WreakLoosE 04-12-2008, 08:39 AM Yep.. That is my evil plan... I want to keep the WRX and get the RX8 on the side and have that as my garage queen.. The only thing is that I would have to park the WRX outside now... maybe I can have my wife park outside?? ok ok.. Fine let me get the RX8 first and then we can see.. I dont wanna push it so soon..lol.
Only half full of beer fireworks and porn.:ylsuper:
Klone 04-15-2008, 04:05 PM My WRX is finally parked outside, but it is not bad. I throw a cover on it and it has held up rather nicely.
Jethro Tull 04-16-2008, 05:12 PM Hey, guys, those WRX's were MADE for the snow and slush- no worries!
Jethro Tull 04-17-2008, 12:32 AM Saturday's going to be nice. Thanks to bose, I may be cruising up the canyon to check-out a 1981 FB RX-7 for a project car. Whoo-hoo! (Thanks, Mike!)
would be very awesome if it's in good condition, keep me posted. Good luck.
Jethro Tull 04-17-2008, 02:49 PM I was going to lunch today, and a guy in a white 8 just blew-by me (I was in my old Explorer). Anybody on 8club?
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii24/JethroTull1958/white8.jpg
This was getting on I-215 southbound from Redwood Road in North Salt Lake at about noon today (Thursday). The car sounded throaty, like an aftermarket exhaust. I took the photo with my cell phone so the quality isn't the best. Whoever it was, was right in front of me going around the curve on the freeway on-ramp.
Anybody? I think the license plate was 415USS.
Phil's 8 04-18-2008, 07:55 AM Jethro, any move afoot in Utah for a caravan to Seven Stock??? We are planning one here and thought maybe a meet up in Vegas.

Not among the 8 owners that I'm in contact with, although there might be something going on with the local 7 owners. The Salt Lake rotary board is almost exclusively 7 drivers and I'm just a marginal figure there.

Ok, the 7s in most areas like to be separate. Some here would join us, most will not. Just checking if you have a Seven Stock contingent caravaning in that wished to join up with a group here.
Jethro Tull 04-22-2008, 11:14 AM Any Utah locals ever taken the nose off their car? I've been told it's not difficult, but having replaced body panels on other cars before, I know that getting things re-aligned can sometimes be a pain in the @ss.
Yeah, it really is very easy, it's easiest to remove both front wheels put it on jackstands. then it's like 25 plastic clips and 10 screws, and some electrical clips. It only takes 20 min, maybe less. I've had mine off like 4 times.
Jethro Tull 04-22-2008, 11:38 PM ^^And everything lines up perfectly when you put it back on?
yeah lines up great, it's obscenly easy.
Jethro Tull 04-24-2008, 12:29 AM The headlights stay on the car, right? Only the corner lights are attached to the plastic nose shell, yes?
Yep, those two on the lights, then all the wheel well clips in the front, you take the 'lower' portion of it off completely on both sides. Then all the screws on the front lip where the undertray mounts. and the 6 clips under neath. Reach in the wheel well and undo the harness for the fog lights and the side markers. On top there are 6 push pin/clips for the black panel on top, then after that's out of the way there are two small white push pins and 4 screws once this is done your ready to remove, best to have two people but if not no biggie. go to the wheel wells first and pull VERY GENTLY up and out, you don't have to pull hard, do this on both sides then once they are out of their 'grooves' the middle will come up pull up and out again (also gently) and viola!
this is what I am pulling from my memory, so it's not exact but almost spot on. What are you planning? Oil cooler/radiator screens?
Jethro Tull 04-24-2008, 02:55 PM What are you planning? Oil cooler/radiator screens?
Yes, I'm shopping around now and would like to put some on before I take any road trips this summer.
I also want to fix a few paint chips and it would be easier with the nose off.
Yeah, it's really like a 15-20 min process if you have someone that's done it before, this first time I took like 2.5 hours cause I was so nervous about breaking it.
DariusDemon 04-24-2008, 09:27 PM Speaking of taking bumpers off...I just got some clear corners. Jethro think maybe you wanna help me put those babies in?
kobe24mvp 04-25-2008, 12:35 AM they're really easy to put in.. like 15 min to put both on. just look for the do it yourself for it here
Jethro Tull 04-25-2008, 01:26 AM Speaking of taking bumpers off...I just got some clear corners. Jethro think maybe you wanna help me put those babies in?
Sure! Love to help. And kobe's right, it's a snap.
Don't do it until you get some amber bulbs or LED's first, though, or the cops could pull you over.
Jethro Tull 04-28-2008, 10:17 AM Local board's been dead for a few days...you guys still alive?
I drove the 8 out to Stansbury Park last night and used the big telescope for a couple of hours. It was a nice drive, but the lake stinks something fierce, and the nose of the car is covered with dead bugs! Going to wash it after work today.
I'm still here lurking. Just been crazy busy at work, no time to screw around like normal. But it's finally calming, a bit.

Hey I might have driven past you out on I-80.. I was driving back from the miller motorsports park yesterday in the afternoon. What color 8 do you have again?
Not alot of driving done this weekend, but I did install my new intake and painted my engine cover. Did alot of yard work too, fun stuff.
Jethro Tull 04-28-2008, 02:22 PM She's Sunlight Silver, kobe.
kobe24mvp 04-28-2008, 09:35 PM well yeah i drove past a silver rx8 on the way back from there.. i was in a maxima though
Jethro Tull 04-29-2008, 12:45 AM I was westbound from about 7:15 to 7:40 pm, so if it was in that timeframe, it probably was me.
Jethro Tull 04-29-2008, 12:47 AM Today I washed the bugs off the car from my trip to Stansbury on Sunday, detailed it inside and out, vacuumed the carpet in the garage that I park it on, parked it and put the cover on for a few days.
The wind is supposed to blow tomorrow and if it's as bad as last week, it's going to be dusty. I'm hoping keeping the car in the garage and covered will keep it clean until the weather is decent again.
Yes, you read correctly. I park my 8 on carpet in the garage.
I am envious, my poor car gets no garage treatment.
Damn this weather to hell.
Jethro Tull 05-02-2008, 01:03 AM Hey, Darius, what's the word? Is that black beauty back on the road?
DariusDemon 05-02-2008, 09:19 PM Heck yes it is! but guess what? something put a nice 4 inch scratch along the side of my brand new driver side fender! I know I didnt do it cause it curves up and over towards the hood. I am soooo uber pissed. *sigh* Anyway other than and the clear corners I still need to install It's looking perfect. no more rock chips;) I really need to install the clear corners though. they're the only thing on my car with color besides the tail lights. They stand out way ban now that I have no front emblem(which looks great by the way)
Xiphoid 05-04-2008, 11:56 PM I just got Tein S springs, do guys know a good place to install them under $300?
forgive me darius, but where do you live again? I would help you put those in if you want, it's way easy take 5 min a side.
And Xiphoid, anywhere that does suspension could do it. Hell I could do it, just couldn't corner balance them for you. But they really aren't that difficult.
Xiphoid 05-05-2008, 06:58 PM I donīt have the tools nor the place to install them, I checked with a couple of places, either they donīt install cusomer parts or charge pretty high, Big O tire quoted me $350 with out the allignment :Eyecrazy:
MILITARYMAN 05-06-2008, 12:45 AM hey everyone whats new i totalled my 8 over the winter on i 15 i need a new one! If anybody know whats good let me know please! and also looking for a new job guys help me out. if you guys have any ideas let me know
kobe24mvp 05-06-2008, 02:18 AM Dang that sucks man! I'll let you know if i see any.. how much you looking to spend?
Xiphoid 05-06-2008, 03:21 AM looking to pay under $300 for installation + alignment
MILITARYMAN 05-06-2008, 12:56 PM i bought my winning blue for 13000 i not really in a position to do that so maybe a better deal this time
Jethro Tull 05-06-2008, 04:25 PM MILITARYMAN, it's going to probably be 4 years old with high mileage, to get into an 8 for less than 13 grand...are you prepared to deal with the maintenence issues of a high-mileage '04? And if it needs new rubber, there's another six hundred, at least, and probably closer to a thousand for really good tires.
There's a gray one for sale in my neighborhood, but I think he wants something like 16 thousand. Want me to cruise by and get the number off the sign? Maybe you can talk him down.
I feel badly for you. My 8 spent the winter snug as a bug in the garage, parked on a big piece of carpeting (with plastic underneath as a moisture barrier).
Jethro Tull 05-06-2008, 04:29 PM I really need to install the clear corners though. they're the only thing on my car with color besides the tail lights. They stand out way ban now that I have no front emblem(which looks great by the way)
If you can bring it by my shop in North Salt Lake during the day, I can do them for you. Like bose said, it's only about five or ten minutes per side.
I'm usually here until 3:30 pm during the week, M-Th. PM me if you can swing it and I'll give you directions.
Got yellow bulbs or LED's yet? I wouldn't install them with clear bulbs- too risky for a ticket.

