View Full Version : Anyone interested in a PA Tri-State area meet?
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-02-2004, 08:39 PM Hey all,
A few of us were talking about a tri state area meetup - I thought I'd put the plan into action and created this page
http://www.time4design.net/RX8/rx8-meetup.asp
Where could we meet?
Depends on the scale.
Starbucks
Race Track
A Park (lots of space)
and so on...
What do we do?
Brag about our 8's
Discuss our modifications/improvements/car detailing
Photograph all our Rx-8s (this would be cool)
and so on...
SO...
I have a bunch of emails of those interested, and going to start listing those folks on my site - perhaps with a small detail of our age/occupations etc.
Just an idea!! Let me know if anyone else is interested!
Wayne
Senseny 01-02-2004, 08:40 PM I am interested. Lemme know. All of the above as far as events. Place, as long as it is within an hour of Philly I should be able to attend. I could bring the 7 and 8.
Yeah, could do. Depends when where and all that.
philly8 01-03-2004, 09:54 AM Sounds great! It will be nice to see some other 8s as there are so few around here.
GoT 1 - 2 01-03-2004, 01:36 PM Great idea! I'm in, name the place, date and time!
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-03-2004, 04:29 PM Great response! Well I am game for settin this up - Speed Racers meetup will be a good example - but we dont have to meet at Hooters :-) I know some great spacious places in the Langhorne/Yardley area, and a great place just off Route 1 next to a Mazda Dealership. Depends on where everyone is coming from and what we plan to do.....
Also, I guess will will get hard by snow soon with these abnormal temperatures ( 65 today) so we might have to wait perhaps till a better time.
Ideas?

Wayne,
I'm in. Any place any time.

Watch the weather. Give us a post with time and day about Wed.. We can respond with a go or no go.
Senseny 01-03-2004, 11:51 PM Wayne, I figure the person who goes through the trouble of organizing should have the honor of deciding where to do this. Name the time and place and if I am not working I will be there. Thanks for putting this together.
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-04-2004, 11:02 PM Ok. Heres my pitch. A time, day and location should be settled on so we can have as many people as possible to attend...after that we will keep an eye on the weather forecasts, just incase the weather gets inclement.
The closest dealership to me ( and I am located in the Yardley area) is Faulkner Mazda on route 1. Right next to that is "Chicke and Petes". Perhaps that would be a good eat spot. I usually have Saturdays available, perhaps if we meet during an afternoon we can meet at a park like I suggested earlier. If more of us cant make it till evening - perhaps Chicke and Petes will host aline of RX-8s outside their establishment :-)
If you send me an email at wayne@time4design.net or via
http://www.time4design.net/RX8/contact.asp
..i'll put the contact list together, inc info we all might need on each other.
Once I get the emails together and a overall feel of our time schedules, I'll
set the time and date.
Hows this sound?
Go4It 01-05-2004, 08:22 AM Wayne,
I like it. How's the response so far? All I need is a time and something to punch in the Nav. Good job!
John
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-05-2004, 08:24 PM So far the group is doing well, I have about 6 people on the list. You can find it on my site. Meanwhile I'll email you all once I have a better idea of whats going on...
..again, any other ideas are welcome..
h0rde 01-05-2004, 10:47 PM I'd love to come but I won't be able to until the end of April (end of the semester). If it'll be after that, then great, but that's quite a while from now. I'm in York (south central) PA.
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-05-2004, 10:56 PM York is only 2 hours away ...j/k April would be better, so I am think that the second meet would be then...keep us in mind Horde
Senseny 01-06-2004, 12:17 AM Chickie and Pete's on a Saturday works for me. That place can be a good time and there probably will be more to look at than just cars, if we stay into the evening. Of course, its fun for females as well. Sorry if I seem sexist, but I am an old married man and can't help it. Well, I am 31, but I am married.
Go4It 01-06-2004, 12:34 PM Looks like I could be the old man in the group. Senseny I have you by 22 years. Not to worry, it just keeps getting better and better!!!!

ok i will do that. I wouldn't care about coming before then if I were at home but I go to school in Pittsburgh and i'm not driving like 5 hours across the state, sorry :)
Senseny 01-06-2004, 09:21 PM Horde, where in Pittsburgh do you go to school. I am a graduate of the U of Pittsburgh. That 5 hour trip is nothing. J/K
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-06-2004, 09:23 PM well i am kinda inbetween - 29, not married - but sometimes I think I am...hitting the 2 year mark with the girlfriend, and well, you know the story...
so what do you think of meeting at this park I know of in Langhorne - just off Route 1, then we take south to Chicke and Petes?
If I hear an "aye" I'll sort out directions and so fourth. I think this thread by now should of earned a sticky "hint". Looking at the calendar, my next available saturday is the weekend of Jan 24th . Whats that look like for everyone else?
Senseny 01-07-2004, 12:08 AM 24th is cool for me. Unless something crazy pops up count me in for a meet and then Chickies
Go4It 01-07-2004, 07:41 AM I'm in.
80CuIn 01-07-2004, 11:12 AM I'll be there Wayne.
Al
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-07-2004, 07:36 PM I'll start to put the directions together ..watch this space.
r0tor 01-08-2004, 06:43 PM i may be interested... not much free time though
i'm actually going to be in Yardley the first week of Feb for a busines trip. other then that i'm up near allentown

