RX8Lover 01-06-2004, 02:15 PM yeah, we watched it at work today, which my boss wasn't too crazy about... jtimbck2 01-06-2004, 06:02 PM They're WAAAYYY overpriced! IMO, for a 4GB iPod the price point should be around $169. I predict a flop unless they lower the price. Good grief, at $249 you can get a 20GB iPod for just $50 more! cueball 01-06-2004, 07:57 PM I was really disapointed at the price. I was about to buy the 10 gig model, but heard about the new mini I-Pod so I waited. I was expecting it to be $200 max. When I saw the price today I was kind of pissed. I will probably end up buy the 15 gig now because they droped the 10 gig and filled the price slot with the 15 gig model. I guess waiting was worth it.:) G8rboy 01-06-2004, 08:19 PM Originally posted by jtimbck2 They're WAAAYYY overpriced! IMO, for a 4GB iPod the price point should be around $169. I was shopping around the last couple months for a mp3 jukebox (mainly for the RX8), and today picked up the RCA Lyra 40GB device. It's larger than the ipod and weighs a bit more, but 40GB at $299 can't be beat. It has a USB 2.0 port so it's fast as crap, and can act as an external USB harddrive with no special drivers needed. It also comes with a car kit, decent headphones, and holster... not a bad package. I'm organizing all my MP3's right now... :) velociti 01-06-2004, 08:30 PM I was expecting those things to be about $50-$100 less expensive than they are. I don't think the form factor will influence people much from spending an additional $50 bucks and more than tripling their storage space for the 15 gig. Seems silly to me, but people will probably buy the thing at that price. I'll keep my 30 gig, thank you... ang 01-06-2004, 08:52 PM I want one How hard are they to install? OmegaBob 01-06-2004, 11:04 PM Sony will be introducing the new HI-MD audio format at the CES! Basically, they will be 1 gig minidisc players! BTW - that's 8 hours of music on ONE disc in SP mode. Triple that in the long play modes. Thanks Sony! MDs are here to stay! MiniDisc.org (http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=3513) OmegaBob 01-07-2004, 08:56 PM The official Sony press release: http://news.sel.sony.com/pressrelease/4270 A feature that's been standard on many MD players and recorders for some time now: "And speaking of battery life, Hi-MD Walkman players let music fans make the most of all that capacity by providing up to 30 hours of continuous playback using just one "AA" battery (MZ-NH600D and MZ-NHF800). " Psylence 01-08-2004, 07:52 AM Who cares about the ipod.. they are still worthless after 18 months. www.ipodsdirtylittlesecret.com cueball 01-08-2004, 09:34 AM Originally posted by Psylence Who cares about the ipod.. they are still worthless after 18 months. www.ipodsdirtylittlesecret.com That is if they are charged every single day and they MIGHT go dead after 18 months. I know several people that have had them for over 2 years and they are still going strong. Besides, it is only 50 bucks to buy a replacement battery and you can install it your self. Racer X-8 01-08-2004, 02:45 PM OmegaBob - Hi-MD Walkman players: Sounds like they can transfer live recordings (via microphone) to computer fast, instead of the real-time transfer rate like they used to be, which is why I don't own one yet. Sounds like those types of recordings transfer like file copy/move from a portable hard drive = real fast. :) I might just buy one of these...thanks for the info.!!! MP3Guy 01-08-2004, 03:33 PM I would look into the Rio Nitrus at 1.5 gig or the Rio Karma- they are rechargeable and have good ratings from C/Net and other reviewers. Plus, you won't be stuck with Apple's codec. I just bought their "Chiba" 256Mb unit with an FM radio for just $143. Sounds great, and I can always expand it by another 500Mb. Don't go too crazy about storage. You can add or delete songs from your unit so easily, it may not be as big a deal as you thought- at least that's my experience. Smack 01-08-2004, 03:47 PM From what I hear you can still buy the 10gb Ipod by calling apple or going to an apple B&M store. They reduced the price on it to 249$ and you can get a 30$ educational discount with student ID which would take it to 219$. Its tempting...