You might ask around on the SLCRotary board. That's where the local rotary mechanics hang out. Mostly RX-7 drivers, but I'll bet that one of 'em could help you.

I got that guys number on 3200 if he wants 16k i think he needs to come down it not in great shape but i did call him , he has not called back yet,i would rather have a winning blue or black if anyone knows anything?
Xiphoid 05-07-2008, 12:52 AM Thanks for the help guys, I'll check out the link.

Yep, that's the one. Did he replace the windshield yet? Last time I looked, it had a huge crack in it. His sticker expired in April, so if he didn't replace the windshield then he didn't renew his tag.
Man, that sucks that you wiped-out the old one. It's sad when an 8 goes to that big wrecking yard in the sky. :(
Have you noticed a red one cruising around our neighborhood? It's driven by a little girl, either Asian or Hispanic, from what I can tell in passing.
RoXas585 05-07-2008, 03:09 AM Hi everyone,
I just recently bought an '04 RX-8 about a month ago. I am loving it. Its a dark forest green (I don't know the exact color name) with 19" aftermarket rims. I live in the Sandy/Draper area. Whatever group rides you guys do, I would totally be down. Just thought I would introduce myself as a noob to the board. Hope to meet you all some time. I would really appreciate some advice for upkeep or any general information about the 8.
Thanks!
Welcome my friend, the color is called Nordic Green. Great color, I live in Sandy also I have silver 8. Any questions you have just post here or pm, I'm more than happy to help.
Basically you'll want to check your oil everyonce and a while, I usually check every Sat/Sun. as part of my cleaning. How many miles are on it and is it manual or auto? Again welcome to the club.

Welcome, RoXas585, good to have another local! We haven't done anything yet this year since the weather has sucked big-time until recently, but I think a cruise in the near future is a definite possibility.
RoXas585 05-07-2008, 12:39 PM Thanks for the heads up on the color name bose. It has 80k miles, so definitely alot. Its a 6sp manual.
Last week it actually completely died on me. It was still under warranty from the place that I bought it from so they towed it and took care of it. Apparently it was the ignition coils, so they replaced them and it seems to be running fine now. I do have one other issue however. It seems to be getting abnormally low mileage... like 12-13 mpg. I'm not driving it like an idiot or anything. Anyone know what it could be or what I should do?
Also, is there a recommendation for oil brand and type that works well with the 8 and where to take it for changes?
thanks all for the welcome and help!

Coils are a well-known problem. Many people replace them fairly regularly, even before they fail outright. New coils should also improve your mileage slightly. 15mpg city is about average; your high odometer mileage may have something to do with your low gas mileage. Watch it carefully and see if it improves with the new coils. My car is an '07 with only 5,000 miles on it and my city mileage is about 16mpg, on the highway I can get 20-21.
Do some searching on oil, there's a lot of discussion on this site on oil issues. Some people recommend a heavier oil, for better engine protection, but anything heavier than the 5w-20 that Mazda recommends can reduce your mileage.
Remember that the engine uses oil injection and it does consume oil- be sure to check your level at least every other fill-up of gas.
I use the Idemitsu premix at 1/2 the recommended rate and some people claim that it can increase mileage ever so slightly. Again, do some searching and decide for yourself. I can say for sure that my starts are smoother, both in sound and feel.
And you know to never shut off the engine cold, right? If you do, you risk flooding it, and the de-flood procedure can be a pain.
It can be a fussy car- but if you pay attention to it, it won't be an issue. I love mine and would not trade it for something twice as fast.
Jethro Tull 05-07-2008, 04:23 PM Hey, guys, last year I bought WreakLoosE's stock hood (he had installed a CF hood), but it's just getting in the way in my garage. So if anyone needs a gray hood (it's either GG or TiGr, I forget), I'll sell it to you. BN is over $400, I'll entertain offers. It is in excellent condition except for one teeny, BB-sized dimple near one edge. If you're going to repaint it then this isn't even a concern. Amazingly light, the stock hood only weighs about 15 lbs.
I tried hanging it in my living room as an artwork, but that just PO'd my wife!
MILITARYMAN 05-07-2008, 04:34 PM no i dont think i have seen a red one see a silver 04 around alot but thats it , i didnt notice if he had his car registered yet but i think the flashy colors are noticable so i dont want it i dont think
Jethro Tull 05-07-2008, 04:44 PM That's why I like silver. "Under the radar". But, I've always liked silver cars. The 8 isn't my first. It looks high-tech to me.
MILITARYMAN 05-07-2008, 05:47 PM ya my favs are the blue red silver and black
kobe24mvp 05-08-2008, 02:32 AM i'd get a white one if i were you.. black is really nice looking when its clean but thats rarely. If i could trade mine for i white one i would then i would only worry about having to keep 2 white cars clean
RoXas585 05-08-2008, 03:36 AM Thanks for the suggestions Jethro. I appreciate it. I spent alot of time today reading all the oil posts and debates. I was wondering where you got the Idemitsu premix? I would really like to try this out. I definitely notice that my car idles kinda hard and I could use any mpg boost, so I am willing to try anything. From what I have read, it sounds like using a good premix in small amounts can really help.
CDUBYAZ 05-08-2008, 09:53 AM Hey RoXas, whats up i think i know where you bought that car from, its called chicos isnt it or something to that nature? i work real close to it so i saw that car there a couple times i even stopped and lookes at it. high miles but nice never the less. I have an 05 white one that i bought lovin it. i have only had it for a month but its great. i had a couple issues as well but overall it has a been a good car, i hope to see u around, i live in Draper like right off pioneer road and 1400 east.
Hey guys i have a question, does anyone else's f'in CD player suck ballz? every time i hit the slightest bump the damn thing skips and skips and skips, getting annoying. Should i have the dealership replace it under warrenty or is it normal for it to do that? also has anyone done the ipod hook up deal? is it worth a shit, i have to get something in that car, other then CD's.
Thanks guys
RoXas585 05-08-2008, 10:39 AM CDUBYAZ you are exactly right. Thats where I bought it from. They are a great dealership. I was very impressed. They are kinda funny too in regards to some of the stuff they do to drive the sale. When I was there looking at my 8 I noticed that every car there had these totally baller rims and I was wondering why. Yesterday when I went to pick up my plates, there was a guy there putting new rims on four cars they recently had traded in. I guess whenever they get a new car, they immediately put crazy aftermarket rims on either to increase the value or they are trying to appeal to a certain crowd.
We are practically neighbors. I live near the corner of 11400 S and 1300 E. Really close. Im sure I'll see you around!
Jethro Tull 05-08-2008, 10:56 AM Thanks for the suggestions Jethro. I appreciate it. I spent alot of time today reading all the oil posts and debates. I was wondering where you got the Idemitsu premix?
I ordered a case from Mazdatrix. I think they are on the vendor's forum on this Website. It was about $58, shipped to my front door from California. 12 quarts to a case. I didn't really shop around first, but they do have a good price on the stuff. I just picked the vendor closest to SLC that I could find, who would ship the stuff. I've never found it locally.
I have a little plastic 4-ounce squeeze bottle, with a long spout, that I use for squirting it into the gas tank. I've measured and marked the side of the bottle in 1-ounce increments. After I squirt in the right amount, which depends on how much gas I pumped, I add a little more gas from a gas can in the garage, just to make sure all the premix gets washed down into the tank itself.
Jethro Tull 05-08-2008, 11:01 AM Hey guys i have a question, does anyone else's f'in CD player suck ballz? every time i hit the slightest bump the damn thing skips and skips and skips, getting annoying.
Do you have the single disc player, or the 6-disc changer?
I have the 6-disc, 300-watt Bose system and it works like a champ. Never skipped at all and it sounds great.
I think getting the dealer's opinion is a good idea, and if they'll replace it for free or at minimal cost it might be worth it.
Mine does that too sometimes, but I personally don't care cause I'm listening to my exhaust more than music.
Jethro Tull 05-08-2008, 04:11 PM You gave me a great idea, bose.
I'm going to record a bunch of different aftermarket exhausts, then burn them onto a CD.
Then I can have any exhaust sound I want, for just the price of a blank CD.
And it will sound better on the Bose system than the real thing! :lol2:
MILITARYMAN 05-08-2008, 08:14 PM i had a 3 thousand dollar system in my single disc and it never skipped so there must be a problem
CDUBYAZ 05-09-2008, 10:36 AM Yeah Militaryman, i have a system that hits pretty hard and when i have the bass up the thing skips cause its vibrating so much! At first i thought there was just to much power and it was shorting out or something but then i thought it cant be cause it doesnt do it with the radio, i have a 1000 watt amp running two 12's so there is no way it i have to much power for that amp to run it. It really bugs me.
Yesterday i got a call from D Dahle asking me how my service went in my car and if i had any problems with the work they did, i told them they left it all dirty inside, and the lady said sorry and to bring it by today so she can clean and detail it! so thats pretty good, also i am gonna have them check the stereo, i just can't believe it skips that bad, i am sure there is a problem.
that would be awesome JT, put a bunch of burnouts and stuff on there too, and blast a Drag race launch sound but take off at a normal pace.
DariusDemon 05-09-2008, 03:19 PM Haha RoXas585, sounds like that's you Randal! This is Dallin ;) Good to see you on here. Bose I live in sugar house but I'm down in Sandy alot. 5 minutes per side eh? Wow maybe I just need to take a closer look and do it myself lol. But yeah Randle or is it Randal....or are those both wrong? haha I'll call you Roxas on here;) So yeah I'll see you on wed and we can take a gander at your car. Not that I know any more than you!
Yeah it's uber simple. Here's a link to DIY. Don't worry about his 'internal reflector problem' cause they look great with it in but it will tell you how to get back there and put it in.

