View Full Version : Mythbusters vs Conspiracy theorist- The moon
alfy28 07-20-2009, 08:41 PM So the show Mythbusters is taking on the Conspiracy Theorist on if humans ever landed on the moon. so far 30 mins into the show, they have prooved that nasa did land on the moon.
so is the myth been debunked?
dozer 07-20-2009, 08:42 PM except for that one picture with the crosshairs
alfy28 07-20-2009, 08:48 PM hmm not sure what you mean. since i never followed this topic before, can you tell me about this crosshari pic?
Smoke Honda 07-20-2009, 11:42 PM Hell no.
myriadshalaks 07-20-2009, 11:49 PM you guys are retards. we landed on it. take that, russia!
carbonRX8 07-21-2009, 12:14 AM The moon is an optical illusion caused by reflection of the sun off of the methane oceans of Titan. This is a PROVEN FACT. Why we continue to believe the spoonfed lies fed to us by a gov't that seeks to control us through obfuscation is beyond me.
As for that MB show. FOllow the money. I guarrontee they are in the pockets of BIG OIL! Why? PEAK OIL!! They need to continue drilling to make the hydrogen used in the spaceshuttle to seed the clouds with silver nitrate. They want to cause changes in the atomosphere so that you continue to believe that we are buying oil overseas. The simple fact of the matter is that we continue to pull oil out of the sand....
Ok...I cant keep that up.

nvrfalter 07-21-2009, 12:21 AM ahaha hilarious while it lasted
If it was a scam or Hollywood stunt, and NASA never went to the Moon..then how come NASA made 5 more (whatever) Apollo missions to the MOON??
I guess all the launches hundreds of people witnessed with their own eyes were also a Hollywood stunt.
rx8phase1 07-21-2009, 03:18 AM did you guys see the discovery chanel special about this? it was pretty good they talked abut the shadows on the pics, and how it looked as if the astronauts were actually running here on earth when they fast forward there video on the moon.they also said how NASA protected them from radiation w a thin pieae of aluminum.@ the end they said that china will be launching a satelite to take close up pics of the moon so if theres no flag then the gov. lied
Flashwing 07-21-2009, 03:36 AM This is the proof you need we landed on the moon.
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2004/21jul_llr.htm
We definitely went to the moon.

maybe the first time was a set up to be the first..but as technology advanced we were able to do it without risking lives in the other missions???? idk??... my retarded theory on the topic...
MazdaManiac 07-21-2009, 07:23 AM 1) I watched it. So did MILLIONS of other people. In person, in Florida.
2) I've met a few of the Astronauts. So have MILLIONS of other people.
3) There is still stuff on the moon that we put there that you can see from Earth.
4) The reciprocal technologies that evolved from the effort are part of your everyday life.
5) Don't be a dumb ass.
Bigbacon 07-21-2009, 07:25 AM we went, here is why
-Russia never disputed the claim.
-We can't fake it 9 times and get away with it.
-All the people that say we never went never had anything to do with the program.
-The picture/shadow thing is different because the moon has no atmosphere so light doesn't act the same when reflecting/refracting whatever. We can't fake that on earth.
If it was fake, something or someone would have let some major piece of evidence slip by now. It's impossible to keep it a complete secret.
carbonRX8 07-21-2009, 07:36 AM I'd like to see a thread on the conspiricy therory around vaccines. I'll admit I am "biased" as I actually perform primary research on the topic, but I become gravely concerned when I listen to parents deliberately putting their children directly in harm's way because of some assertion that Jenny McArthy has made based on NO direct observation or experiment. And in direct opposition to all evidence at hand.
It is the same with all of these "therories." As above, it is easy, even educational, to attempt to replicatate conspericy theroists "arguements," or rather, circular ramblings that they contend support their claims.
These kind of things often cause me to go into a funk, as I believe that the existance of such irrational memes demonstrate our fundamental failure as a species and predicts the mechanism of our doom.
Flashwing 07-21-2009, 07:51 AM I'd like to see a thread on the conspiricy therory around vaccines.
The only one that I could recall is that you might get sick from the very vaccine you are taking.
I've stopped taking flu vaccines because it seems like every time I do (I've done it twice) I end up sick within the next week with....you guess it! The FLU!
Are there other theories? The government planting nanomachines in your body or something?
Ok seriously, who voted NO on the poll?
carbonRX8 07-21-2009, 07:58 AM Live viral vaccines, attenuated or cold-adapted, carry the risk of inducing the disease that you are vaccinating against. For flu, the disease is often mild.
The oral polio vaccine is a different matter. 1 in a million actually get the disease. That is why the developed world uses a parenteral vaccination for polio.
What I was suggesting was the "theory" that childhood vaccines cause autism. Autism is a very very difficult disease for the child and the family and deserves researcher's time. BUt the vaccine/autism link is disproved. Yet it continues.
I voted that I wanted to meet an alien.
RawrX8 07-21-2009, 07:58 AM We went to the moon here is the proof. Sheesh.

