Klone 10-15-2008, 03:24 PM Double turns in Utah are the worst. North Temple and State street is terrible and most of the time people don't realize there are two turn lanes. Sorry about your car, at least you are physically OK, although I would be pretty upset. Good luck sorting out the details with insurance, hopefully they will take care of it quickly.
Jethro Tull 10-15-2008, 05:22 PM Even on the single left-turn lanes, people here tend to swing wide so they end-up in the far-right lane. If you do it right and stay in the left lane, then signal and try to change lanes to the right side the proper way, you find the guy behind you in the turn is already there, and swearing at you for assuming he'd follow the law as well.
Thanks for the concern fellas. I am just a bit upset about it all but it is what it is. Yeah, I hope the ins. co. does their job in a timely manner.
Enigmah 10-15-2008, 10:59 PM oh bose! i'm so sorry to hear it! I'm glad your ok! Yeah Utah female drivers are the WORST!!! That same exact thing happened to me and a friend like a week ago, except she pulled a U-TURN from the right left turn lane, right in front of us! Luckily we were still mostly stopped. So we followed her to chew her out but she wouldn't roll down the window and her passenger made up for his drivers stupidity by making out with her. Idiots! Well it should all be covered and over soon, and you'll get some smooth new front end paint out of the deal :)
RX8snowboard, where are you getting a pass at? or where do you usually go snowboarding? we should totally go this season...in someone elses car :) There are whole threads about that second gear grinding, I think there's a guy who finally got his fixed, should be warranty work-you just gotta know the right key words to say. Search the site for it.
I am in town this Sunday afternoon and down to ride, I'll be up in Ogden again. I saw a gray one in the Harrison Grounds for Coffee parking lot...Husain? I forgot what color yours is...
That salt is nasty but if the car was sealed and painted well in the first place, it should take a while for that crap to eat through it, especially if you take good care of it, but it will eventually. I talked to a few other people at SSXI who were also already getting rust inside the hood and trunk, but I just think its WAY too soon for that especially cuz they live in CA. I think Mazda just did a crappy job getting a complete and uniform paint job on these cars and left some inconspicuous exposed spots to invite the corrosion! I am in the process of seeing what they can do for mine, which is obviously rusted from the inside out.
Jethro Tull 10-16-2008, 12:14 AM I guess the new eyelids are history, bose?
Enigmah 10-16-2008, 12:48 AM ok it definitely was not Husain...
rx8snowboard 10-16-2008, 01:39 AM I usually ride at brighton but I didn't have the money for a season pass this year :( I want to ride at the canyons this year just to see how it is but I'm up for anything that has snow :) my brother has a VR-4 we usually take up, that thing has no problem with the snow.. even if it has to go under it! lol
Jethro Tull 10-16-2008, 11:38 AM I've got an Explorer and a Forester for the snow...my 8 has hot chocolate sitting by the fire all winter...:)
Oh yeah, JT I will more than likely need a replacement just for the passenger side though, but it just depends I will let you know if the body shop can salvage the one on there or not.
Jethro Tull 10-20-2008, 11:44 AM Any updates on the repairs bose?
No sweat on a new eyelid if you need it. Just say the word.
04rx8gr 10-20-2008, 11:49 AM Hey . . do you make eyelids? Did i miss this post? I want some
Yes, JT makes fine eyelids, I put up some pics too a couple pages back.
Yes, I spoke to the body shop they said they are doing an alignment today, checking for any suspension damage, but he says there is nothing that looks bent. Then he will be painting tomorrow morning and I may have my baby back by Wednesday evening. I'm pretty excited.
Jethro Tull 10-20-2008, 01:07 PM That is a LOT quicker than you were originally thinking it would be...SO glad that it turned out to be nothing serious!
04, PM me if interested in eyelids after you check out Bose's fotos. Post #772 in this thread. Page 31 or 32, IIRC....
I knew 1 week was to good to be true...The body shop just got the car back from the alignment shop and I have a bent upper control arm :spank: so it wont be finished until Monday. :crying:
Jethro Tull 10-23-2008, 06:39 PM Damn bose, and this might be the last good weekend of the year, too!
SHhhh, don't jinx it. But I did go and see her, and see looks pretty good.
Jethro Tull 10-24-2008, 02:57 PM ^Next week's weather forecast is so-far encouraging, with daytime highs near 70- keep your fingers crossed. Of course, any weather prediction more than 72 hours ahead is a crapshoot, but we can hope.
Bose, did the body shop save the eyelid, or should I shoot up another one?
Oh yeah they said the eye lid was salvageable, I think they even repainted it. I didn't get to look up close just drove by. But my clear corner is a goner so I have one clear and one yellow for now. That will have to be fixed.
rx8snowboard 10-25-2008, 01:23 AM Sunlight Silver that is always parked at a house on 45th and inbetween 9th and 11th E. ? anyone?
Jethro Tull 10-25-2008, 03:20 AM Black RX-8 seen in the Walmart parking lot at Jordan Landing, Friday around 2 PM. I was going to leave a note on the windshield when I got out of the store, but the car was gone.
Looks like it had stock rims and might not have had a sunroof, so I know it wasn't Darius.
Anyone?
Enigmah 10-25-2008, 04:44 PM yeah, hit me up rx8 snowboard, I totally want to go to the canyons this year too, i've never been either
Whaaaasssup UTAH!
just dropping by to say hello...
BTW, if it hasn't been mentioned yet, Enigmah is a badass. She drove to Sevenstock SOLO and met the Vegas peeps. ;)

Now I feel like an idiot. It never occured to me that En is a woman! :dunce: :banghead:
Forgive me if I've put my foot in my mouth, En. I guess if we could actually get a meet going more than once a year, these things woudn't happen. We should have one quickly, before my baby gets garaged for winter. :eyetwitch
And if Phil is a troublemaker, then I'm doubly proud of him!
Enigmah 10-27-2008, 01:02 AM Haha it's totally cool Tully, you didn't, and even if you had, I'm totally used to it :) and don't feel dumb, I didn't try to make it obvious, cuz it doesn't matter :wiggle:
and YEAH! we need to meet, like ALOT next summer. I tried to weather proof her surfaces as best as I could Sat. then drove around wishin the rest of you were with me :uhh:

I think we need to meet this SATURDAY, the weather is still up in the air, but Sat looks promising. Sunday not so much, so let's get it going!
rx8snowboard 10-27-2008, 09:20 PM meet, saturday, yay :) I just cleaned her up today so she should be ready for the weekend :) Enigma is a coffee shop girl who drives a rx-8 and snowboards? sooo bad ass!
Enigmah 10-28-2008, 01:10 AM :D: :D: :D: :D: :D: aw, thanks man!

REMEMBER: flip=MARCO (like "Polo!")
JT are you in?
I think we should shoot for afternoonish. Like 1 or 2. What kind of food does everyone like? There is a new gourmet burger place called The Counter at the gateway. Lots of good Italian and Mexican joints around. So lets get some idea's going.
Phil's 8 10-28-2008, 11:30 AM BTW, if it hasn't been mentioned yet, Enigmah is a badass. She drove to Sevenstock SOLO and met the Vegas peeps. ;)

I had the same problem when introduced to Enigmah and of course being the dirty old man that I am, promptly started drooling and sluring my words. I am the resident Las Vegas TroubleMaker and Dirty old Man:patriot: :icon_droo :)
Haha it's totally cool Tully, you didn't, and even if you had, I'm totally used to it :) and don't feel dumb, I didn't try to make it obvious, cuz it doesn't matter :wiggle:

RoXas585 10-28-2008, 12:20 PM Bose, I am really sorry to hear about what happened with you and your car! That is terrible! I hope it fixed better than new..
I'm totally down for Saturday. I actually have a day off for once! I spent 5 hours yesterday detailing my 8 and I wanna show her off before I garage her for the winter. Lets do it! 1:00 works fine for me. That burger place sounds good to me if there aren't any other suggestions...
BTW- Check out what I picked up in Cali last week! Being the avid toy fan that I am, I could not pass this one up. I didn't even know they existed!

