View Full Version : For those with the spare tire, have you seen it?
WHealy 12-30-2003, 05:56 PM I recently got mine out and took a pic. Wasn't exactly what I expected. But it's still a motivational spare. You know one that motivates to get a real tire once it's on because it looks so bad. Not complaning here, just thought I would share. Obviously, the cover is still on it in this pic.
RX-Nut 12-30-2003, 06:04 PM I got one, but never looked at.... my oh my..
moRotorMotor 12-30-2003, 06:12 PM woah, nice spare. Is that alluminum? Is it 18 inches as well?
Where can I get 4 of these? heh. :)
Zoom2X 12-30-2003, 09:35 PM Has anyone figured out what that strap with the hooks is for? I figure it's to hold the real wheel when you have the spare on but have absolutely no idea what to do with it.

Ummm. Yea. It is alluminium, It is 18", and it's even cuter in person than mere photos can show. I dread the day that I have to use it, but I feel moderately better with a frozen pizza that passes as a spare, than I do a can of fix-a-flat, and spotty,(at best), cell phone service.
Ah, the joys of living in Wyoming. :D
I'm not complaining, there's no place on earth that's better! it's just that there are certain concessions that have to be made...

XDEEDUBBX 12-31-2003, 12:29 AM didn't the rx7's come with the same spare?

Ummm. Yea. It is alluminium, It is 18"Uh, no, it's actually a 17". Full details and a photo were posted here (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=91495&highlight=spare+tire#post91495) several months ago.
The strap is designed to support the weight of the donut while you're removing it from, or replacing it onto, the bracket - you hook one end over one of the spokes and the other over the lip of the trunk.
This and other mysteries are explained in the Owners Manual. You'll probably find it in the glovebox. ;)
i3man 12-31-2003, 05:53 AM Is the color of the spare the same color of the car? I have a spare and my 8 is Ti-Grey but I have not looked at the color of my spare...hopefully it's grey and not yellow :p

Thanks for pointing out the previous information. I figured there was probably another post somewhere, but I must admitt I didn't bother to check. I just had the pic and figured I'd put it up.

i'm sure yours is yellow as well. i noticed it the first time i brought it home cuz you can see it through the opening in the rear seats. of all the freakin' colors to make it though. i've already removed mine since i decided i would rather call AAA than put that thing on my car.
shebam 12-31-2003, 09:32 AM Can anyone post a picture of what it looks like installed in the trunk? In deciding whether to order would like to figure how much trunk it leaves me. Also, assume this is the Mazda option and not aftermarket? (I order car Jan. 10 and was not aware of option at the time.)
zerobanger 12-31-2003, 09:56 AM It looks almost exactly the same as the one in my 1994 rx-7, LOL.

I suspect the obnoxious yellow color is federally mandated for temporary spares these days.

Thanks for the information. I did search the Owners Manual looking for how to use the strap and did not find the answer to that mystery contained within, do you happen to have the page number?

What a shock to the sensors! As for space, I have a spare and still put my golf bag (a very important buying discriminant) and a few other items in there ...so there is some space.

My apologies, it's not in the Owners Manual, but was in the instructions that came with the spare tire kit. The dealer or installer should have left them in the glovebox with the manual.
Omicron 02-06-2004, 06:23 PM Betcha WMHealy has painted his blue by now. :D
(Just kidding Bill!) hehehhehehheeeeee
