Just a thought on how I can get the money from the Amex card and not have to worry about the expiration date on it. Getting gift certificate at the mall and buy something with and then return the item and I believe you would get cash back from the store you purchase the item from. I think buying clothes is much easier to return. I am going to try this out and see if it will work. I don't know if all the malls do this or not. By the way I live is Orange County, thought I would give my input the AMEX restriction of uses since many member are still waiting for theirs. Hope this idea work. Also you gents/ladies might want to get is in value of $20 - $100 gift certificate if you are going to do this. Thanks for reading, hope I did not blabb too much.

That may work. But, some stores may only issue store credit if something is purchased on a gift card/credit card. You never know, though...

Yeah...I figured that could happen, but I am going to try anyway just to see. If the store that I bought the item from gives me cash on the difference than I am going to buy alot there then wait a couple of days and return it :)

Anyone still waiting for their Card?

I bought back on October 6th and pre-ordered in July.

If there's a will, there's a way:-)

I just went into my brother's Jewelry store, called up AMEX to see what the remaining balance was, and charged the remainder of the value onto my fiancee's engagement present. The balance of the present was paid on another card.

An easier, and less morally suspect, way to cash out the card would be to find someone who uses AMEX alot and sell them the. Just find a friend or realative who travels a lot for business. Chances are they could use the card.

I'm still waiting - send my form to beat the 10/1 deadline. Mazda CS giving the run-around. They blame Amex.

Since it IS a cash card, couldn't you use it to "buy" AMEX traveler's checks from a bank or other AMEX participant? They spend just like cash and don't have an expiration date that I'm aware of...

I don't know about other states but here in california, gift certificates doesn't expire. Maybe it's also in yours, is amex card considered a gift certificate?

It's considered a pre-paid debit card. I have absolutely no idea what the regulatory environment is for those things anywhere. I had never seen one before. I've only heard about them. All I know is that the card comes contractually limited by an expiration date. It could be that that expiration date is invalid in certain jurisdictions, but I wouldn't hang your hat on it. You would need to sue to enforce that reading, and who needs that hassle. Just spend the money. It probably works at the grocery store, and with the price of food these days, it will go fast enough.

Man shoot. I've used it at Walmart, K Mart, food stores,,, If you can't use-up $500 in 6 months, what is your excuse?

It works at the gas station, but you shouldn't pay at the pump, you should go in & pay inside. That stinks, so I haven't used mine like that.

It'll be used-up with plenty of time to spare using it in other ways.

I got mine less than a week ago & I'm already in the $300's. Shuh!
