Congrats to the folks at NASA! The Mars Rover SPIRIT is alive and well and transmitting pictures from the Martian surface. In the next few days Spirit will start driving around and exploring. The only thing cooler than driving my 8! :D

It's awesome... especially in light of the several recent not-so-successful attempts like the Brit's Beagle II. I just finished watching an excellent NOVA program on PBS about the Spirit mission. It'll be replayed Wednesday night if you missed it: Nova-MARS Dead or Alive (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/mars/)
Let's hope Opportunity lands safely as well!

yeah the nova special was great! I loved the size of that wind tunnel! whoa.. the wind tunnels I am used to are much much smaller than that!!
As a fellow enginerd I appreciate all the hard work that goes into building something that needs to work on the very first and only time it can be used.
