Oil Drain Plug Gasket

OK I am chaing my oil today. Went and bought KN filter and Royal purple oil.
I asked for the drain plug gasket and was told they have one that is exact same spec... They said it was just a 14mm gasket so they gave me a 14mm copper drain plug gasket.
Upon removing the one on the car I see that it is not copper but silver colored.
The copper one is slightly larger outer diameter. about 1.5 mm larger OD, the ID is the same. Will this work without causing a problem?

Unfortuneatly my car is sitting without oil or a drain plug at the moment... so have to get it right before can drive car.... grrrr

It should be fine. Do not worry about the color of the gasket since they are different metals. Ones copper and the other steel. I do not think the OD will affect or hit anything so put it on. Just check for leaks when you start the car. But you will be fine do not worry.

cool! thanks.
Cleaned area with parts cleane after installing and sprayed a little bit of magaflux on, so if there is a leak it will pop up like a sore thumb.
I was more worried about possible difference in torque specs between copper and steel washer.
Cheers,
yoshi

I used spec of 27ft/lbs. I saw that range was 25.4-28... so went in the middle.
If I cant find a torque spec I wont do it. Have seen way too many probs resulting from improperly torqued stuff.
I was pretty confident it would be fine with copper washer just wanted to hear another oppinion. While I have a lot of motorcycle wrenching experience/training, car stuff is only what I have done on my own cars.

Can say they put that filter in a spot that is a pain in the *** to get to..... I dont have little dainty hands and arms....

Everythgin went just fine BTW

cool! Oil speedbleeds can save a bunch of time. I, however love hot oil dripping all the way down to my elbow after dropping the plug into guess where? Yup, the oil drain pan I think it's time to invest in one of these.

It makes changing your oil so much easier. Send them and email or call them and they will tell you what you need.

The Fumoto valve is nice, but for our car it needs a 25mm extension, which makes the whole thing stick out a bit.

It's not an offroad vehicle, so should be ok.....

Copper colored copper gaskets are best, otherwise they might not be soft enough....the silver one is prolly aluminum, and therefore not as soft/compliant/pliable.

^+1 Copper is nicely malleable, so it makes a great compression washer for this.

The nicest ones I've used were on old VW bugs. Thin malleable copper wrapped around some type of fiber core. They squished real nice.

On this car, I got a fumoto valve right away. 5 years and counting.
