I was just told by a co-worker that window tint on the driver side and passenger window are illegal in cali, is that true? Also if anyone has tint on those windows have they been pulled over and what was the consequence?

Yes, it's illegal. I have tint on mine been pulled over twice (god knows why) never issued any tickets. Both times police never mentioned or made comments about my tinted passenger windows. My passenger windows only have 55% tint.

If I recall correctly tinting the windows ahead of the drivers head is illegal, (expect for the top of the windshield). People used to get around this by tinting the drivers and passenger side windows in a diagonal line from the lower front to the upper rear (tint below the line, clear above). Also tinting the rear window and back seat windows is fine but if you tint the rear you must have a right side mirror.

What I've done in the past is use medium titanium tint and you should be ok. If you get like limo darkness you can expect to get pulled over for sure. You can also go light tint on the front, and medium tint in the back. I did that and didn't get any tickets for my integra. Was thinking of doing tinting when summer rolls around.

I've had my side driver side and passenger windows tinted (5% limo) since July. And I havn't been pulled over once. Knock on wood. I believe it is still illeagal though. I've drove right by cops all the time. The only thing you have to worry about is highway patrol, they would be the ones to give you a ticket for it.
The consequence for having tinted windows and getting pulled over for it is a fix-it ticket at a $10 processing fee. At least that was the case with the CA highway patrol.