MILITARYMAN 05-09-2008, 05:39 PM I have two rockford fosgate p3 and a 3000 watt one ohm amp and never had a problem maybe its just your cd you said your radio does not do it have you tried a brand new cd or mps
CDUBYAZ 05-10-2008, 10:34 AM Yeah those are the subs i have only with a 1000 runnin em. Sounds pretty good, but no my single disk doesnt play mp3 i dont think, does it. and yeah i have tried a few different CD's all well i guess i will just have dearler look at em.

MILITARYMAN 05-11-2008, 12:46 AM ya your cd player plays mps and you can press the dis button and it willl tell you the name of the song and on the radio if the disp button is on some stations will tell you what song is playin
DariusDemon 05-11-2008, 01:34 PM ok cool. THanks Bose! Yeah I looked at it again and it looks simple enough. Ahh man I went out last to night and did some street racing out west. Who says our cars can't drag?!?!?! (well i did...but damn!) lol I was mopping the floor with everyone! a decked out turboed eclipse, another decked out jeta GLI a couple spooned out integras. Man that was fun. My sister brought her Mini Cooper S and I raced it for her too cause she was scared haha. But yeah that was the first time I've taken my 8 racing and it was a blast! undefeated!
MILITARYMAN 05-11-2008, 07:15 PM our cant drag race something in out class like the speed 6 or the g 35 or the 350z you will lose you only mentioned 4 cylenders with turbo
Jethro Tull 05-11-2008, 10:09 PM Hey, Darius, congrats!
Just a piece of adivce, though-
If a Mustang has a hood scoop, STAY AWAY! It will eat you for lunch.
If it doesn't, just make sure you're revved above 5500 before you launch, and you'll do OK.
:)
Yeah Darius! Our cars aren't so bad in drags just depends on the opponent.
MILITARYMAN 05-12-2008, 11:41 AM our cars are not horrible drags but they are great drifters with a little practice
CDUBYAZ 05-13-2008, 11:26 AM ya your cd player plays mps and you can press the dis button and it willl tell you the name of the song and on the radio if the disp button is on some stations will tell you what song is playin

Does your CD player hold one CD, or six?
RoXas585 05-13-2008, 12:38 PM Hey Darius! Yeah this is Randle. You had the spelling right the second time :) lol You'll have to take a look at my car tomorrow and see if you can share any knowledge with me. And I wanna hear about the racing you did!
What are peoples schedules like on Saturday. Its supposed to be an amazing day weather wise. We should arrange a canyon drive or something. Anyone down?
Read my mind man, I am very down. Also rmr midnight drags this friday night, anyone going? I'm just going to watch, no racing for me for a bit.
MILITARYMAN 05-13-2008, 12:59 PM I had an 04 winning blue I recently totalled it I am still looking for a new one but my stereo never had any probs

MILITARYMAN 05-13-2008, 04:49 PM somewhere in ogden i think
DariusDemon 05-13-2008, 04:50 PM Yeah we'll check it out. I migggght be able to do a canyon run but im not sure. I promised a friend we'd do volleyball and have a canyon bbq so I dunno, maybe we can do both. Ive got an 05' my stereo doesnt play mp3's either but it never skips.
Ah come on, Let's drive!!! subie owners meet everyweekend rain or shine, I mean hell they are a really cool bunch of people, but I need to drive with fellow 8's.
SO LET'S DRIVE.
Jethro Tull 05-14-2008, 11:50 AM I need to find a co-signer so I can buy gas first! (J/K!)
haha, I need one for tires. Well not really I just have to wait a week til I get my credit card, new rims are on the way. I'm pretty stoked.
seriouscoin1 05-14-2008, 04:28 PM Hey guys, Im sad to say the 8 has to go. I just bought it for wayyy too much! I will be selling it for 16k-17k it is charcoal grey 39,900 miles. Please let me know if anyone is interested. My baby girl came on 05-05-2008! Need a family type of car that is not soo much. Please let me know if you know anyone that is interested. My cell is 801-243-5607 thanks guys!!
tancred 05-14-2008, 04:57 PM Well I am new the club I suppose, I have a Nordic Green GT, saw a red GT this morning downtown and a Grey yesterday afternoon down in Draper. Odds are I will be easy to spot because my 8 will be the one that gets the SHIT driven out of it on a daily basis. They extended my warranty and added over 265 more parts for it to cover. Only mods so far are some airbox gutting and a Accessport, browsing exhausts at the moment, and going to go Petit blower in the VERY near future...

Congrats on the new arrival, but sorry that that the 8 has to go. :tear:
Stay on the boards, man. You man get another rotary rocket sooner than you think!

