i am a php programmer and i would be willing to program some things for this site if you wanted to add more features such photo gallery and have the ability for each member to create thier own gallery and upload pic's.

there is more you could do for this site... i just thought i would mention the galleries being this is a car enthusiast site.

please contact me if you would like some work done :)

oh and i would do this work free of charge if ya are worrying about that.... dont.

hire that man! a gallery is a MUST! that way, we wouldn't have to see endless threads on owner's "new" cars.

yeppers. It's his vbulletin board and anything related to enhancement, bandwidth allocation or the servers themselves goes across his desk. He also owns more than one Mazda forum you know. ;)

Happy New Year everyone!

hey idle,

The gallery sounds like a great idea, but I don't think you should spend all you time writing your own. Check out: http://gallery.sourceforge.net

I use it on my site: http://sunkencity.org

It is written in php as well i believe. As for if it is possible for the owner of this site to host a gallery for all the users is another matter. That costs money. He would need to buy a lot more space to be able to do that. So although it is a great idea, i don't know that we will be getting one unless we all start donating money or make a new subscription type membership (other car sites do this as well. you get web space, email, etc).

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in though before you go off trying to write your own gallery...:) I almost did that too until I found that one and it is great.

serff,

yes i know there are a lot of pre-made script for galleries out there however there are a few problems with that route...

1.) you get that developers bugs to weed out
2.) it's not custom for the site
3.) i could edit it to make it custom for the site but i would have to look and learn the coders coding style and hope its not very messy code.
4.) if you customize the code and a new feature comes out you have to do it all over again with the new version or hack out the feature and incorporate it with your custom version.
5.) not all photo galleries are theme based some have the design hard coded... when upgrading you need to do all the design editing/integration again.

those are just a few problems i know come up when using other's code... i try not to use others code on any sites that i make... even the ones like photopost which is a really good script and integratable with vbulletin. but you need to wait for the developer to fix the bug and in the meantime your site may be vulnerable, not all developers jump on board to fix bugs immediately.

just my thoughts but i would still be willing to do this job for the site... it will also get something on the net that i have coded ;)
