Wow, that has got to be one of the biggest PITA ever.
Sadly I fail, I just got told my brother needs help moving this weekend so I might be able to do a Sunday meet but not 100%. I will let y'all know.
Jethro Tull 07-20-2008, 09:59 PM I hate trying to move with only havin an RX8 and a 350Z
Jeez dude, rent a U-haul! Or were you going to rope the sofa to the roof of the Z?
Enigmah 07-21-2008, 12:11 AM Hey, have you guys had the July thing yet? I am new to SLC and have never met another owner, well one up in O.G. Den but he was a total mid-life crisis-er and none to friendy. I've got a stock black '04 GT, nuthin fancy, plenty o miles and constant rain /sprinkler spots.
Enigmah 07-21-2008, 12:20 AM Ok, here's the thread I was lookin 4. I'm up in Ogden the weekend of the 26th, how bout fri the 1st? I am a baby to the scene...
Jethro Tull 07-21-2008, 01:13 AM Welcome, En!
The weekend of the 1st is a possibility for me.
I'm nearly 50 though...but I swear I'm friendly even though I'm the "grandpa" of the local group.
If you live in Sugarhouse, you're close to Darius.
I've got an '07 Sunlight Silver, Touring, bought BN in March of '07, 6,300 miles.
Enigmah 07-21-2008, 01:49 AM Yeah, I could tell by the name ;) hope I didn't offend.
I've had mine fer 2 years but been busy, never joined a club cuz I hate 2 show off.
Jethro Tull 07-21-2008, 11:23 AM ^^Never offended. Always glad to meet another 8 owner, no matter how young and inexperienced. ;)
glad you found us dude, Well either weekend works for me so let's get somthing set, I don't know if we have enough people that know they can come this weekend so the weekend of the first should be enough time to set somthing up solid.
Good to have you, no matter your expirence level your more than welcome. If you have any questions post them here or pm us.
pfloydss 07-21-2008, 09:34 PM Hey guys I have been thinking of racing at the salt flats in September. Here is the web page
http://www.saltflats.com/index.html
I am going to get into the 130 MPH club this year if all goes well. Next year I want to get a cage and a few other requirements and go for the 150 club. I know the 130 will be a breeze but the 150 I am not sure if our car can break through, I think our top speed is 149 but I will give her hell trying.

153 is as fast as I have heard of but it becomes airborne at that speed. Need additional front end down force to do it safely. At speeds upto 150 the car is stable (a little light, but stable) but somewhere from 150 to 153 the front end is not in constant contact with the ground.
I got mine up to 147 in 6th gear at 6400 rpm so I still had room but I backed off cause I felt it get a bit squirrelly. So shouldn't be a problem with some downforce adders.
Jethro Tull 07-22-2008, 12:06 PM I've only had mine up to 115. But at 115, the car is rock-solid as you well know.
(Edit: I actually would have gone faster, but had the wife in the car at the time. Top-end attempts need to be done solo.)

Maximum torque is delivered at 5000 rpm on a stock engine... I wonder if you had a tail wind that day.
Pretty fast, bose, you win! :)

Bose got that out of a stock engine? Whoo that is moving in a stocker. Hell I've got quite a few bucks invested and don't get that much more out of mine (I don't wish to fly without wings).

Floyd, you can hit 130 on I-80 on the way there.
My trick is to wait for someone to blow-by you doing 90+. When he's about 3 or 4 miles ahead of you with no other cars in-between, and doesn't light up his brake lights, you know you've got no HP between you and him, and that's the signal to hit it. Once you close to within about half a mile, it's time to bring it back down.
Yeah at the time I had only had it for a month, don't know how I got it to that speed but I did. Mind you no one was around and the only danger was to myself.
Enigmah 07-22-2008, 05:49 PM Oh yeah, no need to scare the passengers; it makes the friends think yr crazy :eyetwitch
Our top torque is actually at 8500 RPM, wow I know! For typical engines it's around 5,000.
yeah put a little front weight or down draft on that baby and go for it! I've been around 120, like tull said, rock solid!
Jethro Tull 07-22-2008, 06:23 PM I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle.
Not screaming in terror, like the passengers in his car.
Jethro Tull 07-22-2008, 06:28 PM Our top torque is actually at 8500 RPM, wow I know! For typical engines it's around 5,000.
I think you are confused, En. Top horsepower for the Rennie is at 8500 rpm, top torque is 5500 rpm.
Check it out:
http://www.mazda.com/mazdaspirit/rotary/about/
Enigmah 07-23-2008, 01:01 AM oh, retarded. Yeah I totally meant to type 5500; no way you can have max torque just before the suggested "redline". But our torque comes later than cylinder engines. Sorry, wasn't tryin to put misinformation out there. But either way, with all the engineers designing this beast and how tight the config's & tolerances are, I'd be surprised if we could gain much HP or Tq by modifications & tweaks. ..but I have been wrong b4 ;)
Yeah it's a very well designed machine indeed. They only REAL power adders are FI, cramming more air and fuel into it is the only way to get big gains. Other wise the bolt ons we can buy only really change the sound and perhaps a h.p. or two.
04rx8gr 07-23-2008, 11:42 AM Im finally all moved and settled down ( yup we did end up renting a U-haul) but regardless all settled. Give me a time and a place and me and mel will meet up!
04rx8gr 07-23-2008, 05:50 PM Hey guys, If anyone wants to enter in this . . .even if your not all modded out you still can . . we just need more guys I can get you 15 bucks of entree fee so you only have to pay ten if you wanna go let me know!!!

What I'm reading is that by changing some programming (AccessPort), varying things like timing, fuel metering, combined with better breathing, you can approach a 20-25 hp gain, at the cost of other things like mileage, and risking detonation. You're right, FI (turbo) is really the way to get significant gains. And even there, you're going to blow seals sooner or later unless you are very, very careful. It's a finicky engine, and the engineers have worked hard to get it where it is without a lot of sacrifices.
If/when I ever start to seriously mod this motor (post-warranty), I think it will be wise to have 2 engines. Be working on one while running the other, so you're never down more than a week or so when you blow one up.
Enigmah 07-25-2008, 01:45 AM Hey are any of you guys goin to sevenstock? Vagas guys are cool with us caravaning down there with them...
JT about those eyelids I'll just wait until you have yours done, my paint guy is extremely busy so I'll just wait until your's are done as well.
I wish I could go to sevenstock this year but there is no way in hell I can get the time off, unless business goes down the shitter and I have no more work, but I don't think that will happen, doing so much record breaking right now we probably won't even slow down during the winter.:icon_no2: too much work.:banghead:
Enigmah 07-25-2008, 06:30 PM Hey, I saw a silver one parked down from Broadway Centre Theater today. Was it any of you guys?
Sorry to hear it Bose, I need a roadie. That's good though that business is booming especially with our economy so bad right??
Jethro Tull 07-25-2008, 06:53 PM JT about those eyelids I'll just wait until you have yours done, my paint guy is extremely busy so I'll just wait until your's are done as well.
No sweat. My guy is just delayed matching the color. I'm going to paint them myself as soon as he gets me a good match. Hopefully next week. :)
Sounds great C, I'm stoked!
Wasn't my 8. But yeah we're doing good cause two of our competitors have gone out of business and we hired their best guys, so now we have all their customers too.:lol2:
Hey everybody, I see that a new Utah thread is opened, the old one got deleted, and I have no idea why. Just wanted to introduce myself. I've got a '04 VR sport/appearance package. I've had it for about 2 years. Before that, I owned a Titanium Gray (AT) that my wife and I bought brand new in 04. After I found the 6-speed VR for sale, we had 2 RX-8s for about 6 months until the lease was up and my wife wanted a CX-7 (more practical, or something ;))
Here they are:
http://www.nickchaves.com/photos/VelocityRed_1600.jpg
http://www.nickchaves.com/photos/DSC_1101.JPG
Both have had engine replacements, and the gray one was in the shop 4 times from various accidents.
I'm getting the red one back from the shop today -- a girl in my parking lot at work forgot the parking brake and her car rolled into mine. Sad thing was that I'd parked away from other cars to avoid door dings!
I'm usually down in Utah county though I am often in south salt lake as well. Hope to see some of you guys around.
Jethro Tull 07-28-2008, 02:51 PM Welcome back, Nick!
The Utah sticky is still there, but it does look like some other Mountain threads have disappeared in the last day or two. Only admins, mods, and the thread starter can delete entire threads, AFAIK...
I've got an '07 Sunlight Silver, bought BN in March of '07, currently with 6,400 miles on it. It's just a weekend car, I don't commute in it or drive it in winter.
My wife's Subaru will be paid-off this winter and she's thinking about either an 8 of her own, or more likely, a Miata. We only have one kid and she's nearly all grown-up, so no mini-vans for us.
Nice to meet ya, Nick...all my car info is below in my sig. Hope we can get a meet going, maybe in the next little while so we can all meet, just hard to coordinate everyone's schedule's. Hope to see you around.
Jethro Tull 07-29-2008, 11:55 AM Hey, Nick, that VR would look good with a pair of eyelids...hint-hint...
04rx8gr 07-29-2008, 12:14 PM Any one interested?
Jethro Tull 07-29-2008, 01:14 PM Remind me again just exactly what "Car Wars" is...and where.
rx8snowboard 07-29-2008, 02:14 PM Hey guys, just got my car back from the dealer:icon_no2: I had some grinding going into 2nd 3rd and 4th so they replaced my syncros under my extended warrenty and I paid to have them replace the rest of them while they had the tranny apart. funny thing happened though, while they were doing this somone broke into the shop (at the dealership) and took a couple catalitic converters (one of them being mine:rant: ) so they replaced it free of charge:lol: . So if any of you are having problems with a part just take it to the dealer and have somone steal it while its in the shop:uhh: ha ha ha.. Really though, I have heard that cats are becoming quite the high comodity and people are stealing them while you go into the grocery store:icon_no2: anybody else hear about this?
I would be but I only have stock system so I'd just get laughed out of the place. I don't really listen to music in my car usually get listen to the car talk. I'll probably check it out though.
I have heard of CATS being stolen recently, it's because they are made of two high priced materials. Platinum and Rhodium don't know how much they are worth can't find the figures and don't feel like looking it up. At least they were honest and didn't say it was plugged and it needs to be replaced so they could charge you for it and get money from the insurance co. too.
Jethro Tull 07-29-2008, 04:11 PM Catalytic converters have been stolen from trucks twice here at work, from the employee parking lot in broad daylight.
An RX-8 wouldn't be a thief's first choice due to very little ground clearance. They prefer SUV's and pickups because they can get under them without having to lift them first. But if it's in a shop, they've got all the tools they need right there. I suspect it was an inside job.
Just today a co-worker told me that his gas tank was disconnected and drained, right in his driveway.
I'm going to get one of those infra-red driveway alarms. I park my old Explorer in the driveway. Our Subaru and my 8 stay in the garage at night.
Anyone else going to Steve Miller Band tonight?
04rx8gr 07-30-2008, 12:41 PM http://www.carconceptsonline.com/carwars/

