please tell me more about the flooding issue and I heard the 2005 had changes done to starter...????

04RX8man 08-09-2009, 01:12 PM Welcome to the addiction....1st off please add your location...
glad you decided to go with the 8 nothign wrog with the rotary, usually the only reason ppl talk against it is because they have no clue how or why it works. To avoid flooding just be sure to let it warm up before you turn it off....basically when the temp needle has moved a few lines you're safe...
Yes there is a warranty for 8yrs 100,000 miles so I guess that's 160,000 km....
rodjonathan 08-09-2009, 01:54 PM welcome to the addiction ... the flooding is totally avoidable just make sure the car is warm before you shut it off ...
lil amne 08-09-2009, 01:58 PM Welcome to the club! The 8 is a facinating beast, and I assure you, you couldnt have made a better pick of a car!
Atilla 08-09-2009, 01:58 PM welcome to the addiction! congrats on the buy! Please take note there are several Threads and FAQ's that have been 'stickied' for references :)

Hidef1080 08-09-2009, 02:30 PM Congrats and welcome :icon_tup:.
Alexb 08-09-2009, 02:34 PM I avoid flooding by revving to 3k letting it fall to 2k and turning it off at 2k with throttle released.
mcdee 08-09-2009, 03:07 PM hey .. wow!!! thanks all for being here... I feel part of the addiction already!! no pics YET!!! I live in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada!
anyone close by??? ok ok ... so make sure car is warmed up before turning it off...got it! Alexb.. the throttle comment.... explain ( sorry- just learning all this!!)
I drove a turbo MR2 for ... are you ready.....18 years!! it was so good to me.... 247km and it finally had its last day! sold it as is to a great guy that love MR2 s and will take time to restore her and.... maybe race her...ahhhhhh my baby!! oh well new baby...coming on Wed!! can't wait .......thanks again for replying .... I hope to chat with you guys more.......
04RX8man 08-09-2009, 03:28 PM ^he is talking about if the car is COLD as in backed it out of the garage to wash it and want to shut it off right away! SUPPOSEDLY if you rev it up to about 3k rpms let off throttle and shut off so it revs down and releases all the "excess" fuel injected at startup out the exhaust ports and will keep it from flooding but trust me once you start driving it you'll just learn and ENJOY to take it for a drive around the block to warm it up before shutting it off...
also as long as all the PCM reflashes are done it is SUPOOSED to take care of the flooding issures but I personally wound't trust it!....best way is to make sure the coolant temp needle has move a few lines/notches before you shut it off...
oh and like someone said above...PICS OR IT DOESN'T EXHIST(when you get it of course!)
ken-x8 08-09-2009, 04:23 PM the throttle comment.... explain
If you don't drive it far enough to warm it up, you let it warm up by idling for a few minutes (til the temp gauge reaches its usual position), then rev to 3K for 10 seconds before shutting down. That blows out the crud that forms when you warm by idling.
The procedure is described in the Quick Tips book.
If you drove it and it's warmed up, just turn it off.
Ken
heyarnold69 08-09-2009, 04:29 PM You in Canada? You may want to invest in a new battery... stock one sucks in cold weather 35R optima... you'll have no issues. Also get the updated coils and spark plugs. also wires.
mcdee 08-09-2009, 04:35 PM overload guys!!! wow!! thanks for answers!!

lil amne 08-09-2009, 04:52 PM Check the for sale thread. There is a guy selling the rims and tires for 800.
04RX8man 08-09-2009, 05:30 PM Blizzak's are the best winter time IMHO!!!!...and personally I'd use your stock wheels for winter and find a nice set of aftermarkets for summer with some good gripping tires!!!!!!

Rote8 08-10-2009, 08:10 AM LOL, Everyone says "Flooding"
My 07 has never, ever flooded. (Before or after supercharging)
I have had hard starting with some fouled plugs once. (new plugs ended the issue)
Change the oil every 3000 miles, change the plugs at the first sign of hard starting.
Running fouled plugs will kill the coils.
ken-x8 08-10-2009, 10:23 AM ...where is this Quick Tips book??...
Should have come with the car...but if you bought used you're lucky to get the owner's manual...or even the jack and other loose parts.
US owners can sign up at mazdausa.com, and get access to pdf versions of the owner's manual and quick tips. Don't know if that works for Canadians. If it doesn't, PM me with your e-mail and I can send you the one I've got for my '06. It's a little over 1 MB.

brucejohan 08-30-2009, 05:54 AM can some one tell me how to determine the model of rx 8 i.e its year of manufacturing ? rather then the seat belt method?
ken-x8 08-30-2009, 11:16 AM There's a letter code in the VIN that gives the model year. It's the tenth character, and for 2003 through 2009 it's 3 through 9. There should also be a sticker in the door pillar that gives the month and year of manufacture.
What's the seat belt method?
Ken
brucejohan 08-31-2009, 03:42 AM thanks for your help Seat belt method is that seat belt has a sticket which shows year of manufacturing but i was worried that may be this is seat belt manufacturing date despite of car manufacturing date......