Welcome!
I saw a Nordic Green on I-215 Tuesday morning, southbound, by the airport...was that you, by any chance? I was northbound in my Sunlight Silver.
Good to see you Tancred, this is the same bose from slc rotary.
We need to do a drive this weekend, who is down?
MILITARYMAN 05-15-2008, 10:43 AM yah man thats why i still here as you all know i totalled mine 6 months ago but i can dream of havin a new one
tancred 05-15-2008, 09:44 PM I would be interested, prefer sunday if possible. Depends if I get drafted into work on saturday........addicted to overtime at the moment......always the willing volunteer...
Jethro Tull 05-16-2008, 01:20 AM Bad weekend for me to cruise. Way too much to do around the house. Have to take a raincheck on this one, bose.
well whoever can come let me know, i'm gonna be cruising around all weekend like always.
Jethro Tull 05-16-2008, 07:39 PM What a Friday. I got the swamp cooler fired up for the season, and what a chore. I had to replace the motor and the water pump. I bought the motor last fall- the old one died the day before I was going to shut it down- but today was the day I got to put it in. I also have small window-mount air conditioner that I install in my bedroom on the second floor, so I can sleep cool when it gets too humid for the swamper to work well come August.
Now I'm going to go mow the lawn and call it a day. Shower, go to dinner, and start again in the morning. Have to repace 16' of fence that blew-down this spring, as well as plant the tomatoes and get the pool up for the summer. A full weekend for sure!
tancred 05-17-2008, 06:52 PM If anyone wants to meet up tonight once it gets a bit cooler I wouldnt mind going for a little cruise...
DariusDemon 05-17-2008, 08:55 PM hmm I dunno about tonight but sunday is still a possibility for me, oh and I put the clear corners in! what a difference!
RoXas585 05-17-2008, 11:00 PM I just got back from cruising around Draper a bit. I saw someone driving a black 8 on 12300S and 1300E. Was that anyone here? I tagged along next to them for a bit, but they never saw me.
PS anyone recommend an ipod adapter for the stock 6 disc cd player? Anyone have one in their car? I have tried to read alot of the posts on it, but there are so many different brands/styles they talk about.
tancred 05-18-2008, 10:48 AM So let me know if anyone wants to meet up today.
~Baby Boy~ 05-18-2008, 04:27 PM Roxas what color 8 do you got?
Jethro Tull 05-18-2008, 06:57 PM I'm taking the last week of May off, so I could probably squeeze in a cruise sometime during that time. In the meantime I'm just swamped at work and home. Remodeling this summer but need to take care of a bunch of repair/maintainence issues first. Hell, a car isn't a real money pit compared to a house!
Put 5 gallons in the tank this morning, and a dose of premix. I've noticed that since I started premixing, I'm getting a little more carbon on my chrome exhaust tips. Not much, but enough to notice. Hmmm...
RoXas585 05-18-2008, 09:34 PM I have a Nordic Green with 20" aftermarket rims. Why do you ask?
This weekend was not a great one for me, just bad times so there wasn't time for it, I'm totally pissed about it. But things needed straitening out so whatever.
And Holy BJezuz 20" rims? I suggest, get rid of those boat anchors and get some lighter wheels and you'll have better acceleration and depending on what you go with better handling.
RoXas585 05-19-2008, 12:05 PM LOL yeah a have to agree with you on the rims bose. I didnt actually buy them. The dealership that I bought it from put them on before I bought it. I do need to look into a set of 18"s.
Ah, that was nice of them hell you could probably sell those and buy a new set strait up.
smartyfool 05-20-2008, 05:59 AM Hi guys i moved from Cali to utah last april. I guess i have a hard time with the snow here driving with my 8. Anyways, may i ask you guys some questoins here, what engine oil grade are you guys using ( ya, its Utah), and what kind of performance mod do you guys recommand ( those light one, not turbo)
Thanks guys and i will try to post more here from now on :P