alfy there was a picture the astronauts "took" while there where up there, the controversy was over the fact that one crosshair was actually behind something as appose to it being in front
dozer 07-21-2009, 09:32 AM heres a pic i found
carbonRX8 07-21-2009, 09:36 AM Dozer. Read (http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/tv/iangoddard/moon01.htm).
That "missing" crosshair is an aberation from overexposure from the white antenna.
dozer 07-21-2009, 09:37 AM heres another one

i still believe they landed, but these pictures are out "tryin" to prove people wrong...i was just tryin to explain to alfy
carbonRX8 07-21-2009, 09:40 AM That pic even proves the point. You cant see the thin cross hair when it passes over very bright, white objects behind it, but you can see it when it is over objects that reflect less light.
Dozer. Are you saying that you agree that the moon landings are fake? Hmm?
Do you use dyno or synth?
carbonRX8 07-21-2009, 09:41 AM i still believe they landed, but these pictures are out "tryin" to prove people wrong...i was just tryin to explain to alfy
Just having fun. No worries.
alfy28 07-21-2009, 09:53 AM heres a pic i found
ty man, i never knew about those pics.
Huey52 07-21-2009, 10:12 AM Obviously man landed on the Moon 40 years ago. The sad thing is 1) we haven't done much since in manned planetary exploration and 2) the lawyers would never let us get away with such a risky undertaking today.

i wrote a short paper on it. through my own research, i concluded that there was too much evidence for it to be coincidence. nothing is 100% conclusive, but there were studies that provided some solid proof that were covered up and stuff like that. pretty shady. if i were to have kids tomorrow, i probably wouldnt let them have the shots.

We can't travel very far out of Earth's magnetosphere because of the hazardous radiation from the sun.
The moon is inside our magnetosphere. We need CONSIDERABLY better technology when it comes to hull materials, thrust, landing, life support, ETC before we can go much further out in space :)
I think a teacher once told me we'd need walls four feet thick of lead to protect us from the solar radiation outside of the sphere..

I dont see why the government cant fake this whole thing
look, so many "intelligences/proof" of Iraq having WMD ! Oh yeah Im :mchase::mchase:
They have nothing. Oh yeah.
Full of crap.
Not saying this moon mission is fake/real, I cant prove it. nor do I cared :P
but saying Government cant lie 9 times and get away with it ... :icon_tdow:icon_tdow:icon_tdow:icon_tdow
SideOfBacon 07-22-2009, 02:35 PM ^ they covered up transformers landing here on earth and destroying downtown LA.. and that was here in the states. how could they not be capable of covering something up that none of us (non-astronauts) can prove or disprove...
YaXMaNGTO 07-23-2009, 01:16 AM I remember talking to an old coworker many years ago about this. He seemed like a pretty normal, mainstream kind of fellow... never had polarizing thing to say about anything, and he was halfway intelligent.
He looked at me all freaked out when I mentioned the moon shot. Then he said something like "i don't want to talk about. You'll never get me to believe we walked on the moon, and that's it." I started to try to talk to him a little more, and then realized, oh shit, he's serious.
I lost total respect for him. It's so damn idiotic that I could never trust the guy again.
StealthTL 07-23-2009, 01:57 AM Conspiracies aside, NASA was actually prepared for finding aliens.......
Arthur C. Clarke's short story "The Sentinel" is actually what 2001 was based on - the premise that if aliens wanted to know when man had advanced to space flight, they would leave something obvious on the dark side of the Moon. The only way to find it would be to go there, and this sentinel object would signal man's arrival.
The story got the scientists thinking - obviously nobody had ever set eyes on the whole 'other side' of the Moon, and what if there WAS something there? An alien base? a giant pentagram? cities and canals?
Holy crap, what would happen if the astronauts orbitted back around the lunar horizon babbling about huge green monsters or the face of God? With a live audience of a hundred million on the radio, they had to cover the possibility to prevent mass panic (and keep a lid on any 'secrets') so they arranged for there to be a 90 second "communication failure" as the craft re-appeared.
Of course, they reported that the back was as boring as the front, and the worldwide transmission resumed, but the 90 second outage is a documented fact, and the reasons are on record - and that was as close as we ever got to finding aliens!
S
YeahYeahYouWere 07-23-2009, 07:29 AM Neil Armstrong is a member of the country club my girlfriend works at. Maybe I should just head over there one night and ask him?
Really though, I hear that he is just kind of a crotchety old man and just wants to be left alone at this point.
I believe we really landed there. I'll happily let the conspiracy theorists continue to build their websites (from their mom's basement, while they wear their tinfoil hats).
