Their website has a dyno on it claiming 11 hp gains. I am skeptical. Should I be skeptical? With a cat-back, intake and AccessPort would I be crazy to hope for 20 extra ponies?

Intake and only cat. back would be on the order of 5-10 total. Midpipe gets you 5-10 alone. Spend money on that instead. 04RX8man 06-19-2009, 02:01 PM crazy.... q-tip 06-19-2009, 02:05 PM I figured as much. I did not trust the claims of 11 extra ponies from an intake. Seems a bit far-fetched. I won't do the midpipe however because being an environmental geologist working on my masters in climate change it would be a bit hypocritical. However the more I study it the harder it is to find a definitive link between anthropogenic CO2 and climate change....CO2 was ten times the level it is at today in the Cretaceous and while it was a lot warmer then there were most certainly no Rotary engines smoggin' it up. shaunv74 06-19-2009, 02:08 PM Realistically there is some improvement from intakes but it's on the order of 2-3hp. Racingbeat and AEM/Mazdaspeed are the best. The K&N V2 is also well put together but louder than the others. Depending on what you're looking for I would pick one of these three. I like the RB one myself. nycgps 06-19-2009, 03:15 PM I have it for a long time, probably the first on the whole Rx8club.com. but I do not think there is 11 HP increase. 5 the most. and to make it "useful" you do need something like Racing Beat's Ram Air duct or Re-Amemiya Duct(expensive). VFAD will not work well with it. 04RX8man 06-19-2009, 03:25 PM I just say stock airbox mod is the best and cheapest....unless ur looking for something shiny under the hood....but then u could just wrap the stock box in aluminum foil nycgps 06-21-2009, 09:02 AM I just say stock airbox mod is the best and cheapest....unless ur looking for something shiny under the hood....but then u could just wrap the stock box in aluminum foil Naw put lots of stickers around it. it will make it :shocking: Huey52 06-21-2009, 09:25 AM Finally someone who gets it. Not that we should be blatantly anti-environment, but Mother Nature has far more impact than we mere mortals. Besides, methane release is a much more significant factor than CO2. I went the RB duct to stock airbox with a K&N flat filter myself. I figured as much. I did not trust the claims of 11 extra ponies from an intake. Seems a bit far-fetched. I want to see someone do this and datalog the MAF. Until then I would not recommend this as an improvement. |
