Just bought my 05. Inspection runs out next month. 35% window tint was added to this car back in 06 and it has passed the NC state inspection at least twice since then. I was having the oil changed today and asked for a new inspection. They blew me off saying the windows were too dark to pass. I have the receipt from the original owner showing that 35% tint is what was used and I have receipts from the inspections that were passed since the tint was applied. When I bought the car, I asked the previous owner if there were ever any issues getting inspections with the tint and she said she never had an issue come up about it. NC Law supposedly allows for 35% tint.

Anyone know of a place that might let me pass in eastern nc? Obviously, if you do, don't post it here. Fee free to send me a pm though. I'm sick about this. This tint really sets off the WWP paint and I dont' want to lose it.

They didn't even notice the 35% on my car here in Raleigh at the Jiffy Lube on Capital Blvd. I just drove up with my front windows rolled down and made some quick small talk. They wanted to talk about the car and b.s. about it for a minute. I was out in like 20 min.

NC also allows like 2.5% difference, so you could actually have down to 32.5% and be okay. Mine read 32 at the window tinting place and he said I will probably be fine. No problems yet.

My suggestion is to not even mention it and just roll the windows down before you even show up. And choose a really bright day that way it is less noticeable...

Good luck