Welcome smartyfool!
I don't have a hard time with my 8 in snow- because I don't drive it. It spends the winter parked in my garage while I drive an Explorer. But a lot of other local 8 owners drive their cars year-round. For me it's not a handling thing- I just don't want to expose my car to road salt and sand. I ruined an RX-7 doing that here years ago. Also, I'm Mr. Stock. I have an '07 that I bought last year BN and so far have only added clear corners, and front and rear rotary accents, plus I bought the Mazda cover and front mask. This year I'm going to add eyelids, fender strakes, and front-and-rear splash guards. No performance mods until my extended warranty is expired in a few more years. But several locals are into mods and I'm sure they'll be posting soon. Bose is always looking for more hp, and DariusDemon has an aftermarket breather, that I'm aware of.
I have to admit that I'm interested in the Cobb Accessport and researching that one now- a possible purchase if it doesn't affect my warranty.
If we can get a cruise or meet going, you must join us! What are the details of your 8?
Good to see you found the club smartyfool. Feel free to post any questions you have in either this or the other Utah thread. Also where are you in Utah? And what are the details on your car, year, color, mileage, any mods
Winter and the 8 are not best friends, if your like me and have no second car to beat up you'll need a good set of snowtires to manage. As far as oil goes I use castrol gtx 5-w20 right now but since it's getting hotter I'm going to switch to a heavier weight, need to do a bit of research before I do though.
As for mods there are alot of little ones you can do. What are your goals? More power, handling? Let me know and I will help steer you, but I don't have all the answers.
And finally Jethro, the Cobb accessport is not detecable as long as you reflash back to stock, I would say almost no chance they could tell you flashed it. And I only say almost cause I'm not 100% more like 99% just cause the way it works, it's like an ninja, no trace of it once it's gone.
Jethro Tull 05-20-2008, 01:08 PM I got the impression you leave it attached, so you could monitor certain parameters in real-time. But I guess you're right- nothing to prevent you from restoring the factory flashes before taking it in to Mazda...
You are correct that you can use it to monitor many realtime things, but it doesn't need to be hook up to do the job, all it does is take factory flash and store it to it's internal memory, then puts it's map in place of the stock flash. Swap them as much as you like. (within reason)
Jethro Tull 05-21-2008, 11:22 AM Interesting... Have you bought one?
Have not, my money is all tied up right now until my wheels and tires get here, then I want to do the mazsport 5speed conversion. (damned 4th gear synchro) But all my buddies with subaru's have them and they work the same.
Jethro Tull 05-21-2008, 05:41 PM I'm getting eyelids, strakes, and splash guards this summer...just might have to spring for the Cobb AP in August or Sept...
smartyfool 05-28-2008, 02:36 AM thanks for all the reply guys, i am in Pleasant Grove here, a silver 05, with all the aero package. I guess i have to stick with this car since i cant afford another ( nor the space) but i think a lil zaino once a while helps a lot with the paint.
Have you guys done any intakes for the car ? If so , what brand do you guys recommend ? RB one is just way too exp.... $650 :(
Jethro Tull 05-28-2008, 03:47 AM Check out DariusDemon's car. He has a custom intake.
Shawna_ 05-28-2008, 10:10 AM Hey Smarty,
I think I've seen you around town. I am in orem and have a pearl white Shinka.
not to many of us around here. I know the other PG dweller is a black one that belongs to the survivour winner of last year. I've only saw him once though. Well enjoy SEE YA AROUND!!
ZoomZoom
I have had two intakes, right now I have the Racing Beat and last I had the AEM/mazdaspeed. In my opinion the AEM is not very good period, only cool thing is that it's LOUD AS HELL and does nothing for performance. The Racing Beat intake and duct it what I have now and I love it. Not annoying good throttle response and such. Any questions let me know. PM me or whatever.
smartyfool 05-29-2008, 12:29 AM maybe i should really save up and get the RB ones....
650 bucks...
I should probably mention I got mine used, actually traded a guy my AEM for it, otherwise I was going to go with the k&n typhoon. Look in the for sale section on this site also check ebay. who knows maybe you can find one cheap.
Jethro Tull 05-30-2008, 01:55 AM Anybody got time for a drive this weekend? We should do this while we can still afford the gas!
im up for it. canyon run or maybe out to miller and we could check out the superbikes maybe, kinda pricey though.
Klone 05-30-2008, 10:21 AM Like Bose said the Accessport does not need to be connected at all times. Just to flash the computer. Once the flash is complete you can disconnect it and store it, unless you want to monitor any of the real time parameters of the car. I have one for my WRX and it is great. Welcome to Utah and enjoy the 8.
RoXas585 05-30-2008, 09:12 PM I would be down for a drive, but sadly my 8 is in the shop....again. I got a call from the repair place and they said the catalytic converter is broken and that is was going to cost $1600!!! :banghead:
I am beginning to think the world hates me. :(
RoXas585 05-30-2008, 09:47 PM After talking with DariusDemon, he suggested replacing the entire exhaust system. After doing a quick search (I'm at work) the price deffinitely seems to be better for an entire aftermarket exhaust vs the cat from the dealership. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should look for? ex. brand, type, specifications..
I dont really know anything about this so any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
Thanks once again to you all!
Xiphoid 05-30-2008, 09:51 PM If you decide on getting an oem cat I can sell you mine for $150
It depends on what kind of sound you are looking for. There's a bunch out there now. try looking on youtube for vids of different exhausts. The greddy sp2 is one of the quieter ones around I know, borla's one of the loudest.
Jethro Tull 05-31-2008, 05:29 PM Any performance difference between manufacturers, or are they all about the same? Does it really boil down to just a sound difference for your money?
RoXas585 06-01-2008, 06:48 PM Hey everyone I'm sorry if I am beginning to sound like a broken record always asking for help, but I am confused about the catalytic converter problem I have been having.
Recap: I need a new Catalytic Converter. The OEM one from the dealer is $1400. I was under the assumption that I could buy a new aftermarket exhaust system and they come with a new catalytic converter. I believe I was wrong in that assumption. I was looking at getting the Borla cat back system but I noticed that it connects at the catalytic converter and does not come with one.
My question is do I need to get a replacement catalytic converter? If I were to buy an aftermarket exhaust system, are there any that come with the catalytic converter or a similar pipe that replaces the catalytic converter? I read all through the Exhausts page and there wasn't any info on what I need. I know there are a couple of people on the Utah board that have aftermarket exhausts and I was hoping I could find some answers from you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! You guys are awesome and I appreciate all the help you have given me.
PS Xiphoid, if it turns out I do need a catalytic converter, I will probably take you up on that.
MILITARYMAN 06-01-2008, 09:36 PM You can hollow it out and it will work but you need to keep your resinator on for back pressure the rotory needs back pressure
RoXas585 06-01-2008, 11:56 PM After spending all day reading different posts I figured out that I should get a high flow cat. I noticed from the signatures that bose and Xiphoid have Rotary Performance cats. How are these working for you? Do you have any problems passing emissions? That is my biggest concern purchasing this.
I guess there is also one available from rx7store.net. If anyone here has this or has experience with it, please let me know what you think of it!
Most after market exhausts you see being sold are 'cat-back' exhaust, which do not include a cat pipe, you would have to buy a seperate 'cat, or race pipe' as some companies call it. I have the Rp as you noticed, I haven't had to do emissions testing so not sure, but I haven't had a check engine light related to it so as far as I can tell it does it's job. With High flow cats you should have no problem.
Shouldn't your cat be covered under the emissions warranty? I thought it was and 80,000 mi. thing, not sure but I would look into it.
RoXas585 06-02-2008, 12:23 PM Thank you so much for the info bose. You are correct about the warranty being 80000 miles, however my car has 88000, so i just missed it. where did you get the RP high flow cat? I checked on the Rotary Performance website and it only has the Super Cat Midpipe. Is this the same as yours? Do they make it still? I guess there is also a high flow cat on rx7store.net, but I didn't know how the quality was on that one.
Ah I see, I actually bought mine used, but he got it from rx7store.com. The one they sell is the RP supercat, they have revised it a bit but all in all it's the same but improved. So weather you go through rx7store or rotary performance it's the same one just get the one that's cheaper.
And don't worry about the questions. That's what this place is for :)
Jethro Tull 06-03-2008, 01:37 AM OK people, EVERYONE needs to read this thread:
http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=147287
It's for REAL, I got my paperwork from Mazda today!
I got mine last night, I wonder if this means they never fully voided my warranty? Not sure what this means for me but it's still very cool of MNAO to extend a hand to us Rotarians.
kobe24mvp 06-03-2008, 11:45 PM OK people, EVERYONE needs to read this thread:

It's for REAL, I got my paperwork from Mazda today!
so it applies to everyone or do you have to get a letter from the dealership that says you get it? and is it if you bought it from a dealership? i got mine from bountiful mazda
Jethro Tull 06-04-2008, 11:07 AM It applies to every RX-8 made to date, regardless if you bought it new or used.
The packet contains a form for getting reimbursed for engine core expenses already spent, and an outline of the warranty extension. That's the really nice thing about this extension- if you've already spent money on core repairs (and kept your receipts), you will get reimbursed by Mazda.
Even if you didn't get a packet in the mail, your 8 should still be covered.
The packet is sent from Mazda corporate offices, not the dealers.
DariusDemon 06-04-2008, 11:21 AM yup i just got my packet in the mail yesterday> I thinks that's pretty darn cool ;)
kobe24mvp 06-04-2008, 10:32 PM It applies to every RX-8 made to date, regardless if you bought it new or used.

sweet! i got mine in the mail yesterday anyways but thats good news!!
RoXas585 06-05-2008, 01:29 AM Havent got mine yet and I dont know if I will due to me only owning my car for a little over 2 months now. I still think that is awesome information. :)
roxas you may need to call mazda north america and make sure you are the registered owner in their system. Make sure you have your vin number and just I want to update ownership on this vehicle.
All in all a spot on move by Mazda.
rx8snowboard 06-07-2008, 11:43 AM Hey, my 8 got egged last night, oh man was I upset this morning... death to people who try to hurt other people's cars.. grrr... Anyway, I just signed up to this club and I thought I would introduce myself, I am in sandy with a 04 BB rx8 sport 6mt with about 53k and I have had it for about a year. I love my car and would love to meet up with some other drivers to chat about this amazing vehicle :)

Yo rx8snowboard, do you work at iceburge in draper and 123rd? i always drive by there and see a BB rx8
rx8snowboard 06-07-2008, 12:35 PM No, I think that is one of those cherry red mica colors or something.. I think a chic drives it
welcome to the club, glad you found it. I live in Sandy as well and have a silver 8, where in Sandy are you? I live on about 100th south and 20th east. Anyway if you have any questions or anything post em here.
And to all, let's try to have a meet this weekend. How about it.
rx8snowboard 06-08-2008, 01:17 PM welcome to the club, glad you found it. I live in Sandy as well and have a silver 8, where in Sandy are you? I live on about 100th south and 20th east. Anyway if you have any questions or anything post em here.

