man, the dealer put 10w 30 in my car and i have a bunch of 5w20 at my house can i mix them or no?

When I take mine to the dealer I request 5-20. If they don't have it, they have the auto store to deliver it at no extra charge. If Mazda wants us to stick to there guidelines then we can make the dealers supply the proper parts and lubes. I personaly would make them change it twice, on them.

I don't think its a big deal. Some other guys on the forum have had the same issues.

I have my oil changed @ 1500 miles, sense not all of the oil gets changed because of the oil coolers.

you can mix the weights... and yes oil is always left in the cooler and lines. 2nd gen turbos had a 6 quart capacity but you would always do an oil change with 5 and be left with an extra quart... the rest was in the cooler!

Why would not a Mazda dealer put the recommended oil in your car? Should we be concerned? Pulsr, where do you live? I'd think this would be a greater issue in colder climates.

I agree with mmmdowning. Take your car back to the dealership and have them change the oil and oil filter on them. If they argue tell them you will take it up with Mazda Corp. I would not allow my dealer to put anything other than recommended fluids in the car.

Your rotors use the oil to help lubricate the seals. I wouldn't change the oil for anything and you should not mix oil. Next I suppose the dealership will tell you that it's ok to mix full synthetic oil with conventional. Or better yet you can just mix a little oil in the gas tank to help lubricate your fuel injection system.

Just wondering. How would you (or any of us) know what oil grade they used? Can we depend on them to honestly tell us?

My dealer showed me what they were putting in when I asked them. I saw what weight it was and they were very accomidating when I asked to see the oil first.

Being that only about 60% of the oil is drained when you empty the oil pan, if you plan on using synthetic oil you will end up with a mixture of conventional oil and synthetic oil for quit some time.

Let's say you change with synthetic from oil change 1.

Conventional oil 100%
Oil Change 1: Synthetic 60%/Conventional 40%
Oil Change 2: Synthetic 80%/Conventional 20%
Oil Change 3: Synthetic 92%/Conventional 8%
Oil Change 4: Synthetic 97%/Conventional 3%
Oil Change 5: Synthetic 99%/Conventional 1%

It will take you 5 oil changes using only synthetic oil to get to 99% synthetic oil, unless you can find a way to drain the other 3 quarts that doesn't come out when you pop the plug on the oil pan. I hope my math is correct :p

Mazda had better get on this issue pronto.

If the dealers don't stock/use the 5w20 oil, Mazda can be penalised.

This is a link to a document the EPA sent to all manufacturers when GF-3 oils became available, and the car makers used them to claim the extra '4.2%' efficiency they allow.

Basically, it says that car makers can claim the extra efficiency ONLY IF -

*The MANUAL states 'only 5w20'
*FACTORY FILL is 5w20
*Oil companies keep supplying 5w20
*The FILLER CAP says 5w20
*Your dealers STOCK and USE 5w20

i think i had the same problem only with 5w30 not 10w30. if they are lying they're not too good at it.
