Jethro Tull 11-10-2007, 04:17 PM There's recall for the leaky tail-light. Shouldn't cost you anything at a dealership. Supposedly they fixed it for '06 & '07. Mine are still high-and-dry.
My wife's made other plans for me today, guys. I have to have firm plans at least a day in advance for it to work for me- my days are never unstructured unless I'm on vacation.
We need to set a date and time a couple of weeks in advance, to give everyone a chance to plan for it.
Next time I guess, sorry!
MILITARYMAN 11-10-2007, 05:13 PM listen its three already i am down to do this meet but we need to decide we can wait till 6 but it needs to be a lighted place this is my cell 801 502 7827 call me or text me so we can all make plans we need to hurry!!!
WreakLoosE 11-11-2007, 10:15 AM Take it to Mazda it should be a warranty issue.
WreakLoosE 11-11-2007, 10:58 AM Ok.. Guys... Its a Wrap for me... after a year and a half with my galaxy, my wife got her way and I had to trade in my love (De Ocho.) I have 3 kids so the 8 does not fit my whole family. A couple of weeks ago my wife's SUV had to be in the shop for 4 days and we where all stuck at home because my car cannot fit everybody... This was the straw that killed the camel. Her simple point on "it does not fit the family" (in a nagging naisley voice) was her trump card that I could not beat. Also in light of our situation with her car and all. I could not overcome the power and visiousness of this argument, and the evil intent on how and when she made that attack on us. (the 8 and myself) In a long painfull battle of words with "The Hammer" (my wife) I fell in battle as my love (de Ocho) was stripped from my cold dead hands. I was dispatched by the skill in wich she swung the Broad sword she yealded whos blade was etched with her arguement. Needless to say, this evil cold hearted woman was successful on her conquest to take my happiness out back into the woods and shoot it dead, with all her furious anger and smight. So now...."eyes welling up with tears" I had to swap the Rx8 in for a 06 WRX. Something that fits our whole family, All wheel drive for the UT weather, and still as a little coolness factor ya know turbo and what not."sniffle sniffle" It does pull a bit harder than the 8 and still fun to drive. (now trying to further comfort myself) But the interior does not hug the driver like the 8 and now I got a buncha Knobs and Needles to look at no longer the cool push button works and digital speedo dials that conveniently show the number of the miles per hour you are cursing for that lazy driver who does not want an estimate of how fast we are going because that stupid needle dial is between the dashes. (eyes welling up with tears again) So I now say Goodby to my love de ocho and I hope and pray none of you fall victem to the onslawt of that arguement in your own happiness with your 8's.
So now for the good part for my fellow UT 8 drivers. I now have for sale
Greddy SP2 Exhaust with Supercat (resonated)
Agency Power Under Drive Pulley (Silver)
AEM CAI (silver)
If you are looking for a nice performance upgrade for your 8 will sell all of this for 500 bux..
regular exhaust price is like 500 CAI is like 200 Supercat is 390 and Power Pulley is 140. All parts are in like new condition and have less than 10k miles on them.
I also have my Stock RX8 rims with lugs and locks and full tread on the tires
Front lip Shine Auto (Burnout V2 front lip) this is a nice lip made of PRF so it is very durable better than fiberglass and will not warp or sag like poly. It is painted Galaxy Grey there are no cracks just scratches on the bottom out of site. Some rock chips very Few and small.
For you guys who have hoods that may have some dents and dings I have my stock hood in perfect shape. That may need to be painted to match your car color unless you have a galaxy grey 8 like I once had...(ahh...good times good times)
If any of u guys are interested in my loss of the 8 and want to keep my car alive a little bit. IM me. I need money bad to stop the new WRX from being all stock.. EWWWWW!

Yeah, that's the ticket, it's running free on a farm in the country.....
S
Jethro Tull 11-11-2007, 02:36 PM Wreak- All is not lost! The whole family CAN fit in the 8.
You forgot about the trunk. Just pop-out the door between the back seats, and your wife will get plenty of air back there.
Tough break, man. I almost cried when I read your post.
