Alexb 06-30-2009, 03:17 PM why buy that over an mx-5?
Easy_E1 06-30-2009, 03:18 PM Interesting.
SayNoToPistons 06-30-2009, 03:26 PM Give me that with a 16X and make sure it weighs no more than 2300 pounds.
Jedi54 06-30-2009, 03:28 PM the MX-5 wasn't ghey (errr...I mean "small") enough?
so when's Chrism getting his??? ;)
(runs away....quickly....)
I can't actually see the link, blocked by web sense. I'll check back tonight
Socr8tes 06-30-2009, 03:35 PM MX-2, doubt it. I'm guessing that's the basic design philosophy behind the next MX-5: small, ultra light weight, smaller engine. That should help offset CAFE for the next Renesis.
2tone 06-30-2009, 03:36 PM ^ ha ha ha oh good god that made me lol
yeah, um, i don't get it. just offer the mx-5 with a smaller engine, it looks the same. it doesn't make sense to have another "model"...and you can't get much smaller than the mx-5...so just have a miata with a 1.5 liter with istop and call it a day.
BUT, the headlights on that drawing are 100 million billion thousand times better than now...much sleeker front end.
Rhawb 06-30-2009, 03:57 PM That design actually wears the grin well - I know it's a render that some guy whipped up but it looks nice.
perks11 06-30-2009, 04:19 PM i do agree it does look nice, but i dont fit in a mx5, so i dont ever see this being an option

:mdrmed:
I could see if they made on slightly smaller than the current MX5, and the current MX5 slightly larger
Symbioticgenius 06-30-2009, 06:03 PM It would be foolish of mazda to cut into sales of their best selling car, and one of the if not the best selling car of all time. Thats probably the next MX-5.
However if they decided to do something like that, it would be interesting. There is a lack of market for a 15k RWD lightweight machine. Mazda could have a sports car for every price range.
Thoughts?
Mazmart 06-30-2009, 06:05 PM MX-2, doubt it. I'm guessing that's the basic design philosophy behind the next MX-5: small, ultra light weight, smaller engine. That should help offset CAFE for the next Renesis.
I think that you are absolutely correct. This is just talk regarding the next MX-5 IMHO
Paul.
refugeefrompistons 06-30-2009, 06:58 PM Autoblog stated the MX-2 would be FF. For goodness sake, the entire thing is mostly likely a misunderstanding.
I am willing to bet any amount of money that this is complete bullshit. There is really no way for Mazda to make a roadster any cheaper than the MX-5 unless it had the crash test safety of a Chinese car and the interior of a Nissan.
I think the source of the confusion is that Mazda has stated that the next gen MX-5 will be smaller than the current gen, so perhaps they misunderstood that to mean it would be a completely different model.
Symbioticgenius 06-30-2009, 08:13 PM looking at this list.

It seems as though numbers dont repeat on the mazda lineup. Seeing as they already have a car with a 2 in it... no.

CarAndDriver 06-30-2009, 11:52 PM I like it better than the current MX-5. The current one is dull even with the improved front end.
MattMPS 07-01-2009, 12:28 AM IMHO there are some misunderstanding in the two articles...
a) Since a couple of years ago Japanese magazines reported that in Mazda there was plans to build a small roadster based on the Madza 2 platform (front wheel drive)..some like a peugeot 206 CC...plans are revamped (according to magazines) weeks ago.....
see this (from a recent jap mag)
http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2009/06/mazda-working-on-small-roadster-model.html
this could be MX-2 IMHO
b) those pics (in this topic i mean) for me are referred to the next mx-5 ...smaller* , lighter w/ turbo engines and RWD.....2012-13 it's the correct time for launch.....
* sligthly ,smaller...
DarkLord7854 07-01-2009, 01:15 AM As long as it produces a decent amount of power and is RWD, I could totally see myself driving one (providing I fit), though I wouldn't replace my 8 for it, but mom wants a sports car so.. hehe

with a targa top. or a controvertible hard top. and less than 2600 lbs.
done. i am in.. that would be the lure to get me back to a two seater..
btw, it better handle as well as the rx8, or not so much in..
beers
MattMPS 07-03-2009, 12:31 AM there are also "quotes" for possibilities of seeing those sports into production:
100% lexus supercar
70% toyota FR sports
55% new rotary sports "rx-7"
Tokyo Motor Show 2011 is " the Date" for new rotary production car..
a concept this year?
shazy 07-03-2009, 01:02 AM Looks like a Lotus to me... Especially the front, reminds me of a bigger elise.

I found a picture of the rx-7 in a different color, but the picture is a little blurry compared to the picture you've posted.

Krazed_Rx8 07-03-2009, 04:39 AM ^ Uhhh that aint no rx7
Spin9k 07-03-2009, 05:52 AM with a targa top. or a controvertible hard top. and less than 2600 lbs.

Call it what you will, forget any soft top/make it just like this w/16x and ~2600lbs. Much sleeker looking than RX-8 (or MX-5 by miles), should have decent mid-20 mileage, much better performance, SOLD !

It certainly has the rotor hood buldge  and is blessedly devoid of the current Cheshire Cat Grin syndrome. My new desktop wish-paper!

That's the exact same picture with yellow shifted to blue.
Not enough front Fresh air intake!
H8SUVS 07-06-2009, 12:00 AM I like that Mazda vehicles look so happy. That's just what the world needs right now. I'm tired of angry grilles.
