I was watching a business program on Fox the other day and they were talking about carmakers. They said the carmaker to watch in 2004 is Mazda. They said "you CANNOT buy a bad Mazda in 2004."
They said in 2003 it was Infiniti. Infiniti sold something like 42% more vehicles in 2003 vs. 2002 due to the popularity of the G35 and FX45.
Just about every other carmaker increased sales by only single digits in 2003.

I have never owned, nor considered a non-rotary Mazda...and I probably never will. I love my reliable as death, relatively boring, excellent resale value Toyota's.

Oooh Famous last words.
They said the same about VW a few years ago and now look at them. They got too big for their britches, take the Passat for example It was on Consumer reports and JD powers list as the best Mid size familiy sedan. They sold so many cars that they could not keep up with the demand when it came to service. This is one of the reasons they did away with the free service as it was making them go broke!
Then they started to sell the W8 that was suppose to sell 5000 units a year and didn't even come close. So they decided to stop production early due to dismal sales. And lets not forget about the $70K Phaeton and the $50k Toureg. Who is realisticly going to pay that for a VW! Lets get real folks and take a lesson from our mistakes.
Now fast forward to today: Sales down 17% and sufferering from shitty service and support plus numerous recalls across the board for window regulators and the infamous coil pack debacle!

Ummm Toyota just passed ford for #2 in worldwide sales, their sales are up 7.4% while Ford's (the automaker they passed) are down 10.9%. 7 years ago Toyota was millions in sales behind Ford and GM, and now they seem to be closing in on GM. Also, since then ford has added Volvo, Aston-Martin, and Landrover to their lineup which did very little to fight off the hard charging Toyota. Toyota and Honda are hardly going down and may someday be 1 and 2 in worldwide sales should the current trends continue...

And VW production is down because of assembly line problems. VW says that this will be fixed soon, and will not affect Golf/Jetta MKV production ;)