Jethro Tull 11-11-2007, 02:42 PM Wreak, is a third car out of the question? I have a beat, rustbucket '91 Explorer as my daily driver. The insurance on that thing is minimal, it actually gets better mileage than my 8. Can't you find an old Saturn station wagon somewhere that would fit the bill?
Dude, stay on the Website. At worst, you may be able to pick up another 8 in a couple of years.
WreakLoosE 11-11-2007, 03:04 PM Yea Jethro, I will still be arround and want to meet with you guys after all I am a car guy..I wanted to get a little civic or something for like 1000-1500 because I know hondas like the back of my hand so if anything came up I can fix it.. But on wens. My wife got laid off because her boss passed away and the company went under so I cant spend the doe on another car.. and the gas on the 8 was killing me I drive from Roy to SLC everyday and spend almost 100 bux a week in gas... But I hope I can pay this car down very quickly and buy another 8 I might get a Red one or Black one I dont know... But I will be driving an 8 later.. I dont even care if its a used one.... But I will deff. be on a website as normal..
Jethro Tull 11-11-2007, 04:35 PM WreakLoosE, check your PM's.
seriouscoin1 11-11-2007, 06:31 PM Can you post some pics of the stuff for sale I as well have a galaxy grey.
seriouscoin1 11-12-2007, 12:29 PM Also interested in tires, I need 2 of them badly. Also I am sorry for your loss wreakloose. Probably feels like loosing a kid, but on the bright side wrx's are very good cars. That would be my next choice, love that boxer engine with a good exhaust. Sounds so good.
WreakLoosE 11-12-2007, 02:32 PM Hay guys thanks for the support... IF the hammer lets me.. I plan on trying to do a little to the WRX.. but for now...I will try and gets some pictures up today...
MILITARYMAN 11-13-2007, 02:41 PM hey guys too bad about your car wreakloose, hey i am looking for a job that pays better then twelve an hour to pay for the 8 and the fam if any one has any ideas let me know
Jethro Tull 11-13-2007, 02:46 PM Wreak, if we ever do a drive in our 8's, you can be my navigator (if Mrs. Tull stays home).
WreakLoosE 11-15-2007, 02:00 PM LOL sounds good.
(-White Ninja-) 11-15-2007, 10:42 PM Hey, Got My licisened Supended.. Lol i guess im done with my 8 for a while any one no anyone that wants to Buy you. Im rebuilding a integra. to pass my no driving time. and buyin a 8 Next year
Jethro Tull 11-15-2007, 11:33 PM ^^What the hell happened? DUI? You're selling the 8 because you're hoofing it for a while? How long? Dude!
Jethro Tull 11-15-2007, 11:36 PM WreakLoosE, I'll be seeing you tomorrow afternoon. I have your addy and cell number in case I get lost...I DIDN'T get the nav system, LOL.
BTW, I was at Bountiful Mazda this afternoon. They have a nice white 8 with the 6-speed, BN '07, for only $23,700!!
Year-end is the ONLY time to buy a BN car. If I had waited 8 months I could have saved $8,000. Of course, I wouldn't have gotten the color I wanted, and the stereo isn't the Bose system, but still...
Jethro Tull 11-15-2007, 11:40 PM hey guys too bad about your car wreakloose, hey i am looking for a job that pays better then twelve an hour to pay for the 8 and the fam if any one has any ideas let me know
Wish I'd known a couple of months ago. I just hired a kid back in July and he's getting 14 right now. Good luck!
(-White Ninja-) 11-17-2007, 02:25 PM Nah Not a DUI. i Have had to many tickets.. 2 Recluse driving tickets. 1 6 Over ticket, and 1 not blinker ticket it.
I am Going to a meet On Monday to Decide How long...
When i Called they said the least it will be is 6 months.
Word to the Wise..
if you going to race do it smart.
do make my mistake and Get cought.
Its really not worth the Rush.
Jethro Tull 11-17-2007, 03:46 PM Street racing just isn't worth it, especially when we have a terrific facility like the Motor Sports Park right here in northern Utah. You can race for REAL, get lessons from PRO'S, race on a real track, not endanger the general public-
AND NOT LOSE YOUR LICENSE!