110th and 13th E. I am a daily driver so you should see me around:lol2: I think we should have a meet this weekend as well.
seriouscoin1 06-08-2008, 05:20 PM welcome rx8snowboard! You guys rcv. a warranty ext. in the mail? It says that the warranty is extended to 8 yrs. 100k miles. Let me know if you guys got that.
RoXas585 06-08-2008, 06:47 PM Hey rx8snowboard. Im pretty sure I have driven by you a couple of times. I live really close to you: 11400 S 1300 E. I would totally be down for a ride this weekend. Got nothing else going on.
I did end up ordering the RP high flow cat. I am hoping to have it in the next day or two. I am a car noob, but I really want to install this myself (more of a self accomplishment thing.) Has anyone done this before and could give me some pointers or help? I read that it was a fairly simple bolt on part, but I am not sure.
Also with my 8 having 80k+ miles on it and having recently bought it (not knowing how well it was kept,) I was wondering if I should take it to a dealer and have them do a tune up on it. Does this sound like a good thing to do?
rx8snowboard 06-09-2008, 12:39 AM Yeah, I got the warranty thing with the DVD ( very entertaining :) ).
kobe24mvp 06-09-2008, 03:38 AM I live in sandy too, like 20th east and 90th south about, but im down in provo for school right now. I'm usually up there over the weekend though. I have a black one so hollar if you see me! lately ive been driving my bmw though cause it does better on gas!
Jethro Tull 06-09-2008, 11:08 AM And to all, let's try to have a meet this weekend. How about it.
Father's Day is next Sunday, so I can't get away that day. Saturday is a firm maybe. Friday night we're going to the Bees game so that's out.
I was the only 8 at the SL Rotary meet on Saturday- where were all you guys? You missed your chance to see a 3-rotor engine.
I couldn't stay for the BBQ, but met up with a couple of guys I first met nearly 30 years ago. We had first gen. RX-7's back then.
Today was so nice I drove my 8 to work. It's not a daily driver, though, so tomorrow I'm back to the Explorer.
Jethro Tull 06-09-2008, 11:12 AM You guys rcv. a warranty ext. in the mail? It says that the warranty is extended to 8 yrs. 100k miles. Let me know if you guys got that.
Yep, got mine.
But it's not an extension of the entire engine and drivetrain warranty. The extension is for the engine core only. Meaning apex seals, really.
Jethro Tull 06-09-2008, 04:33 PM These are perfect for pre-mix. One whole bottle is enough premix for exactly 1/2 tank. They have a pointed spout to make it easy to add the oil to your gas tank.
I'm premixing at half the recommended rate, so one whole bottle is what I add to a full tank.
I have at least half a dozen of these, brand new, if any locals want them. First come, first served and I'll bring them to the next meet or cruise, or maybe I could meet you halfway somewhere if it's not too far.
They are FREE
Sorry I did not make it on Saturday, horrible hangover :( we should meet again soon, enjoy this short summer we are getting! GT LIVE is at the end of the month, lets get together with the rest of the local rotary owners and drive up there
Jethro Tull 06-09-2008, 11:07 PM Sorry folks, I won't be at GT LIVE. I got the days off work but it's our wedding anniversary- and my wife just isn't into cars at all. There's no way I can get away that weekend. Have fun, take pictures. :)
DariusDemon 06-10-2008, 10:01 AM I have a BB too and I used to live in sandy. I know i saw at least one of you guys alot. usually near 106th and 13th. Mines the one with the black/chrome rims and a batman sticker. Sound familiar?
I might be able to meet up this weekend. I at 8pm though fri and sat...i think....have to check on that.
I was in Texas over the weekend so I missed it, sounds like I missed a good one too, man that really grinds my gears.
Roxas, if you want I will come help you install that if you want other wise just pm me and I'll give you my number so you can call when you do need a pointer or whatever.
Jethro I will take one of those bottles just bring it to the next meet. I have been looking but couldn't find one.
I'm always driving around, darius what color is the 8 you see I go by 106 and 13th a couple times a day, I drive a SS with a loud exhaust.
rx8snowboard 06-10-2008, 03:40 PM I saw a silver 8 yesterday that was going south on 13th E. and turned up 106th. I don't think he/she saw me though, was that you bose?
Depends on what time it was, but it was most likely me I went by there three times but it was after 6.
rx8snowboard 06-10-2008, 05:00 PM Well, it sounds like saturday is going to be best for us to meet.. Where should we meet and what time is good for you guys?
rx8snowboard 06-10-2008, 05:03 PM Depends on what time it was, but it was most likely me I went by there three times but it was after 6.
I thought so, it looked pretty clean and I expect that anyone who is a member here keeps the 8 clean :mdrmed:
Yeah, It musta been me I had just washed it. and then it rains today always happens. Washing it again tomorrow.
Saturday I can meet anytime, maybe somewhere in Murray, central location for most I assume. Maybe grab some food and go on a cruise.
rx8snowboard 06-11-2008, 12:47 PM yup, gotta wash mine again :) I would rather meet early. Have you clogged your arteries on a baconator from McDonalds?
McDonald's has a baconator too. I've had the Wendy's baconater and holy shit that's alot of grease.
rx8snowboard 06-12-2008, 06:41 PM oops, I meant Wendy's. Yeah, lots of grease :) There was a silver 8 last night at century 16 that raced a little with me down 215, anyone?
wasn't me. So who's down for a meet tomorrow? Anyone going to the drag races at RMR tonight?
rx8snowboard 06-13-2008, 03:45 PM Oh, I forgot about RMR.. We should meet and then head over there. I can pretty much meet up anytime tomorrow
I'm down to meet before hand. I'll be down in Riverton about 119th s. and 9th w.
DariusDemon 06-13-2008, 09:00 PM Usually the 8's I see in sandy are BB like mine. Besides I've seen your car Bose, I'd know it if I saw it ;). I'd love o go to the drags tonight but I work :( I could do soemthing during the day tomorrow tohugh. I work at 8pm.
rx8snowboard 06-14-2008, 03:16 PM So who is up for a meet today?
DariusDemon 06-15-2008, 05:55 PM yeah im thinking we really need to do just set a date thats a decent way in the future so we dont keep doing this last minute scramble thing. That way every can be prepared and everyone can make it.

