What's the deal with turbo timers. I'm looking to get a turbo timer but I see timers on ebay that are a fraction of the price of the greddy timer or other major name brands. I really was looking at a timer on ebay thats 40 bones and looks very similar to the greddy. It's called the SUPER BABY TIMER. Ebay can be deceving but this one looks pretty OK. I'm thinking its a knock off greddy sort of a reverse engineering thing?

 

Save your money and just let the car idle for a couple of minutes after a drive. I let mine idle for about a minute after a moderate drive with little to no boost used. After I go for a drive where I used boost a lot I always stay off of the boost when I am getting close to my destination then let it idle for about 2 minutes.

 

police is right - I actually have a timer but find it pretty redundant really .....

 

would love to but my line of work sometimes does not allow for such idleing. EMS

For the most part, a turbo timer is only going to be necessary when you've come off of a high load run where the turbo is still rather hot. If you turn the car off with the hot oil still in the turbo it can cause problems.

My biggest gripe with a turbo timer is that it requires you to defeat the car's ignition system which could be exploited if a thief knows what they are doing. You'd either have to find a way to defeat the immobilizer or leave a key in some kind of a device inside the car.

There is at least one turbo timer I am aware of which requires an accesscode I believe to either start the car or something along those lines. I would look into a device that has some kind of security built in.

For just daily driving purposes you shouldn't have to worry about the car idling for a minute before shutting it off. If you were hammering it before arriving at your destination then I would.