Your insurance is going to go up, too. Gonna hit you right in the wallet.
MILITARYMAN 11-19-2007, 02:57 PM THANKS let me know if anything comes up
(-White Ninja-) 11-19-2007, 03:57 PM I Know.. RMR will be my new home when i get it back
Jethro Tull 11-21-2007, 12:27 AM Wondering if any old posters from this thread are still around in Utah? This sticky has been dead for 15 months.
Jethro Tull 11-21-2007, 12:29 AM So, who's still on the road?
Who is garaging their 8's for the winter, and who is going to brave the Utah roads for the next 3 months?
I'm gonna be snow drifting it up first winter in a rear wheel drive vehicle, used to have a protege and it did well, except for the first time I ever drove in snow. Just gonna throw some bizzaks on her or somthing.
Jethro Tull 11-21-2007, 11:20 PM I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving Day. I've been particularly blessed for most of my life, and believe me, I am grateful for it. Never got rich, but then you don't measure blessings in riches.
This car is just icing on the cake! And tomorrow I get to show it off to relatives!
DariusDemon 11-22-2007, 03:13 PM Well jeeze I'm trying to support my 8 on 10/hr right now! Let me know next time you have and opening Jethro! What is it you do?
Jethro Tull 11-22-2007, 04:14 PM Light manufacturing. Mostly fiberglass, some wood and metal.
I manage the tooling department and only have seven in my group, but in production there are over 100 employees. I oversee composite pattern, tool, and mold fabrication for the company.
Most "line" people are only hired through a temp. agency and have to get through a probationary period of at least 3 months before getting hired as full-time, regular employees- and the temp agency pays squat. My department only hires skilled people with experience so I can waive the probationary temp. requirement in most cases. The problem is, my department has very low turnover. Most of my staff has been with me for nearly 20 years.
But if there's an opening, I'll surely let you know.
DariusDemon 11-23-2007, 12:51 PM wow...cool thanks ;)
Jethro Tull 12-01-2007, 08:27 PM Today I shoveled my 100-foot-long double-wide driveway for the first time this season. There was 6" of snow down next to the street but it was drifted closer to 8" up next to the house. It's a great workout. I told my wife that I wasn't getting a snow-blower until I needed one.
The 8 is snug in the garage for the winter. I put 6-mil plastic down on the concrete floor as a moisture barrier, and a double-layer of carpet over that, so the tires won't develop a flat spot. I have a cover but haven't put it on yet. I need to get some CD's out of the Bose this weekend.
I found a set of 4 stock rims and sent-off a MO yesterday. Hopefully they'll be here by about the 10th. I am going to get an extra set of TPMS transmitters for them in January, and then shop for a second set of tires that are better than the Dunlops I'm running now. Hopefully quieter too. I want to keep my car visibly stock and really like the stock rims anyway, but they are $495 ea. from Mazda BN, so I've been shopping. The set I bought is used but in BN condition with no curb rash, and I only paid $170 ea. It will be interesting to see how different tires feel when the car comes out of retirement in March.
I put new tires on the Ford a couple of weeks ago and after today's snow, I'm glad I did. The rear tires were almost bald.
So, it has begun. I'm in the old Explorer for the next 90 days or so, until the spring rains come and wash away the road salt. Gonna be a loooong, boring 3 months, as far as driving is concerned. :eyetwitch
DariusDemon 12-02-2007, 03:15 PM I just spent $750 on some new all season tires. They'd better do the trick! So far so good...
Jethro Tull 12-02-2007, 04:08 PM Which tire did you get?
I've heard that about 200 lbs. of weight (sandbags) in the trunk will help get you more traction.
MILITARYMAN 12-07-2007, 03:01 PM yah i bought new tires for the 8 and it seems to be doin the trick
alos i was lookin for some cheep mods that will make it faster, look better and sound better anyone that has any ideas or stuff the are selling let me know
not nessicarily cheap but wheels and tires are a great way to do both. Look good and add performance. Just make sure the tires you get are at least 8.5 or up cause you get that much more rubber on the ground=better handling, getting the same 8 in wide tire won't do anything for handling but will look cool. But also keep in mind wider tires are going to up the $$$. that's one way to do both, the rest are obvious intake, exhaust, pulley's, but don't expect a whole lot of hp gains from these, the only really good way to seriously up the hp is to go FI. Hope that helps.
