We are currently working on a Mazda Corral for the season ender @ VIR. One again ,we are looking to have parade laps on the track, plus we are also setting up a viewing party with Freedom Autosports. At Mid-Ohio, Mazda owners were allowed to bring their chairs and watch the race in the Freedom Autosport paddock, where lunch was served and your beverage of choice.

Everyone brought their own food and drinks, we of course shared what we brought with the team, as they have always been gracious hosts for our events. So you can check out the all of the racing on the 50" HDTV in the paddock.

Also, we are looking to have a Mazda Corral Appreciation day as well, where we will be giving away Piloti shoes, KONI/Rolex swag, Freedom t-shirts, and we are looking to see if we can get Hoosier to give away a set of tires as well

It should be a great weekend for racing and we look forward to seeing all of the NC, SC, Virginia Mazda owners come out to the event, as we will be having some of our Ohio contingent coming out to join you.

So stay tuned for updates for lodging ( yes you can also camp), pricing and a schedule of events for this great weekend @ VIR

Awesome Marlon! My car club has handled the meet for GT Live the last 2 yrs at VIR. It would be great for this to all come together. Count me in!!!

*edit*
Hey Marlon, GT Live will be going that weekend. I'll handle that side of the event if you would like, as I have been dealing with them the last couple years? I'll be able to get the entire group kart time also...the GT Live crew have really hooked our group before.

We've been involved for 3 years actually. The first year MazdaSport mag handled the meet/parking passes and what not and we promoted.

Count me in. My current plan is to be there the entire weekend.

Cool, I hope this works out. I haven't seen the whole "GT Live" thing this time. Are there going to be other supporting events like time attack & drift? My daughter wants to go back again, but mostly for the drifting.

Yeah I'm pumped up. October is right around the corner :). I'm going to be there all three days this year.

Marlon, any idea where we are going to be located? Last year for GT Live we were stationed in/around the Gallery, which was nice because there was shade.

It's probably gonna be around the same area we were at for the Rolex in April. Sadly Bobby, I'm only gonna be there for Sat and Sun...but we'll all get to hang out the entire weekend!

Just wanted to add, the discount code is for the Mazda Corral group rate. Don't worry about having 10 ticket purchases from your 1 group alone...it's cumulative for the entire Mazda group. We will have well over 10 purchases so don't worry about being screwed later for more money. :)

Happy Rotoring!!!

Yeah no joke! Problem, 2/3 of the Porsche owners don't know how to drive what they got! I don't think we'll even come close to the numbers like the Subie guys have though...ohwell, it'll still be a blast!

Yeah we should have a large gathering of Mazdas 'cause I just snagged another club into joining us. :naughty:

Yeah no joke! Problem, 2/3 of the Porsche owners don't know how to drive what they got!

If another Porsche gets in front of me and does 40mph down the back straight I will pass it and then let off as much rotary exhaust fumage as possible to let him know my displeasure.

I liked the gallery because of the shade and it's central to the paddock, the Patriot track, the skidpad & the Roller Coaster viewing. It's good as long as they let us camp with the cars. I hope they leave the Gallery building open overnight for the bathroom.

I8U
09-28-2009, 10:59 AM
I just wasn't sure if anybody had issues with the walking from there to the main paddock...others have said they like this location as well so, it's good. We won't be the only clubs in that area this year so we'll see how it works out.

msumlin
09-28-2009, 11:15 AM
As far as the location, I am not sure where we'll be located. I sent an e mail to Steve Focazio to see if he can find some informaion for me to pass along. Since this is an Octoberfest event, why don't we bring some type of local beers.

Since we are coming from Cleveland, we'll bring some Great lakes brew, as it is from our local brewery. What do you guys think? I talked to Tom Long of Freedom Autosports, they are looking forward to the event as well, should be a lot of fun, we'll see you in a few days!!!

The "message" I got from VIR was this:

Off Track Activities - Speed is only part of the attraction for fans for Octoberfest. Other activities include a 'sound off' competition testing custom stereo installations, a car show, a Children's Fun Zone, fan parties with live music on both Friday and Saturday nights, plus the Playboy Bunnies, VIR Girls and much more.

The Sound off and Car Show and Car Club Corrals all take place around the VIR Gallery. Located between the Patriot Course and the North Paddock the VIR Gallery will be the central location to park your neat ride in the car show, check out the sound off and see all the amazing rides expected to attend. Prizes will be awarded to the best cars according to our judges.

At the fan parties, music on the PA will start as soon as the track goes cold. Then the band Nex-Faze will take the stage from 7:30-10:30 on both Friday and Saturday. Nex-Faze plays an awesome mix of classic rock, 80's, 90's & modern rock and country as well. The VIR Girls will be at the parties with various give-aways for the fans from our sponsors. And what would Octoberfest be without beer? Special sponsors of the fan parties are Spaten and Leinenkugel's Octoberfest - two premium beers that will be served at the fan parties along with food for those that work up an appetite dancing!

So maybe we park at The Gallery again like last year? :dunno: I suggest just follow the signs when ya get there and look for a group of Mazdas!

I've also had lots of people asking me about the VIR car clubs part, like the hats, food tickets, Playboy Bunnies , etc... They're wanting to know where they are suppose to go to pick them up (not the bunnies) or what they are suppose to do and I was wondering if anyone had any info on that.

BTW, we're going to need a bigger boat.

