View Full Version : Mazdaspeed Aero and BS
Catspaw 08-06-2009, 04:04 PM Hey guys, just like the title says is it possible to run an 8 equipped with the genuine Mazdaspeed aero package in B-Stock? I was reading a few other sites and from what I gather it seems like appearance trims offered by the dealer are ok, so I was wondering if that applied to the Mazdaspeed parts as well.

Dealer installed parts are not ok, only factory or port installed items are legal in stock. The Mazda installed appearance pkg would be legal, the Mazdaspeed body kit would not.
balefire 08-06-2009, 07:29 PM i bet if you ask your local competitors, they probably won't care if you run BS with a MS kit since it does nothing performance wise. just make sure you run BS legal wheels too.
if you run anything bigger than local (divisional, regional, national, etc), you will most certainly have to run in another class (e.g. STX)
Catspaw 08-07-2009, 03:20 AM Damn :( Thanks, I was planning on getting a set of OZ Ultraleggera 18x8 +48 to run in BS, but I guess I could just go for a more aggressive rim if I'll end up in STX anyway
chiketkd 08-07-2009, 09:12 AM In STX, the rim width limit is 9.0". Tires must have a 140 treadwear (or higher) and be up to a 265 width.
Catspaw 08-07-2009, 05:21 PM Hey chiketkd, thanks for the info. Right now I have huge 19x9.5 ADRs with 255 Kumho Ecstas, so I'll have to change those out regardless I guess. Btw, I like the look of the gold Ultras on Galaxy Grey :) Do you use those for daily driving?
EDIT: Hmm just thought of something... if I were to run some events with my current rims (19 x 9.5), what class would that put me in? I'm kind of dreading the answer lol
S0l08 08-07-2009, 08:03 PM I think you can run STU or BSP.

+1 Or even SM.
Catspaw, thanks! I owned two Subarus before, so I have a thing for gold wheels! I just use them for racing.
S0l08 08-07-2009, 09:11 PM 3 prior Scoobs here:ylsuper:
Catspaw 08-09-2009, 08:55 PM Ha, that was actually the first thing I thought of when I saw it, very rex-ish with the STi gold rims :)
Got another question for y'all (figure I might as well limit them to one thread); after reading around I noticed a lot of people are running 17x9 in STX. Is there a reason, besides weight, that there aren't more 18x9s? I ask because Fluid Motorsports has a good price on the 18x9+30/40 Buddy Club P1 SFs, and I'm considering getting a set.
chiketkd 08-09-2009, 09:40 PM No reason other than weight and price. A set of 17x9 wheels along with a set of competitive tires, will cost significantly less than a comparable set of 18x9 wheels and tires.
Only downside to 17x9 wheels is that no competitive ST tire is available in the max allowed 265 width tire - only 255's. However, with 18x9" wheels many competitive tires are available in a 265/35/18 size. From what one of my local STX autocrossers has mentioned (was one spot outside the trophies in STX last year @ Nats), on a 9" wide wheel, his 265 tires put down ~1/3" more tire than a 255.
So they're pros and cons with each choice.