Jethro Tull 12-09-2007, 03:32 AM We should start thinking about some kind of spring or early summer cruise pretty soon, so everyone can plan for it.
I'm thinking of maybe a cruise to Wendover, lunch, then back home. Sometime April, May, or June. I'd thought about an overnighter at a casino, but I can't bring myself to leave my 8 overnight in a parking lot, especially around all those drunk gamblers who may have lost more than they could afford to and carry a grudge out the door with them as they stumble to their own cars or the Fun Bus.
We could take spouses/significant others if we wanted.
Who's up for it? Even if you're not old enough to gamble, they'll still let you in for lunch.
DariusDemon 12-11-2007, 03:20 PM hmm I'm always down for a dover run! However I still think a canyon run is in order at some point in the future too. If we're going to put our 8's together we might as have them do what they're meant to do, put them where they're meant to be. And that's in the corners. Hey Military man, one thing you can do if you want sound is get newer model K&N air intake. I bought mine with it already installed and honestly that's one of the reasons I bought it. That sound... It's freakin music. If you want I'll meet you somewhere sometime and you can hear it for yourself. Oh and as for gains in horsepower, like I said I bought it like that so If there is a noticable difference with it installed I couldn't tell you what it is. As for visuals/performance, I think my next mod will be cross drilled and slotted rotars. I love how those look and I've already got the rims to show them off. They're also cheap
Jethro Tull 12-11-2007, 05:08 PM I'm up for a canyon run, too- but not until the snow is melted and the roads aren't half wet from run-off.
I'm off the road completely until March at the earliest.
MILITARYMAN 12-12-2007, 03:02 PM i already have wheels tires exhaust i need to find a good intake and some pullys maybe. I really want to go turbo or something but need somebody in the know!!! that wants to help.also i am down for a drive anytime
seriouscoin1 12-12-2007, 06:01 PM I just had a big scare! I checked my dip stick and had some foamy cappuccino type stuff on it. Thought I blew something. Talked to the mazda tech at bountiful mazda. He told me that happens alot with rotary motors. The condensation goes to the tube the dipstick is in and stays. That scared the s$@% outa me!
DariusDemon 12-12-2007, 06:54 PM lol Yeah I had that when I checked mine the other day too
There are several intake out, seaching is a good way to find all of them. I have the AEM intake, which is the exact same as the mazdaspeed, If you want a really easy install these are not the ones you want, then there is the racing beat intake, k&n typhoon version 2, HKS has a really sick one but cost is up there. Arc make an induction box that looks really nice but again $$$.
As far a pulleys go there is a sticky in the mods section that has all of them, I only know of the unorthodox set, the agency power underdrive pulley. Hope that helps.
I had the same froth on my dipstick and i was like :scratchhe found out it happens all the time with rotary engines, happened to the rx7 too. They have a fix for it but mazda wants to charge 650 for it, and since it doesn't hurt anything I will just deal with it, I can still check my oil sooo...
MILITARYMAN 12-13-2007, 02:48 PM ok that helps do you like your intake how does it sound? did it give any noticable power differance?
I didn't notice huge power gain really, little more responsive throttle, feels like it has a bit more pull from 3-5 than before, and once I get up into the 6500 and up it gets really loud, but it sounds really throaty, very good IMO. before I put the Greddy exhaust on people thought I already had one on.
Phil's 8 12-14-2007, 10:22 AM Well jeeze I'm trying to support my 8 on 10/hr right now! Let me know next time you have and opening Jethro! What is it you do?
What do you do? What experience do you have?
DariusDemon 12-15-2007, 03:40 AM Well at the time I posted that I was working for bull frog spas as a reciever. But I just got certified today as an armed guard. So we'll see how that goes. However I'll still only be making $10/hr. Experience wise, the only work I've done since Highschool until now was delivery and warehouse jobs. I've got experience on pretty much every kind of warehouse "vehicle" there is.