Jethro Tull 07-30-2008, 02:21 PM Anyone else going to Steve Miller Band tonight?
Hey bose, now THAT'S an avatar! :icon_droo
Isn't Joe Cocker playing there too?
I remember a Steve Miller concert in the '70's, I think it was at the Salt Palace when it still had the arena...we found a huge bag of weed in the men's room!
CDUBYAZ 07-30-2008, 02:56 PM Dude carwars would be sick! I'm gonna try and make it out there for sure!
CDUBYAZ 07-30-2008, 03:01 PM Hey i wanna see ur guys's rides, everyone should upload a pic of there whip!!!! I see a shit load around but have no clue if any of them are your dudes. It would be nice to know. What you think?

I've got brown hair and a mostly white goatee, if you can spot who's driving. :)
Thank you JT, I don't know who it is, just a nice picture I found. And you are correct sir Joe Cocker is the opener.
Yeah, I'll probably check out the carwars but I'm not entering, I don't even have bose stereo system in my ride. Kinda funny huh?

Nothing to distinguishing about my car except the rims, and a rally sport direct sticker on the upper passenger windshield.
The only distinguishing features on my car are Mazdaspeed exhaust:

and an "RX-8" third brake light (shown on old car but installed on both):

and these wheels during the winter :)

Jethro Tull 07-30-2008, 09:16 PM Nick, do you have tint on the rear windows of the VR?
Jethro Tull 07-30-2008, 09:17 PM I keep seeing a yellow '04 going south on I-215 at about 8:45 every morning.
And a red one with a girl with short hair going north on Redwood road in North Salt Lake at about 4:30.
Anybody?
Enigmah 07-30-2008, 11:36 PM Agh no! I think I'm missing Joe Cocker!! Where is he playing??
I might check out car wars too, if I'm around. How much does it cost? I only have the stock system too but it is almost always good enough for me. I'll wait til I blow it, then pimp it out.
Yeah, about the avatar, they're great but... I don't wanna post tits unless I know em!! :)
Enigmah 07-30-2008, 11:58 PM Some day you guys!! :aroused:
http://www.rx8club.com/vbgarage.php?do=thumb&type=im&width=100&id=4207
Only thing that makes mine distinguishable is all the door dings, but there's no point fixen em til I don't have to park in that cramped parking garage anymore.
http://www.rx8club.com/vbgarage.php?do=thumb&type=im&width=100&id=4208
I've got curly brown hair, and I'll be sad if you don't wave. :bootyshak
Gr8White 07-31-2008, 12:04 AM I've seen the yellow one as well. It was female driving it in Layton though. I've only seen one other person driving the car the "right way" in town around Hill AFB though. I really want to get out of my car and tell these people to stop shifting before 3k RPM, but that's their business. I'll post my car pic, sooner or later.
Nick, do live in Draper, I think I saw you a few weeks ago by the discount tire in draper when I was getting my wheels.
And the pics of tits I do know CAN'T be posted here, besides that I don't care whose they are I love boobies. And I know I sound like a 16 year old but I'm 23 and just love'em.
rx8snowboard 07-31-2008, 01:50 PM Im to lazy to downsize my pics to put them on here but if you look at my profile or my avatar its my car.. only distinguishing thing about mine is tinted windows, clear corners and I usually drive really fast :)
Jethro Tull 07-31-2008, 06:31 PM Bose, I'm 49 and I still just love 'em! And the pair I'm married to would kill me if I posted them anywhere, lol.
Had my oil changed today and filled the gas tank. HOLY SH*T! I usually fill at half a tank but let it get way down this time.
I had to enlarge the hole on my pre-mix bottle since I was putting in almost 5 ounces this time. Did you open up the hole on yours, bose?
At the dealer there was a lady about my age in blue RX-8 complaining about something, Washington plates. She had a cute daughter about the right age for most of you guys.
Good to hear it never changes JT. And I had to enlarge it, I'm too impaitent to stand there for 5 minutes to put in JUST the premix so yeah cut off the very tip and good to go.
Yeah, the VR is tinted dark on the rear and half or something on the fronts. It was on when I got it so I don't know exactly.
Bose, I don't live in Draper but my parents do, so I'm up that way a fair bit. I grew up in Sandy/Draper (Alta HS).
Enigmah 07-31-2008, 11:37 PM Im to lazy to downsize my pics to put them on here but if you look at my profile or my avatar its my car.. only distinguishing thing about mine is tinted windows, clear corners and I usually drive really fast :)
You can just upload them, this web site will downsize them for you, to meet their size limit, mine were huge.
What pre-mix do you guys use?
Enigmah 07-31-2008, 11:41 PM Bose, I'm 49 and I still just love 'em! And the pair I'm married to would kill me if I posted them anywhere, lol.

