View Full Version : versus
80CuIn 12-23-2003, 05:36 PM Why the constant comparisons on this fourm? RX8 vs this, vs that? My car is faster than your car...nay nay. Just like my dad can beat up your dad....nay nay. Why?
No matter how great your car or my car may be, there is always another car which is faster, handle better ect., ect., ect. The road alwasy ends. You eventually catch up with on comming traffic, lights, ect., ect. ,ect. When you kill another motorist in a drag, what do you get?
I know, I know, I don't have to read the post. And all the major car magazines compare. But in the end, .5 seconds does not make a difference in the real, everyday life, world.
At the end of the day, we pull in our garage, or parking space and our cars don't run 1/4 miles. In the end of the day, we are all the same.
BTW, I love my 8. Even with it's 237hp engine (maybe less). Its all I need in this world of excess.
Sorry for the rant, just discussing.

S3/P3/E2 12-23-2003, 05:37 PM Al, I think you just won the common sense award for the day. :)
mikeb 12-23-2003, 05:39 PM I read those threads for fun
they always go on and on
Elara 12-23-2003, 05:43 PM 80CuIn, I'd hug you if I could reach through the computer.
moRotorMotor 12-23-2003, 05:48 PM Al, I couldn't have said it better myself. I don't know what the big deal is about anyways. Many of us will never go to a drag strip or a road course and yet, we need the numbers (hp,tq, 1/4 mile, 0-60...) to quench our ego. When in the real world, to a certain extent, have no big changes in the way we get from point A, to point B. But, we are humans in the end and instinctively competitive by nature... it's a never ending story...
racerdave 12-23-2003, 05:58 PM Yeah, 80... good stuff.
The 8 is all I need for the street... and THEN some. It's still way more car than can be *safely* and regularly be used to the limit of its ability.
Comparisons can be fun... but in the end, if you enjoy the car you're driving, well, then STFU and drive it. :)
Magnesium 12-23-2003, 06:46 PM Because my car is better than your car. :)
80CuIn 12-23-2003, 06:53 PM It's nice to see that you folks agree.
One day, when the weather breaks. I'd like to wake up one early Sunday morning. Just before daybreak. With very few motorist on the road. I find that nearby mountain road. The one I always take to work, but is always congested. But now, there is no one. No hp,tq, 1/4 mile, 0-60...(quote: moRotorMotor) in my head. No one needs to hear my exhaust note, see my headlights on the horizon, no one needs to know. I attack (although cautiously). The RX8 versus the open road.
Then come Monday morning, as drive along with the rest of the rats to work. I smile when I come across the hair pin or the rising crest, or that straight, I took the day before. And know that there is another Sunday morning waiting to challenge me and my 8.
PS. my wife needs to know (ha).
Have a happy and safe holiday.

Kaliken 12-23-2003, 07:17 PM I concur.. isn't enough just to say that you love your car... i do.. I tell it that every day..
bobclevenger 12-23-2003, 07:33 PM Thanks Al, your post ought to be required reading.

khoney 12-23-2003, 07:53 PM I started a thread a few weeks back called "Battle of the 8's: RX-8 vs. Lincoln Mark VIII" to spoof "Battle of the 8's: RX-8 vs. EVO VIII" and illustrate this very point (how ridiculous it's gotten), but some moderator deleted it :(
