Hey everyone,

College is starting up soon and right now I am debating on whether or not to get new tires.

I just recently purchased my 8, only had it for a few weeks now. I'm not sure exactly how much tread is left on my tires, however I already ran over a nail and have a nail in my rear driver's side tire :suspect:

I have been trying to price tires and I have found some good deals, but I am not the smartest when it comes to knowing tires. And with school starting next week, I want to make sure my tires are going to last me awhile and not have to worry about nails.

Can anyone recommend me a good tire within a reasonable price that I can depend on?

Well winter is coming up and I live in MD, so it will be cold and possible snow...ugh.

As for miles, it will be able 40 miles a day to and from school, not including anywhere else I drive.

Blizzaks if its gonna snow, which... it might. Lots or Precip lately.

Edit: My Post is misleading, Blizzaks are good for winter all around, cause they have very good softness retention in cold weather.

What about for the warmer weather? I could get Winter Tires now and then for the Spring semester purchase Summer Tires and just switch them when needed.

Any suggestions for Summer tires?

You have to decide whether it's in your budget to have 2 sets of (wheels?)/tires or just get an all season setup and go with that. Since you mentioned wanting to keep it on a reasonable budget I would assume you are looking for a single year round tire. If that is the case I would look at kumho ast's.

I think if I were going to have 2 street tires right now it would be the blizaks and the kumho XS's.

Visit tirerack.com for really through ratings and reviews of tires. Also some excellent reference info if you're not familiar with tire grade ratings, etc. They've got very good prices.

Where in Maryland are you? Baltimore or DC burbs? Western Maryland? In the eastern part of the state all seasons would be a good bet. If you need real snow tires, then you'll also need a separate set of summer tires,

I just looked on TireRack and found a set of Kumho Ectsa ASX Blackwall w/ Road Hazard for 524.16. I think that is a good price.

Maryland is way south of here, so All Seasons should do the Job. Not my personal preference, but should be fine. Just keep DSC on, and slow down for conditions.

That's what I figured. It was about that on my old car for new tires.

Now I just have to figure out where to get the $600 for everything. :mdrmed:

yes, that is the stock size tire and will fit fine.

another good all season tire EXCELLENT in snow is the CONTINENTAL EXTREME CONTACT

If you're going to buy from Tire Rack, look up the installers. They give the mount and balance prices.

It would cost me around $19.50 to Mount and Balance each tire pretty much anywhere I go around where I live.

In Maryland you can get by with all season tires, that way you don't need a dedicated Winter set.

Yeah I really like these Kumho's that I found. I'm trying to see if I can afford to dish out around $600 to buy the tires, have them shipped to me, then have them mounted & balanced.

I've used toyo proxes 4 for commuting 20 miles (each way) from work to school to home and have had great success with them; they were really good all around as far as dry traction, wet traction, snow traction, but the best part is the tread lasts forever. I would highly reccommend them for your situation.

Im currently using the Kuhmo SPT's and they are awesome. I got a bit of a deal at 500 for them but I would diffidently buy again

Westlake durable grips and they are cheap!

All good choices, but I would pick the Toyo's.