Welcome!
Funny you mention a new differential. I just read that on the '09's, Mazda has changed the differential ratio to help accelleration. I wonder if you could swap-out an old ring and pinion for the new set?
I may be up for a get-together this weekend. Even if we don't cruise we could meet for coffee or something.
04rx8gr 06-18-2008, 02:53 PM Id imagine you could swap theres not much to them. . . . and yes it does drasticly help :)
Jethro Tull 06-18-2008, 03:49 PM Id imagine you could swap theres not much to them. . . . and yes it does drasticly help :)
I replaced the ring & pinion on my '77 Plymouth Arrow for the same reason; at the time MoPar had the part available and it did make a noticeable difference on that car (that was before all of you were born, lol), along with the cute little header I put on it.
I guess if the '09 RX-8 is identical in all other respects, it would be a straight swap in our cars. But pricey.
It's also critical to get them installed perfectly. If the gear mesh isn't just right, the gears will "sing" as you drive. The faster you drive, the louder the noise. This indicates excessive wear- and that accoustical energy also means heat is being generated, and a small amount of power loss.
04rx8gr 06-18-2008, 04:01 PM Yea . . .it would prob be way pricey from them!
Yeah I meant weekend after next, it is the 28-29th. But this weekend gonna be great weather maybe we could meet saturday during the day and go to Molly Greens and grab a beer and a bite? It will be a great drive, anyone?
04rx8gr 06-18-2008, 06:35 PM I have my car show in southern utah fri and sat so sun is my only available day. .. haha and No bueno on the Beer!!! haha Im only 19 and dont have a fake id. . .
Ah yes that could be a problem, damn youngin's. :lol2: Oh well we should grab a bite somewhere else then do a canyon run is all I'm sayin.
04rx8gr 06-19-2008, 11:17 AM lol,, , But ya it should be a decent run .. sounds so far like there should be alot of people going. We were thinking meet up around 2 or 230 then take the run. .. ( dont worry we can eat sometime in there haha):lol2:
DariusDemon 06-19-2008, 12:05 PM I just went canyon carving up east canyon with my buddy in his S2000. That was a blast. East canyon looks like friggin Scotland from the top right now.
Sweet, is your buddie s2k yellow? I got beat up big cottonwood by one a couple months ago, bloody things are light and quick.
Saturday around 2? works for me, don't really care if/when we eat just somthing to do. I'm more for the driving anyways.
04rx8gr-did you do the limited slip and clutch yourself? I want to swap final drives but don't want to deal with outrageous labor costs.
04rx8gr 06-19-2008, 02:54 PM I do all my own work. . . . :) paying someone is useless! :):bootyshak
Nice, my sentiments exactly. My only problem is I don't have all the know how...yet. I'm looking at two swaps currently may need to employ your knowledge, if you don't mind.
Jethro Tull 06-19-2008, 03:12 PM I disagree, gents.
My time is a lot more valuable than a mechanic's shop rate. Additonally, I always choose someone who offers some kind of guarantee in the event of a problem. Thirdly, I won't put myself into a possible warranty voiding situation with a car this new. If I wanted a new differential gearing, for example, I'd buy Mazda and have Mazda put it in, thus preserving my warranty.
I've had my car 15 months, and still only have 5800 miles on it. I'm going to take the warranty to the limit on time, not mileage. I paid a lot of money for an extended warranty- 8 years, 100,000 miles, for EVERYTHING- not just the "engine core" warranty extension.
So if I get the urge to mod it before then, it's going to be with Mazdaspeed parts, at a Mazda dealership.
Mike, I know you are down on dealership service, but you just admitted yourself that you lack the experience. What are your options if you massively screw something up that you did yourself? "Joe Rotary" who owns two RX-7's and has been doing it for years might be willing to help you drop something in, but is he willing to buy a replacement for you when the first one blows-up?
04rx8gr 06-19-2008, 03:35 PM Some of our cars dont have that low of miles like mine haha i have 80 K so i really dont care haha Plus i have my 2yr degree in automotive repair :) But more power to you . . I bought my car to mod the heck outta it not just drive it :)
Jethro Tull 06-19-2008, 03:56 PM Oh, I understand. When I was your age, I spent a lot of time upgrading my car, too. And it was fun then, I have to admit it.
People change as they get older. Probably only one in a hundred of the young people who like to work on their cars will still be enthusiastic about it when they turn 50. You'll see, your priorities might change, too. My next-door neighbor is a professional mechanic. Makes good money at it, too. But he refuses to work on cars on his own time now, won't do it at ALL, lol. Pisses him off to have to even put a new set of plugs in his engine. Says he'd rather be in his boat, on the lake. He doesn't even own a car, just an F350 pickup that he only uses to tow his fifth-wheel and boat around. He never drives that truck for anything else. Seven years old and still looks brand new.
Out of curiosity, how many hours did you spend studying the rotary engine in your 2-year program? Was it local? SLCC?
Yeah, I may not have all the know how yet, but I will in time and at this point Chuck I have no choice anyways, I have NO warranty so if ANYTHING breaks I'm on my own anyways. And I don't wanna pay for Mazda parts=twice the cost.
So to each their own. If I had a warranty I may feel differently but...:icon_no2:
04rx8gr 06-20-2008, 12:16 PM actually studied 6 months in class and then just everyday learning more things as i go on :) But hey I need to know whos all going so we dont leave anyone behind on Sunday, We are going to meet at 2:00 PM at Sugarhouse Park, If you dont know where that is ask for :eyetwitch Directions I NEED A HEAD COUNT !!
Im in for Sunday @2. Sugarhouse Park...check. Did you go to SLCC? Or somwhere else?
04rx8gr 06-20-2008, 02:55 PM Went to Snow collage Richfield! haha
Sweet, I'm starting my two year program this fall at SLCC.
So is anyone else coming to them meet.?
04rx8gr 06-20-2008, 03:55 PM No one seems to be responding. . . maybe we can just meet up and go grab coffee or some shit. . . haha
DariusDemon 06-20-2008, 04:02 PM i live 2 feet away from sugarhouse park. I'm down with a 2 o' clock meet on sunday;) Oh and no my friends S2k is red.
right on fella's well I'll keep checkin' back to see if anyone else is coming, but I'm down with whatever. Where in the park should we meet?
rx8snowboard 06-20-2008, 07:17 PM I could probably make it on sunday for a little while, im in :)
04rx8gr 06-20-2008, 07:28 PM Sweet the more the better! !! and we will just meet at the first parking lot and line up and get some pics!
RoXas585 06-20-2008, 08:35 PM Sorry guys I wont be able to make it. I would love to, but my 8 is not working...yet again. It runs fine for about 20 minutes, but once you come to a full stop and accelerate in first gear, it dies. Wont start again for 20-30 minutes of sitting. Back to the shop on monday.
BTW bose is the freaking coolest guy around. He helped me install my new high flow cat which was an incredible chore for such an easy task. The bolts were all fused on which made getting the old one off next to impossible. I owe you man.
Not a problem bro. I'm down to help anyone when possible, especially with car stuff.
Cool on the meet my buddy wants to come in his wrx as well.
04rx8gr 06-21-2008, 03:57 PM Anyone is welcome!!! but it we plan on meeting at 2 then leaving around 3 so :)
Jethro Tull 06-22-2008, 01:27 AM Guys, I'll sure try and be at Sugarhouse Park at 2. I guess just look for the pack of Mazdas, eh? ;)
No guarantees. The wife and kid are pretty good at deciding what my time should be spent on. (grumble...)
Remember that I-80 has that bridge-moving thing going-on that day, so it will be only one lane in each direction. I think I'll take a surface street if I can get away.
My car needs a good wash & detail right now, but what the heck. Maybe I'll do it when I get back from the park.
Mike, I'll bring your premix bottle if I come.
cool sounds like a few more want to come. I may not be there til like 230-245, I spaced that it's my nephew's b-day so I will be coming from Herriman and may be a bit late, hope I don't miss the fun, hopefully see you there.
Sounds good Chuck, no worries if you can't.
Gr8White 06-22-2008, 04:32 PM Anyone in or around the Layton area? Just picked picked up an '07 and looking for people to show me the ins and outs of the car.
Jethro Tull 06-22-2008, 05:40 PM Anyone in or around the Layton area? Just picked picked up an '07 and looking for people to show me the ins and outs of the car.
Welcome, Gr8White!
I'm in West Valley, but I think there are a couple of guys in the Ogden area. We just had a little get-together in Salt Lake, at Sugarhouse Park today. You should drive down for the next one, hopefully in July.
I have an '07 too, 5800 miles. Weekend car, garaged in winter. Sunlight Silver.
I'm guessing yours is white? :)
Jethro Tull 06-22-2008, 05:42 PM Good to see a few local rotary owners today, anyway!
Let's plan one for July, give everyone time to plan ahead.
Darius, did you show-up after I had to take off?
04rx8gr 06-22-2008, 10:52 PM It was nice meeting a few of you even tho ya guys didnt go on the drive it was a very nice ride! and alot of fun maybe next time!!
Nice to meet some enthusiasts yesterday. I had too much going on yesterday to go on the drive although I really wanted too.
We should plan somthing for either the 24th of July or the weekend following, maybe a BBQ, followed by a drive up east canyon or somthing yeah? let me know, we should really get it organized so we can have a excellent meet.
04rx8gr 06-23-2008, 11:19 AM If we got more people from this group wanting to do something then i wouldnt have to mesh groups. . . . So maybe sometime!! :)
Jethro Tull 06-23-2008, 11:41 AM Let's keep the SLCRotary group in the loop. Nice people.
But those Chevy's and Fords and assorted rice... I dunno...lol
04rx8gr 06-23-2008, 01:15 PM Sorry about it .. .. I just figured it would be nice to meet new people and go for a drive. . . Guess I was wrong . . . But to tell you the truth Mazda is partly owned by ford haha so not quite sure why you rebel against them haha. . . BUT to each his own if you guys can get a turn out of 10 or more I Would be more than happy to devote my time and tag along but when there is only 3 . . . . not quite sure it would of been a great meet. . . . But there is my insight and hope we have future meets . . . With great rotary turn outs.
Jethro Tull 06-23-2008, 02:35 PM I'm just kidding, 04.
Ford owns the largest single percentage of Mazda stock, actually- they pull a lot of strings there. Last I read, it was about 33%. I also own a Ford as my DD.
I'm an old rotary engine enthusiast from way back. My first was an '80 RX-7 that I bought brand-new in late '79. Loved that car! So I would prefer to meet with other rotary folks, but it's not a hard and fast rule. As long as the piston people don't start insulting us, no problem.
The rotary women are better looking, though! :)
04rx8gr 06-23-2008, 02:57 PM That is very true they are much better looking. . . haha we are all car enthusiests they know not to dis a rotary ive straightend that up haha!! Its all good if we got more rotarys to meet up then i would but no one really responded so i asked my main group to join. . . Rocky mountain ecotec is one of the main sponsored clubs from Rocky Mountain Raceway . . Hence why I joined haha
Gr8White 06-23-2008, 03:47 PM yeah, the car is pearl colored, makes for a pretty sight in the sun. I saw you guys had a meet not too long ago and after seeing the photos, I wish i had known about it sooner. I'll be looking forward to the next meet.
DariusDemon 06-23-2008, 05:43 PM Bah! I totally spaced it! That sucks! Sorry guys. I coulda brought my S2K buddy too! at least for that one ;). Anyway sorry I'll be at the next one for sure and hopefully Roxas will be up and running again too.
04rx8gr 06-23-2008, 06:20 PM Hey for those of you that wanna see the pics of the ride here they are
http://www.rockymountainecotec.net/index.php?topic=838.0
rx8snowboard 06-23-2008, 07:44 PM sorry I didn't make it guys, I ended up getting a house and signing some papers :) Looks like I will be on 3600 south and 13th east from now on, yay!
WreakLoosE 06-23-2008, 09:08 PM Utah??? what is that noise??? The earth trembles??? You got that feeling again???? OH its just me...
Hay guys... About 2 weeks ago I was driving on my way home from a new job I just started and enjoying the feel of a Turbo in my wrx but feeling upset that when i look arround the cabin it feels like im driving a tercel, then I feel the earth shake and hear an oh so familiar rumble in the air and look up to see heading my way... MY OLD RX8... so I flip a BI**H and I follow the car and end up at some recycling center in Ogden. I got a chance to see my old baby.. I felt her up told her I missed her.. Spoke to the guy who owned her. It was very nice to see it again. Looked the same way as I left her.. a ton more rock chips on the aero flare kit but no dents etc. the Carbon Fiber hood could use some wax but it wasnt too bad. It was very nice to see my old car and to say HI. I was able to con my wife into letting me get another RX8, but I have to get rid of the WRX and I feel its not a bad traid off. I have been searching and planning how my new RX8 will be so maybe soon I can get a new RX8 im still looking to find one used so if you guys know anybody selling a used one (black) let me know.
Jethro Tull 06-24-2008, 11:34 AM Good to hear from you, Big T!
That would be weird, seeing a beloved car that I had to sell.
Hopefully you'll be back in an 8 soon!
Expand your search, a lot of places will ship a car to you for a reasonable fee, or you could bring it home yourself. Good reason for a road trip!
Yeah what's up T? You could try carmax and search nationally, I know they ship vehicles across the nation for a reasonable fee, maybe worth checking out. Other than that I will keep my eyes peeled.
kobe24mvp 06-24-2008, 10:13 PM Hey for those of you that wanna see the pics of the ride here they are