:lol2: who doesn't love em!
she was probably just passin through :squint:
I love the blue! I tried to get one but it sold the day before I got mine :tear:
So are you guys meetin up this weekend, besides at car wars?
Jethro Tull 08-01-2008, 02:32 AM What pre-mix do you guys use?
I use Idemitsu. 1/4 ounce per gallon most of the time (~4 ounces per tank), but when it's really hot (like now) I use it at 1/2 ounce per gallon (~8 ounces per tank).
Jethro Tull 08-01-2008, 02:36 AM So are you guys meetin up this weekend, besides at car wars?
We have to go to a wedding reception on Saturday, I think that's all we've got planned.
Sunday canyon run maybe?
I'm down for a meet anytime, some of you have my number, just hit me up.
Jethro Tull 08-04-2008, 02:37 PM Well, I didn't get the 8 out over the weekend, so I decided to drive it to work today for a change. Gave the old Explorer a rest.
Can't wait for the cruise home, even more than usual! :)
Good to hear your streching the ol' girls legs. Any word on the paint matching of the eyelids?
Jethro Tull 08-04-2008, 04:32 PM Good to hear your streching the ol' girls legs. Any word on the paint matching of the eyelids?
He says maybe Wednesday or Thursday. If he gets me a match by Thursday, I'll paint the first coat on Friday. I'm thinking it will probably take at least three coats, wet-sanded between coats, then a final clear topcoat...so that process alone will take several days.
The anticipation is killing me...:eyetwitch
The anticipation is killing me...:eyetwitch
You and me both... cool, ya know you just can't rush perfection.
Enigmah 08-05-2008, 01:49 AM RX 8 sightings!!
A while ago I saw a 2008 black rx8 around town with custom plates, this weekend there was a red one with chrome rims in the back of Sears parking lot at Newgate mall in Ogden, and tonight a saw a silver baby with tags on still on 7th E and 2nd.
Zoom muther f***ing Zoom!!
I saw someone in a Galaxy Grey 8 on 123rd South and drove alongside them from bangerter to 13th West. Anyone on here?
Enigmah 08-05-2008, 09:21 PM OK, can someone please tell me what the deal is with other RX8 owners who seem to absolutely HATE anyone else who owns the same car as them??? Is there another thread I should rant about this in because I was driving down 7th E today next to another black chromed out RX8, and he wouldn't even look at me!! I tried to be cool but he didn't even give me the chance
And another thing, if you're stopped at a light on a really steep hill (especially behind a sports car thats probably a manual, not to mention really expensive to repair) WHY IN GOD'S NAME WOULD YOU CREEP UP ON THEIR BUMPER??? :banghead: I swear I almost rolled right over the top of this lady's hood before I took off, TWICE, and I reved it high first too, just to try to help her out.:flamed:
Enigmah 08-05-2008, 09:30 PM ok I'm done.
HEY HOW WAS CAR WARS??!! I couldn't make it but I wanna see pix and hear about it...:Drooling_
Jethro Tull 08-05-2008, 10:42 PM En, I've ranted about snobby 8 owners over on the Darkside before. It happens, unfortunately.
At first I thought it was just somebody who had no idea what their own car looked like from the outside, and thought I was hitting on them (ha!), but it's happened so often that now I'm sure it's just assholes who, unfortunately, bought an 8.
Rest assured that I will ALWAYS acknowledge any other RX-8 driver who successfully tries to get my attention, and enthusiastically return every gesture of goodwill. :)
I will also return any gesture of contempt... :boid:
I hate rude 8 drivers, I also had a black one diss me a couple weeks ago. I drove up 106 from state to 13th e. he pulled up next to me all quick so I looked and waved and him and his buddy just looked at me blankly then laughed to eachother so I smashed the gas and took off, I kinda felt stupid but not much I can do about it.
If you see me and I see you, trust me you will know I'll be hangin' halfway out the car waving.
Jethro Tull 08-06-2008, 03:48 PM Bose, my paint guy says he'll have a match for me tomorrow, so as soon as he does, I start painting! I'm hoping to be able to get them to you by Saturday or Sunday if all goes well. Stay tuned!
:jump: :celebrate :bluesuit: I'll be on my seats edge!
04rx8gr 08-06-2008, 07:25 PM Car wars was alright even tho i left hella early due to how blasted hot it was :( I was the only 8 there :( But its all good had a hell of a show that night :) U92 summerjam
Enigmah 08-06-2008, 10:28 PM Alright! I feel the LUV! I didn't know how to react to other owners when I first got mine either, especially chicks, but we gotta ban together!! Especially with a car so AWESOME!!!:yelrotflm :yelrotflm
04rx8gr, I am so sad now that I didn't show up to represent! next time, we bring the show!
rx8snowboard 08-07-2008, 03:43 PM I wave or flash my park lights to any 8 I see but I'm afraid most of them don't notice :( looks like we have to just stick to the ones on this forum cause the rest don't seem to be enthusiastic about their beautiful car, so sad :( I saw a white 8 this morning in sugarhouse area, in a parking lot with the front driver side wheel off and on a jack.. anybody? I was looking at it and I said to myself "if I could choose a different color for my 8 it would probably be white :)"
Jethro Tull 08-07-2008, 05:44 PM I have a thing for silver cars...my first car was silver, bought back in '77. But my second choice would have been white.
I watched dealer inventories on-line when I was ready to buy, and as soon as I saw a silver show-up with most of the options I wanted, I bought it.
Bose gets his eyelids tomorrow! I painted both his and my sets today. We both have the same color car.
Sunlight Silver FTMFW!!!! Jethro is the man you guys need to jump on this once in a lifetime opportunity, this eyelid is no longer made by anyone except him so yeah!!!!
[edit:]I just got the eyelids from JT, man they are so perfect I can't wait until work is over and I can put them on. But I'm going to make you wait a few days for pics until some of my other goodies arrive and they get installed. Nothing outrageous just a few aesthetic mods.

Can I see a pic of them on? I've never been a big fan of eyelids, but depending on how good they look, I could be convinced... :)
Jethro Tull 08-09-2008, 10:57 PM Nick, I've never installed them on my own car because I test-fit every pair I send out on my own RX-8. Hopefully that will change soon. I may try and get some photos soon with them stuck down temporarily.
BTW, I am now set-up to repair curb-rashed stock rims. The silver painted ones, not the polished metal. PM me if interested.
Alright guys I got the eyelids on and they look beautiful I tell ya. I'll post some pics in a couple of days, when all my other stuff comes in.

Yer killin me, man!
Just so you know I got the parts this morning, I must say rx8strakes is a good company. I ordered this stuff Friday around 1 in the afternoon. they arrived this morning with the mail. +1000 for rx8strakes.com
So pics tomorrow possibly later tonight!
Jethro Tull 08-11-2008, 10:03 PM Put on another pot of coffee. Bose is going to be up late!
04rx8gr 08-13-2008, 11:59 AM Drove along side a Galaxy gray 8 Just like mine cept had gray rims on it. . . . On bangeter from 70 s to about 54th s.
I was thinkin about doin a meet this weekend . . . but just this group no interracial group experiences now :) If there is a big turn out we could go cruize :)
Jethro Tull 08-13-2008, 12:38 PM I was thinkin about doin a meet this weekend . . . but just this group no interracial group experiences now:)
You DO mean "just RX-8's", right? Of course you do. :squint:
OK guys, I win. I drove to Salem and back last night and got 27 miles per gallon! I'm absolutely sure of it. Filled-up before I left, zeroed the trip odometer, filled back up when I got back. Both times right to the top of the filler tube after premix was added. 91 octane.
I just got my oil changed but that's the only thing I can think of. Maybe the dealership gave me the lates flash upgrade but I didn't notice it on the invoice.
I'm hoping it's repeatable, and not just an anomoly. I was thinking it was high as I got home and was still on the first quarter tank of gas, 110 miles later...but was blown-away when I calculated it. 110.8 miles/4.1 gallons = 27 mpg! And I wasn't using cruise control because the traffic was too heavy on I-15. I was lane changing a lot and doing the zoom-zoom thing. Probably over 80% of the whole trip was highway miles at 75mph. Some was on country roads doing 30-50mph.
Jethro Tull 08-13-2008, 12:38 PM Bose, where are those eyelid photos?
Well, I haven't finished everything I will tonight and take pictures. I had my camera phone and took one photo. Enjoy.

