View Full Version : problem need help
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 09:37 AM my engine coolant light comes on ive read all the threads but mine goes of if i put the clutch down. its drinking engine coolant like its drinking oil plus the engine can get really really hot.......... leaving the air intake on sends hot air thru
dozer 04-24-2009, 09:38 AM are you sure its "drinking it"....might just be a faulty sensor.
does your coolant level go down? any leaks?
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 09:46 AM yeah itz empty every 2 weeks
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 09:47 AM cant see any leaks
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 09:49 AM any ideas
StealthTL 04-24-2009, 09:55 AM Serious problem.
"Engine gets hot' and 'drinks coolant' means new engine, see dealer.
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 09:58 AM honest??? they de-flooded it a few months back you think they caused the problem maybe its time for a part ex. ive kept it oil'd up everything but its been one problem after another
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 10:03 AM cant afford new engine
ndhoffma 04-24-2009, 10:06 AM 'drinks coolant' might mean something very serious... like coolant leaking into the engine... I doubt the flooding had anything to do with it, but either way see the dealer asap on that
Are you over 100k on milage? The engine has a longer warranty than the rest of the car
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 10:08 AM seeing a dealer is expensive business
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 10:10 AM na only 50 000
ndhoffma 04-24-2009, 10:11 AM seeing a dealer is expensive business
That it is... but there is not a whole lot else to do but see someone who know what they are doing on an issue like this, if you aren't able to diagnose it.
Since you are under warranty on the engine, it should be fine.... Have them look at it; does not sound like an issue that just a few parts will solve
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 10:14 AM in the uk i dnt no how long engine warranty is
StealthTL 04-24-2009, 10:15 AM Just get the problem diagnosed - the problem is called 'water ingression' and is covered for 100k miles......
The cooling fans have possibly quit and overheated the block, you may get charged for a new fan, but the engine should be free.
The dealers all know about the warranty for this, but may play dumb to get you to pay. Don't buy it, see a different dealer.
I had this problem, fixed free (thanks Mazda!) only charge was for new oil and coolant.
dozer 04-24-2009, 10:15 AM engine core warranty ends at 100k miles
CTrx8 04-24-2009, 10:18 AM or you can spend all of that money to continue to put coolant in and pretend there isn't an issue. the cost of all of that coolant will quickly add up to any diagnostic fee you may have to incur.
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 10:18 AM in the uk stealth?? my mazda big rip off...... chrged me £500 to de-flood the engine
dozer 04-24-2009, 10:20 AM out here theyll charge $400+ usd just to do that
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 10:21 AM just spent hundreds changing tyres break pads and getting it serviced!!!!!!!!!
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 10:22 AM il put water in lol forget coolant
dozer 04-24-2009, 10:24 AM tires are gonna be kinda pricey...oil changes, brake pads and sh*t like that, you can do yourself and save yourself $$$$$
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 10:27 AM rx8 nowt but probs
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 10:28 AM already got all dat changed now il have to spend more..........
dozer 04-24-2009, 10:28 AM it is a sports car, not a civic, you gotta pay to play
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 10:32 AM sell
ndhoffma 04-24-2009, 11:37 AM Nice things are expensive... you've got big wheels, big brakes, an odd engine & a rare car... none of that ends up to cheap... but it does add up to be fun!
afzaldas 04-24-2009, 11:41 AM sell rx8 off
CTrx8 04-24-2009, 11:45 AM sell rx8 off
good idea.
Razz1 04-24-2009, 12:07 PM Jack up car and remove lower tray to look for leaks or check the over flow resoviour bottle.
It can leak from the bottom. This is a common problem for it to crack.
Also it could be leaking from the water pump but you you can't see it due to the under tray.
You can check your oil to see if its been leaking into the engine.
Find the problem.
RXheart 04-24-2009, 04:02 PM Get rid of it instead of fixing it, so somebody else can be dumped with the same problem.
Razz1 04-24-2009, 04:07 PM So if my car over heats but doesn't leak coolant I should sell it when all it needs is a thermostat?
Get real... find the problem then make a judgement.
RXheart 04-24-2009, 04:15 PM If you sell it, it will end up in the hands of an old granny who spent her retirement to get a beautiful car. Little does she know the engine will probably be blown soon and not covered under warranty and then she has to live in poverty for the rest of her life. Is that what you want ?
ndhoffma 04-26-2009, 11:11 PM Smash it into a tree, collect the insurance and buy one without the coolant issue
