View Full Version : New RX-8
messix 01-07-2004, 01:46 AM Hey guys,
Just wanted to say hello to everyone out there. I've got my RX-8 on order (since mid december) and it will be here in a couple of weeks. We went the winning blue leather with AT (for my better half - she can't drive a MT and I don't really want her learning in the RX-8 :-) ). Anyways, I was wondering how many of you guys reside in qld, and of that how many are around the CQ area?
Hymee 01-07-2004, 02:13 AM Welcome messix!
In Qld we have a few qld members:
I'll let them respond persoanlly, so I don't leave any out!
Not to sure about any in Central Qld though.
Cheers,
Hymee.

I'm in Mackay, where are you based?

Hiya deano,
I'm in rocky, just a quick 3 hours drive away (maybe 1 and a half in the 8 :-) ). I'll be heading up there not long after I get the 8 to show my brother who lives up there so if you're interested we could go for a cruise or something? My brother will probably want to join us, although he's more of a muscle car fan and has an XY GT HO....
deano 01-07-2004, 08:03 PM Sounds great, I've got a hotted up Astina at the moment. There is an RX8 coming into the Mackay dealership in the next two weeks - I've got my name on it as long as I can get rid of the astina before then.
Take a look at www.cruisingmackay.com when you get a sec, my car is featured on the front page. If you know anyone who might be interested send them the link :-)
Deon.

I'll keep an ear out. Not many people I know are after a done up astina, mostly r32's or fairladies. something they can buy and get into themselves.
Looks like a sweet car though. must be hard to sell with all that work done to it!!!!

Its a bit of a limited market I guess. The problem with anything turbo'ed is it costs a fortune to insure, plus the added costs of running and maintaining something like an r32. Imports tend to be very tatty - a friend up here just bought the "best" gtr he could find in Brisbane and it is an absolute mess internally.
I've got people interested in the sound system, so the car is $19990.00 with standard sound unless someone is quick and I still have the system in it.
If you know anyone who might be intersted send them to www.cruisingmackay.com to check it out - am keen to move it in the next couple of weeks.
jeffneil 01-09-2004, 11:32 PM Congratulations messix - great choice - you will not be disappointed I can assure you - be prepared to get stared at everywhere you go - especially by Monaro drivers ! I haven't got into the paddles on the steering wheel much myself as I find the transmission does a great job by itself...the car is superb.
Regards
Jeffneil - driving a Winning Blue auto and extremely happy with it -especially now that I turned the interior rear view mirror upside down as it was too low on the window - MUCH better if any of you have that problem.
Hi Messix,
I am in Gladstone and own a Velocity Red RX8, one of the local Dentists has a Titanium Grey, I have also noticed another Red one in Rocky when i have been up that way, so there are a couple of us in CQ.

Hiya bjw,
Yeah, I've noticed a few in Rocky. There's a black, vel red and yellow getting around. So I guess between the 2 towns that gives us 6 (mine making 7)!

I think mine in Mackay will make 4 here - I think there is a few up in Townsville. I saw one on the highway in Ingham last week.
messix,
how have you been coping with the wait until your RX arrives. I found that reading this forum was a great way to pass the time until you get that phone call saying that it has finally arrived!!!!

Yeah it's been great to have something to read about them and the occasional pic as well. Saves me having to go down to the Mazda dealer to keep looking at the one they have on the floor :-)
Should be here on the 21st so I've only got one more week to wait...

It's a vel red leather pack manual. I don't think it's done any driving but I have started it a couple of times just to hear the engine while waiting for my blue one.. :-)
They must be getting sick of the sight of me by now....

Mine came in today, titanium grey. I took it for a test drive today. The dealer still has to clean the car and sort out the registration. I should pick it up on Tuesday hopefully.

I'm so jealous of you Deano! Hopefully mine will be in the shipment yours was in and it won't take to long to travel through the next 300k's :-)
Glad to hear you got it though! If I get mine this week I'll be heading up there on Friday Arvo, Sat and leaving Sun morning if you were interested in catching up and going for a spin or something?
<weird reply warning>
beware sliding to the starboard side, you can easily bang your head on the door frame if the rear end grips too quickly.. the key is to just keep spinning till you're running straight forward again so you don't get that whip and head smack..
</weird reply warning>
hi by the way..

messix 01-20-2004, 05:22 PM Well guys,
Today was supposed to be the day we drive away in our new rx-8 but I've been told that it's going to be another week or so until we get it. They can't be anymore exact then the 'week or so'.
Needless to say I am a tad dissappointed :-( Oh well, it's worth the wait..

Leather and floor mats, I wanted those side things that go on the air intake, but refuse to pay $400+ for 4 little bits of metal.
Had a lot of trouble getting someone to insure it, had it down to RACQ and Just Cars, going with RACQ. Lots of other companies wouldn't do it or were quoting crazy figures. Not sure if its my age or the type of car. I'm 25.
I'd say it is your age AND the type of car.
You could try Shannons ...

Shannons wanted 3k - they recommended using Just Cars who the guy said they were partners with. Just Cars wanted $1500, RACQ wanted $1150. NRMA wanted 3k, I called every other insurance company I could find and none of the others would touch it.
Have gone with RACQ.
Deano.

lol! you to!! I'm going to go through RACQ. I've been with them since I first started driving so even though I'm only 24 they did give me a pretty good price - only $200 more then the Wrangler.....