Jethro Tull 10-28-2008, 12:40 PM JT are you in?
I'm busy morning and early afternoon on Saturday, but should be free for a couple of hours in late afternoon, after about 3, if that works.
Im up for anywhere as long as I can get a beer there. It would be nice to stay out of downtown, just so we don't have to park a mile from where we meet and can park together (for pictures and security). But wherever the group wants to go, I'll adjust.
I'm getting my end-of-season oil change on Friday, preparing to park her for the winter. :eyetwitch
I can do three, anyone else have any quams with that? I'm with you JT a beer is a must for me as well. I think maybe Applebee's on state and about 6100 south. Right next to fashion place mall. around 300. Let's hear it, any problems with this anyone? Let's have a decent meet for the end of the driving season.
RoXas585 10-28-2008, 02:23 PM Im there.. Applebees at Fashion Place 3:00 Saturday.
Jethro Tull 10-28-2008, 03:03 PM Mrs. Tull will want to come along, but only if other women will be there. Bose, bring Mrs. bose. And En definitely needs to be there.
It's a plan then. She'll come along no doubt. I make sure she charges up the camera as well.:)
Jethro Tull 10-28-2008, 04:24 PM Thanks for reminding me...I just bought a new hard-drive camcorder (also takes stills) and I'll bring it along.
Tullette jr. may want to tag along, but if I catch any of you young guys drooling over my 16-year old daughter, I'll have to kick you in the stones. :balls:
Sounds good JT, I know my stones will stay intact. I like them a bit more 'seasoned' if you know what I mean.:)
rx8snowboard 10-28-2008, 11:27 PM 3 on sat. I can do :) 6100 is close enough for me. As far as drinks go I am a rum man myself but when I go out beer gets the job done ;) See you all on saturday!
P.S. Jethro, I agree with bose.. I like them seasoned ;)
Sweet, yeah I myself love a good brandy/cognac and on occasion some Patron. There is only one beer I have vowed to drink for the rest of my days, and that is LANDSHARK Lager man is it delicious.
Jethro Tull 10-29-2008, 11:55 AM Provo Girl.
Amen.
04rx8gr 10-29-2008, 12:53 PM Ill be there. . . So saturday at 3, Fashion place Applebees. . . Alright.
Sick, this is gonna be good times.
Jethro Tull 10-29-2008, 06:29 PM I hope Darius can make it, and it would be nice if floyd would come down from Wyoming. Lots of other folks, but I'm not sure who's 8 is running and who's isnt right now.
DariusDemon 10-30-2008, 07:21 PM On never you worry JT. I'll be there.
rx8snowboard 10-30-2008, 08:35 PM I am pretty sure the 3000gt's are meeting over at training table around the same time, we should go over there and show off our sexy rotories after we get a bite :)
Jethro Tull 10-31-2008, 02:13 AM I posted it on the SLC Rotary board; I think we might see a couple of RX-7 owners show-up.
I washed and detailed mine today and got it about half waxed. Oil change tomorrow and I'll see how much farther I can get on the wax job.
I noticed that I picked up quite a few small pits and chips on the nose this season. It will keep me busy getting rid of them this winter while she's parked. I should use that front mask more often, but damn, it sure is ugly.
Sick, I am down to go show off after for sure. Hopefully some of the 7's show up that would be killer.
JT you seem to know what your doing on those rock chips, could you fix a small scratch my girl has acquired on driver's suicide door. It's down to the metal and I don't want to go the winter with her exposed. I will show you tomorrow.
RoXas585 10-31-2008, 01:42 PM Happy Halloween everyone! Hope you have an awesome night and I'm looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow!:)
Jethro Tull 10-31-2008, 04:33 PM Sick, I am down to go show off after for sure. Hopefully some of the 7's show up that would be killer.
JT you seem to know what your doing on those rock chips, could you fix a small scratch my girl has acquired on driver's suicide door. It's down to the metal and I don't want to go the winter with her exposed. I will show you tomorrow.
Sure, I'd be happy to take a look at it.
Jethro Tull 11-02-2008, 12:24 AM Here's the line-up in the Applebee's parking lot today:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii24/JethroTull1958/SLCmeetNov1.jpg
This shot is a chop of two that I did to get everyone's car in the line-up. I'm still trying to learn how to use my JVC hard drive camcorder, and while it takes killer videos, it only takes medium-resolution stills. I'll post more as I get them uploaded and cleaned-up.
Had a great time meeting new folks and seeing old friends. Thanks to everyone who showed-up! Even Shep, SLCrotary admin, dropped by with his two adorable kids, who had a blast driving my SS Nikko RC around the parking lot.
How about our waiter? I told him that my wife wanted a "fruity" drink, and he said that every drink he brings is fruity, lol!
My wife and daughter thought the pull-out and drive-off was totally cool. Did you catch all the other drivers on State street looking at us revving, and zipping that U-turn? What a hoot!
Thanks again gang. We have to do this more often. :icon_tup:
04rx8gr 11-02-2008, 02:42 AM What a great dinner and ride, Was awesome to meet you guys that I haven't already met, And reunite with ones I already did. Although that crazy hoe with the flashers almost killed most of us, it was a really nice ride, Here are the pics I got and tomorrow I will edit a quick video if my video footage turned out okay since I was doing it while I was Driving :Eyecrazy: . . . Here ya are (these are all before photoshop)

