Just curious what everyone thinks. Do you like the doors or would you have got a 2 door if they made one? I'm thinking they are pretty cool.

I showed my car to a friend and he thought it was a two door.

I absolutely love my suicide doors. Every single time I open them, I'm getting stared at by everyone on the street!

The "cool factor" still has not diminished.

From a usefulness standpoint, it's good, too. I had to fit a 20" monitor into the rear area, which would have been impossible with a B column in the way.

Useful AND beautiful...what more can I say?

I love the freestyle doors!!!!!!! I wouldn't have bought the car without them. I would never get my big ole acoustic guitar into this car without them, and to tell the truth, I would give up the renesis engine before I gave up that big gaping maw of an opening. It's the best.

Love it.......would never have gotten a 2 door since I have a 4 year old son to haul around all the time. Also, he can't play with the door handle or locks(since there are none) so it's safer! Although he loves playing around with the storage bin and cup holder lid.....have not figured how to stop that behavior yet!

Nice so far, only problem I had is with small parking spaces where I can't open the door fully, in that case, getting out from the back was a little comical.

Like Fleche, the only problem I've had is getting people out of the back in tight spots. But most people are completely amazed when I open them, because they always think it's a two door car until then. They make access to the back seats SO much easier..

When the family is out and about in the car, we have no trouble getting my 15 year old son in and out of the back seat. The suicide doors are great. As previous posts, there are some tight parks out there when it takes some contortions to open both doors and get out and then get them closed again. But we are very pleased.

I love my "freestyle doors". I just wish we had front doors that went straight up like on the Diablo. Then it would be easier to let a passenger in while you are next to your seat. I find that I have to "do a little dance" when I open the doors in a tight space.

I like the freestyle doors. I think they add character to the "8". But I also don't think they make the rear seats more accessible. If the design was a two door with the same length as the front and rear door combined, wouldn't the rear seat be even more accessible with no door near it for entry?

I like them. But they didn't really impact my decision to get one.

Maybe there should be a third option: Doesn't matter!

Hate them! They ruin the lines of the side view of the car, not too mention the somewhat related elongated roofline and wheelbase that was designed for rear passenger room. Finally, the lack of a B Pillar required a lot of heavy additional bracing to the chassis that added too much weight to a car that needs to be as light as possible.

Don't know if this has already come up but how do those doors hold up under a direct-hit side impact? Isn't that inherently going to be a pretty weak point prone to serious buckling and driver injury?

But back on topic, I love 'em. Just curious.

Actually, they have proven to be very sturdy with the bracing Mazda did under impact.

wish they opened even wider to make entry/exit more comfortable (pls check out Nissan Titan).

I like them a lot, but they didn't really influence my decision in buying the car in any way.

They certainly are useful in getting people in the back seat, as well as other cargo. This is my first "4 door" car, so it's weird and kind of a luxury to have such easy access to the back.

So, do you believe a 2 door, more balanced proportioned RX8 would not look better?

it's hard to say, since i have not seen one with 2 doors, but to me the lines of the side view of the car are fine. more importantly, those 2 extra doors are functional. just today i had to throw some stuff in the back seat and it would have been more difficult with only 2 doors.

Don't the front passengers still have to get out to let the rear ones escape from the back seat?

i have not had rear passengers and front passengers at the same time yet but i think that the front door would have to be opened before the back door could be opened but the front passengers would not have to get out.

That's what I remember, I guess, its still a bit of a pain.

I wish it were easier for the back passenger to get out. When my kids are in back, the passenger-side kid can't get out himself. I have to open the passenger side front door for him, then he can open the passenger back door himself. Also, the spine down the middle makes it harder for the kid to get out from my side. I love the spine though. Kind of seperates the kids.

No.

You need to *open* the front door though before you can open the rear one.
