On Sunday I did my first Zainoing of my new 8. Here's what I did.

Dawn wash
clay car
Z7 wash
1st coat Z5
2nd coat Z5
3rd coat Z2

Now here's where I think I could have messed up. On the first Z5 coat I forgot to add in the ZFX. I realized it after applying polish to the hood only and wiped it off right away.

Then I added in the ZFX and polished the whole car. I remembered to add in the ZFX for the 2nd Z5 coat and the Z2 coat.

The guy I bought the Zaino products from is saying I should re-clay the hood and re-apply Zaino to the hood.

Did I weaken the bonding process of the Zaino on the hood surface by forgetting to add in the ZFX on the very first coat or am I ok?

I wouldn't imagne you caused any problems. The ZFX is only a fast dry agent so you don't have to wait as long as the older process.

The only other thing you should be doing is to spray the Detailer cleaner (Z6?) inbetween coats. It is suppose to help make it easier to remove the Z5 or Z2.

I did 2xZ5, then 2xZ2 over a weekend, looks great.

Also, spray the detailer (Z6?) on your applicator before you begin.

Spray Z6 on the sponge applicator before I begin?

Is Zaino like sunscreen? You know what they say about sunscreen, once you get past SPF 20 or so you're not gaining a whole lot.

At what point is there enough Zaino layers? Is 10 better than 5? Is 20 better than 10? Enquiring minds want to know :)

Yes spray the detal spray on the applicator to moisten it before you put the z5 or z2 on, it lets the polish spread more evenly. Yes ten is better than five. I put 2 coats on immediately after I got the 8, and 3 more when I added other things (strakes etc). I've seen pics with 20 coats on and they are awesome. More layers = more depth.
