one to sell me?

@ OP: No offense but you took you're car to Jiffy Lube to save time? Assuming they have a human working on your car you should be able to do it just as fast - the wait time. Then again we all live and learn. I hope your engine gets fixed and your 8 rides strong again.

The one thing I will always go to the dealer for is an Oil Change. Trust no one else

It takes 15 minutes to do an oil change.. I don't have a garage or anything. I do it on the street.

I use the floor jack to lift the right side of the car up until I can get 1 jack stand underneath.

Got a container for the oil, just reach under with a 19mm socket and undo the drain bolt. Let it drain. In the meantime replace the oil filter. Tighten the drain bolt back on.

Refill.

Done.

I used to do it when i first bought my car, but i just have no time with work, and girlfriend/family.... so now i just take it to the dealer for the oil change only.

I do it at my dads job I dont have tools at home. But Im going to buy some so I can just do it at my house from now on. BTW the engine was never damaged I noticed it on time

You should actually jack up the drivers side, so the oil goes over toward the drain hole...by jacking up the passenger side, a good amount of oil stays over in the other side of the pan when you are trying to drain it. Result...you still have a quart plus of dirty oil in the pan.

The alternative that I usually use, is jack up the passenger side, position the pan and remove drain plug, then lower the passenger side so the pan can drain fully. Then raise it back up, replace drain plug.

damn i thought everyone knew not to go to jiffy lube. everyone i know that has gone there has a horror story or two to tell.

The only times I go through Jiffy Lube or Valvoline drive-through would be when my daily beater has its fluctuating Check Engine light for cat-related issues.

Any reason why you don't go back to Jiffy Lube and demand that they pay for the damage? You might not get anywhere, but it can be lots of fun to yell and scream at the manager. Especially if they're busy and you can do it in front of other customers.

I didn't know you put oil in the radiator.

^Well, that is the new advanced method they are using at Jiffy Lube don't cha know

the one down the street from me is really good and the people there are good as well. Only thing they do is try to get me to buy stuff I don't need and they always tell my wife there are things wrong wit hthe car that really aren't wrong so they can get some people to the garage next door.

I won't ever take the 8 there though for an oil change. My wife's shitty Subaru can though.
