I can't find my manual, but I think it's the CEL - it's directly below the temp gauge, an amber light that looks like a cup w/ teeth on the bottom and an exclamation mark inside, and when it turns on it beeps at me 5 times. So shortly after I turn on the car, the light turns on, and at first it would go away after a minute or two, but it's staying on longer now, like today for my entire 30 mile commute. I have a pocket code scanner and it's showing 0 codes. Do I need to update the code list on the scanner? Aside from the main interface, it has no other ports for pc connection.

 

tpms? that's the only one i know of with an exclamation point.

don't know about the beeping. can you draw a pic of it with ms paint or something.

i think a cel always looks like the check engine light -- it looks like an engine. there is no exclamation point. flashing cel would indicate misfire.

 

The light you ar describing is the Tire Presssure Monitoring System (TPMS). It will beep on startup to let you know that pressures are low. Reason it went off at first is that when first going off the pressure in at least one tire (or more) was 4 lbs low. As you drive the tire heats up and the pressure rises, the light goes off. Now that it is staying on, the low tire(s) are low enough that when the tires heat up it is still more than 4 lbs low. Check the tires and fill to 32 lbs.

Cool, thanks for the info. Glad that's the answer, and no, I haven't checked tire pressure since I got the car. Hopefully I'll get a nice increase in mpg when I get them up to spec. Isn't it better to have the front and back tires at differing pressures?

 

I keep my pressures at 32 all around. Note if you set the pressures too high it will also give you the warning light (I think it may be 4 lbs over). In the winter, I run my snows at 36 per the owners manual (I have different wheels without TPMS so I live with the beep and light all winter, but I do put a little electrical tape over the light...)