Jethro Tull 08-13-2008, 01:21 PM ^^Thanks, Mike, looking really good!
It just amazes me that a pair of eyelids can totally change the whole attitude of the front end. Too cool. :)
I'm researching some new tape that someone on the dark side recommended. More permanent, supposedly, than the VHB. Stay tuned.
cool, thanks man. I agree they just transform the look, makes it look mean!:squint:
Let me know about the tape for sure, sounds good.
Jethro Tull 08-15-2008, 05:34 PM My daughter's high-school soccer team is having a fundraiser car-wash tomorrow from 9 am until 1 pm, at the Les Schwab Tire Center on the corner of Bangerter Highway and 35th south in West Valley.
Bring your car by, make a donation and get your wheels shined-up. And I know most of you wouldn't pass up the chance to have high-school girls wash your car for a few bucks!
The best way to pull into the lot is from eastbound 35th south. It's that funky "continuous flow" intersection so go to 40th west and then come east on 35th south.
See you there!
Jethro Tull 08-16-2008, 02:15 PM I'm told that the coach had some family issues today, so the car wash has been postponed.
good thing, I had my 5 year high school reunion then, I wouldn't have made it, now I can.
Let get a meet going this weekend, who's free?
Jethro, I have a friend whose stock rim (RX-8 too) got curb rashed on the spoke. Can you fix that too? If so, any idea on price? He was asking me for your info. Thanks in advance.
Jethro Tull 08-19-2008, 12:14 AM Jethro, I have a friend whose stock rim (RX-8 too) got curb rashed on the spoke. Can you fix that too? If so, any idea on price? He was asking me for your info. Thanks in advance.
I can fix any type of rash on a silver-painted stock rim, as long as it's not structurally compromised. If it's just cosmetic, no problem.
I'd have to look at it to give an accurate quote. Can he take a photo? Typical rash repairs can run anywhere from $25 for small stuff to $100 for a totally rashed rim. Usually people will shop for a clean used rim if a repair goes much over $100, but that's rare.
Jethro Tull 08-19-2008, 12:21 PM Over the weekend I saw several 8's. There was a gray 8 at F.Y.E. on Friday night, then a few minutes later, another silver was parked next to mine. There were two or three 20-ish guys inside who were checking out my car, and one of them actually returned my wave. Theirs didn't have the sunroof, might have been a sport model.
Saturday night I found myself behind another silver, and he turned into the bar on Redwood road across the street from the liquor store.
Been seeing a red one going both east and west on 4100 south quite a bit lately, driven by a guy. Also one driven by a younger Asian or Hispanic girl. 8's everywhere lately, after going a few weeks without seeing any but my own.
I keep seeing many more, there were two at a concert on Thursday last week on 36th and state a silver and a red one. Then another red one driven by a very hot looking blond, last night 'round 630 on 5th west and 90th south. With so many 8's on the road how come there aren't any meets.
RoXas585 08-19-2008, 07:08 PM Hey everyone! I am finally back. :) I havent posted or been on the board for quite some time. The reason being my 8 was dead and I didnt want to bother you guys with the troubles, but I finally got it back today!
So here is the story (for those who care to read)....
Some of you may remember my 8 dying alot after driving it for about 30 minutes and me being told by a local mechanic that it was my cat converter. With the help of bose, I replaced the old one with a high flow cat. Obviously, this was not the cause of my 8 dying. The same problems continued, so I took it to D Dahle Mazda. Their mechanic, Damon, was awesome. He was so willing to help and was very empathetic of my needs. After running several diagnostic tests, he told me that my engine was bunk and that I would need a new one, but that this wasn't a problem because of the new 100k warranty. He put in the request to Mazda corporate for the engine. This happened on the last week of June.
Sadly a couple days later Damon gave me the news that my car actually came from Puerto Rico (which was unknown to me) and that it didnt fall under the 100k warranty. I would have to pay for the new engine and complete tune up, a total of $5,700. :icon_no2: Obviously I couldnt afford that having just bought the car in March. Many a vain hour was spent talking to Mazda's corporate offices begging them to help me in any way possible. Damon also helped me research the history of the car. Come to find out, it was taken to D Dahle in Febuary and the previous owner was told that it would need a new engine, but again it wasnt under warranty. It seems he took it Chicos autos in Draper and pawned it off on them. They, not knowing anything about Rotary engines, thought it was fine and sold it to me. I, not knowing anything about Rotary engines, bought it after taking it for a couple of test drives thinking it was fine and being given a 30 warranty.
To make an already long story shorter, in an effort to avoid a lawsuit, Chicos agreed to pay for half of the total cost of the engine and tune up, and I, in an effort to avoid getting a used engine from them and having it installed by their no-nothing mechanic, agreed to having the work done at Legacy Mazda in Orem( I guess they have some business contract.)
So there you have it. I got my car back today. Dealing with D Dahle Mazda was great and they were always willing to help. Dealing with Chicos was a joke and they tried every way to get around what I rightfully deserved. Dealing with Legacy Mazda was painful. They were slow, unprofessional, and never gave right quotes on anything. This is why this whole event started on the last week of June and I just got my car today. I will never deal with them again and I would encourage others not to as well.
After driving it to work today everything seems to run well and I am very exctied to get back out and break in this new engine.
rx8snowboard 08-19-2008, 07:33 PM I just want to thank bose again for his help while I had some problems, thanks bro :) Hey jethro, you still doing the rim buffing thing? I might send you some pictures or we need to meet cause I want to see how much it would cost me to make them look clean, they are not bad and I actually think that the damage was there when I bought my 8 so not very noticable but I still want them looking better, thanks..
rx8snowboard 08-19-2008, 07:33 PM speaking of which, anybody meeting this week?
seriouscoin1 08-19-2008, 09:18 PM well sorry to hear about the problem with chickos! I was involved in a wreck last Thursday. I got the estimate today and it will be around $1800. Lucky the other guys INS. Is covering it. He had a lifted bronco and could not see me when attempting to switch lanes. I hope to be more involved in the future!
Jethro Tull 08-19-2008, 11:58 PM I Hey jethro, you still doing the rim buffing thing? I might send you some pictures or we need to meet cause I want to see how much it would cost me to make them look clean, they are not bad and I actually think that the damage was there when I bought my 8 so not very noticable but I still want them looking better, thanks..
I can make most any rash go away on the painted OEM rims ('04-'08), but there's only so much I can do for the polished alloy rims. PM me or post a photo and I'll let you know what I think I can do for you.
Jethro Tull 08-20-2008, 12:01 AM Hey everyone! I am finally back. :) I havent posted or been on the board for quite some time. The reason being my 8 was dead and I didnt want to bother you guys with the troubles, but I finally got it back today!
(snip!)
After driving it to work today everything seems to run well and I am very exctied to get back out and break in this new engine.
Well RoX, we're just glad you're back! Sorry you missed half the summer- the middle half- but there's still lot's of good driving weather left this year. Start pre-mixing on that BN engine.
I've actually been so busy that I only put like 300 miles on my car the whole month of July!
Jethro Tull 08-20-2008, 12:03 AM Then another red one driven by a very hot looking blond, last night 'round 630 on 5th west and 90th south.
Was she a platinum blonde, with short, page-boy hair? If she's the same one I've seen, she's totally hot. We need to get her to a meet and no doubt...:)
Indeed JT the very same. She's a looker for sure!:Eyecrazy:
I'm always here to help guys, any questions you have I will answer to my best ability, but I will never bullshit you if it's something I don't know.:icon_no2: I start school tonight for Auto Tech. I'm pretty stoked about it, so much to learn but oh so worth it.
04rx8gr 08-20-2008, 11:57 AM So I havent been on much just dealin with insurance. . . There goin to cut me a check ( dunno the amount yet) and I have a buddy thats painting my car. We are puttin a cf hood and Veilside body kit on it. . . . Its going to be alot better lookin here in the next few weeks . :spank: So Any meets this or next weekend?
Veilside is full fiberglass, with our road conditions in some parts of the valley you may want to consider a polyurethane kit which flexes as opposed to cracking.
I saw a grey 8 with the veilside kit on highland and 7200 S. and his was all fuq'd up, I felt sad for his car.
Jethro Tull 08-20-2008, 11:45 PM If any locals have trouble with fiberglass or CF after-market kits, let me know. I have 36 years experience in composites and can beef-up any part to eliminate the chance of cracking induced by flexure.
I've also got a spare stock OEM hood if someone ever wants to make me an offer. It's WreakLoosE's old hood.
That stock hood is incredibly light- only about 15 lbs.! I was amazed. Not too many aftermarket hoods are lighter than that.
rx8snowboard 08-21-2008, 01:09 PM I'm always here to help guys, any questions you have I will answer to my best ability, but I will never bullshit you if it's something I don't know.:icon_no2: I start school tonight for Auto Tech. I'm pretty stoked about it, so much to learn but oh so worth it.
What school are you going to for Auto Tech? me and my brother want to go soon :uhh: we will see, I want to go to UTI but I don't think he can afford it:eyetwitch
rx8snowboard 08-21-2008, 01:17 PM I can make most any rash go away on the painted OEM rims ('04-'08), but there's only so much I can do for the polished alloy rims. PM me or post a photo and I'll let you know what I think I can do for you.
ok, I will take some close up photo's and pm them to you as soon as I get the chance. Thanks.
I'm going to SLCC for now. I would love to go to UTI, they have a tuner specific course. But I have too much going on to move to another state right now. Maybe in the future. Right now I want to get my degree and get ASE cert.
DariusDemon 08-22-2008, 04:53 PM By the way i am still here. I just havent had anything interesting to add:(
Eh, I rarely have anything interesting to say but I still blab away  so feel free.
Enigmah 08-25-2008, 01:20 AM Hey, do you guys' sunroofs chatter as they slide back? Mine is SO loud. The dealer said nothings wrong and lubed it all up but it didn't even improve. It has grit in it, but it's a lubed track exposed to the air; even if I cleaned it out every day it would still have grit in it. It doesn't sound similar to any of the other sunroof issues I've read about, and I have searched all over this site and couldn't find exactly the right answer. So I think I'll just clean it out real good and maybe try a better lube, what do you guys suggest?
Also, LETS GO TO SEVENSTOCK!!
yeah, I see another RX8 like every day now, it's probably you bose. Silver, pullin into Golds in Sugarhouse a few nights ago and today EB on 2100 S...
Jethro Tull 08-25-2008, 11:25 AM I took my 8 to the zoo yesterday, twice, dropping my kid and her friends off and picking them up again later in the day. You may have seen me instead of bose. I was WB on 2100 south but it wasn't me pulling into the gym.
My sunroof never chatters. Solid as a rock in all positions and when in motion.
Jethro Tull 08-25-2008, 11:26 AM By the way i am still here. I just havent had anything interesting to add:(
At least you're still alive, you've been laying low this summer. What's going on?
I has no sunroof. So no problems here.
I don't go to the gym, and I live in Sandy so wasn't me. My car is a bit more distinctive now. I'll show you in a minute.
I want to go to seven stock, but I have work and school everyday and can't miss at all.

