OK - so with just over 1000 miles on my new RX-8, my girlfriend and I embark on a 9 day holiday family trip.

Over 2200 miles of (mostly) highway driving and not one RX-8 sighthing between GA, AL, MS, LA, and TX - That's nice!

The car was so comfortable - i was expecting that a 1100 mile trip would put some wear on me - but the suspension is tight enough fo handling and soft enough for most everyday bumps. even my girlfriend was surprised.
The BOSE stereo sounds so good and clear - my favorite volume level is 17. The Ipod with itrip worked great over the radio waves. I take back anything I said before about the sunroof being noisier than anything I owned before - i was wrong! Is not bad at all. And the leather never made my butt sweat - ok - TMI.

Jealous 350Z's and G35's would pull next to me and check us out. the car has a silver tint on the windows where you can barely see us inside - so we always pretented to be cool. People would honk as they passed or were passed.

We stopped at two small town gas stations were people just buzz'd around the car talking to me about how sharp it looked and "they waz goin to git th'm one"...

the halfway point was New Orleans (well - we made it that way on the way down AND up) - so we ate and partied on Bourbon street (plenty of beads being shown)- food was great - Hotel on French Quaters was great (Cornstalk) - and my car spent two nights on the street without a scratch - I know - I am crazy - but the only other choice was valet parking and there's no way that I let them take my car and possibly flood it...

the trunk amazingly held a humongous amount of presents there and back. The suitcases were in the back seats!

Mileage report:
I pretty much got 20 MPG no matter what I did. I got that at 80MPH average and I got 21 at 75MPH average. I got 18.5 in mixed.

Minor complaint - the cruise control needs to accelarate and decel a little smoother when one touches those two buttons. It works wonderful on its own.

gota question - over 3600m on the odometer and I've only used less than half a quart of oil. Comments?
I owned and RX7 13B and almost never added oil between changes - so could it be my driving style, engine tolerances, or what?

At 3,600 miles I had used just around one quart of oil, and then I did my first oil change which was probably unecessary, but I had all city driving in those miles. My feeling is that the highway miles used a little less oil than running around, and that your car has perfectly normal oil consumption, and it sounds like it's running great.

Sounds like a brilliant trip too! I was just down in NO last month for a wedding, and man what a blast. Have a great one - H

I have this (not so unique) theory that the oil consumption goes high when you rev it up to that 7000rpm and you feel that extra kick in the power curve.

Yeah, the cruise control certainly does change your speed quickly. I happen to love it on the increase. :) What I really do love about it is that every touch either up or down changes the speed by exactly 1mph. That's way cool!

Nice "beads" there, huh? You're bad! :D

Quino - you car sounds like a carbon copy of mine. Same deal for me with mileage and oil consumption (and the love of the car, of course).
