I pulled a little too hard on my emergency brake tonight...and I think I completely snapped the damn thing. The brakes are no longer engaging and there's no resistance at all anymore when I pull back on it. Performed a search and couldn't find any posts where something like this happened to another owner. I couldn't really be the first moron to bust the ebrake on an 8...could I? My car's a May 03 build and I'm out of warranty too (54k miles right now). :banghead:

First thing I would check is the brake cable connected to the lever.
Personally I never looked at how its secured to the lever, but you would need to remove the center console to get a better look at it and see if the cable is disconnected.

you either popped the cable out or snapped the cable.

sorry to hear bro. hopefully it won't cost too much to fix?
the small e-brake plastic panel broke on mine, so now I can see all the cool mechanism inside whenever the e-brake is engaged lol..
sun visor broke too.. e-brake light comes on whenever it wants to (while driving).. water leaked in on the taillight and did a ghetto drill job.. man.. problems.. oh and let's not forget about the bad cats and damn engine coils(?) sigh.

Put it up on a lift and it turns out I managed to snap the ebrake cable under the center of the car. That's 30 bucks or so for a new center cable...and then who the hell knows how many labor hours since you have to dismantle so much crap to gain access to that part of the car.