rx8snowboard 11-02-2008, 03:57 PM yeah great run guys (no enigma :( ) I had so much fun on the drive, four rotories hitting 8-9k rpm at the same time is the best thing I have ever heard, I can die happy now ;) silly waiter and crazy hoe with flashers, we have some good stories to tell, not to mention the old couple that just went at it right next to us ha ha! Lets not wait to get together again and next summer we better get everyone to show up for a big group photo :)
Great pics guys, JT you need to get a day for good drive cause it was great. That old couple was hilarious.
The waiter was too much for sure, but entertaining none the less. But we do need to do this more often I agree it was a great time seeing everyone.
I almost rear ended that broad. I couldn't believe se was doing that:rant: good thing our little beauties stop as well as they do.
Jethro Tull 11-02-2008, 06:55 PM Interesting that you guys drove up to Big Mountain- I had just taken a cruise up there two weeks ago, no kidding! Love those tight curves below the summit.
We'll do it more often next spring, for sure, and I'll make sure I can get away. I'm buying the kid a beater car of her own sometime next spring or early summer, then she can get herself where she needs to go.
smartyfool 11-03-2008, 12:10 PM Hi guys, long time no see... winter is coming and i am lookin for snow tire. Where is the best place to get snow tire ( good deal) and what kind of brand do you guys suggest ??
The reason is that i dont have a second vehicle...
thanks for all inputs.
04rx8gr 11-03-2008, 12:40 PM It was a very fun ride, me and the roomie went to Park city yesterday. Holy crap on the rain, we couldn't see probably ten feet in front of us. We need to make a spring run up parleys and down thru Alpine canyon :) Would be a blast. .
Alpine canyon run is awesome, we must. The rain was insane even down here.
Jethro Tull 11-03-2008, 01:41 PM As long as the salt isn't on the roads yet, I'm still up for a Wendover cruise this month. Sunny and dry is OK, even if it's not warm.
Be cool to head over on a Friday night, stay at Montego Bay, head back the next morning. The suites at Montego Bay are awesome. Jaccuzi tubs right in the rooms.
Phil's 8 11-03-2008, 03:16 PM Good turnout, as it looks like you have five show. The ride looks like you guys had fun.
It was our best turnout so far since I've been around. Bet you Vegas guys have a few more:lol:
Seriously it was great though.
Jethro Tull 11-05-2008, 12:01 PM I saw the salt trucks out this morning.
DAMN!
That means Jethro is done until next spring. The 8 is garaged until spring rains wash away the road salt. I suppose if we got a warm spell for a few weeks this winter and some good steady rain, I could take it out, but barring that, she stays in the garage.
All of you who drive your 8 all winter, be careful!
I do drive it in the winter but not today. Summer performance tires are about as good a skateboard wheels.
Jethro Tull 11-05-2008, 04:10 PM I had to dash home to get some tools before lunch, and the !@#$%^*&! salt trucks were in my neighborhood!
There's just no need for it this early in the season. With luck, they'll exhaust their salt budget early.
I may as well start skiing again; there isn't going to be any fast driving for a while.
A full day pass is going to be about two full gas tanks. I heard 72 a day for a lift ticket at snowbird. Freaking crazy.
Jethro Tull 11-06-2008, 11:29 AM Yeah, and the way I ski, that would mean $31 a run, lol!
Enigmah 11-06-2008, 03:16 PM Sounds good JT, I know my stones will stay intact. I like them a bit more 'seasoned' if you know what I mean.:)
you mean like pepper, garlic, maybe a little bit of paprika?
Sorry guys, I was really lookin forward to it :( I was so hung over on Saturday (and Sunday, and part of Monday:icon_no2: ) that I didn't even leave the house! When I finally did in the evening I saw a silver 8 on 1100 E and 2100 S. I'm glad you guys had fun though, but you needed another black one :( The pictures look good! I can't even imagine the kinda looks you guys got:naughty:
RoXas, that toy is SICK! I want one!!
Yeah these tires are slick! I'll get my oil changed here in a couple weeks and have them throw on my pirelli's - really amazing snow and ice sport tire, seriously, I was amazed at how well they grip, but get them from big O or Discount tires, for a better price, warranty, etc. Just don't try to mount em yourself, you'll ruin the wheel, or tire, or both. It's not worth the hassle, have the pro's do it.
P.S. Snowbird opens TOMORROW!!!!:jump: and Solitude is not to far behind...maybe I'll go work for one of em, just for the pass. All of them are still hiring.
rx8snowboard 11-06-2008, 10:21 PM I think Brighton opens on the 12th :lol2: I am not sure I will be going up until we get some more snow because I don't want anything but fresh powder for feet under my beautiful option  But I did get those 1200 dollar snow tires on my car that I bought last year :icon_no2: They make my amazing car feel like a cadilac (handling wise) And I have the undercarriage coated from the dealer but I was also very upset to see the salt being put on the roads:banghead: if anyone wants to go ride on the mountain together you should pm me and I will give you my # so we can meet up :ylsuper: :wavey: :wiggle:
Enigmah 11-07-2008, 12:30 AM yeah I take my rock board this early, but I have a friend who's a meteorologist and she said 4' ! Either way, I'm down for those pre-season prices. I'll pm you if I go. i should get my undercarriage coated too (no sick jokes here...) cuz i'm not too impressed already with how well they DIDN'T seal our car (i.e. rusting)
You guys, we do have a really hot little car!
Jethro Tull 11-08-2008, 11:55 PM Love the new avatar, En! You should try and get "BAD ASS" for a license plate!
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii24/JethroTull1958/ADBASS.jpg
I was out in Sandy today. Passed another silver 8 on Ft. Union, about 2-ish. Anyone? I didn't recognize the guy, he was 25-35, dark hair, beard, on the phone.
What are salt trucks?
... :lol2: j/k i'm originally from Chicago so I know the feeling.
Good God why do I have to deal with snow, what diabolical being would create such a horrid concoction of elements. Utterly RANCID.
rx8snowboard 11-10-2008, 06:52 PM I agree that we should not have to deal with the snow unless you want to.. it should only snow in the mountains :)
Phil's 8 11-10-2008, 10:04 PM I agree that we should not have to deal with the snow unless you want to.. it should only snow in the mountains :)
At what elevation do you live?:uhh: With the exception of St. George I seem to remember that Utah is it's own mountain.
Jethro Tull 11-10-2008, 10:50 PM At what elevation do you live?:uhh: With the exception of St. George I seem to remember that Utah is it's own mountain.
Most of the central Salt Lake valley isn't much higher than the Great Salt Lake, around 4300 ft. above sea level or something like that. The Wasatch mountains directly east of the valley rise over a mile higher than that- peaks around 10,000 ft. The Great Salt Lake is the lowest point in the entire Great Basin, which happens to include much of north and central Nevada.
Today's rain in the valley was snow above 6,000 feet, which includes most of the ski resorts that lie up the canyons in those Wasatch mountains.
I remember one winter that was mostly rain in the SL valley, yet the ski resorts had a good snow year. I keep hoping that if global warming does manifest itself, this would be the result for our locale. I'm not holding my breath.
I also remember the winter of '92-93, where I had a 5-foot-deep base in the front yard on New Year's Day '93. I had to tunnel down to the street.

That's about what I figured, as the average of the Great Basin is 4700 feet. That elevation makes for nice summers and cold winters.

I spent some time one summer at an archeological site about 40 miles north of Battle Mountain. Hot as hell. I have been to the middle of nowhere.

Would you believe that there are more remote places in Nevada. Go north of I 80 - there are spots there that are so remote that even the miners have trouble getting to them. Roads up in that area are lucky to see a driver once per day.:uhh: Hell Battle Mountain is a big city for that area:) For sure not like Utah with a Trouper behind every tree.:lol2: Now if you want hot, just come a little south of there in Clark County and we'll show you heat:Eyecrazy:. Love Southern Utah in the summer. Take the motorhome, quads and the jeep and have a good time in the cool air.:)

Usually, southern Utah runs about 10-12 degrees warmer than Salt Lake in summer, not bad at all. In winter its more like 18-20 degrees warmer, even better!
We get a lot of Tucson & Phoenix residents in summer, looking to escape the heat.
I've always thought northern New Mexico wouldn't be bad place to live, climate-wise, year-round. A little winter is OK, if it's short and the snow is so light you don't need to shovel it.

My partners and I purchased a small plot of land for a cabin near Duck Creek (Utah). Brian Head is a short distance away and Brice Canyon and other neat places are also close by. Miles of multi-use forest and trails for the quads and the jeep. We started the cabin but decided to put a hold on it until the economy improves. My only problem is it's so dam high up that I get winded easily. The roads would be nice for the 8 but there is a trouper behind every tree and they have no sense of humor.

I've been thinking, now that the house is paid-off, about buying some land up in the mountains for a little getaway/retirement cabin. I've also always been against involving a motorized vehicle in my wilderness activity, being a hiker, but now you've got me thinking about where I'll be in ten or twenty years. That Jeep or ATV just might be a necessity.
The other side of the coin is, the wife doesn't do the outdoors well at all, being a pampered city girl. I don't have any problems with heading up there alone, but I won't get any spousal support on the project, either. Her idea of a get-away is a condo right in the middle of an expensive resort. Not really a "wilderness" experience...
Does anyone live in Orem/Provo area?

Stick her in Brian Head with all the yuppies. We'll do the four wheeling - At my age hiking is not an option but scooting around on a quad or jeep is heaven. There are established trails for this, not ruining a pristine area.

I believe there are a couple owners down in your area, welcome to the club though.
Thnx bose. Yeah I've seen a balck 8 a couple of times, but that's about it
I think there is a member in Provo with a black 8 I can't remember his name, I wanna say it kobe24mvp or something similar. Introduce your 8 and yourself tell us more.
seriouscoin1 11-12-2008, 10:09 PM I am soo sick of MAZDA! They are charging me $470 for a damn clutch pedal!! This should never break under any circumstance. I drive it nicely and this is what I get? 1 month ago I had to buy a heater control unit $389? This is BS!! Not to mention the 5-6 times I brought it in for the ECM which they replaced. Any suggestions on how to complain to MAZDA? I know it probably will fall on deaf ears but man, I am steaming!!
Ouch! Have they already put in the new pedal? BHR a vendor here makes a reinforced one that is much better for around 175 plus your old pedal. What was wrong with your heater control? Was it not heating at all, or not cooling? Mine was not heating I just pulled the heater control and found some solder joints that had cracked and now it heats again.
Best way to complain is before you pay any money, not to be a dick at all. But you need to call Mazda USA (their number is in your owners manual) and talk to them, make sure to have your VIN just be nice and calm. They won't help anyone who is pissed off.