Irish_in_a_RX8 01-08-2004, 08:32 PM Horde, I know Pittsburg pretty well. My girlfriend went to Carnargie Mellon Univeristy there - hear its a real party place.
Prober, prob will be afternoon of Jan 24th - hope to see you there!
Senseny 01-08-2004, 10:09 PM Horde, When you are back in the Philly area, give me a PM. A rotary owner and a Pitt student. I will happily buy you a beer!
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-08-2004, 10:57 PM Senseny I read in another forum your over in Glenside...is that right?

I'll be sure to check back in and see what's going on when I get back home so i can get to a meeting, surely.
Senseny 01-09-2004, 10:27 AM Yeah Wayne, I live right by the corner of Glenside and Keswick. Pretty conspicuous as I have a crappy (green and yellow siding) twin, but a FD and an blue 8.

I know the area well, I went to Beaver College for awhile back in 97..the Irish Pub was a local for me, I still stop by there every now and then.
ACOSTARACING 01-09-2004, 10:31 PM hey guys, if you all are really goin to meet up, i'll love to come down, My girl is not to far away from that mazda dealership. I'll bring my 3 rotor rx-8. let me know the day and time.
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-09-2004, 11:08 PM Ok guys, I have set up the directions and time:
http://www.time4design.net/rx8/rx8meet_directions.asp
I figured meeting at 2pm at Core Creek Park in Langhorne would be the best time during the day, and most probably the warmest 'part' of the day! Check out the link..I'll update it up to the 24th with any extra details that might be needed.
Should be an awesome day, lets hope it works out, and we get a reasonable day with the weather.

That would be great if you could make it. I am sure everyone else will agree!! Seen 'lots' of photos of your RX-8, lets hope it doesnt sell on eBay by the 24th :-)
Sounds great Wayne and thanks for organizing this. Great job!
Go4It 01-10-2004, 11:28 AM Great job, see you on the 24th. Think no snow......

Wayne
Hey Acosta -
Congrats on the bid on your three rotor!!! That's great, and I hope that you will come anyway, even if you can't bring it. Photoes and a description of the build would certainly be interesting to me.
All the best - Haze
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-15-2004, 09:44 PM Just out of curiosity, hows everyones insurance on the RX-8? Anyone find that its lower or higher than expected?

Wayne,
I was given a prelim. est. @ $431. The amt. after I bought ended up around $510. This is a six month prem. The Impala & Intrepid are both around $330 @ six months.
bostonm3 01-16-2004, 10:05 PM Hey, anyone mind if a non-RX-8 owner stops by to check out your rides? I live in Newtown, and am thinking of buying an 8, and would love to talk to some people who have been living with their cars for awhile. I took one home fror an 'overnite' test drive a week ago, and it was sweet--hated giving it back. I thought my '97 M3 handled great until I drove the 8!
Senseny 01-18-2004, 02:19 AM bostonm3, I would be happy if you came by and checked the cars out. Not speaking for anyone else, but I don't see what the problem could be. Hope to see you on Saturday.

Sure, a friend of mine is meeting us too, he drives a Z3 so you will not be the only BMW there.

Thats a great rate, who do you go with? Currently I am paying just over $1400 a year, was hoping to find a better rate.

AIG ......WE shopped around and found this company to be the best. They are based in Wil., Del.. We have a multicar discount and I'm (substantially) over twenty five but not dead yet.
For insurance I have been using Erie. They have great rates and better yet they come through when you need them (I had to use them once). I have a friend who owns an agency - John Shields @(610) 799-4777. Mention my name (Angelo). See what he can do.
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-21-2004, 09:31 PM Everyone still on for Saturday, its going to be chilly, but I think it will be worth it..at least for future meets. Hoping I can nip the car in for a quick wash before driving down.
Thanks ang for the info - will look into it!

Irish_in_a_RX8 01-22-2004, 07:37 PM No problem prober next time. A few peoplehave mentioned via email about not being able to make it, so I am unsure how many will actually be there. Nevertheless we will see how it goes, and take it from there :-)
willhave8 01-23-2004, 10:45 PM I can't make it 'cause.... I am picking my car up at 1 on Saturday. Maybe next time.
Craig (seasoned but very stoked)
Hey man - there is no better place to take that new 8 than an RX 8 meet.
Sure, you'll tell me that you have family to show it to, but come on . . . who's more important? ;)
Congratulations on your new ride!!!!!!!!!!!!
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-24-2004, 12:57 AM Agreed, garenteed, there will be another meet.....see you all tomm.
Senseny 01-24-2004, 02:34 AM Its snowing 2:30 am sat morning, Christ I missed a 7 meet the last time it snowed--I wanna meet everyone and check out your rides. I don't have winter rubber on the car so if it is at all rough I will beg off. The car sucks in the snow without proper tires, I don't want you to see my car dented. If the roads are clear and no one posts differently I will see you around 2.