here's a couple pics that we got
Jethro Tull 06-25-2008, 01:05 AM Guys, I just found out that a guy I've known and worked with professionally for 20 years- he runs a thermoforming faciltiy, I run a pattern and mold shop for composites- is the dad of one of the main computer gurus at Cobb Tuning! No kidding!
Small world!
That's cool, apparently Cobb just got a new tuner named John, and from the stuff I'm hearing it's a good thing for all.
04rx8gr 06-25-2008, 11:14 AM I just did that run sunday! its a blast!

here's a couple pics that we got
I think I saw you driving around. . . If that was you, You should have joined :spank:
kobe24mvp 06-26-2008, 02:27 AM Probably was me. I've only seen one other white z4 around besides mine and there's not another silver coupe like that in utah from what ive seen and heard
How about this fan-fuggin-tastic weather we are getting.:) I know I'm bloody stoked. Getting some new wheels and tires either tommorrow :fingersx: or monday.
Anyone else getting any new goodies this summer?
04rx8gr 06-30-2008, 12:22 PM You lucky guy! I was about to get new wheels but well guess what I got KEYED last night so now I have to spend all my money on a damn insurance deductable. . . THey got my whole hood and down both sides. . . I dont get peoples concept because I dont have any Enemys here :(
That is rancid, I think it's random, just people hating on what they can't have. Someone smeared cookie dough on my car, and no one know's where I live so, and I don't have any enemies either so I'm chaulking it up to jelousy.
I got to ride in a mx-5 drift car this weekend at GT Live, all I can say is holy shit. it should be a ride at a theme park, biggest rush of all time.
I stole this off of the slc rotary forum, maybe instead of a meet on the 24th or somthing we should make it for one/both of these days. NOPI, carshow, drags, drift competition. July 18th and 19th, at RMR. Let make a huge showing.
04rx8gr 07-01-2008, 04:18 PM Im going to be at a car show on the 19 :( hmm that is if my car is fixed by then
Really, where is the car show at? I want to go to any and everything car related I can.
04rx8gr 07-01-2008, 06:09 PM Young chevrolet haha But its to get people to come to there huge sale. . . yup yup will be interesting and I won at the bountiful car show so they asked me to come
Jethro Tull 07-02-2008, 12:10 AM I want to go to any and everything car related I can.
Lately I find myself distracted by Bikini Bowling.
I wish more stuff like this would come to Salt Lake.
So is it like a whole car show or how does that work, can anyone enter?
I watched some of that last night, seriously. It was pretty good, there's an ally up in Oregon, you can pay to play with bikini clad bowlers pretty great.
And btw, I got my new rims and tires on. Here's a link to my other thread, stop by leave your remarks or not, whatever.
http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=149672
04rx8gr 07-02-2008, 12:48 PM Its a special entry :( My car is all phunked up so if mines not done by then we can always put yours in the place of mine :)
oh well right on. I guess we'll see what happens, yeah.
Jethro Tull 07-08-2008, 01:17 PM Several times now, I've passed a nice-looking young girl with short, platinum hair in a red 8, going north on Redwood road. I'm going south at about 4:15 or 4:30, and she's going north and we pass on between the Flying J truck stop and Center Street in North Salt Lake.
Anybody?
IT'S MEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
j/k, but seriously I see way more 8's on the streets nowadays and mostly youngin's driving them, why are they not on the damned forums!
Jethro Tull 07-09-2008, 02:22 PM Hey guys, in a few weeks I'll have some sets of the "angry guppy"-looking eyelids for sale. I'll only have a few sets and I don't want to have to mail them all over, so I'm not going to list them in the regular FS section. I'd rather that locals get them. They come unpainted and are attached with double-sided foam tape.
PM me if interested.
Well well well, anyone up for small meet this weekend? NOPI is holding their car show, drag, drift event this weekend at RMR. So that could be an option.
But let's talk about the meet next weekend, is anyone still down. what should we do. I'm thinking either the 26th or 27th, we could have a BBQ, or grab a bite, but most importantly somewhere we can park, take pics, show off under the hood, all that fun shit. So let's get some real numbers of who can show up and what you want to do.
Jethro Tull 07-14-2008, 04:03 PM I'm pouring my new concrete patio on Friday, and working on the basement pretty much all weekend. I think we're going to see Hellboy 2 on Saturday night.
I probably can't make a cruise this weekend. :eyetwitch
DariusDemon 07-15-2008, 08:36 AM You had me at BBQ
rx8snowboard 07-16-2008, 03:41 PM I wont be able to meet this weekend, my 8 is in the shop because I have some grinding at high rpm's shifting into 2,3, and 4 :(
DariusDemon 07-17-2008, 05:54 AM Well I cant do it this weekend either but I thought we were talking about next weekend
I'm gauging to see if anyone wanted to do somthing this weekend, NEXT weekend I want to do the BBQ or somthing but we need more than 3 people to show.
