Okay, looking around in my garage I'd forgotten I still had these. The OEM clutch and flywheel came out of my 2006 RX-8 at 18k and have nearly full thickness remaining (measured by Centerforce). Flywheel needs no surfacing. The Fidanza flywheel was tried with an incorrect clutch disk, and as a result needs a new friction surface, which can be purchased directly from Fidanza. Charles Ray Hill used this same setup in his own RX-8 (OEM clutch on Fidanza flywheel) so we know the pieces work together fine. I'll find out from Fidanza how much the new friction surface costs. It simply bolts to the flywheel with self-centering screw-bolts. No need to rebalance the assembly, per Fidanza!

Did no one see this? LOL Surely someone out there with an 04 or 05 needs a new clutch by now, right?

The steel insert (friction surface) is $59.69 through Summit Racing (www.summitracing.com). The part number is 229501 (from Fidanza, ordered off the part number of the flywheel).

The STOCK flywheel weighs 17.1 lbs. The Fidanza aluminum flywheel weighs 9.8 lbs! With the 3.5 lbs counter weight installed from an automatic (from Mazdatrix), you're looking at a near 4 lb reduction in rotational mass on the end of the engine! This makes a HUGE difference in acceleration!

My deal also comes with a good throwout bearing. We pulled my OEM one off the shaft and replaced it, just because we could. It had no issues at all.
