Anyone seen the new Chevy TV spots? The front view of the new Vette looks an awful lot like a cross of the last model RX-7 and the new 8. Especially the headlights.

Just me or does anyone else notice the resemblance?

Sorry, but I see no resemblance to an 8. They do look sweet and they perform well. If I didn't need four seats I may have picked the vette over the 8. No I wouldn't, I look at bang for the buck, and while the vette is sweet at 50k, the 8 is even sweeter at 30k!

Edit: I do see the resemblance. At first I only looked at the vettes on that page, I didn't play the video. Now after playing the video and seeing the commercial on TV, yes the front resembles the 8. I still stand by my original bang for the buck. Not to mention the utility of 4 seats.

I think those headlights with the sculpted fenders look like a Ferrari 360.. but that's just what I think.

I dislike American cars very much. I would have said hate, but that would just piss off all the domestic car fans. Sorry.

Just struck me when it first appears in the video that the front has that RX look...more especially the 7. Sorry but didn't mean the entire car, just the front profile.

Funny that they have the new car in the video but still have the old models on the web page.

I think the new Vette looks AWESOME! I can't wait to take one for a spin. It might even convince me to trade in my '99 on a new one once the extended warranty runs out in June of '05.

Yeah it looks great. Again, looks great. Is a world class perfromer. But how about quality?
Give me the 8 any day. And I'll save the 20K. BTW at 50K, M3 is the way to go. Just my opinion.

I'm not a "domestic" car fan by any stretch, but to not appreciate what Chevy has done with the world class Vette (performance speaking) is being uneducated to put it mildly. As for the rest of the lot (current models), well, I could see alot in common with your analogy.

The vette's height ....definitely a real sports car.

But i was never too happy witht he looks..they were always UGLY...Although a 69 sting ray would be nice. just to burn the tires...but...

I have to give them credit for the NEW vette..that thing is sick, cant wait till that comes out..and the best thing the style is aggressive..NASTY and the stupid ass lights are gone....thank god. Plus the rear doesnt look like a FLAT wide ass anymore. nice nice. I like the normal style lights better.. :D

I think the vette looks sweet, especially the new front, and the tapered rear glass....good job GM.

The only vettes I am not a fan of were the C4 years. I like all of the rest. I certainly admire what Chevrolet has done with the C5 and the C6 looks incredible.

Has the corvette always had that ripple effect on the top of the car, or is that a copy as well?

I recall hearing this same comment on the vette that came out shortly after the 3rd Gen RX-7.

The double bubble cabin roof came with the C5. Its definitely a cue from the FD. My wife glanced at the new Chevy commercial today and said "hey a new commercial for the 8". She quickly realized it was the vette, but hey, someone thought the same thing as you.

I saw the same commercial today. When it first came on, I thought it was the new Viper, (the front has been compared to the 8 by my friends, and I think on this board as well) after watching it, I noticed it was a Chevy commercial and that it must be the new Vette. It does look better than past Vette's, I'm no fan, the only one's I really like were some of the 60's Stingrays, particularly the 65 and 67 models, IMO the 67 is the best looking Vette ever. The new Vette looks like one of the RX-7 (supposed concept looks or guesses rendered by artists) pic's I've seen floating around this forum. Sort of like this

It looks like the best bang-for-your-buck sports car has gotten even better :) Big thumbs up to Chevy for this one.

The new vette is a copy cat Viper. It copied the front end and sides way to much. Also the headlights are right off of a 360. Here is a pic to show you. It looks good but why they copied the viper is crazy.

Yeah yeah...the new vette is a bad ass performing car..it even looks good. I just hate american cars. And the fact that Ford owns Mazda, and they are getting some money from me pisses me off. But I swallowed my pride, so I could own the car of my dreams. Sorry if I make anybody mad. I don't mean to start a war like IkeWRX does...

i don't see any resemblance to an RX-8 in the C06...

The commerical definitely made me do a double take when I first saw it. I thought mazda had a new commercial for the 8. Wishful thinking I guess. From the front it does resemble an 8, IMHO.

I agree that the new corvette and the 8 look alot alike exspecially in the front end. Also take a look at some of the concept sports cars that chevy is putting out. I guess I know where the are getting there styling cues. Maybe they should thank Mazda.