Two of my newest mods, did all red interior lights and some black chrome side strakes I need to take pictures of.
Jethro Tull 08-25-2008, 09:31 PM Pretty cool, does the rotary symbol work with the stock rotary accent in-place?
Yes, let's see the strakes. I've just about made up my mind to get a set but can't decide on exactly what finish to get.
Good work Mike! (was your trunk unlatched in the top photo?)
Sadly the stock rotary accent is not usable, so I have an extra rear if anyone wants it. But they do make a accent that will work but it's separate. and yes the trunk was unlatched, I still hadn't put in the driver side trunk liner. I'll get a pic of the strakes later today.
Anyone feeling up for a meet :ylsuper: this holiday weekend?:dunno:
BTW here is a quick pic of my strakes.

Jethro Tull 08-28-2008, 11:57 AM ^I'd be up for a meet somewhere for coffee or a beer, but probably wouldn't have time for a cruise. And, it looks like bad weather rolls-in on Sunday with rain and temps in the '60's forcast for Monday. Summer is over!
Love the strakes! How long did the install take? Keep an eye on them and let us know if there are any paint-abrasion issues where they overlap the sheet-metal. I think I'll be ordering a set next payday for sure. Where did you get yours?
No worries on the paint abrasion, they give you some 3m tape to put underneath it so you don't do such a thing. 10 minutes is all it took so freaking easy it's ridiculous. Got'em from RX8strakes.com. Ordered them Friday and got them the very next Monday.
RoXas585 08-29-2008, 07:38 PM I would love to go for a cruise or meet up on Monday. I have no plans at all.
Also, bose where did you get your new wheels? I really want to sell my 20" rims and get some smaller gunmetal ones like yours but I have no clue were to start. BTW those strakes are awesome! They look way good. :)
Any recommendations on what kind of tire I should get for winter or other winterization tips?
Thanks
Enigmah 09-01-2008, 05:11 PM Looks awesome bose! Yeah, it must've been Tull that I saw. I can meet later today...
Last year EVERYONE stopped offering the 18" studs!! So I had to get the Perelli "Ice" tires and thought I was getting jipped but they ROCK! Driving on them vs. all seasons (which I drove on the entire winter before) was like DAY AND NIGHT. The tread actually spreads open on the ice and grips it. It still can't come close to front wheel control but it's so much better than the alt.
Enigmah 09-01-2008, 05:16 PM And Bose, I can't miss work either. The guys from Vegas are leaving too early for me to catch (even if I drive really really fast :) ) so I might try to go out Fri. afternoon or eve. They say most the stuff is on Sat. anyway...
I'm sorry I got so slammed this weekend, I had no time to even wash my car :(
Thanks for the comments guys. Roxas I got them from Discount Tire, but I had them price match Mach III motorsports price. I suggest looking at wheeldude.com or just search the web for the lowest price and if the website with that price doesn't have the color you want discount can most likely get it and match the price.
And I looked into sevenstock and I can most likely go it's just do I wanna try and drive 10 hours after working and school for 18 hours.:Eyecrazy: cause if I left Saturday I would get there in enough time to enjoy it.
rx8snowboard 09-02-2008, 06:14 PM Hey guys, this friday is the last midnight drags at RMR so I am heading out there to race if anyone wants to come watch or race with me.. I have never actually done a drag so any tips that anybody has would be great, I just want to see what times I put on the board personally (and drive really fast without being illegal) :) I saw a silver one race last friday and if I remember right he pulled a 15.6 or something, was that anyone here? it looked and sounded stock so I know it wasn't you Bose :)
rx8snowboard 09-02-2008, 06:22 PM I would love to go for a cruise or meet up on Monday. I have no plans at all.

I got the Ice tires or whatever they are, the guy said they were the only snow tires that fit on my stock rims.. ($1,200 dollars for the set of 4) but I was driving just fine all winter and I have to drive up parly's canyon for work, I only slid around a little bit one day when they had the canyon closed for a couple hours because of the big storm but I still made it down just fine after they opened it back up.. not alot of torque in this car makes it pretty good in the snow with some decent tires, better than a mustang at least  :lol2:
RoXas585 09-02-2008, 10:53 PM Thanks for the info guys. I was driving home from work sunday night on I-15 when there was that decent sized rain storm. It was terrible. I was all over the place. If I went above 55 I started to hydroplane. :Eyecrazy: It made me fear what the winter possibilities are, but I'm hoping one I get some smaller rims and snow tires it will improve.
Jethro Tull 09-03-2008, 01:05 AM If you can put 200 or 300 lbs. in the trunk, that will help a lot with winter traction, on any tires. It won't help your mileage or handling any, but it will keep the tires stuck to the pavement more often.
I was driving down Parley's River (Canyon) during that storm. Literally you could see the water's current on the road, but I never once felt squirrelly or like I was hydroplaning. My tires are great in the wetness Falken FK452's are awesome summer tire.
Don't know what's good for winter but I personally am trying to find a beater car so I can park my 8. I'd rather risk smashing a older car than my pretty little baby, besides at $1300 for the set of tires I could pick up a beater and it would be cheaper or about the same. So if you know of any cars that don't need a whole engine or transmission for a grand or less let me know.:lol2:

There you go, just like old Jethro. Park that baby for 90 days or so and it makes you appreciate it so much more when you take it out again in March. And your 8 will thank you for keeping the sand and salt off of her as well. :)
Since my 8 is just a weekend car, I have an old '91 Explorer to commute in during the workweek year-round. It's a V-6 so it gets about the same mileage as the 8, but doesn't need premium gas. Cheap to insure and 4WD when I need it 3 or 4 times each winter when a snowstorm blows-in during rush hour.

