for no reason whatsoever i decided to do some donuts this past weekend...i've never done them before because this is my first RWD car and plus i thought they were kinda stupid watching other ppl do them...anyways, it was real easy easy to do...i figure the next time i'm valeting the car and i'm on the wrong side of the street, a quick 180 would solve that problem =P

has anyone else done em? btw, it was on dry pavement and around 48 degrees out...

I'm not exactly sure what that means, but in my RX-8 all U-turns are 180s. It's a beautiful thing. :D

I spun the RX-8 around in a parking lot on a test drive! The salesman said spin it around thinking that DSC would prevent me from doing so. It does. I just turned it off and around we went. Damn fun.

^ that's what i was talking about...i felt like a little high school boy when i was doing them but it was fun...i doubt i'll ever do it again just cuz it's probably one of the worst things you can do in your $35,000 car but it was fun going in endless circles

I'm not a performance car tester, but isn't this how they do skidpad tests? Keep doing donuts at faster and faster speeds until the rear slips out (measuring Gs while they're doing this).

I think most mags calculate G's based on the top speed of the car going round and round in a set diameter circle.

Hardly!
Rear-ending a dump truck would sit much higher on that list!
But then again, so would 9k RPM clutch drops.
Once the tires are spinning under throttle, there is no damage to the car at all - excepting the tires.

i was dropping the clutch at 8 grand w/ DSC off and the car would spin like a top...since it was my first inexperienced donut it redlined for a good 4 seconds before i heard the warning buzzer amidst the screeching tires and the 'oh shit' warning sign in my head kicked in...at which point i shifted to 2nd and continued to do 3 more 360s...i guess all the smoke and fumes from the burning rubber scared me a little too much to not want to try it again...oh and the 4 second redline isn't too great for it either =P

Once again - no harm done.
That is what a rev limiter is for.
The engine will easily handle 13k RPM, so Mazda limited it to 9.2k or so. You could sit there all day and no harm done.
