Hey, you guys need to read this post, especially those who are NOT premixing:

http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?p=2901457#post2901457

Start premixing NOW!
Good advice! Take if from me and 04! New engine is nice, but should not be needed if the orig. was well taken care of!

Okay, So im super bored today :(

Ahhh, it's such a nice, sunny, dry day that I think I'll hop in my 8 and go for a nice cruise. This is my last weekend with my stock exhaust.

Having the Mazdaspeed catalog right in front of me is going to be dangerous as long as I have some pocket money.

It can be an acquired taste. I didn't like the taste until I was about 26 or 27. Before that, I just drank for the effect. Now for some reason I can tell the subtle differences between brews and a good one is pretty sweet nectar.

After I mow the lawn in summer time, when it's hot and I'm dying of thirst, an ice-cold beer is about the best thing in the world. It's as if the entire universe was created and evolved just for that moment.

I guess it's like drinking milk, in reverse. Some guys hit their 20's and suddenly milk tastes sour to them- that's what happened to me. I sniff a brand-new carton of milk and it smells BAD. I have to gag it down. I'm not lactose intolerant, but the stuff smells and tastes like it turned. :puke:

Also, I seem to be having a little issue with my 8, hopefully someone here can help. the other day when the wife was driving she called me freaking out because the ABS, parking brake and traction control lights all came on. Didnt think much of it since it hasnt done it the last few days, well it did it again to me this morning. Any idea what would cause this? A credit union is your best bet- especially for savings and loans. Second best is a local bank. The big, national banks don't give a rat's hat about you and your account.

I insure it as a recreational vehicle, which allows me 5,000 miles per year. I don't drive it in winter, and the rest of the year it's my weekend "fun car". I drive to work and run most of my errands in an old Explorer that I've had since '91.

Anyways, I was about to overdraw my account so I deposited more money in there in the AM, which in the past has ALWAYS had it available for use (well up to 300 of what you deposited) immidaitly. So I went and got some food for lunch and dinner and then one other small purchase. they freaking overdrafted me for the three things after I depsoted the money in there and they wont give it back now

Not at all, if you buy Mazda parts and they install it there is nothing they can say, cause they would be condemning their work or their engineering if they did.

Jethro Tull
03-10-2009, 09:30 PM
Guys, I just got home and it's too dark for good pictures, but after I shower and change I'll try and snap one with artificial light.

The drive home was AWESOME. The sound isn't really loud, but it's deeper, throatier, more robust. You can FEEL it more. You guys with similar exhausts know what I'm talking about. At highway speeds, you can tell it's a tad louder, but the stereo easily drowns it out.

The exhaust tips are larger and they fill the openings in the bumper better than the stock tips. One side is just a tad higher than the other, I noticed tonight, so I'm going get that adjusted. They have "MAZDASPEED" engraved on them.

Those twin cans are just swimming in space under the car, where the OEM muffler used to be. The heat shield is HUGE for those things now!

I noticed that the exhaust stinks when I got home. I wonder if this is standard for all new exhausts?

They also did a reflash while I was there, the latest factory-ordered tweak that is supposed to prevent a power loss, though they couldn't tell me more than that. I'll have to look it up myself I suppose.

Tim, bose is right. It's a Mazda part so it doesn't affect the warranty at all, and it even comes with it's own warranty for parts and labor. In fact both the service manager and parts guy were asking me when I was going to buy the Mazdaspeed intake, LOL!

I'll be picking up my old exhaust from them tomorrow, when I take my Explorer to work. Bountiful Mazda is only a couple of miles from my office. They wrapped the tips in bubble wrap for me and have it stashed in the parts department. I managed to fit the new exhaust inside the 8 by taking it all out of the boxes. The pipe went in the trunk and the can assembly fit in the back seat, with a big fat coat thrown over the center console for padding. Mazda Bear sat on top and made sure the load didn't shift. But the stock exhaust is one piece (surprise!) and too dirty anyway to ride home in the 8.

I'll shoot a video clip soon, with sound, and either post it on U-tube or Photobucket.

