I'm at a loss guys. A bunch of my old college friends keep track of our "cylinder quotient" meaning how may cylinders do you own (just a friendly competition). How should I count my RX-8 since it doesn't actually have any cylinders. I know it's a two rotor, but they fire multiple times, should I just count it as a 6 or a 4 cylinder?
My list is at 28 + what ever the RX-8 should be:
1967 Plymouth V8
Mazda MPV V6
Lawn Tractor I4
Street Motorcycle V2
Dirt Bike 1 (2-stroke)
Old Dirt Bike 1
Kids Dirt Bike 1
Push Mower 1
Weed Whacker 1 (2-stroke)
Rotor Tiller 1 (2-stroke)
Snow Blower 1 (2-stroke)
Chain Saw 1 (2-stroke)
RX-8 ??

I say just start a "rotor quotient" competition. I bet you'd come out ahead of your friends.

hahaha... ummm... "it depends" :D
just count it as 6, saying that each rotor has 3 combustion events each per complete revolution.

The insurance guy asked me how many cylinders my car had (so he can figure out the price) when I purchased the car and I told him, "None" and he thought I was kidding. He later just put in 6 cylinders because of the HP.

you should insit on "4"... there're only four spark plugs (and thus four plug wires)!!! (you see this in unknowlegdable used car adds all the time)

The funny thing was I did blurt out "4 cylinders" because my friend's S2000 had 4... why not me?:D. He thought about it for a few minutes and insisted on going with 6 cylinders because the HP figures ('correction' 238hp on the bill of sale) was a bit high.
I wonder if putting in 6 cylinders, rather than 4 have raised the price of my insurance?

Ya should insist on 4 and point out that it's only 1.3L ;) (Assuming of course it makes a differerence in your rate)

My boyfriend wants to know if your wife counts as a cylinder -- or two, or three, depending... ;)
JUST kiddin! Really.... it's late and I just couldn't resist. (Nice collection of cylinders, btw.)

Ok, I'm catching on now, if I want to make the car seem slower say it's equal to a 4 cylinder (i.e.: insurance or "sorry kid I won't race you, it's only like a 4 cylinder"). If I'm going for bragging rights, say it's equal to 6.
If that doesn't work, I'll just do what mamccubbin says and start a "rotor quotient". I'd do fine with that with the old friends, but with just one current rotary and one RX2 4-door from my past, I wouldn't do so well on this board.