Are those the prices including install, or just for the parts? The clutch pedal bracket is a known issue, seems that it should be covered as a recall item by now.
Good to see you still around, seriouscoin. Hang in there, the car is worth it, even though we get crap from dealerships on occassion.
Getting some motor mounts from a member on here getreadytogreddy. Good guy in my book. Can't wait to get rid of the rough idle :eyetwitch
seriouscoin1 11-13-2008, 10:28 PM Just got her back. $189.00 Labor, $28.51 "Shop supplies" (2 paper towels probably), $233.31 in Parts (My brand spankin new weak ass pedal). With a grand total ripoff of $469.72! Man I love her but she is an expensive naughty girl! I have written Mazda USA a email, and made a complaint to the safety commision. Hopefully something comes of this. My heater was just blowing cold air. So I dropped it off and they gave me a new one for $398. I hope this is it, the girlfriend is getting mad and wants a different car.
Yeah I could have fixed your heater for free in 45 minutes, their tech are just lazy and throw a new heater control on it, when all it needs is to have the potentiometer re soldered to the printed circuit.
I am here to help anyone who needs it.

Then figure out my weird gargley sound my intake makes :) smarty pants
I think it has to do with the VFAD still being hooked up you need to take off that and cap the line on the intake manifold. Also make sure your not getting any oil in the intake tract, our oil filler neck has a vacuum line from the neck to the intake and some people get a lot of oil blown into the intake. Other than that I'm not sure unless I take a much closer look.
Jethro Tull 11-14-2008, 04:11 PM The weather gods are smiling on Jethro for a few days. I'll be driving my 8 at every opportunity until the snow comes again to stay.
Saw a red 8 going north on I-15 at about 900 north on Wednesday, about 3-ish in the afternoon. Anybody?
Bose, where did you get your strakes? I think I'm going to install a set while she's parked this winter. I'm still trying to decide between the aero flare kit or splash guards...leaning toward the splash guards. Cleaner look.
I got mine from rx8strakes.com, they shipped extremely fast too. They have alot of different styles as well. I like the rear of the aero flare kit but the rest not so much. I would go with the splash probably.
seriouscoin1 11-15-2008, 04:04 PM Quick question for you guys. I was driving my car yesterday in stop and go traffic. Then all of a sudden my car was gutless! Then when I got on it a little bit it sounded like a dirt bike almost. This has happened before, Im thinking its the cat. I looked under the car and the sensor on the cat was glowing red. Do you think that the cat is clogged?? This is driving me nuts. Do you guys have an idea of how much a high flow one would cost? I may just do that being out of warranty. Thanks guys.
^ wow... that doesn't sound good. There are few mid pipes in the "for sale" threads and I think a high flow cat or two... going around $150-$250 A new one runs a bit more. Is your car modded?
seriouscoin1 11-16-2008, 10:15 AM it's not nodded at all. Kind of weird that it will go back to normal next time I drive it. I took it to Mazda last time and they told me it miss fired a couple times but it's okay.
rx8snowboard 11-16-2008, 05:22 PM it miss fired a couple times and they told you it was ok? I would cut their necks... I had a miss fire a couple times and they had to replace my spark plugs (that wasn't it), my spark plug wires next (that wasn't it), finally my ignition coils (bingo!).. good thing it was all under warrenty.. I would be carefull, figure out if the cat is really the problem before you spend money replacing it (not that a high flow wouldn't be worth the money).
Jethro Tull 11-17-2008, 12:17 AM Mine has run perfectly for 20 months, and even with only 8,000 miles on her, I'm going to replace plugs, wires and coils when she comes out of hibernation next March. That will be long enough on the old ones.
Did you get a flashing check engine light? Check your coils for burned spots on the bottom. How many miles are on your 8 and have the plugs and coils ever been changed? It may just be that, but it's pretty easy to check if your cat is clogged but you have to pull it out and look into it. If you haven't had the plugs and coils changed out I would do that first, average life expectancy for these coils in only 25-30k miles. And shop around you can get ripped off easy on these so don't just go to the dealer.
By the way fellas, I'm trying to start a group buy on some grounding kits. Anyone interested? Here's the link to my original thread. http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=160643

seriouscoin1 11-23-2008, 11:19 PM No check engine light, thats the wierd thing! I will probably check for the coils this coming weekend. I will try at least : ) I bought it with about 25,000 miles, now it has about 44,000. I will avoid the dealer like the plague! If I go there anymore I will be one broke sorry sob! I'll let you guys know what I find out. I dont post much since I need to go to my parents house to use the computer for now.

rx8snowboard 11-30-2008, 05:55 PM Does anybody know where to get blue park and driving lights? not HID but direct replacements for my lights just blue in color, I have a sport 04 and I've been told that if I put in HID's that the wiring will fail :( so I just want blue lights :)
04rx8gr 12-01-2008, 03:32 AM Just get the Single LED replacements :)
You can get the parking light's from rx8strakes.com, they have a 9 led that looks great. But if you want a great HID kit that is inexpensive and has a lifetime warranty, go to sharphid.com they have kits that don't require any splicing of the stock harness or anything. I installed some on my buddy's WRX 2 months ago and they are perfect, leveled bright as hell and no problems with anything. I am getting a fog light kit for my 8 for Christmas.
rx8snowboard 12-01-2008, 06:57 PM yeah, I looked at rx8strakes.com right after I posted that and was like duh.. Thanks guys :)

Mine did something similar around 50k miles. Turned out there was a brand new recall for the electronics; something about it not dispersing enough oil into the engine soon enough. I had that done and about 5k miles later it hasn't done it since. I'd find a dealer (Bountiful Mazda is really good) describe your symptoms, mention that re-programing recall - it's worth a try.
We all hate the dealers cuz they overcharge for everything. But some of them genuinely try to help you out, and especially for recalls (which we have a TON of) it's worth checking with them first cuz word gets to them first about that stuff. Also, you probably already know but they extended our drive train warranty to 100k. This may not help you - i'm really not sure how extensive that coverage is, but if you can make it look like it was never modified, you might sucker them out of some warranty coverage. But it's also true that the nicer you are (and persistant) the more they'll be willing to help out.
P.s. nice to meet you ;)
Enigmah 12-01-2008, 10:13 PM I also remember the winter of '92-93, where I had a 5-foot-deep base in the front yard on New Year's Day '93. I had to tunnel down to the street.
JT, I remember that winter, I was a youngen and I had a tunnel to the street too! Winter just wasn't the same after that.
Sorry, I've been tryin to catch up - I'm buyin a condo. And my 8 GOT BUSTED INTO THE NIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING!! It ruined my whole weekend cuz my kick-ass insurance agent was on vacation til today so I drove around ghetto busted for almost a week! I hate thugs!
I hate to say it, but eng, bountiful only helped you cause you are of the fairer sex, I had my warranty flat out denied by Bountiful. Their service writer is a lazy asshat. WHERE THE HELL DID JETHRO GO?
My 8 started running rough on idle like a week ago. Performance was still the same except the car would be a little grumpy when put into gear (only on idle). So I took it to the dealership and they worked on it for an entire day. When I went to check on it, they said everything is fixed and handed me one of those cheap aftermarket products that goes inside the air intake which I had put in like 6 months ago. The service manager said it was the cause of the problem eventhough I had a feelings that can't be it. So I tested the car and found that the problem is still there. Talked to the service manager again(really nice guy) and he said he'll take another look at it and offered me a free rental car as well. So after two days at the dealership, the manager calls me and lets me know that the engine has to be replaced (same transmission though) and that it will be under the warranty however, will charge 3.7 hrs of labor ($400) for taking out the aftermarket product which they thaught was the cause but proved not to be. Unwilligly i agreed to pay the labor just cause they are putting a new engine in. However, I'm still not happy with getting charged 3.7 hrs for taking that piece off which wasn't the cause of the problem plus they didn't charge me anything for that when they first thought they had fixed the problem by taking it off. I'm not a tech guy by any means, so would like to get your input on this. Should I fight for the labor fee or just let it pass by since I'm getting a new engine put in for free?
21,000 miles on the old engine.
2005 AT transmision
I say fuck that. I would bring up the point that they already removed the part and you weren't charge for that then. I don't think it's right that they go back on their word. They can't charge you for removing something that is not there. But you did already agree to pay and they will try and hold that against you, but don't back down and be very calm and respectful, and if all else fails cry like a baby.:tear: J/K. but don't go yelling and screaming.:cussing: it rarely works.
BTW what did you put in your intake?
rx8snowboard 12-04-2008, 08:41 PM Hey, does anyone know what utah law is on headlight color and wattage? Or park lights for that matter, I heard that anything blue is illegal because its inpersonating a cop or some shit???
oh it's just a metal cone like thing that supposedly creates a vortex and gives a better air flow, but I didn't see any improvement after having that in. I should have taken that off before getting to the dealership. The thing is, it had been there for so long I didn't even remember it was there. I'm sure I can reverse the charges if I cry about it..lol. Thanx for the advice Bose

Yes, no blue or red lights, supposedly anything else is okay. Just depends on the cop I suppose. As for wattage I'm not sure if there is a law on that, just look at all the lifted ford's that blast your eyes at night. Was that you I saw around 1130ish on 7th E. and 106 S.