All in all, a good day. :)

Tim Tim Tim
03-10-2009, 09:35 PM
awesome man congrats, a new mod is always a blast. im sure the un even tips is an easy fix, done it myself 100 times on other cars in the past. So this morning I drive the company pickup over to Bountifu Mazda to pick up my old exhaust, and afterwards I stop into the service bay to talk to them about leveling my new tips just a tad.

There is a black 8 in there, and the owner is a very attractive young lady talking to the other service writer.

I'm explaining why I want to bring my 8 back this afternoon, she overhears and turns to me, and says:

"Are you Jethro Tull?"

Nice to meet you Tully! I can't wait to come drive with you guys! I haven't done anything to mine really because I can't bring myself to spend the $-it costs so much to just keep it running good. :( plus I just bought a condo, so I've been really busy...and broke! Maybe when I get taxes back.....

Ok so when and where are we meeting??

And I was captivated at our meeting as well, my dear! :)

Don't worry about mods, the car is pretty sweet just bone stock, as you well know. And congrats on the condo! We just paid-off our house 2 years ago and I don't care if I ever see another mortgage again for the rest of my life. But it's nice to own your own place, isn't it?

As far as meets, there's the all-Mazda club in Sugarhouse park on the 21st, I think, but we need an RX-8 exlusive, like we just did at Iggy's 2 weeks ago. That was fun. Only we should drive afterwards.

Are you generally free on weekends, En?

Enigmah

Yeah it's pretty sweet, thanks. And thanks for all the kind words! (I'm sure I don't deserve them). You're not nearly as creepy as Phil ;)

Weekends are usually best, but not this one, it's my birthday Sunday and I'm probably going snowboarding Saturday. Gotta get in all the AWESOME spring riding! The 21st is doable, we could drive from there, what time do they meet? There's a "Habitats for Humanity" build in the morning that I'm still trying to decide if I want to volunteer for.

Yeah, I'm embarrassed to say it but mod's are a pretty low priority for me, I feel like I'm spoiling myself enough as it is just to be driving it every day! :D:

ill most likely be working..

in other news, the car got ran into today :(. Looks like I will be getting a new front bumper soon. Wife was going back to work in the parking lot, another car in front of her was stopped because someone was backing out, well wife stopped and the lady in front backed up right into her... TWICE!!!. Its pretty scratched up and dented a bit, also mis aligned with the fender a tad. Nothing serious, just a new bumper and grill needed now.

Is the Cottonbottom the place at the end of Cottonwood lane, that used to be called "The Haggis" about 30 years ago? Or is it the place that used to be called "Demets", up the road a bit? Got an address?
That was my old stomping ground back in high school and the few years after, but it's been so long that I'm sure I wouldn't recognize anything up there anymore.

03-17-2009, 09:04 PM
The only reason they tell you to rev up before you turn off is so the gas can cycle out of the rotary so you don't have a flood but honestly I don't think you have to do it every time, just on cold days and when you don't let the eng. warm up... As far as hurting the car, I don't think so its a rotary lol.

yeah, im not complaining. I get to drive a car getting 35mpg right now which is really helpfull since we put over 50 miles a day since were both sharing the car haha. Also get a brand new front bumper :)

As for the reving it up. Its for sure not needed every time you turn it off. Depending on the year it probably doesnt need it at all. Id say the 04 and 05's only need it if its on the original engine and its cold out and you dont let it warm up. The others id say the problem is fixed. I never do any revs and dont always let it warm up and never have had an issue

The only reason they tell you to rev up before you turn off is so the gas can cycle out of the rotary so you don't have a flood but honestly I don't think you have to do it every time, just on cold days and when you don't let the eng. warm up... As far as hurting the car, I don't think so its a rotary lol.

thanks all you guys for your input...
now what time are you guys planning to meet for a bite at the cotton bottom place.? and what time is the metting at??

What time is the meet itself, and it's at Sugarhouse Park, yes?

I'm probably going to have to choose between the Cottonbottom and the meet; won't have time for both. If so I'll take the meet itself.

Are they planning on a BBQ at the park? Is that a bring your own meat affair? I'm down for the cottonbottoms still but either way I will be at the park at 300.

Ed, I just realized you hit me up on myspace. Good to see you on the boards, and hopefully at the meet. Don't worry about the revving like others said unless you have problems with cold start and so forth. You not hurting anything, as long as you redline the engine she'll be good to you.

