Race in August! (2009, Seattle Area)

The race this weekend thread seemed to work out really well but I don't want to flood our section with a similar thread for every cool weekend. Instead, I was thinking we can try rolling with a Monthly racing thread. Post or PM any events I miss and I'll add them in!

I'll also try and keep up with who plans on attending what event, figure I'll update that once a day. If it's too much of a pain in the ***, I'll stop. Regardless of if I update the Members planning on attending lists, we can use this thread to organize meeting up to go to an event etc. as well. The Tacoma Mall Krispy Kreme has worked out pretty well for Bremerton based events. Southcenter Mall would work out better for Packwood events for those going *** early. Click the location link for directions to any of the sites. For PR, click the directions link on their site (it's in Java so I can't link straight to it).

Membership Requirements:
  • Alfa Events: No Membership Required
  • BEAC Events: Must be a Boeing Employee
  • BSCC Events: Must be a BSCC Member [$20 Membership]
  • Porsche Pacific Northwest Events: Schools - BSCC Membership or Porsche Club Sponsor or Membership required, Lapping and Autox - Membership required
  • Proformance Racing School: Must be a client for all non-school events, going to a school makes you a client.
  • NWR SCCA Events: Membership Required [$10 Weekend memberships available on site, full memberships available online for $45 or $60, up to 3 weekend memberships can count towards a full one]
  • SCCA Oregon Region Events: Membership Required [$10 Weekend memberships available on site, full time memberships must be Dual Region]

Pre-registration varies from Event to Event. Pre-Registration is always cheaper, sometimes required, but not always available more than 2 weeks before the event. Always check the link for a given event.

Remember to Bring:
  • Oil - During the lapping days you can burn as much as a quart! Autocross days are less, but it's still worth topping off at the beginning of the event
  • Sunblock - Especially for the autocross events where you'll spend half the time working the course
  • Water - No matter what the event, it's going to be hot in your helmet and car
  • Helmet (If you have one that meets the requirements) - All clubs require a helmet, some will lend you one in exchange for your license, others will charge you money to rent one. Helmet Requirements (always double check the club's listing!):
    • AutoX - Snell Approved M2000 or higher
    • Lapping - Snell Approved SA2005 or higher
  • Cash - At almost all Bremerton events, the local Rotary Club will show up and serve cheap burgers, hot dogs and Philly Cheese Steaks but they're cash only
  • Your Checkbook - All autocross events that involve timing equipment have a rule: If you car touches the timing equipment, it's a $100 fine payable on the spot. You can sometimes run and pick up money from an ATM down the street but it's easier if you have your checkbook handy.
    • Don't be intimidated by this, in reality, I've seen this happen twice this season and I've never seen an RX-8 do it. The club doesn't WANT this to happen, so they setup the course to try and prevent it from happening
  • Gas
    • AutoX - 1/2 tank or more
    • AutoX Practice - Full tank
    • School - Full Tank
    • Lapping - Full Tank

August 4th:
  • BSCC Board meeting (Show up and show your support for RX-8 club members running practice days!) [Round Table Pizza, Gig Harbor, WA, 9pm]
    • Members planning on Attending: Anijo, Dondo

+1!

Both of us have been through it once already and are going again anyway.

Should I add details on where each event is?

These events are open to all members of the following car clubs, their spouses, and their family members: PCA, Alfa, Audi, BMWCCA, Corvette, Ferrari, Mini, PDC, or Viper car club. PCA members may sponsor guests. All participants must be age 16 or older with a full, unrestricted drivers license. No permits are allowed.

It's a lot of money up front, but you also get a lot of instruction. I felt it was a bargain afterwards, but that's me. The all day open lap actually is $260, the $125 is if you hire an instructor, which you have to do your first time back.

This is great anijo. I will remove these events from the Seattle area RX8 calendar and just keep that for meet ups or other events other than track days. This way it is not duplicated throughout the forum.

We've had really mixed guidance on that but so far it seems like you don't really need a sponsor for the schools, just the real events. I'd register online and if they email you back asking for a sponsor, we'll worry about it then. I'm pretty sure I can find another sponsor through work, or convince my sponsor to sponsor anyone I'm willing to sponsor to him.

Nice work. This is sweet.

I'll be doing the Aug 7th BSCC practice day and the Aug 27th Alfa lapping day for sure.

I'll probably doing one of the events mid-month but i'm not sure which yet.

I'm tempted to do the NWPCA skills day on the 8th but

Well that's convenient. A BSCC membership is worth it anyway for the practice days and it's only $20.

BSCC has another of their autox schools in October, I'm hoping they'll let me in to that one because I really want to do a bunch of runs with an Instructor in the car again. I'd feel bad asking for an instructor at a real event because there are only ever 2 of them and there're usually a lot more people who need one.

Cool! I forgot about the helmet rental... that seems a little obnoxious of them. None of the other clubs ask for money for them, they just loan them in exchange for your license and give it back when you give back the helmet.

It's true, but the other clubs have to buy new ones sometimes too.

It's totally worth it We might see if they'll let you swap back and forth with another participant, but I kind of doubt it.
