View Full Version : Has this every happened to you?
i3man 12-25-2003, 01:52 AM Today I was driving in 2-way traffic and came to a stop. There was BMW 3-series going in the opposite direction right on my front left quarter...so I was on his front left quarter as well and we were both stopped.
I know he was staring at my 8 the whole time we were stopped.
I didn't give his car the time of day. This is one of the reasons why I didn't want a BMW. From the front I couldn't tell whether it was a 318i, 323i, 325i, 328i, 330i...who knows? It could have been a $20K car or a $40K car but nobody knows since they all look the same and there are so many of them on the road.
DViOuS 12-25-2003, 02:39 AM yep, this has even happened on the highway, cruzin at posted speed limits, these 2 cars were racing (prelude and 300zx), blew rite by my 8, but after they were done, they both slowed down below speed limit so i can catch up inorder for them to pull by the side of my 8 to have a good look. this was at 1am in the morning, so very little cars on the road. they were doing the mini hops to try to get me to race my 8... buwahahaha... never has any racers slowed down when racing in order to try to race my cars before... they usually go sucidice speeds the entire way of the freeway...
8_wannabe 12-25-2003, 04:07 AM Happens all the time. People driving cars that cost $10-20K more than mine, checkin' out my ride. They try to do it without being obvious about it.
Sea Ray 12-25-2003, 08:08 AM That's whats nice about tinted windows, I can sit and watch them the whole time they are checking it out. Great feeeling, like no other car I have ever owned.
It's the best feeling I've had in a car, knowing that other people are looking at me!
"What is that?" "Is that the new RX-8?" "I wonder how fast it goes."
You know what they're thinking, and you love that they're thinking it.
Last weekend I had to drive across town to a specialty shop and while on the Interstate, some kids who were racing through traffic in a 300ZX slowed down to check me out. They looked the 8 up and down and then grinned and gave me a thumbs up. It would have been even better if they were women, but it still made my day.
RX-Nut 12-25-2003, 01:30 PM Yep.. same here.. the RX-8 just begs for looks.. it's a unique and eye catching design. I swear I'm gonna cause accidents when I drive. heheh
I can see people cranking their necks just to get another look. It's amazing.
I'll just enjoy it until it's looks fade away and become ubiquitous on the road.
Yo i3.. put Hawaii in your location dude.. represent! hehe
Kaliken 12-25-2003, 01:52 PM i know the feeling.. its so much fun when you are stuck in traffic and the girl in the car next to you is looking the car up and down.. ok ok .. so it was a guy.. one can always dream right?
Senseny 12-26-2003, 12:45 AM The looks from everyone on the road driving just about anything is one of the reasons that driving an 8 and a racing striped, big assed exhaust having, Front mount intercooler showing FD is so cool. However when stopped (gas stations, parking lots, etc) talking to strangers about the cars can get tiresome. At first it was flattering, but sometimes when you gotta get somewhere it is frustrating. Of course, I always have time for other rotorheads.
winebrad 12-28-2003, 03:16 AM I have only had my 8 for 5 days and I have been stopped every day as I go the grocery store for anything that my wife wants!! I even had some JoeBob in a new black Impala revving his engine at a light today. I just had to laugh!
DViOuS 12-28-2003, 06:35 AM I had the US boarder customs people comin back from Vancouver lookin over my car for a while, they said they didnt know there was rx8 out there, he said he though the rx7 was the last of the rotaries... basically i had 4 customs officers checkin out my car at 12.30am in the morning... 1 was actually checkin out my trunk, the rest were just standing and pointing and commening what nice lines the car had!
PS: it started snowing when going up to Vancouver today and had to park the car at a gas station n take a taxi to vancouver... the tires are a real bitch even in very light snow... but thats been discussed to death by now in other threads... so my 8 still remains untinted :(
syntrix 12-28-2003, 09:00 AM I had a guy in a new CLK get beside me for about 30 seconds.
He then started driving like 100mph on 40mph roads, and was swerving all over the place.
I just played it safe, and picked up a friend about 15 mins away.
As we were getting on the freeway, he was right in front of me! He was looking hard, and then the two lanes went to one, and he cut off 2 cars blatently in the process.
Maybe it wasn't me. But I got on the freeway and passed him, as he was then talking on the cell phone and doing about 10 below the speed limit.
I was encircled by "admirers" on I-35 on Saturday... 3 different cars (not all at the same time) slowing down getting behind me, speeding up, checking out the left and right, staring in the rear view....
One was a POS pickup prolly 15+ years old. One was a mid 90's Mercedes that had some serious miles on it, and the last one was a newer saab.
Samyv 12-29-2003, 09:09 AM My gets more looks then the soft top Nissan 240 I used to drive. I had a guy driving a soft top M3 stop and tell me how great the car look. Another time I went to a place for lunch, It was amazing to see the different types of people, old and young walk over to check out the car. It is truely a great feeling.
Elara 12-29-2003, 10:28 AM I apparently insulted an STI yesterday by just being next to him at a stoplight. I would have rolled down my window at the next light when he was closer to my car and told him what a great car he had, but apparently he was so intimidated by the 8 he decided to slam his gas and attempt show up everyone else on the road. Unfortunately, I don't race, and didn't care, so he only managed to look like an idiot as he flew up the lane to the next stoplight where he got stuck behind a bunch of cars.
I got tailed by a Toyota Matrix yesterday- kept changing lanes behind me and sped up and slowed down when I did- not sure if he was admiring the car or just being a pain.
crosswound 12-29-2003, 02:52 PM i get a lot of looks from bmw's and honda's mostly