Thanks Marlon!

We have 23 confirmed on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#/event.php?eid=127754261734&ref=ts) with 14 maybes and 14 who haven't replied.
I have 2 different Miata clubs that will be joining us Saturday morning for a caravan to VIR (which I've been told could be 15 cars or more) plus the people that are going to show up from those 2 clubs on their own for the event.
I have another Mazda club with about 10 people who say they are going to show up for the weekend.
We have everyone from here (some of which can be found elsewhere), the crew from the CVMC, and then hopefully a few from the INC, MSCCNC, the RX-7 Club, the Rotary Car Club, Mazdas Forums 24/7... and I posted it on MySpace today.

Plus whatever has been posted elsewhere by others...

So yeah I think we'll have a good turnout as well and it should be quite a bit of fun. Looking forward to it!

Since we are coming from Cleveland, we'll bring some Great lakes brew, as it is from our local brewery. What do you guys think? I talked to Tom Long of Freedom Autosports, they are looking forward to the event as well, should be a lot of fun, we'll see you in a few days!!!

This is a fine idea sir. My favorite local NC brew only comes in kegs :( but I'll see what I can drum up :).

Parade laps are listed as "1:10-2:10 Car Club and Spectator Laps (spotters versus full flagging)(pace and chase cars)" for Saturday. Any idea if we have to sign up at the VIR store if we're already signed up with Mazda group? I won't be arriving until about noon Saturday. so I don't want to miss out.

We are already signed up, I will also contact Steve Focazio of Grand-Am, to have him re-confirm our particpation. With that being said, we are going to need all of the particpants at the corral by 12:00 noon, as we have to sign waivers and have a drivers meeting, to review the rules.

Also, I will be arriving at the track early on Saturday morning to help organize the corral and to set up the paddock tours. If anyone needs anything or has concerns, please call me @ 440-382-3636 (cell). If I don't answer right away, please leave a message and I will return the call.

Marlon, I mentioned it to Nic. I got a call from Crista Walker @ VIR today about picking up all of our "freebies" for the group, hats and such. I told her I would get them Saturday morning if no one else had. It sounds like you are picking them up?

She also said we appeared to be the largest registered group with 39 cars! Mazda rules!!!

Greg and I are getting there tomorrow evening. I don't mind picking up the stuff if it would help Marlon out (one less thing to do is always a plus right :) ). I'll check back in here again tomorrow before I head out.

Yeah, thanks Bobby. That would help. When you get there, just make sure you get a hold of Crista Walker...she's got the goods. Oh yeah, I'm sure you know, but see if they can give an assortment of sizes in t-shirts...I'm sure L and XL will cover most in the group...but we have a handfull that will need smaller and larger. Thanks!

1-XL

1-medium

Thanks...

Also, please make sure we have organized parking in the corral, it does not mean that all of the 8's, 7's, etc have to be together, but I want us to look very organized, as I am going to see if we can get some photo ops with the VIR Girls, and also the Playboy Bunnies too!

Thanks for stepping up and helping out,.....once again, Mazda leads!

Steve Focazio is finalizing the meet and greet with Stevenson, so we can see the new Camaro first hand. For you youngsters out there, this Camaro is being driven by the sons of the original Penske Camaro back in 1969!

It should be a lot of fun and once again, I love the fact that Mazda owners have stepped up and claimed the highest number of registrations for the car clubs, says a lot about us! Great job, by all

We will also have paddock tours of Team MER ( Jason Saini is an owner) in the MX-5 cup, they'll also be stepping by to check out our corral as well. We'll see everybody tomorrow.

I just flipped through all of my action shots and sorry, no #19. Unfortunately I was focusing on the Freedom Autosport team since we met all of those guys in their pits. I got a semi-crash of a Porsche and a Beamer at the top of Roller Coaster, does that count?

Thanks to all that came out and lent a hand, it was great to see everyone again. I can say that Mazda, VIR and grand -Am was very happy with our group! As far as the parade laps, we were the best organized group, as eveidenced by us getting up to 90 MPH in the straights.

Also, it was nice to have "our club" do the gridding for the race, since we had the highest number registrants for the car club. I am guess I am most proud that we beat out Porsche, Cobalts, Mustangs and other makes and models. it did not go unoticed.

It was great that Freedon took first and third in ST, I think Mazda may have finished either 2nd and 3rd in the manufacturers championship. Also, here is some news for 2010, Freedom Autosport will be running 2010 Mazdaspeed 3's in ST, along with Team MER!!!

So we'll get to see the debut of the cars @ the 24 Hours of Daytona. As you know, Grand-Am is working on special pricing, infiled access for the KONI race and a host of other special events.

Again, thanks for showing what Mazda owners are all about, both on and off the track, we'll see all of you for the 24 hours race in January!

just got a conformation from Steve Focazio of Grand-Am, we will have full access to the stands on top of the garages for the KONI race, another Mazda Corral exclusive, for our membership.

In addition, we are working on the pricing fo rtyhe event, we will have our own dedicated Mazda owners campsite, tech talks with KONI officials, Pirelli, Hoosier and other sponsors. We will have our "private paddock tours" with the Mazda teams and so on.

So stay tuned for pricing, which we'll have hopefully in two weeks, as the folks at Grand-Am are excited once again to have the Mazda owners supporting both KONI and the ROLEX Series.
