View Full Version : Mazmart's Interesting Projects
LionZoo 07-22-2009, 12:51 PM I'm hoping to use this thread to get Paul to give us sneak peaks at projects that Mazmart is working on. We all love the RE-medy pump and I'm sure there's other stuff Mazmart is working on. Of course my personal motivation for this thread is to get updates on a certain Miata project he's working on. If he wants to share information with the public, please do. If not, let's delete this thread.

We will soon (3-4 months?) introduce the full series of the ultimate apex seals for the Renesis. Right now there aren't many options and especially for forced induction. Our specialty in this area is related to material compatability, strength and natrual lubricity. I promise that there will be no equal to this series. Of course these are from Iannetti who make the ceramic seals used by all the top teams in the world.
The MX5 is needing some fuel pump testing and we hope to have it running this weekend in time for my big Miata meet.
Paul.
LionZoo 07-22-2009, 09:01 PM The seals sound sweet. Not sure I'll be in needing to rebuild my engine anytime soon though (knock on wood). Iannetti seals are somewhat expensive, but I guess that'll be another entry on the "If I win the lottery" list.
I am keeping an eye on that Miata at the moment. If you ever get the chance, please put it on a scale simply to see the weight and weight distribution difference. That's going to be one sweet vehicle and I think it'll have some popularity if it's really as easy as you say it is.

Spewing this wasn't ready 2 months ago. Just finished rebuilding my engine but couldn't wait.

So sorry Auzoom. Maybe next time.

Any details on what these seals are made of? Considering they're coming from Iannetti, we can only assume they're going to be expensive ;) Are we talking a new material or a more refined ceramic?
Spill the secrets, Paul! Or I'll find you at 7stock... and try to convince you with beer!
Jedi54 07-23-2009, 05:56 PM Pablo,
you're such a tease!
c'mon man, spill the beans.
quazmosis 07-23-2009, 06:02 PM Word up here in the midwest is the new seals are made of pure Granite Rock. Could be a rumor though.
Jedi54 07-23-2009, 06:08 PM B.S.!!!
I "heard" they were made out of adamantium! Hell, if adamantium is good enough for Wolverine, it's GOTTA be good enough for our cars, right?!

There will be more than one type of seal with different price points. Quality costs but these are for the purpose of widening the market to allow more to play.
I don't drink beer and I'll just restrict the details that are shared with Mr Engman:naughty:.

Always a good time out there. I hope and pray to make it as usual.
Paul.
Jedi54 07-23-2009, 07:56 PM Paul,
as usual it'll be a pleasure to see you at SevenStock.
Maybe I'll have Emilie bring the Massage chair. I'm sure we can get more info out of you that way...
Can't wait to see / hear the details on these.
Razz1 07-23-2009, 08:00 PM The tested seals will be a nice addition.
rotarygod 07-23-2009, 08:01 PM The seals are made of Unobtainium.

I can always do with a massage. The right shoulder is improving drastically but my left is acting up now (Damn old age):cussing:. I can bench the full stack on every machine in my gym for 10 or more reps so I'm definitely on the mend. I don't care what Emilie brings; a shoulder massage is like a gift from above.

Paul, while I would love to have used your seals, I am hoping that I dont need to rebuild my engine again :)
Cheers

Are you using the NC driveline or the RX-8 driveline? The guy in Australia that's building his own seems to be using a complete RX-8 driveline, but it seems like the NC components can probably take the RX-8 power.
Rote8 07-29-2009, 04:06 PM The seals are made of Unobtainium.
I vote for cermet, the real, explosively consolidated powder type cermet.
It seems to have disappeared from the Google... LOL

Combination. RX8 motor and trans. MX5 driveshaft and diff. I won't initially make more than 240 whp so I should be OK.

PPF integration will be tough in this case...

Slightly modded MX5 PPF. Nice and easy.

Nice. I like the idea of using the Miata PPF since it's aluminum and hence intuitively lighter, though I could be wrong...
Mazmart 08-01-2009, 03:57 PM She's alive! Project RE-MX5 that is. I ran it for more than 30 minutes today. I still have much more work to do though.
Follow me on twitter. Just kidding
Paul.
LionZoo 08-01-2009, 07:41 PM Nice. I suppose a twitter of this wouldn't have quite as many updates as a normal twitter. Nonetheless it's good to hear the rotary is running.
By your estimation, would it be possible to run this swap with a normal RX-8 ECU? I know Hansamobile in Germany is supposedly doing that. The reason I ask is I need any swap to pass CARB, which means factory ECU and all the factory smog equipment.

I'm currently running a Racing Beat modified RX8 ECU. 09 RX8 parts would be quite interesting for this swap as well.

Oh. I thought you were running a piggyback. Good to hear that you're running a stock RX-8 ECU (relatively).
Wouldn't the 09 be relatively similar? I know there's all that third injector jazz and all, but they swap over too wouldn't that? Considering the improvements to both the 09 NC and the 09 RX-8, this would be an interesting thing indeed.
zoom44 08-01-2009, 11:36 PM nice sound it made:)
RotaryFiend 08-03-2009, 03:14 AM hehe, "my wiring genius"
I guess interfacing the mx-5 stuffsz with the rx-8 ecu was a fun superwire solderpalooza, but I need to be able to make it more 100%'d. I don't even think the tach was working :tear:
@!!narotordo 08-03-2009, 04:46 AM ahh is it blue like the one in japan ;)

The tach works fine.

oh, i should've figured you pansyfoots wouldn't rev the thing... I couldn't tell in the video if the tach was working or not, it didn't move much except for the start-up sweep thing...

My dear son (And talented wiring GENIUS), instead of making your big chested internet statements :), why don't you come down here and see it in person and BE in the next video.

hehe, I didn't realize my chest had gotten big enough that even the internet noticed! I'd like to come see it run in person, hopefully sometime this week.

LionZoo 08-04-2009, 12:17 AM Was the K-frame changed on the 09 RX-8? If that is still the same, the engine should still bolt up right? Even better, it goes with the transmission it was already designed for, the NC transmission.

Same K frame as previous. What I'm suggesting is an 09 engine actually. The NC tranny is not the same but rather family just as the original RX8 trans was derived from the Aisin 6 speed from the NB Miata. The NC 6 speed I took out is built by Mazda and yet when I installed the RX8 Aisin gearbox it fit perfectly with the shifter arriving exactly where it should and the driveshaft splines from the Miata are identical. Two different manufacturers and identical dimensions (Or close enough).

Well I'll agree to that. With the improvements to the 09 engine, it would be a no brainer to try to incorporate it if you have access.
olddragger 08-21-2009, 03:44 PM this is such a sweet project---you have to see it to appreciate it.
2500lb car with the renasis engine. Huge amount of room in the engine bay. Once the connectors are completly done heck a swap package could be sold. i would consider it.
this engine looks like it was made for this car

RIWWP 08-21-2009, 03:54 PM I'm hoping that Mazda releases a rotory driveline option for the MX-5. I think if it was rotory only, it would kill alot of the current popularity and wreck havoc with the various series it is used in. But I agree as well. The 13b and the MX-5 go together way too perfectly to ignore. It wouldn't surprise me if they were supposed to be produced together at some point in time, and money, economics, or politics got in the way.
Danny's detailed build in Australia is a prime example.
I'll be watching this build as well!
LionZoo 11-27-2009, 03:24 AM Any updates on this project? It's been a few months and I think a few of us want to know how it's going.
Also, do you happen to know how much the NC's MZR engine weighs? It seems there's no data point on that. It would be interesting to know just to try to calculate a rough delta on the weight change with this swap.