Yeah, as much as I hate the thought, maybe. Well that and the fact that I know my shit, don't let them walk all over me, and kiss a little ass. But if that is why, i guess it's better than getting treated like shit for being a chick - which is what usually happens at other mechanics shops. But there is some stuff that they still won't help me with; like my RUST.
And thanks, she's fixed now :) Central glass waved half of my deductible even for side only glass! :)

What about all the new bmw's and mercedes that have that blue tint to their lights? I don't know why I worry about being legal:scared: lol, especially with all those stupid lifted ford's on the road  That could have been me on 7th and 106th but I didn't see you so its possible it was someone else because I always am looking for other 8's on the road :dubs:
The blue tint is cause they are 6000 Kelvins or higher. On the Kelvin scale, which is a scientific measurement of heat. The lower temps i.e. 1000 K is almost red, 3000 K is yellow, 5000 K is almost pure white. 6000 K is where is starts to turn blue, at about 12000 K it starts to turn purple and around 20000 K they are a purple-ish pink. Technically the 8000 K and up is illegal, but rarely will it ever get enforced.
rx8snowboard 12-09-2008, 07:14 PM Thanks bose :)
Here's an update - so Legacy Mazda said that the vibration is caused by carbon build up in the engine and that the engine needs to be replaced. Plus they said they'll have to charge for the aftermarket air intake modd because supposedly it caused carbon build up. As Bose suggested I tried the crying to wave the charges method (half hearted effort) which went south...lol. So finally the engine was replaced and they called me into pick up the car and asked me to pay for taking out the modd $400. I was prepared to pay the fee if the new engine had fixed the problem but alas! the problem is still there and seemed to be worse.
The lead service guy had no idea what the problem was after having the car for a full week. I told them I will not take the car back untill they fixed it properly and left the car with them and told the guy that I need to talk to the service manager (who already had left for the day) tomorrow to reverse the charges because clearly the new engine didn't fix the problem which proved carbon build in the engine was not the cause. After I left, the lead service guy calls me back and says that he'll inspect the car himself and there's no need to talk to the service manager. I said fine and gave him another chance.
So tomorrow comes - Service guy calls me back and says that he thinks he found the problem and it has something to do with the rotor in the front wheel, which has nothing to do with the engine or modd. I'm waiting to hear some good news from them and finally get the 8 back.
This whole thing cracks me up because even the dealership doesn't seem to know much about the car. You would think they would be a little more sure about the cause of the oroblem before they decide to replace an engine over a wheel rotor, apparently not.
The really funny part is that they are still adament about charging me for the modd removal. This time I will fight back. No crying just straight talk. But first got to wait and see if the new wheel rotor fixes it....
Even more interesting - as I was writing this post, service guy calls in and says Legacy Mazda is out of business..I repeat it is going out of business..wow. I feel so sorry for all who got laid off. As for customer in the Orem/Provo area, they'll have to goto SLC nw. Man this sucks
So the cry like a baby didn't work huh? Guess there is no hope.
I agree you should fight them especially when their 'fix' didn't do crap. Is the problem while driving or idle or both? A rotor wouldn't do anything to a non-moving vehicle. I'm assuming that both? They sound utterly clueless, Good move on not taking the car back though, whether or not they are going under is irrelevant cause Mazda is still in business so they still have to repair your car regardless.
Good luck Boo!

I saw your car in the shop. I blew my engine last Monday and is in Legacy right now, I should have it back today or tomorrow. That sucks that they are closing and we'll have to go all the way to SLC for service, UGH. I was dealing with John and everything has been pretty pleasant so far. Mine is the Silver '05 with the tint. I have heard dozens of different break-in methods for the new engine, what are you recommending?
I am by no means an expert is breaking in new engines. But I hear to break them in as you intend to use it. If you drive fast and like to rev a lot break it in like that. And change your oil at 500 miles again at 1500mi. and finally at 3000 mi. and every 3000 after that. Manufacturers recommend the pussyfoot break in for warranty/longevity purposes. So choose your method of break in according to your driving habit. But don't take my word as bond. Do some more research.

Thanks Bose, I have done a LOT of it, your input is greatly appreciated. I cant wait to get back in my 8, it's been a week and I'm having withdraws!
rx8snowboard 12-11-2008, 11:59 PM Wow, two people just got new engine's! bad luck but at least you have a fresh start on the engine :) I agree with bose on the break in of the new engine except the part about high rev's... If you drive like me then you should drive at higher rev's but with a new engine you probably shouldn't take it to the limit (redline 9000) until you break it in, I am no expert on break in's either but I say don't take it past 7000rpm until you are out of the "new" period.. just my suggestion . . . . .
Got it back and didn't pay shit....wooo hooo. Yeah whatever they fixed in the wheel did stop the vibration in the cockpit. The car feels and runs much better. As for the break in method, I'm not going with pussyfoot method of the manufacture....lol, specially since it's winter. Thanks for ur advise Bose
RX8Snowboard - In my case I didn't need a new engine but those idiots couldn't figure out the problem so they started replacing things, the first happened to be the engine..lol. I'm not complaining at all though.
Diggathadj - did they fix urs yet? or is it still in process? Btw how did you blow the engine? how many miles were in it?
Man provo/Orem is getting infested with 8s now. For the past couple of day I've seen about 10 or so
I retract my statement about redlining the brand new one. Rx8snowboard is right, I would keep it under 7000 rpm until after the 1st oil change at least. Lets any debris scrape off and fall back to the sump so you can drain it out.

Man, that rocks. John told me your was getting replaced. It sure looked like it, they had your car torn apart last week! I am glad to hear you got out at no cost.
Diggathadj - did they fix urs yet? or is it still in process? Btw how did you blow the engine? how many miles were in it?
No should be getting it back today, thankfully, I am itching to have it back. Well I had my oil changed about 1500 miles before the engine mishap and there was no oil in the engine so I am guessing a blown apex seal. I have 52K on mine.
Man provo/Orem is getting infested with 8s now. For the past couple of day I've seen about 10 or so
I know, I work in Orem and just moved from Provo, I see 8's all day long BTW Yours looks nice!
I strongly dislike the weather forecast for the next week.