Jethro Tull 09-08-2008, 02:27 PM That's a fine-looking automobile you have there 04, no matter what color it is! :)
Very nice, very clean:) What building is that, your the second person I've seen use it as a background?
I ordered a new shift boot today from shiftstyle.com black alcantra with red stitching. I'll post pics as soon as I get it.
04rx8gr 09-08-2008, 07:26 PM Its actually one is the Mountain america building behind jordan landing and the other is some other company by Cyprus credit union. . . . We need to get together and do a group photoshoot :) would be fun! Do a BBQ or something!:lol2:
Also i decided i hate it without the rear spoiler so its goin back on tonight :)
Enigmah 09-09-2008, 12:29 AM Looks good 04!! They should add that color for 2010!
Roxas, I think my Perelli set was only $850 for all four but might've gone up this year. And I put em on m stock rims and drove great in them. No steep hills or deep snow obviously but we're good enough drivers that we can get around just fine in these Utah winters. (and I did put a couple hundred pounds of salt in my trunk; as much as I could fit:lol: only had to use it twice)
ok this weekend would be PERFECT for a BBQ. I say Saturday. Where should we meet?
Enigmah 09-09-2008, 12:35 AM Oh I forgot to tell you guys, there's a new recall out that you gotta go get done!! It is awesome and only takes a minute. I was experiencing a loss of power sometimes in any gear at any temp and any rpm. It felt like it wasn't getting enough fuel or oil or something, and sounded a little rough. I knew it wasn't the injectors cuz I had them scrubbed at my last major checkup. So it is a programing issue that has to do with the oil pumps not putting enough in or something. My guru didn't even know the details of it yet but it seems to have worked. I'm FAST again!! :) :) :)
04rx8gr 09-09-2008, 11:23 AM Okay Saturday it is!
I would say like Liberty park due to the BBQs already there :)
:banghead: I'll be doing a turboswap on my friends WRX on Saturday, So I could do it just depends what time.
Jethro Tull 09-09-2008, 03:15 PM Okay Saturday it is!
I would say like Liberty park due to the BBQs already there :)
I think you have to reserve those. You may want to call the Salt Lake City Parks Department just to make sure. :dunno:
I know you have to reserve them in Sugarhouse park.
Jethro Tull 09-09-2008, 03:19 PM My new floormats are in! I'll go pick them up this afternoon.
I noticed last week that my stock mats were beginning to show some wear where my heels touch them on the driver's side, so I ordered a new set of stockers.
I also have the "all weather" rubber floormats but don't really like them. They are big and clunky (although they do a very good job at keeping water and crap off the carpet) and I don't drive my 8 in winter anyway.
RCCAZ 1 09-09-2008, 03:43 PM Everyone,
Spent last week up in North Ogden visiting my wife's family and saw a total of 2 RX-8s all week ;( and one was in the Peach Days parade. Is there just a shortage of Rotaries in Utah or is no one organized up there? I went to the Peach Days car show on Saturday (9/6) and with more than 900 cars in the show, not one rotary powered Mazda was there. The Utah Nissan club was there in force along with the VW club, but I was hoping to see some of you "locals" turn out to support the Rotary. Oh well... maybe next year. It was a fun week and a GREAT show. Check it out next year... I'm sure I'll be there!!
Jethro Tull 09-10-2008, 01:16 AM Hey RCCAZ, the local rotary club is pretty much all RX-7's, with only one or two marginal exceptions. There are six or eight of us 8 owners from this Website in the greater Salt Lake area (50 miles south of North Ogden), only one or two up there.
You tend to see them in bunches. Sometimes you don't see one for weeks at a time.
I dunno, but I think we need to meet for sure Saturday is looking healthy Sunday as well. What do you say, I'll call and set up a bbq if enough people will come I mean at least 4 or 5.
04rx8gr 09-11-2008, 11:48 AM Ill be there!
Me and 04, well I hope a few more want to come.
My buddie's Subaru club is going on a canyon run and pot luck dinner yo! at Murray Park on Sunday at 6. They invited us, they wanna make it a import car meet. Let me know if your in or no.
DariusDemon 09-12-2008, 12:23 AM sounds fun. I'm in for both as far as I know. I work until 2pm on sat. Not entirely sure what my schedule's like for sunday yet but count me in and if something changes between now and then ill let you know!
Well, I didnt reserve a spot cause there wasn't enought people to call for one. So I'm planning for the Sunday meet at murray park at 6. But it's changed to a bring your own grub cause a couple of girls (literally) are coming and they are vegan so it makes it kinda hard to bring stuff they can chow on.
Let me know, I'll be checking back.
Jethro Tull 09-13-2008, 12:51 AM Mike, I'm just up to my armpits this weekend and can't make it at all.
One of my crew broke his leg last weekend in an ATV accident and is out for 6 to 8 weeks, another is currently on vacation- so the rest of us are taking up the slack but falling short. It could be a while before I get some play time.
Party with the girls without me this time. :tear:
OOoohh. That's rough JT sorry to hear. Hope it's not too brutal.
Jethro Tull 09-13-2008, 02:04 AM Thanks man. I just hope I can get back on-schedule and have some drive time before the snow flies and I park this baby for 3 months or so!
I hear that. Winter is approaching and far to rapidly. I for one am just not excited this year like have been in past years though.
Jethro Tull 09-13-2008, 04:49 PM Are you still looking for a winter beater?
New shiftstyle boot. Pics as promised.

Jethro Tull 09-15-2008, 08:15 PM Cool! Looks like suede, yes?
And is that Vizene in the ashtray? :dunno:
Xiphoid 09-15-2008, 09:58 PM Hey gays this is Husain from Ogden, UT Originally from Kuwait I'm currently a student at Weber State. Never got the time to post on this thread, will be happy to attend RX-8 meets.
Jethro Tull 09-15-2008, 10:33 PM Welcome Husain! I've seen you around 8club for a year or so.
We're a loose bunch here, it's been tough to get everyone together this summer (and I garage my 8 in winter) but we're still hoping to meet before the weather turns cold.
Stay tuned to this thread for more info.
The Salt Lake Rotary club: SLCRotary.com
How's it going Husain, Good to meet you, I like the mod list you have, very similar to mine.:) . Keep posting and checking in, we should be getting some kind of meet together in a short while.
Enigmah 09-17-2008, 12:56 AM Yeah I lived in Ogden for 2 years with mine and only saw another on three or four occasions. Glad to have you Husain!! I'll be watchin for you when I'm up that way. I graduated from WSU 2 years ago :)
Bose! Looks good man. Sorry I didn't check more frequently! I totally coulda met up w/you guys last weekend! I was detailin on Sun and had the cops called on me TWICE for my music...AND I HAVE A STOCK SYSTEM!! And it was only up to like 15 or 20db! People are so anal * (that's the new universal symbol for anal "*")
