So the dealership (browning cerritos) is charging me $400 dollars to fix my power steering issue that everyone seems to be having. There's a bulletin out for this problem, but since I'm out of warranty, they are charging me for the parts and labor. Any one deal with this problem and was able to get it resolved without paying for the $400 out of warranty?

basically $100 for parts and $300 for labor. What crooks!!

any help feedback suggestions or other dealerships i should check out would be much appreciated.

Thanks RX8 community.

why not just take it elsewhere?
Order the part yourself and have a shop fix it.

too busy to clean out the sensor myself. Seems like a real pain, and to be frank, too lazy on the weekends. I guess I'll order the part myself and get it done at a local shop unless someones willing to help me clean out my sensor and i'll buy you a cold 12 pack :)

Any reco's for shops around socal that would do this?

btw. what's your quick solution thats practically free dozer? u willing to work for crack? haha jk (referring to ur icon)

The part they are replacing is a sub-harness, you can either clean it like Dozer said or order it and swap it in under an hour yourself.

How many miles are you out of warranty? If you aren't that far out of warranty call MNAO and plead your case

TSB does not equal a recall. Sucks you have to pay, but all it is a job aid for techs. It doesnt entitle consumers to free car repairs.

seriously, this problem is mad easy to do. take the airbox out and you will be able to unclip those sucker off, unplug the battery, take a chinese food take out plastic quart and soak that shit into electric cleaner solution for maybe 5 minutes. bam ! just like new :)

no worries, instead of paying hourly labor, you can pay in other ways ie, food and beer, um car parts for me :) (coils, plugs) etc etc, its A LOT cheaper than takin it in to the stealership

hey guys... what exactly do you recommend I clean it with?

FYI, I tried the contact cleaner when I had this problem. It did work, for a while, then the problem came back. I eventually just cut that gray sunofabitch connector out and soldered the wires directly. A little solder, a bit of shrink-wrap, Voila - permanent fix. It's just as cheap and *almost* as easy as the contact cleaner. And Wayyyyy more satisfying. Snip. Snip. Snip. Ahhhh...... :)

so you just cut out the connector completely and soldered the wires together? I am going to try cleaning my connector again but any help with the soldering would be appreciated.

i wouldn't solder it together. just get some of those male/female butt connectors and use that instead of solder. worked for me.

I have the similar PS failure problem, and on top of that my car stalls when I come to a stop--normally when I first start the car. Is this a related issue?

the connectors are directly under your airbox tray, youll see it right away, its the bigger one...unplug and clean it out. super simple

dude,

you need to stop posting, read the owners manual first. when you are done with that read the stickys..

when you have a real relevant question or issue get back to us.

Go get one yourself at www.mazdausa.com under the owners section. It's free after registering and the site is actually kind of useful.
Yes, it's not the shop manual, but it would still be nice to have a normal operating manual wouldn't it?