Me either. This is my first Utah winter in my 8, how is the 8 in the snow? I have the GT so I do have the traction control but i still wonder.
Get some snow tires. They are a must, I had some all seasons on last winter and got stuck a handful of times. The snow tires make a world of difference from what I've read. or you could just get a set of chains.:Eyecrazy:
I know, I work in Orem and just moved from Provo, I see 8's all day long BTW Yours looks nice!
Thanks diggathadj. I dnt remember seing urs in the garage though. it must have been on the other side
This is gonna be my first winter in the 8 as well and I'm not looking forward to it at all. Does anyone knw how much the chains cost? if they re cheaper than snow tires I might as well go with them. Either way I'm gonna drive like a snail through the winter for all I knw
diggathadj 12-12-2008, 07:22 PM Thanks diggathadj. I dnt remember seing urs in the garage though. it must have been on the other side
Yeah, mine was outside awaiting my engine from Mazda. I got my 8 back today, no going over 7K RPM's for 600 miles :banghead: They left my 8 outside for 3 days, I gave them my car when it was clean, I received it filthy as hell, my only complaint so far. The car is driving nicely, 60 miles on the new wankel!
rx8snowboard 12-12-2008, 11:42 PM Snow tires are a must people! Your stock tires will get you as far as a mustang here in utah during the winter  and chains can only be put on during bad conditions (plus you can only go like 30mph with them on:icon_no2: ) I slid all over with the first sight of snow last season but once I got my snow tires on I was doing better than most suv's on the road:Eyecrazy: . Problem is the tire place I went to said only one snow tire fit my stock rims and it cost me 1200 dollars for a set of four :banghead: . But in reality we all know that the rx8 has low torque at low rpm's so as long as you shift early:uhh: then you should be fine. damn snow forcast  why can't it just snow in the mountains:eyetwitch .
kobe24mvp 12-13-2008, 02:49 PM yeah snow tires are a life saver, ive had them on the past two winters on my rx8 and ive never gotten stuck.. i love the dunlops.
boo - ive seen your car a couple times driving around, but yeah youre right there are a lot of rx8s in provo orem area now. when i got mine i saw maybe one or 2 a week down here
Enigmah 12-15-2008, 05:35 PM Hey who lives on 4500 S? I saw a Grey one parked in a driveway around 1300 E or so... I just bought a condo right by there so we'll be neighbors in a couple weeks...
Sorry to hear about all the car problems guys...bummer. But yeah for free brand new engines at least!
Did you go ridin yet bose? I get my snow tires tomorrow :) and drove up to a friends house in the avenues last night...wow. I slid through every stop sign, the hill wasn't even that steep but I was fishtailing all over the place on my way up! Good thing I know how to drive!
Man I am so glad I got snow tires last night.
No Eng, I haven't had the chance yet and I'm waiting for the snow to get a bit deeper. I like it fluffy.
04rx8gr 12-16-2008, 11:26 AM Well Guys. . Last night I went to the store to get new Jack because I broke my old one to change to my snow tires. . . While i was gone i forgot to put my garage door down and well when i got back my brand new snow tires and rims . . . GONE!!!! So well Im Screwwed . . The cops wouldnt even come out at all and that not covered under insurance since they werent on the car . . :banghead: So I had to drive the car to work today and well I may be getting a bus pass because the 2 hour commute just aint worth it.

Thought that I could get away without snow tires (how hard could it be if the streets are pllowed)...BIG MISTAKE...lol. On my way to work got stuck and had to tow to Big'O Tires. They're putting tires on today $1000 before taxes. No one had tires on stock so they have to ship from SLC. Hopefully this will save me frm getting stuck again
That is the shittiest fucking story I have heard. I fucking hate theivin' ass son's a bitches. Sorry to hear, were they your stock rims or a different set?
I will see how well they work tonight. I didn't get them on the car until today.
04rx8gr 12-16-2008, 06:26 PM Yea. . they were stock . . . I bought them off a guy :( . . .ughh So pissed now And now im extreamely poor and cant even drive my car when it snows :(
kobe24mvp 12-16-2008, 08:20 PM that sucks man, sorry to hear that. today was pretty slick out there luckily i had some blizzaks on my mazda. now just waiting for some to come for my bmw. should get here tomorrow though. i cant believe there are people out there that do that. seriously jacked up
rx8snowboard 12-16-2008, 09:14 PM Hey eng, I have seen the same silver rx8 in the front yard at about 13th and 45th.. doesn't sound like he or she is on the forum yet :( I am on 45th but im down on 7th west now so I am in kind of the same area :)
diggathadj 12-17-2008, 12:10 AM Yeah I drive home from 1600 in Orem to AF 5 days a week. I left work last night at about midnight and it was my first snow experience in my 8. It did better than I thought, I had to drive slow as hell but hey, better than a wrecked 8! On another note, I hit 100 miles on my new engine. I cant wait to hit that 600 mile mark, I am gonna drive that thing like a mad man again, well maybe not in Orem, i already got a reckless driving ticket there in my 8, Thats a LONG story, I hate that you can get a ticket without the cops seeing you do anything. Just a jealous asshole.
How's everyone liking the crazy wind today?
I just installed some new lights. Got new parking lights (freaking 9 led's) and new license plate light, and new side corner markers in super bright white. They all look amazing. I'll post pics this weekend. Got them all from rx8 strakes.
rx8snowboard 12-19-2008, 08:03 PM I don't like wind :( I just got my led park lights and headlights from rx8strakes.com were they easy to install?
04rx8gr 12-24-2008, 10:31 AM Im going down to my home town and garaging the 8 and bringing my old caddy deville up :)
Nice, pimpin the caddie. Better than sliding around in the 8. Where's your home town?
rx8snowboard 12-28-2008, 04:53 PM new park and driving lights are in and look great :) the new lights seem to be a clearer light but not as bright as my stock headlights.. I might have to switch to HID's if they are not bright enough :( stupid thing is I bought the ones that are 45 watts more than the stock ones . . . .
raleighRX8 12-29-2008, 09:51 AM What's up! I am new to this forum, Ilive in midvale, just thought I would say hey
amoamare 12-29-2008, 11:24 AM Im new here as well, I live in the utah county area just got me a new 2005 RX8 Silver with 30,000 miles on it. I had owned a 2001 SH EBP Prelude Before this.. I must admit that i love the rx8 :D Thought i would say hi.
04rx8gr 12-29-2008, 12:30 PM I used to live in Richfield Ut :) But im cruizing the caddy :) I noticed this weekend I had condensation on my dipstick . . . But looks like its more then just condensation. . . its pretty milky but not mixing in with the oil. . . Anyone have any ideas.