Hiya fellas. I'm down for the burgers and meet too! Problem is I got fired yesterday! What a joke. So you know how I've been working at CR England for the last month? Well there's a little 7 11 type store inside the building and its right next to me. I forgot to bring food that night and I was in good standing with the owners and I figured they wouldnt mind if I got some chips and a drink and just paid when they opened the next morning.
Well the time for them to come in and start opening came but I had been asked by the people running the restaurant to come and cut some locks for them because theyd forgotten their keys. When I came back from that the store people were already there and looking at the camera feed. I told them it was me and what I was doing and they seemed ok with it. Little did I know they were calling my boss and the police to press charges for theft.
My company's hands were tied because the charge made my security license null. The cop thought it was insane that they were charging me but couldnt do anything. I took something out of the store while it was closed and if they wanted to call it stealing that was up to them regardless of whether or not i paid later.
Long story short I am out of a job and now have a class B misdemeanor for theft ($2.97 which i paid) on my record that I'm going to have to try and explain. Luckily my bosses and supervisors all said theyd give me a good recommendation and I'm trying to get a hold of the cop so I can ask him if he'd be willing to explain the situation to any enquiring potential employers. I'm looking for new jobs now but I think I'm fucked.

Personally I wasnt a big fan of this meet just due to everyone talking shit, And this -

meet review!!!

alright so the meet was good today really nice meetin everyone and seeing their mazdas. for the most part

however i suggest the next meet for anyone wants to do their burnouts donuts or constantly rev their engine, go to another parking lot or go down the road. it was very annoying and childish. we dont want our meets to have a bad name to them or mazdas period, leave that shit for the ricers in there piece a shit cars. alot of us were pretty pissed this was going on, we dont want all the attention drawn to our meet so cops start showin up, we dont want to get in trouble for your behavior it aint no state street meet up. and yeah im talkin about the rx-8 drivers sorry if thats to harsh for some. -

So my reply was this:

Honestly,
I could have run around in circles is that childish? (hence I don't have my license nor car) HEHE

raleighRX8

Nobody said anything until this morning. But apparently some people got mad at me for reving my engine when some guys wanted to hear my exhaust, and when snowboard came back from getting his wheels looked at he did a donut in the parking lot!

DariusDemon
03-22-2009, 06:17 PM
Haha wow... Its a car meet! I understand if that was all we were doing but a single donut and a few engine revs? We werent doing it anymore than anyone one else and our cars sounded like music compared to those 4 inch exhausts and what not. Good lord. I think im gonna stick to 8 meets though. I'm not a huge fan of 3's or 6's. I came cause I was hoping for some rx-7's and to meet some cool new people. Aside from meeting Brad and his gf none of that happened haha. I was quite bored. I'd complain more but i dont want to be told my signature is too big haha.

Jethro Tull
03-22-2009, 08:17 PM
Without commenting specifically on what happened, since I had left by then, I tend to agree with Darius. You have to expect certain things at a car meet. Revving up engines is part of the experience. I did it on my way in, and on my way out again, though my exhaust is on the quiet side of after-market pipes. I'm a little old to do donuts in the parking lot. They'll take away my AARP card if I get caught. ;)

While I like other Mazdas, I'm an old rotor-head, having owned a first-gen RX-7 back in the dinosaur days (lol), and that's the reason I bought my 8. Speed 3's are cute...at a distance.

I may stick to 8 and 7 meets from now on, also.

I like your sig, Darius. It's what it's all about. We have a good bunch of likeable people in our little group.

If your sig is too big, I'll lose a few pounds. ;)

I will add that if there's going to be a lot of noise and smoke, a public park is probably not the right venue. Most people go there for a quite different experience, and we have to respect that or we'll get tossed from the park. Or we should reserve a pavillion out near the perimeter of the park instead of right in the middle.

Although, in my opinion it was a very controlled 180 atleast 30 feet from any pedestrian... oh well, I get the point that we don't want any bad rep or have to kick and envious kid and his dog's ass at any meet.

I also did not care for most other mazda's or their drivers except the speed3 that took a drive with us.
