I'm looking to see what everyone is using. Any ideas which has the best features and is most accurate? Im aware of a yamaha (?) one at circuit city that does 0-60, 1/4 mile, 60', 60-0, lateral G's, etc. I think it would be cool to have. I plan on taking my car to the track to see what it does, but this may come in handy for reference.

thanks

GTech Competition Pro (http://www.gtechpro.com).

Bought myself one for Xmas. Does pretty much everything you'd want. Easy set-up/calibration for up to 4 vehicles you can move it to. Accurate to within 1/10th of a second. Actually more accurate than a floor dyno because it takes front wheel rolling resistance and air friction into the equation. Does everything you mentioned including torque/HP, drag reaction times, and includes shift/lateral adhesion limit lights if you want to activate them.

1.) Plug it in your lighter, enter the configuration menu, and enter Gross Vehicle Weight Rating off door jamb sticker/plate minus 180lbs for each available seat not in use. (A scale weight is far more accurate.)

2.) Enter engine redline RPM. Rev engine to 2 specified RPM's and enter them.

3.) Calibrate the g's by setting up a fake launch, move forward about 6-10 feet, end the run and the lat/long G bars should zero out(if on flat ground).

4.) Find a long, flat cop-less road, set for launch and have fun. You can "Go on Green" or go whenever you're ready, as long as you are perfectly still when pushing the start button. The unit stops "recording" acceleration automatically upon braking force, but still records 100-0 or less including G's. It encourages you to speed so be careful. 0-60's(feet or mph) are safer around town. Blow your launch or hindered by traffic? Delete the run and try again.

5.) Download the data to your PC and print/export to Excel if you want(Why they include a serial cable instead of USB I have no clue).

It's a cool toy and yes, it senses the rotary engine ignition pulses thru the lighter socket very well. :) Pretty pricey tho. You can buy the original G-tech on E-bay for about 40-50 bucks, but it doesn't have half of the Competition's features. It can also be confused with a radar detector if you are in a banned state.

I'm also using a Gtech Competition Pro and have so far been pretty happy with it.

They recently set up a forum (http://www.gtechproforums.com/forums/) on their website and if you have any specific questions you would get answers from their "experts" and also a larger pool of users. :)

COOL thanks guys. What kind of #'s are you getting from your stock rx8?

I am sooo looking at one myself. 250 is some spare change, but I think I would like the toy. And hell, it's not like I havent spent more than that on something I never used more than twice (PDA's anyone?)

If you read through the Gtech forums you will see that there are a lot of variables that can influence the numbers and make it hard to directly compare them to official time slips. So with that in mind here is a screen shot of my best time.

When I receive Canzoomer's Stage I fuel controller I'll do a few more runs (before and after install) to see what difference it makes.

whoa, nice run Racer! Stock with just the Borla? Nice job standing on the brakes at 116mph, LOL!

And if you don't want to spring for your own G-Tech share the cost of one with your local car club buddies.

Nah, I'm gonna go pick one up later today. Just looking at the software for other products and playing with the g-tech one I decided it's the better one for me. I just hope the cable runs long enough to hit the rear socket as I dont have a lighter anymore :D I was also chgecking supprt forums and such and it seemed like a better way to go for the same price (g-tech comp pro). And I AM in Florida, land of the long flat highways, so it should be pretty easy to get consistent values.

Toadman,

That run was done before I installed the Borla exhaust. So at that time the car was bone stock. :D
