View Full Version : So, I my BlueFlame Exhaust system
jsjjr 04-10-2009, 06:16 PM came in... I had it installed.... I'll have to add some clips later, but this thing is sa-weeeet!!
Took my guy about 45 mins to complete. Most of the clips are taken from home
nuke0907 04-10-2009, 06:27 PM those tips stick out kinda far.
what is blue flame?

what is blue flame?
Sorry took so long, I was trying to get some sound clips, but it's kinda hard to shift and record at the same time. I might have to get the wifey (if she don't freak out) to record while I get some sound bites from the interior and drive by. The only (small) clip I have is at idle then getting on it just a little..(our neighborhood has a strict enforcement code against that sort of thing). I'll have to figure a way of getting it on here or linking it to Photobucket.
BlueFlame is a UK exhaust manufacturer. Here is a link to their web page:

I've only heard this exhaust on a few other cars, but no RX8's... so I call the guy up just to make sure their specs fit American RX8's.. yep. They shipped it last Thursday, I got Monday this week. Sounds very deep and throaty when you get on it, but it's pretty quiet inside cruising at 70 in 6th. I'm pleased..
jsjjr 04-10-2009, 07:23 PM As far as the tips, I kinda like them like that..their def out just a tad too far, but it looks good standing next to it. The pix really don't give it justice.
Ross_Dawg 04-10-2009, 07:50 PM what diameter is that piping? looks somewhat small for an aftermarket catback

Naw, it's the pictures..
damir662 04-11-2009, 07:11 AM I think it looks REALLY nice. Not over the top and not too close to stock. Didn't even know this one existed.

DOMINION 04-11-2009, 07:28 AM Is it 3"?
Ross_Dawg 04-11-2009, 12:35 PM Naw, it's the pictures..
so.... yeah, what diameter is the piping?
laythor 04-11-2009, 02:09 PM i thought "blue flame" was when you lit a fart?
9krpmrx8 04-11-2009, 02:13 PM So where did you buy it?

jsjjr 04-12-2009, 09:31 PM Let me see if I did this right....here is a clip I just made a few minutes ago. My HOA has very strict codes against this sort of thing, so I had to wait until now to do it..then get the heck out of dodge before anyone realizes who it was.http://s31.photobucket.com/albums/c386/jamzan_2/?action=view¤t=MazdaRX8BlueFlameExhaustClip.flv
9krpmrx8 04-13-2009, 12:14 AM So how much did you pay?
streettuner08 04-13-2009, 12:34 AM Wow I never thought anybody in the U.S would have this exhaust. I noticed I have never really seen it talked about around here. Here is a youtube video of a flyby.

jsjjr 04-13-2009, 09:15 AM Cool... I've been meaning to get a drive-by...It really sounds much better in person..
jsjjr 04-14-2009, 08:24 AM The size of the piping is 2.5". Cost me $488.00 total (shipping included) from the UK. I'll try to get some more clips out when I can. Everything is straight bolt-on...no fuss, no muss.
kersh4w 04-15-2009, 01:07 AM stock piping is 2.5" afaik.
turbo xs is 3", $500+shipping from maryland.
although, the turbo xs is loud. heh. but i do prefer it.
both exhausts have tip problems. you are going to melt your exhaust shrouds eventually with that exhaust. its too close to the sides. i run without my exhaust shrouds due to the turbo xs tips being too short.
jsjjr 04-15-2009, 08:27 AM Exhaust systems (by themselves) will net you absolutely nothing on a NA car.. No matter the car..Any gain is negligible, so at this point, it's just preference in tone (or noise if you will), looks, tubing size (which matters not). I bought it because I like the sound better than some of the others and it looks cool.
onyx8 04-15-2009, 02:13 PM ^^^First statement completely untrue, but nonetheless, for our car it is negligible. So, if it sounds good, then good job. I think it looks pretty good.

That was a sweeeet come back!!! I'm laughing my ass off!:smoker:

you are so ignorant its not funny.
a full 3" headerback system that includes a cat delete pipe will net at least 10whp. at least. more likely 12-15whp.
and a COMPLETELY new exhaust system, including a new header, can net up to 18whp.
this is coming from the koni challenge rx8 race teams.

No, not really...I should have made my statement a little clearer and state a 'Catback' by itself as that is all I've purchased..so that, in of itself, will net you negligible hp gains. Your butt meter might say otherwise. But a full system, yes. This is not my first car nor the first time I've modded a car, (although a first for a Wankel)..
kersh4w 04-16-2009, 02:37 PM thats fine. just a new catback will be negligible. 5whp at MOST. more like 2whp.
you will get a much larger performance boost by simply not filling up past a 1/4 tank.
tiltmode43 04-16-2009, 03:43 PM Seems pretty obvious jsjjr was referring to the catback - "exhaust system" as layman's terms. You were taking his words so literal, "it's not even funny!"
Also seems pretty obvious jsjjr wanted an exhaust for aesthetics/sound, not once does he claim anything of power.
jsjjr - nice, affordable exhaust; its always nice to see an alternative that is not entirely played out/common!:lol2:

Ha ha, thanks man....you must be an 'old soul' too!
tiltmode43 04-16-2009, 09:20 PM I was a bit grumpy at the time of the post too, haha.
Anyways, enough straying from the topic, lol
shazy 04-16-2009, 09:57 PM Sounds pretty awesome! But the stock piping sucks.... but still sounds meaty.
jsjjr 05-13-2009, 11:59 AM Just wanted to post this for those that are still stuck on 'bigger is better'.
"None have been shown to do a whole lot in the way of power gains over stock although there is some improvement. There are systems anywhere from 2 ½” to 3” in total size. If we added up the total area of the exhaust runners leaving the engine, we’d actually find that when combined they have a total area equal to a single 3 1/8” pipe. Why then do we want a 2 ½” or 3”

On another note, I'm planning on getting some more sound clips, possibly a drive-by this weekend. Truly awesome exhaust note AND, no MELTED SHROUDS.