Travis,
8:00 AM and the secondary roads in Del. Co. have snow. I'm going to take a ride in the Dodge and check things out. The main roads should be fine. I'll post in two hours. Let me know how things are in Bucks County and Phila. Thanks!!
John
Go4It 01-24-2004, 10:31 AM Roads are O.K.. The cars will get a nice coat of salt!
Senseny 01-24-2004, 11:35 AM Looking good here, I am planning on leaving around 1:15. Roads are not even covered. The only thing, with all the upcoming weather, I am not bothering to wash it. So I will show my salt semi-winning blue vehicle.
Senseny 01-25-2004, 01:44 AM Nice time today talking about rotaries and other vehicles with some very good people. I was happy to meet you all and hopefully as the weather improves I can put more faces to your names. Irish, thanks a ton for getting us together and getting the ball rolling for a club or regular meetings. It is appreciated.
Same sentiments Irish!
I had a great time chatting with everybody and checking out some other members cars. The beers always go down well too! I look forward to doing it again in better weather. - H
mcballz13 01-25-2004, 02:24 PM Keep me posted on the next meet IrishRx8... I work in Yardley, nice to hear someone so close by setting up all this.
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-25-2004, 05:25 PM Absolutely mcballz, PM me your email, I'll include you on the list.
Yeah it was great to meet everyone! The drinkin did not stop for me unfortunately, went on to 4 in the morning!
Photos look awesome, I'll crop them tommorrow, and post them asap.

Great time!!! It was nice to meet everyone. I'm sure it will be warmer for the next meet. Thanks for organizing W. I'm sorry you caught the Irish virus Sat.:D
Senseny 01-26-2004, 01:19 PM The Irish virus, now that is funny. I seem to catch that virus sometimes myself and I am of German descent. Can't wait to see the pics, however I know I'll be a little embarassed about having a very dirty car compared to everyone elses.
Man, my future mother-in-law looked at my car last night, and she wanted to know what had been painted on the side rear quarters. I told her that it was just road salt. She didn't believe me. Trust me Senseny, my car is still way dirtier than yours, although in the photoes I guess that your winning blue will show it more. Have a good one - H
So I just checked out Irish's photoes, and the only car that looks dirty is mine . . . right down to the grey wheels. So sad.
Go4It 01-26-2004, 01:59 PM I'm German and Irish. I have to be very very careful! H, who gets the car in the pre nup?

Don't know, it could be a deal breaker ;) .
Actually, it's not an issue. Girl doesn't drive a manual so it's mine, mine . . . MINE Hahahahahahahaha!
Sorry, that's my Daffy duck moment for the day.
Snowin' again. I drove home last night in the snow, and the car really handled well with the Blizzaks. Dig the tires.
Have a good one G4.

I know what you all mean, my car today is a great spotted silver white in color, perhaps I can get creative, wipe some of it off to give that ricer look with bolt streaks!
STOKEIN'!!!!!!!!!
Or however one spells that .
Go4It 01-26-2004, 08:34 PM I nominate Wayne for............
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-26-2004, 09:50 PM ..Go4It..you could nominate me for Governer, just like Arnold in Cali, ha ha.
Senseny 01-26-2004, 11:35 PM Governor of the club at least. I second that nomination. I already thanked you for the organization of the event. Now I thank you for the pics. Hey, who is that handsome devil with the winning blue car, it doesn't even look that dirty, except the brake dust graphite colored wheels. Unfortunately they aren't real graphite like Haze's winter wheel and tire combo. BTW, what was the make on them again. I may get a set for the FD if possible.
Hey Senseny -
Below is my order information from the Tire Rack when I bought these last September or October, whenever that was. Apparently, they are the Sport Edition Fox 2 Sport in Light Grey.
Hope that helps . . . and I told you your car wasn't that dirty!

Senseny 01-27-2004, 12:43 AM Thanks Haze, Jeez half my posts are to thank people lately. I guess that is better than arguing with people every other post.
Yeah, but you could get thrown off for being too polite ;) . I don't know how that goes over around here.
definately gonna have to make it to the tristate meet sometime, i had some bad luck with my key lug on my rear left tire else i'd might of swung by with my 8 to join the crowd.

Great we can car pool dragon. I'm in Ridley Park. I might not be able to afford fuel by spring, the beast has a real problem drinking rocket fuel. Maybe it's the heavy right foot.
Sens---Let me know when you dust off the 7. I've never been to turboville.
Irish_in_a_RX8 01-27-2004, 08:01 PM Evenin' all:
Okay heres all the photos dumped from my camera. I set up the site today - figured I'd make this page a bulletin of some sort when I get a hour or so during the week.

Travis/John thanks for the Governer idea, lol. I'll keep the emails coming when I find anything of interest, we all certainly have to get together for a Guinness!! Did you know that it works as Gas for the RX-8!! ha ha
Black Dragon/bay, absolutely - more the merrier ( and it would be cool if we could manage more than 10 Rx-8's for a drive!! )
Later Guys!
