If you frequent "The Tech Garage" then you know that Mazda Australia sent the Rotary key to the Aussies as pre-order gift.

I was wondering if anyone in the US has gotten it in this fashion and if anyone from inside the industry could give us a clue to as if MNAO has any plans to do so for the US buyers.

I want to buy a key but if im getting a free one then I don't wanna dish out 187 bucks

I don't think we will get a free one. Check the threads for some additional discussion, a the few US buyers bought the rotary key are having difficulties trying to code it.

I'm living proof the key cannot be programmed. Maybe RX-NUT can prove me wrong. He's gonna try to get his J-Spec key programmed also. Check out this thread: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15244

Well then I'll wait on RX-Nut, or you to get the balls to try taka's method.

Well since I've already sunk over $120 into this little "experiment", I'll wait and see how RX-Nut makes out. If it works for him, I'll give it a whirl myself...

I purchased a special rotary key from JT-Imports, Japan, for about $90. I took the key to the dealer, and made them try to cut a key on a $20 blank. They couldn't even cut the factory standard key right after three tries.

I bought a blank key, and took it to the hardware store around the corner from my house. They cut it perfectly the first time. I then got them to cut my "special" key. I took both keys home and procrammed them to the car myself, no problem.

The car will retain the ID signature of up to 8 individual keys. The procedure is listed in the shop manual. Very simple!!

I'm bringing it up with me to the Dragon, for those who need to see to believe!! :D