Good to see some new members. Welcome to the club. I'm Mike I live in Sandy. If you ever have any questions or need help with anything let me know if I can help.
I used to live in Richfield Ut :) But im cruizing the caddy :) I noticed this weekend I had condensation on my dipstick . . . But looks like its more then just condensation. . . its pretty milky but not mixing in with the oil. . . Anyone have any ideas.
Is this on your 8? If it is then don't worry about it. Happens to every rotary engine and some VW engines as well from what I've seen. It's happens in cold weather, it's just the water in the gas and oil not being completely vaporized in the combustion chamber. Because our block is so small it doesn't retain the heat long enough to that and the condensation accumulates in the dipstick where it gets coldest, fastest. You can go to Mazda and they will either give you the insulation for the dipstick or maybe the breather system (PVC) but you will probably have to pay. I just deal with it and make sure it has oil, and do more frequent oil changes in the winter. That's what I know.
RotaryManiax 12-29-2008, 07:21 PM I used to live in Richfield Ut :) But im cruizing the caddy :) I noticed this weekend I had condensation on my dipstick . . . But looks like its more then just condensation. . . its pretty milky but not mixing in with the oil. . . Anyone have any ideas.
Don't worry, that's normal with our cars. Tends to happen with cold weather. Do a search on it and you can find more info on why.
04rx8gr 12-30-2008, 02:51 PM well and thats just it. . . i drove over 300-400 miles thinking that would warm it up and it would be gone. . . Nope was still there. :(
raleighRX8 12-30-2008, 03:23 PM Is this condensation is your fuel tank?/ I have never seen this in mine!
I have driven mine for 5 hours strait in an attempt to rid it. But it just stayed. So after driving my car for the whole winter and not having a problem I decided Mazda was just blowing smoke up my ass and it isn't an issue.
The condensation is on the dipstick. But DO NOT WORRY it's normal. At least for rotaries. There is tons of info on this site about it if you want to know more but it's not hurting anything.
raleighRX8 12-30-2008, 06:14 PM Good to know, I will have to check mine.
raleighRX8 12-30-2008, 10:44 PM Are there any local RX8 club?/ If not maybe we could start one up?:)
04rx8gr 12-31-2008, 10:19 AM Alright, Ill just watch it :) Ive been raised around pistions. So well . . . In a normal engine the head gasket would be shot haha. . . So thats why i get all worried :) But yea we have a few meets here and there :) its good times!
Yeah my first winter with the RX8 I was freaking out cause of it but no problems so I'm not worried about it.
We do have a 'club' of sorts. We had a few meets last year, this next year I want to organize more stuff so just stay on the forum and you'll know. And if you want to organize something just post it here and the word will get around.
what do you mean shonebob?
rx8snowboard 12-31-2008, 01:32 PM Welcome to the club newcomers :) Brilliant Black 04 sport rx8 here with blue interior and exterior lights, tint, and yes I drive my 8 year round because I havent got the money to get a subaru for the winter lol. If you see me around I WILL wave or dim my lights :) I live around the 45th and state area so if you see me WAVE BACK :).
Condensation is normal on the dipstick I agree..
And if you are wondering about the club meets just take a look at the pictures a couple pages back, good times lol.
Question - Have you guys ever had ur windscreens frosted from the inside on cold nights (I'm not talking about fog or mist)? I wonder if there's a leak in the vent system or perhaps the rubber beadings on the doors.
raleighRX8 12-31-2008, 07:24 PM Sweet, I will look forward to going to a meet and meeting everone!/ Saw a white 8 in Murray on State by Sams Club/ Is that anyone's?
DariusDemon 01-01-2009, 03:46 AM Hey fellas. Good to have some new 8 enthusiasts! Hey, amoamare I had a 97' Prelude SH before my 05' 8 too! I admit I miss the v-tec sometimes and the 29-33mpg I got in my lude was nice but I love my Rx-8 too and cant imagine life without it!
p.s. I've got creamy stuff all over my dipstick too... that didnt sound good:icon_no2:
raleighRX8 01-01-2009, 10:38 PM Does any run F.I. or nitrous that you know of in our area?
Frost on the inside was probably condensation from your breath before you got out, and it froze on the inside. Just a guess. But it could also be the door seals, do you hear any road noise, wind or anything like that while driving?
No 8's around that I am aware of run any kind of FI. Talk to me around august.
rx8snowboard 01-02-2009, 01:11 PM Just talked to a guy at the dealer who said he just put a turbo in a friends 8 and it didn't go too well, I guess it didn't work with the computer (I know thats not what its called but I forgot what it is).
So the dealer is trying to see if they can fix my car under landcar powertrain warrenty that I have, the second gear is grinding again :(. The problem that we are having is that they want to know if it is happening under "normal driving conditions" which in my opinion is stupid because its a sports car, anyway I was just curios if anyone has had this problem or has any advise for me if the dealer cant get it fixed under warrenty i.e. aftermarket parts or mechanics that I can get?
The turbo won't run worth a shit if you don't get a tuning system, they need a e-manage, interceptor x, or the peanut of doom the Cobb Accessport.
The stock computer can't even comprehend what's needed for turbo. No matter what it needs to be tuned by someone who has a clue what's going on and a dealer is certainly not familiar with it.
As far as your transmission, mine grinds in second above 7000 rpm sometimes as well but the dealer may not be able to replicate the problem because in order to so they will need to break the law at least on city streets maybe they could on the highway but I don't know if they test that extensively so I would take the service tech and possibly the service writer for a drive and replicate it for them. As for aftermarket parts I don't know of any really. Mazsport for a while had a bell housing made for and rx7 tranny so it would meet up to the renesis, but they are out of business now. Don't know of any shops that are reputable around, I will ask around though and let you know. Sorry to hear about the trans problems again.
raleighRX8 01-02-2009, 02:28 PM The Greddy turbo kit comes with e-manage/ maybe they put in a built up system and mot a turbo kit?
Tim Tim Tim 01-03-2009, 04:21 PM hey guys, I know this isnt the most active forum but I just moved to the sandy area from tampa, fl .Id love to have some sort of meet or something to get to know some other owners.
Unfortunatly its my only car right now (me and wife are sharing untill we can afford to get her a small suv) . I did purchase a set of snow tires and wheels though, I really cant complain about the snow driving so far.
Anyways, the car is an 04 AUTOMATIC (shoot me now). Bought it in tampa as the wifes car and of course, now it gets handed down to me so im driving a girl car, owell still handles nice :). No real mods though, just black stock wheels (for summer tires). and a sub in the back
Tim Tim Tim 01-04-2009, 07:17 PM so what area of utah are you guys in? im in sandy, just moved here 2 weeks ago
raleighRX8 01-04-2009, 07:51 PM Hey, I am in midvale/ where u move from?
raleighRX8 01-05-2009, 01:02 AM Mine is an 04 at aswell/ MIne was a simple choice, go auto or go home!/ It is my only car aswell, but I have company vehicle to drive:) Anyway I was hoping to get a meet together when it warms up a bit:banghead: I think alot guys look but don't post on aregular basis. I am here everday! Can you say Dork!
Tim Tim Tim 01-05-2009, 02:19 PM just moved from tampa. up on the corner of 114s and 13e .
we were just in midvale last night actually
Tim Tim Tim 01-05-2009, 02:20 PM im the same way lol. If not every day, every other. There is another forum I frequent more often but its got a very small mazda base, its just a racing forum from tampa.
im down for a meet in the summer.
one thing I was bummed about here, I wanted to lower the car when I got here, after driving i dont thikn thats going to happen lol
raleighRX8 01-05-2009, 05:42 PM I guess that depends on how sandy city clears the snow on your street!/ I am going to lower mine soon and hopefully get a turbo! I have saved up about 1/2 of what I need for it.:)
rx8snowboard 01-05-2009, 07:21 PM I used to live in sandy so you might see me there like once a week :).
yeah bose, I took the mechanic out on a drive with me and they are trying to approve the work before they start tearing my tranny apart again. I heard tanner transmissions is good but I don't have a reliable source. I think he said he would be replacing the gears this time (last time they replaced my sincro's). Let me know if you hear of any good places please.
Tim Tim Tim 01-05-2009, 07:55 PM wow that sucks..
i am assuming your 8 is the one in your avatar. mines black as well, right now with some generic rims and snow tires, in the summer black factory rims... and a florida plate lol
Tim Tim Tim 01-05-2009, 07:57 PM I also have a few questions, mostly regarding inspections and emissions
Do they check your tint? if so whats the legal limit here?
What else do they check? the car is stock right now but I would just like to know for future reference if i decide to do anything.
how often do you have to do it and how much does it cost?
Tim Tim Tim 01-05-2009, 07:58 PM its not the snow, its the crazy roads. The dips, I guess for when the snow melts???
raleighRX8 01-05-2009, 10:24 PM Yes tint is checked/ limits are front 50% aand rears 30%/ sucks/ safety and emissions generally costs around $50 for both
Tim Tim Tim 01-06-2009, 01:12 AM damn 50. can you even tell its tinted??? any way to get around it? can i pay someone a few bucks lol.. I have limo all around now
rx8snowboard 01-06-2009, 01:23 AM I have a tint on mine but I think mine is in limits, and yes my car is my avatar :) some places that look run down don't check tint and such but it really is just a guess as to who will let it pass or not.. florida plates is good :).
rx8snowboard 01-06-2009, 01:33 AM Check out my new signature guys lol
kobe24mvp 01-06-2009, 03:27 AM i live down in provo, but my parents live in sandy so im always back and forth. what brought you to utah from tampa? you drive your car here?
Shawna_ 01-06-2009, 10:07 AM Winter just all around SUX for the RX-8... I havent taken mine out for over a week. I can't imagine lowering it at all, I cringe anytime I bottom out.( which is often) I've already cracked my front spoiler. This car drives me to an insanity I have never known with door dings and people who park to close and open their doors into it and slamming the doors and OMG!!!!! I think I may sell it and relives the anxiety I experience over it :) NAHHHH probly not. But I am very interested in knowing just how fast they really can go? anyone know? I too would be interested in a summer ride.....
P.S
anyone know of any paintless dent removers that do a good job?
Yeah the roads are shitty right now but they will fix them as soon as weather clears, I will be lowering my 8 in a few weeks so I will let you know. But my 8 is fantastic in the snow with my snow tires, haven't been stuck once at all.
I know my 8 can get up to 148 mph on a good long stretch. As far as acceleration goes it's not super fast but with the right turbo it can beat STI's and EVO's.
I can get you a number for paintless dent removal later today or tomorrow.
Just go to a Jiffy Lube and have them do it. The guys there were too busy oogling my car to care about my illegal mods. The one I like is on 90th and Redwood (1700 w.) I know everyone there. But my inspection and taxes and all that was like 150. And you do it once a year. They check emissons, look for cracked windows. Make sure all your lights work and are the proper color, amber. (Mine are clear with white lights) Just basic crap.
snowboard good they went with you, I hope Mazda does the right thing. GOOD LUCK.
And you noticed the massive power increase with the new snow tires too. Damn I thought I was just lucky:lol:
Tim Tim Tim 01-06-2009, 01:55 PM utah made my rx8 slower:( its already a slow automatic but damn, coming here probably dropped it atleast 20 or so hp. Big noticable difference.
My wifes family lives here and I was just sick of florida so we rented a truck and car trailer, loaded are stuff and here we are. We should be both starting our jobs this week and starting to save up for another car (sold mine down in tampa before coming, wife drove rx8) then finding a house or something to rent.
one more emission question - the guy who had my car before me blacked out the side markers on the front, are those something you have to have or what?
Tim Tim Tim 01-06-2009, 01:57 PM do you guys happen to know what the auto tops out at?
And have any of you ran on the salt flats? I saw they have a 130 mph club, that would be pretty fun to attend :)
Now don't quote me on this but the auto I believe tops out at 130ish. There are a few top speed threads around here.
The altitude will do that to cars. You went from about sea level up to almost 5000 feet. Damned thin mountain air.
As for your corner markers, you do need them but as long as the light shines amber they should be fine. But like I said mine are clear and the light is white and I still passed.
raleighRX8 01-06-2009, 04:09 PM There is alot of conflict about this/ some say there is a governor at 125/ other say the 04-05 don't have the governor/ I haven't tried YET!!
rx8snowboard 01-06-2009, 06:02 PM still waiting to hear what mazda is going to do :( another day another dollar...
Exactly, some with AT's have exceeded the 125 so I'm really not sure.
lazy bastagize. I am a very impatient man I would be climbing walls.
Tim Tim Tim 01-06-2009, 06:25 PM well hopefully mine will. Ill find out in september or whenver they open up the salt flats :)
Tim Tim Tim 01-06-2009, 06:29 PM yeah, my gps said we were 50 feet above sea level at my house in tampa, now were like 5200 or something .
there fully blacked, like he spray painted the stupid things. I hate it but cant afford another set yet.. that blows
I have an extra set of the ambers you can have if you want.
Tim Tim Tim 01-06-2009, 07:56 PM yeah that would be awesome. I can probably cough up something for them if you want just not hte 70 or so that there going for on ebay lol
Eh, don't worry about it, like I said you can have them. All I want in return is for you to come to meets this year, but that goes for everyone. I want to have some really great meets this year.
Tim Tim Tim 01-07-2009, 11:37 AM your not alone. Im suprised I havent seen more 8's here.. with the crazy roads up the mountains my lord, I cant wait for summer to play haha
Seems a lot of people garage their 8's when the white stuff starts flying. Summer I see a lot more of them but it seems a great number of them don't know about the club.
Tim Tim Tim 01-07-2009, 12:29 PM oo that sucks, guess ill have to start refering haha. I Dont blame them, I feel bad every time i drive it in the snow. Doesnt help that its black so it shows EVERYTHING. I go through so many of the touch free car washes its not even funny
Yeah my silver hides it pretty well but I know it's there, so I'm constantly washing it.
Tim Tim Tim 01-07-2009, 01:05 PM I like the silvers, pretty nice in my opinion.
btw, we need a bigger pic of that avatar haha
The silver holds up pretty well, just wish it wasn't cursed. :lol2:
Tim Tim Tim 01-07-2009, 05:21 PM lol, what kinda issues have you had?
I got hit by some 16 year old a couple months ago, that's the curse. Every silver is supposedly 'cursed' because oddly they have the highest number of totaled cars. And is the only 8 known to have been run over by a tank.
rx8snowboard 01-07-2009, 07:14 PM you got ran over by a tank! lol. Thats too bad about the silver's, on the other hand its probably a good trade of just to have a cool rotary car :)
Jethro Tull 01-07-2009, 11:57 PM Seems a lot of people garage their 8's when the white stuff starts flying.
8 more weeks brother, 8 more weeks. The waiting is brutal. :eyetwitch
Tim Tim Tim 01-08-2009, 12:19 AM 8 weeks of what, I have a feeling its going to be cold a litlte longer then that lol.
Jethro Tull 01-08-2009, 01:02 AM 8 weeks of what, I have a feeling its going to be cold a litlte longer then that lol.
March can go either way, it's true, but one must have hope.
It's not the cold; it's the road salt and sand they dump all over the roads here. My 8 has yet to come in contact with the damnable stuff since the day she rolled off the truck from the long trip from Hiroshima. I ruined my RX-7 driving it in winter. I won't repeat that experience.
By the end of February, all the various municipalities salt budgets will be exhausted and the roads will detoxify again.
Then I can drive my 8 once more and everything will be right with the world. :)
JT, good to hear from you again. I bet your just about climbing the walls, still starting her and revving her up every few days? How's the remodeling going?
I didn't get run over by a tank but a Sunlight Silver 8 in like Virginia or somewhere like that did.
I hope March is the start of spring, I want to put my summer wheels back on damn it.
Tim Tim Tim 01-08-2009, 12:38 PM yeah id like my summer wheels as well! not to mention i get new tires when they go on :)
I hate letting the salt get to the car but unfortunatly its my only car, so i go through those touch free washes all the time that do the under carage blast.. its all I can really do though
Yep, this summer it's my goal to find a winter beater that's reliable, and I don't give a shit about.
Tim Tim Tim 01-08-2009, 04:37 PM yeah, id love to but i need to find another car just for us to have, 2 people working and living with 1 car is rough. Id live a 4x4 suv for her to drive, then get like an old civic or something i dont care about for the winter
rx8snowboard 01-08-2009, 11:02 PM civic, bad... :(
Check out my new badges.

