View Full Version : E92 m3
renesisgenesis 05-26-2009, 05:51 PM My friend has an 08' E92 M3. He seems extremely reluctant to take the engine past 5 or 6 thousand revs. (it redlines at 8400). How can i convince him to rev it up? I have already tried several methods of reasoning, including explaining that he has paid a premium for a vehicle which possesses engineering designed to rev high and be driven hard, this negating his extra money spent. Even the mention of dropping it in 2nd at 50 mph causes a look of disgust and shock on his face. I don't think he understands what "M" cars are. It's as if he is using the same driving behavior on a borderline supercar that one would with a family sedan.
ok let's not make this an argument on how the m3 isn't even close to a supercar. It goes 0-100 mph in less than 10 seconds. That's faster than a ferrari 360.
SayNoToPistons 05-26-2009, 06:40 PM Seriously? -_-
kersh4w 05-26-2009, 11:04 PM if i bought any object, a gun, clock, a car, etc.. i believe i have the right to use it how i see fit.
if i decide to buy a 1968 mustang gt500 and never take it out of the garage. that is my own damn decision.
let him be.
YaXMaNGTO 05-26-2009, 11:21 PM Kick his ass. Seriously. Kick his silly ass, call him a little girl, take his keys, and drive off...
laugh hysterically as you rev it to 8400RPM.
I hadn't thought about this story for years... my buddy bought a used FC RX7 back in the day.
He didn't know how to drive stick very well yet, so we took for a drive. I rev'd the thing to redline, heard the beep, and shifted. He freaked and thought I destroyed his car. I explained for 20 minutes it didn't do shit, and that's the way you drive a rotary. I finally talked him down, and went home. But the next day, he told me he paid to get his oil changed...... for the second time in a week.
You can't fix stupid. Some people are like that, but you should still KICK HIS ASS. HOW CAN BUY AN E92 M3 AND NOT DRIVE THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF IT!!?!?!?!? BLASPHEMY!!!!
RotaryP7 05-26-2009, 11:40 PM Well, I guess he's missing out.
Im_DANomite 05-26-2009, 11:41 PM oh, he's one of those BMW owners...
fucktard
tell him when they delivered his car, a technician already redlined it a couple times for him...i guarantee it ;)
8 Maniac 05-27-2009, 12:09 AM Tell him the fact that he bought the car but refuses to drive it how it should is proof that he doesn't know enough about that car to deserve it.
shazy 05-27-2009, 12:12 AM Tell him to FUCK off and put sugar in his gas tank.

indeed its his car he can do what he wants with it.
OP get one yourself if you wanna see it used right, and if you can't afford one, this just sparks of jealousy. Although not to be a complete hypocrite the other day i saw a orange and black brand new GT3 being driven around at 25 in a 45 by your typical 'fat 60+ year old enlarged prostate with a depressed wife driving a porsche' schmuck. I comfort myself by the fact that when said guy is done with his car and sells it in a year or two for 65% of its original value, its been properly babied and broken in and ready to be ridden like the beast that it is.

Well, yes I am a little jealous. And ya I guess the next owner will be getting a good deal too.
But it bugs me when he says that revving it high will cause "unnecessary wear". Well, I would claim that spending 70k on a sports car is "unnecessary" also, so why the hell not drive it like it was designed to be driven?
Feras 05-27-2009, 11:37 AM i say since he clearly doesn't know the value of whats he spends his money on get him to buy you sometihng swell.
White_Shadows 05-27-2009, 01:35 PM *shrugs* To each there own. I beat the piss out of cars/motorcycles, but I fix them myself. If he can't afford to after spending all that money, then baby away.
renesisgenesis 05-27-2009, 02:34 PM I think the bottom line is that he doesn't really understand what it is that he owns. He grew up in Singapore, where everything is ridiculously strict and uptight; I think this may be part of it.
YaXMaNGTO 05-27-2009, 02:39 PM An ex-coworker of mine has an IS-F. He's the same damn way. You can't get through to him.
Posers. That's what they are. He bought it because he "likes the way it looks", and he likes to have people walk up to him and tell him "cool car, man". When he ordered, he had to get some stupid interior option or it was a no-go on the deal.
He can't drive to save his ass. He drives 5-10 under the speed limit like a grandma, and won't take a corner fast because it "wears down his tires too much... might mess up the alignment".
It's a damn car, pansy ass. It's disposable.
Really annoys me.
YaXMaNGTO 05-27-2009, 02:48 PM show him something along these lines... I'm not saying tell him to become a drift champion, but a video like this might help him understand what his car can do, and how much abuse it can take without breaking.

8 Maniac 05-27-2009, 03:02 PM I hate seeing someone with a performance oriented car when they obviously have no interest in even trying to drive it fast. I especially hate it when they get a car with an upgrade that offers nothing else aside from performance when they clearly would not have used the lower model for it's purpose. There's an older lady I see all the time who drives an IS350 and it's obvious she wouldn't have needed the performance from the 250.
Try approaching it the other way. Don't constantly talk about how much his car can do, agree that it can't do all that. Tell him how "that piece of crap" couldn't keep up with other cars without breaking. Continue on like that, and he might try to defend his car...

when he passes, he typically puts it in 5th or 6th and floors it at like 4000 rpm. I hope he tries to pass a fast car one of these days and has to use 3rd or even 2nd. But he won't. He says his dream car is an S class AMG, which makes a lot more sense for him.