So I found some RUST inside my gas lid!!!!! :( Lots of it, under the paint! Bountiful Mazda told me that Mazda won't accept responsibility even though there's only been one other owner, who leased it from them and had NO body work done the whole time he owned it (only 18k miles), they can't find proof that it was ever re-painted, AND I purchased an extended BUMPER TO BUMPER warranty which is still in effect! They are saying it's not covered cuz the full Factory warranty isn't in effect anymore, and the new warranty doesn't cover bodywork!!!!!! I am so pissed and don't know what to do because it's obviously manufacturer defect!
OK this saturday, 20th lets BBQ in the park. Liberty? I'll be there, invite the WRXers. Tully, I hope you can catch a break! The weekend after that is SEVENSTOCK!!! I am so excited!!!
04rx8gr 09-17-2008, 11:08 AM Im Volunteering this weekend guys :(
Thanks, the boot was only like 40 with shipping. Great deal. I will talk to my buddies WRX crew and see, but I am down for Saturday meet, I don't care if we BBQ or meet at like Hooters or Starbucks whatever, I just wanna get together and talk cars, 8's, life. whatever. We need to have a brotherhood going like the subaru clubs around.
Jethro Tull 09-17-2008, 02:21 PM Rain forcast for this weekend, both Saturday and Sunday. :banghead:
Jethro Tull 09-17-2008, 02:23 PM Im Volunteering this weekend guys :(
What kind of volunteer work do you do? Or are you saying you're joining the military this weekend?
DariusDemon 09-17-2008, 04:46 PM Yeah, I'm looking at the forecast and it does say "thunderstorms possible" for both sat and sun. hmmmmm
Jethro Tull 09-17-2008, 10:11 PM The latest weather update says only a 20% chance of precip. on the weekend, mosty just a cooling trend. Maybe that percentage will drop further in the next two days. Stay tuned...
Enigmah 09-17-2008, 11:48 PM Yeah Bose, you are so right! I think the pressure of all the prep of a BBQ might be holding us back, if it rains lets all go grab a drink or cup of coffee. We gotta start rollin in packs!! :) For all the shit our cars give us, we gotta stick together!
So I finally cleaned all the shit out of my sunroof track and loaded it up with white lithium and it will slide back great like 3 times real smooth, then start chattering again. :( maybe it still has some grit in the rollers or something. No one else seems to have this problem. Do any of you guys have over 50k on yours? I think the engine temp is finally starting to wear on my paint. It feels so ruff and I've tried everything short of rubbing compound cuz it scratches the paint all to hell.
Hey, maybe we could grab a drink or somethin this Friday...
Gr8White 09-17-2008, 11:48 PM Not sure if the wife will let me out this weekend for the meet, anniversary and all that jazz...BUT I will definitely try to go if we decide to meet up. PM me the time and location if we are. Thanks. Also, welcome Husain! I hope to see everyone at the meet. I've seen a lot of 8s in the Ogden area and I'd love to know if you guys are any of them.
Enigmah 09-17-2008, 11:54 PM Well happy anniversary!! We'll let you know when and hopefully both of you can pop your heads in.
Hey which one of you guys did I see on 3rd S and State this evening sitting at the light? I figure it was one of you in that sweet black 8 cuz he was cool-even smiled and he was with his girl...
Jethro Tull 09-18-2008, 01:59 AM I need to look at your sunroof, Enigmah. Maybe I can figure it out.
I can look at your paint, too. You have to use a polishing compound chaser with rubbing compound to take out scratches.
04rx8gr 09-18-2008, 05:11 PM I volenteer for the Great dane Rescue association. . . BTW i have 80 K on my car and sun roof works fine other than makes a vibration noise when blaring the tunes
rx8snowboard 09-18-2008, 09:31 PM I would be up for a meet, even if it rains :)
Me too. I am pretty sure the weather people don't have a clue. If you had looked at the forecast, we have been getting rain for two days strait, suppose to be raining right now.
RoXas585 09-19-2008, 01:07 PM I would totally be down for a meet this weekend. I dont have to work for once. :) Name the time and place and I'm there.
Enigmah 09-19-2008, 07:54 PM I volenteer for the Great dane Rescue association. . . BTW i have 80 K on my car and sun roof works fine other than makes a vibration noise when blaring the tunes
Thanks, good to know. I was actually wondering about the mileage cuz of the long term affects of the high running temp of the engine on the plastic parts and paint. Thanks, JT when we meet next you should look at it. I tried a de-oxidizing/scratch remover etc. compound on the paint, and liquid clay bar and it is still so rough to the touch. I don't think the recall has been done on my sunroof, but I don't think it needs to, I think it's totally different rattling than that. But you can all check out my troubled ride and offer an opinion. :)
So, this weekend...Saturday eve? Bose maybe we should get a pavilion at liberty - it'll be at least 4 of us. Invite the WRXers too. I say 6pm and if it rains we go to hooters or Sugarhouse BBQ is right there mmmmm ribs!
04rx8gr 09-20-2008, 12:29 PM Let me know ill be there. . .
Shit fellas, I can't tonight it's my lady's birthday, We're going to Miller Motorsports Park for the prototype and GT races, I'm pretty sure the Speedsource RX8 is going to be there but there will be rotory power on the track either way.
Can anyone meet tomorrow? Go somewhere we can watch a little football, grab a bite then cruise. Or something of that nature, not sure if anyone is down with sports or not.
Enigmah 09-20-2008, 06:01 PM yeah, I ended up making plans to go climbing and to some concerts tonight, have fun at the race though! I'm cool with a sports bar or somethin but have plans at 6pm tomorrow so for me it'd have to be afternoon sometime.
And nice avatar maytee!
Jethro Tull 09-20-2008, 07:17 PM I can't do anything this weekend or next. My first opportunity is Oct. 3, 4, 5.
DariusDemon 09-22-2008, 04:32 PM maybe we should plan for one of those days so everyone knows about it and can make it a priority nice and early!
I think an early meet on the 4th would be perfect, around 12 or 1. We should grab a bite somewhere and watch the Utes game, or something to that effect.
Klone 09-23-2008, 01:19 PM Do you guys mind if an ex RX-8 owner joins you when you decide to have the meet?
Jethro Tull 09-23-2008, 03:44 PM Do you guys mind if an ex RX-8 owner joins you when you decide to have the meet?
You're always welcome, Klone. Especially if you bring the Lotus! :)
Klone 09-23-2008, 04:00 PM Absolutely, it is pretty much my daily driver, can't get enough of it. Although, I do find myself missing the 8. I will check back and see if a time and place are decided.
No doubt about it man, our group is too small to be so selective.
RCCAZ 1 09-23-2008, 10:45 PM Anyone from Utah loading up and heading down to Sevenstock in Irvine, CA this weekend?
10 hours, 12 minutes... 687 miles or 34 gallons of gas in your RX-8. Anyone coming?
Jethro Tull 09-24-2008, 12:34 AM Anyone from Utah loading up and heading down to Sevenstock in Irvine, CA this weekend?
10 hours, 12 minutes... 687 miles or 34 gallons of gas in your RX-8. Anyone coming?
I wish I could, but my wife isn't into the car scene at all, and Saturday is her BIRTHDAY. The gods are against me! :banghead:
Enigmah 09-24-2008, 01:26 AM Klone, OF COURSE you're welcome with a garage like that! Bring some friends!
Unfortunately, I won't be able to come that weekend unless it's friday. I promised a friend we'd go out to the races at the Toole track. I think it's the national GP; I'll be in the pit or on the track:fingersx:

FINALLY!!! I have been trying to get someone from UT to go out for months!! I'm leavin early afternoon on Friday and stoppin for a bit in Vegas before cruzin through the wee hours of the mornin to roll up round 4 or 5am which is when cars start lining up!! That way I don't have to pay for a hotel. If you still need a room, talk to Dominion on the Vegas SS11 sticky. He's got a sweet employee deal on some rooms down the road (if he has any left). And Flip is looking for someone to cruise down with Friday evening from Vegas. I CAN'T WAIT!!:jump:
PM me if you wanna try to meet up and we'll talk details.
Man Tully, you just can't catch a break lately! :(
Jethro Tull 09-24-2008, 02:21 PM It's OK, En, if it wasn't for my wife, I wouldn't even have my 8. Great lady. :)
rx8snowboard 09-25-2008, 01:35 PM I agree with bose, we should meet on the 4th. I want to go to the game but I don't know if I can get the tickets yet but if I don't we could just chill at my house and watch the game and have some beers :) unless someone has HD and a big tv :)
Jethro Tull 09-25-2008, 05:19 PM Which one of you is "Wet Willie" over on the Dark Side?
I've got a Pentax K-1000 also. In fact I have 2 of them, had 'em for decades! I have so much invested in those cameras that it's hard to justify dropping it all to make the digital switch.
I wish I could find a DSLR that uses the Pentax/Riccoh bayonnet. :wallbash:
Klone 09-25-2008, 05:28 PM The fourth would work for me, I am pretty open to anything on the weekends, depending on the weather.
04rx8gr 09-25-2008, 07:31 PM lol I have a 60 In Samsung :) HDTV lol
Jethro Tull 09-25-2008, 08:18 PM So, it's you, 04? I liked your photos on The Dark Side.
I still don't have a digital TV. I only watch maybe five or six hours a month so I've been putting it off until I get the family room remodeled, then I want to hang a 50" on the wall. Hopefully this fall, if my work schedule lets up enough to let me work on the house.
You guys pick a date and venue and let me know. I can't make a whole afternoon of it but should be able to snag a couple of hours on the 4th or 5th.
DariusDemon 09-26-2008, 03:36 PM Im down with the 4th;)
Jethro Tull 09-27-2008, 04:10 PM 4th is looking OK for me scheudule-wise, but now the long-range weather forcast is saying Big Storm next weekend. It figures. Well, if it's too wet for a BBQ or cruise, we can grab some nachos and liquid refreshment at Chilis or someplace like that, eh?
Jethro Tull 09-28-2008, 06:04 PM A day later, and the long-range charts are looking better for the 4th...
Edit: What a difference a few hours makes. Now they are predicting thunderstorms by next weekend.
We'll see what happens once we get there. You know the saying about weather in Utah: If you don't like it, wait 15 minutes.
I had an unexpected couple of hours and went up Big Cottonwood canyon at 5:30 tonight. Beautiful drive- but too many other cars to have much fun on the road.
Phil's 8 10-01-2008, 07:45 AM :smiley309 HAPPY BIRTHDAY JETHRO :smiley309
:ylsuper: :40oz: Hope it's a great one man.
Phil's 8 10-01-2008, 12:08 PM Enigmah, nice meeting you at Seven Stock. You can join the Vegas crew anytime you wish.
Jethro Tull 10-01-2008, 04:43 PM Thanks for the birthday wishes, Phil and Mike! So far, so good!
RoXas585 10-02-2008, 04:22 AM ~~~Happy Belated Birthday Jethro!!!~~~
Hope it was an awesome one!
Sorry Im late with the greeting...:banghead:
Enigmah 10-03-2008, 01:52 AM Hey, happy birthday man! Hope you did it right!
Phil!! It was cool finally meeting some people from this site! Cesar from Cali TOTALLY hooked it up with the coffee when I rolled in round 6 am. Then the workers couldn't decide how to line up the cars so I had to cut in line to be by your gang. The folks from Vagas were real cool but they never called me back about drivin back to Vegas in the a.m. I just figured they slept in and bailed. I had to roll out pretty early to make it back here at a decent hour. The AZ crew were pretty nice to, that one lady won the tires! and a guy from BF Goodrich asked me if I wanted to drive the C car around next time they're out here. Well, I'll have to let you Vegas crew know next time i'm rollin through so we can meet up again! It might be a while cuz I'm low on scratch now... like Flips avatar says WTF
Jethro Tull 10-03-2008, 02:00 AM Thanks, Rox & En, had a great birthday. 50 is just like 20, except your whole body is stiff first thing in the morning. ;)
Wish I could have gone to SS, but it was on my wife's birthday and there's no way she'd go for that. Grumble, grumble...
well looks like rain tomorrow, I personally don't care my car needs a bath as it is. So is anyone still down to meet tomorrow around 1ish we can meet at murray park and then grab some grub somewhere near by. Chime in if your down.
04rx8gr 10-03-2008, 01:49 PM As always IM IN~ haha
Jethro Tull 10-03-2008, 04:41 PM Our new modular sofa was delivered today, and as I was looking it over, I found a small rip in the back of one of the recliner sections. They are bringing a replacement tomorrow (John Paras) sometime after 1:00, so I'm stuck at home until they show-up. For fifteen hundred bucks, they damn well better bring a replacement.
Post tomorrow's itinerary and if they are on-time, I'll catch up with you guys eventually.
Sorry about this, I was hoping that this sofa deal would be done-with today and I'd be free all day tomorrow.
JT we can move it back an hour or so if need be. Anyone else?
DariusDemon 10-04-2008, 05:20 PM do'h!
Good morning fellow 8er's. How is everyone?
Talkative today are we? Maybe tomorrow.
rx8snowboard 10-06-2008, 08:57 PM havent checked my computer much otherwise I would have met up with you guys.. happy birthday jethro :) as late as I am.. Hey bose, I am talking today :)
rx8snowboard 10-07-2008, 12:23 AM almost time to put on the snow tires :(
havent checked my computer much otherwise I would have met up with you guys.. happy birthday jethro :) as late as I am.. Hey bose, I am talking today :)
I'll check the weather but we should shoot for this weekend.:fingersx:
I would hope you talk everyday.:)
Warriors...come out to play!
Good morning peeps.
04rx8gr 10-07-2008, 11:08 AM Im going to be in Vegas this weekend, So no go for me. .
What's happening in Vegas this weekend? I wish I could go to SEMA this year. But I don't think it's gonna happen.
rx8snowboard 10-07-2008, 06:58 PM I was looking on the wii and it said that it should snow this weekend :( :) (snow is bad for the car but good for the board)
rx8snowboard 10-07-2008, 06:59 PM Saturday I am going to the bodyworld thing at two but friday night I could come out to play..
Enigmah 10-08-2008, 01:53 AM I'll be up in Ogden all weekend, I'll be lookin for ya Husain! A co-worker said he saw a red one up there with flames on it.
Oh Jethro, I think I coaxed my sunroof into behaving finally! I just had to give it a lot of love and affection...and white lithium. This car is such a woman! But I still gotta get you to look at my paint and rims if we ever can meet up. And SS will just get better as the years go, the RX8's are just starting to get really tricked out. But I'm glad you got your priorities straight ;)
Snow tires can wait at least 2 more months - until the snow is actually sticking...in the roads...for more than an hour.
I can't wait to go snowboarding too though!:wiggle: Let me know if any of you know someone who's tryin to sell a 153 or longer - I gotta get a powder board this year, and meet someone with an SUV to put it in :) It's gonna be a good season, I hope I can afford it!!
04, you should say what's up to the Vegas crew while you're there, they're pretty chill.
CDUBYAZ 10-08-2008, 12:00 PM Hey guys, quick question i am hoping someone can help me out with. DO you know of anywhere i can pick up replacement headlights and taillights? I need to put new ones on my car so i can pass the lights off for a fix it ticket i got haha stupid po po's.
Also i think i have to sell my beautiful 8 :(
Thanks guys.
Do you need to whole housing or just bulbs? If bulbs try checker, autozone. If you need the housings, I'd try ebay. But if they are the HID's your gonna be spending bookoo bucks, those things are pricey. I've seen them on ebay for as low as 230 per light but still $$$.
Jethro Tull 10-08-2008, 02:40 PM Guys I'm just slammed at work. I took 2 days off last week and now I'm paying for it!
I don't know when I'll be able to come out and play, no visibility for the next couple of weeks.
And as soon as they start putting salt on the roads, my 8 goes into the garage until spring. Not a happy time of year, but she's not going to ever be exposed to road salt. This will be the second winter I've kept her in the garage for the season.
I drove her to work today since it was such a nice day, and the weekend is supposed to be rain and SNOW!
I am not looking forward to driving in the shit. Still looking for a beater if anyone knows of anything. Shooting for an older Subaru Impreza 2.5rs 98-01, preferably a two door. I want to build it into a rally car, already have it planned out and most of the products lined up just need the car before I start buying the parts.
Jethro Tull 10-09-2008, 02:02 AM Mike the sooner you can get her off the road in winter, the longer she'll last.
I bought a BN '80 RX-7 in late '79 and it developed rust in hidden areas after only a couple of winters. It eventually ate through from the backside. And I washed that car weekly, religiously. Engine compartment, underside, as best as I could. Don't let anyone tell you that road salt won't hurt a car.
My beater ('91 Explorer) is also rusted-out on the bottom from road salt. I bought that one BN also and it took about six years for it to rust through from the backside of the sheet metal.
Jethro Tull 10-12-2008, 02:40 AM As I write this, the snow is falling outside.
Last year spoiled me. We didn't get our first snowstorm until December 1st. I was driving my 8 right up through the end of November. I don't think I'll be that lucky this winter.
We still have some good days ahead of us, before winter comes to stay for a few months, but this first snowfall is a sad time. Usually we don't see salt on the roads until December, when the snow doesn't melt off quickly after a fall. Cities and UDOT don't want to use up their salt budget too early.
But the writing is on the wall. Time to think about one more detailing and an end-of-season oil change before parking her on her little carpet out in the garage until sometime in March.
Good luck to all you brave souls who drive your 8 year-round. Remember that most other people forget how to drive on snow and have to re-learn each winter, so watch-out for those jerks who seemingly want to crash into your beautiful cars!
Jethro Tull 10-13-2008, 11:06 AM Looks like after today, the sun and dry weather return for a while. Woo-hoo!
I drove my 8 last Friday, but except for a trip to the gas station Saturday morning, she sat in the garage all weekend. I hate it when the storms fall on weekends. Two in a row.
I may have to drive it to work a couple of days this week. :)
Phil's 8 10-13-2008, 04:06 PM Snow??? What's that??
Jethro Tull 10-13-2008, 04:21 PM Snow??? What's that??
Phil, you sound just like my brother. He lives in Henderson.
Snow doesn't bother me. It's the damn salt and sand they dump all over the roads once the snow comes in earnest.
You DO know about sand, don't you? ;)
Phil's 8 10-13-2008, 04:34 PM Phil, you sound just like my brother. He lives in Henderson.
Snow doesn't bother me. It's the damn salt and sand they dump all over the roads once the snow comes in earnest.
You DO know about sand, don't you? ;)
Now sand and sand on the road I can talk about:) Salt on a road? - does that come from driving too close to the Great Salt Lake? They sure don't know what snow is in Henderson:icon_no2: and obviously your brother is smarter than you, he left the snow and the salt:)
Jethro Tull 10-13-2008, 05:46 PM ^If I could earn a living down there, I'd be there in a heartbeat. My brother works for a grocer; I'm in composites.
He left here to get away from his ex-wife, so maybe he is smarter than me!
They put rock-salt on the roads to melt the snow & ice. It works down to about 20 degrees, below that they use specialized snow-melting "super-salt" with additives. The bottom line is, it eats away cars. I have an old Explorer (and had an RX-7) to prove it. My 8 stays in the garage when the roads have that yuck on them.
Klone 10-14-2008, 12:47 PM Anyone going driving Saturday? Sunday looks like it might change with some dark clouds, anyway I will be running around if anyone is interested in putting something together.
Jethro Tull 10-14-2008, 01:15 PM I have an old friend in town visiting Th, Fr, Sat. Will be running him to the airport on Saturday, but as of now I'm not sure what time, so I can't say for sure when I'd be free. A drive sure sounds like a good idea, Klone.
I took the 8 out last night after several days in the garage. Was a nice run.
Klone 10-14-2008, 01:35 PM I know the snow sucked this weekend, so I waxed the car and changed my filter. At least snow is good for projects, we can make the drive on Sunday as well, the weather may change, not sure what it will be like, but KSL has dark clouds on Sunday. I am sure it will change, I am free either day. It might be one of the last good weekends we get.
Klone 10-15-2008, 10:40 AM Sunday looks better according to the weather people. If anyone wants that day I am up for it.
04rx8gr 10-15-2008, 11:39 AM You know im up for it :) Just might have a halfway torn apart car :) been working on hooking up a aftermarket amp to the Bose system.
I'm out sadly, will be for a couple weeks. I got into a wreck last night and she needs to go to the hospital. I'll update more later, just too sad right now.
Jethro Tull 10-15-2008, 12:01 PM Bose! Dude! What happended? Forget the car, are YOU OK?
Think of this as an opportunity to upgrade to some custom mods.
rx8snowboard 10-15-2008, 12:42 PM did you get hurt bose, how bad was the wreck, was it just cosmetic or will she need surgery? My baby is in the shop again for second gear grinding, any ideas on what it could be? I just had them replace all the syncro's not to long ago :(
Thank you for your concern JT, and yes I am just fine.
Relatively low speed crash, I was at a double left hand turn, in the left lane she was in the right left turn lane. She was already stopped, and I was approaching and it turned green. So I slowed to about 20ish, and took the turn as usual. I drive this almost everyday. Once the turn had been completed and she decided she either wanted my lane or wanted to do a U turn cause she ended up in my lane I tried to slam on the brakes but to no avail she was to close for me to do so in time. I have no pics of the damage right now but will shortly.
