the coils themselves won't throw a CEL. but they sure can cause it to come on. time for new coils, wires, and plugs.

chino: the answer to your question is YES.

if coils are bad, they can cause the system to be rich and trigger a CEL.
You should have the code pulled at an auto parts store or buy a device that can do it for you.