Did them with the help of a friend, both front and back.
Tim Tim Tim 01-09-2009, 11:54 AM yeah civic is bad, but good on gas and I dont care if it gets all rusted out lol.
that emblem reminds me of the batman one for some reason lol

With that car, you can get a few girls and start a "small business".
I always thought that a set of golf clubs and a fifth of Seagrams (in the sack, of course) were most at home in the trunk of a Caddy...also lots more room to stash bodies...
DOMINION 01-10-2009, 06:03 AM Hi all! I might be going to Salt lick city on the 22 & 23 of this month. Anything going on? any meets? :)
DOMINION 01-10-2009, 06:06 AM MOST of the AT's will max out at 155-160 ask me how I know ;) (owns a MT now) but you dont need to go 500mph i mean its had to find a GOOD flat road that will support speeds in the 100+ mph range yet alone tires.

raleighRX8 01-10-2009, 10:31 AM Are you kidding? It is freezing cold here! the high today is going to be 38* IT SUCKS
I'm down for a meet in the cold, I don't care. Who's down to have a little get together? Meet up with a fellow 8 owner from a nicer climate. If no one is down for a meet Dom, I'll at least grab a beer with ya or something.
Tim Tim Tim 01-10-2009, 12:24 PM id be down.. maybe in like 2 weeks, havent got paid in over a month in a half lol
even though the high is "only" 38 it really doenst feel bad out. This is coming from someone who great up in florida and has spent about 3 weeks in cold climate too haha. the temp gets lower here but it feels alot colder down south with the humidity in the air. Dont get me wrong, you cant imitate 15 degrees, but the mid and high 30's dont bother me at all

Busy on the 22nd, the 23rd is a possibility, but I'll be driving either the Explorer or the Forester. The 8 is still hibernating, waiting for spring.
Both Vegas and SLC have a 215 because we both have I-15. It's just a secondary "belt" route.
I take 215 to work; drive by that hotel.
DOMINION 01-10-2009, 07:14 PM ^I ride the same freeway to work.
Tim Tim Tim, where can we get a beer in UT? sorry man had to :smoker:
AJ's Shinka 01-10-2009, 07:17 PM Gil's invading Utah, man they bring up a good point, it was hard to drive in the ice and snow in vegas. This trip may not be a good idea.
Port'o'call is a good sports bar, and the Bayou has like 100 something beers on tap. Both in downtown SLC pretty close proximity to eachother.
