Welcome to the board. check out www.racingbeat.com. They make some great parts for our cars. Powerslot makes the slotted rotors for our cars, though our stock brake system is very good already. I would recommend stainless steel brakelines first, it will help your brake pedal more.

does all 08 parts fit on the 09 R3 without any problems??? like intakes and exhaust? most manufacturers list their items up to 08.

Are you interested in simply swapping parts out for the sake of doing so or are you trying to improve upon the performance of the RX-8? The two fundamentals have completely different pathways and different costs associated with them.

 

There are '08 parts that will not fit on '09 R3. Underdriven water pulley is one part I recall off the top of my head. There are more. Make sure you do your research and be sure of what you are buying before you do. Id stick to ordering '09 parts and you will be good. Everything in my sig is aftermarket for R3. mainly i was interested in basic bolt-ons for the 09, such as a CAI and CBE but no one lists anything for the 09. i just didn't know if there was any significant changes from 08-09 that would prohibit these add-ons or would make the car run bad (new to the rotary).

I understand that but here is my concern; if you want to focus on the driving aspects of the RX-8 you may end up wasting a lot of money on stuff that is of no consequence with this car.

Those of us whom have been around for a while with this car tend to suggest people get the RX-8 on a racetrack for a while so they can see just how awesome this car really is. Once they get a feel for the capabilities of the car (and themselves) they have a better idea of what they want to do for mods.

On the other hand, if you simply want to "dress" the car up and make a bunch of mods you run the risk of not only spending money but also of making the car perform worse.

Intakes generally provide no improvement to airflow (but some of them will make matters worse) and cat-backs are only a "style" decision and you can go with whatever sounds best to you.

 

cross drilled will crack and there is less surface area for braking. get slotted only.

 

Or dimpled/slotted. Stick with doing research and you should be okay.

 

the dimpled are really cool looking and are stronger than cross drilled

 

My advice, if you are just wanting to do 'simple bolt-ons' save your money. Pretty much everything costs more than its worth unless you are doing full set-ups like a full exhaust, midpipe, intake, getting a cobb accessport so it will actually yield maybe 2-3 more hp


The best way I recommend spending money is on the suspension. Save up the money from the bolt ons, get some shocks/springs or coilovers. I did that on my miata and that thing damn near dominated anything in the twisties.

 

yeah. dimpled will give you the look without compromising the structural integrity of the rotor.

 

Small FYI:

Found out the other day that previous years oil filler caps do not work on R3. Most likely not any 09 as they have changed how the cap screws on. Sigh.

Be careful with any exhausts systems. The 09 exhaust is different. I know the cat seems to be different since installing my header. Also I believe the tips are further apart. The shifter and transmission in general is different for out cars.

I would recommend checking out the changes on the 09 thread in the Tech Info section. It has a lot of the changes documented.

i just bought a new 2009 r3 as well, and i'm real interested in lowering the car, but again i can't seem to find any listings for lowering springs any newer then 08. does any one know if the springs are the same on the 09 r3 as the previous models, i know the shocks are different but what about the springs?

i don't know about you guys - but i don't really think my r3 needs any lowering. The ride height from stock seems fine and looks good w/ the wheels...

I think I'm going to track or auto-x the car before I start flipping around suspension pieces... this way I will know and feel the difference w/ each part that I add on...