Phil's 8 12-15-2007, 03:13 PM Ok - I'm looking for Controls Technicians for combustion equipment, welders and Pipefitters. Of course you'd be forced to relocate to Vegas. It was chance that you had some experience that I needed for my company and me having a good paying job for you.
Just like Jethro, most of the people working for me have been been with me for 10 years or more but growth is killing me.
Jethro Tull 12-15-2007, 04:06 PM Well at the time I posted that I was working for bull frog spas as a reciever
That's interesting. I know a couple of the higher-ups at Bullfrog. Alex, who was either president or VP last time I talked to him, and Steve (Fliesher). Been awhile since I talked to them, though. It's been since before they moved into the new factory.
Jethro Tull 12-16-2007, 10:43 PM Hey, to all the local SLC/northern Utah area 8 owners- I've kind-of moved to the "other" RX-8 Website for my regular hang-out, and will only be checking-in here a few times a month. If you ask me something through a PM on this Website it may take a week or two for me to reply. Some of you have my email and I'll reply to emails within a day or two. Let's definitely plan a good run for springtime!

(-White Ninja-) 12-24-2007, 12:05 AM Sup All long time no talk. last time we all talk just got my license suspended. but now i got it back. my 8 was sold. some guy made me a offer i couldn't give up. now im looking for a new car. all my friends Drive Civic Si's So i might join them in that how is everyone and there cars
Jethro Tull 12-26-2007, 12:36 AM Hey WL, WN, MM, DD, SC, bose. Well my 8's been in the garage for 25 days now, absolutely no snow, salt or sand has touched it. I've started it and warmed it up every few days. It starts right up without even touching the gas pedal. So one month is just about over and only two more to go. I can't wait for March; hopefully the DOT won't be salting roads by then and spring rains will wash the salt and sand away. I'm determined to not drive this car in winter unless it's an absolute emergency.
I got my second set of rims a few weeks ago and picked up a second set of center inserts. I got the chrome Mazda logo because the rotary centers are $37 apiece!
I'll be shopping for a better set of tires than the Dunlops in a month or two, as soon as I get my tax return back from my accountant and know if I have some play money (refund) or not. I want to get a second set of TPMS units too. Then I can swap tire sets myself right in my own garage.
Hope you guys all had a Merry Christmas and Santa brought you what you wanted!
Hey Jethro! Hope the withdrawls are getting better, just know that the 8 doesn't like the cold. Quick question for all does anyone know of a shop locally that know rotaries...other than the Mazda stealership? I don't trust the guys @ d dahle mazda of murray, they are asshats. I have a couple cels but don't wanna take it to those fools, please help if you can. Thank you in advance.
By the way the cel code that pulled we're.
p0126-insufficent temprature for stable operation-not getting to operating temp and. p0302-rear rotor misfire. I think this was caused by a spark plug wire had slipped off the plug last weekend I plugged it back in, but idk if the plug is completely fouled or not.
Opinions, comments, questions...please help.
Jethro Tull 12-28-2007, 02:39 AM I started it up tonight and warmed it up to operating temperature. Started right up. Let it run about 20 minutes until it was nice and toasty inside, listened to a CD, revved it up a few times and let it sit on 3000 for 15 seconds every minute or two for a few. Still clean as a whistle inside and out, just like it was when I parked it November 30th. Backed it out and rolled it forward a few times. Checked the tires and they haven't lost any air pressure in the month it's been parked. Oh, that reminds me, I have to re-plug the exhausts before I go to bed. Keeps the mice from getting ideas about setting-up housekeeping in the muffler...
seriouscoin1 12-31-2007, 06:45 PM bose, I actually just had to call mazda roadside. I started my car on christmas day and it threw a check engine. They towed it to D Dahle, and yes they are dousche's! They told me that the injector map settings were screwed all outa wak. Plus my plugs were all gunked up. So they reflashed it to the "'08 Calibration" what ever that is. It runs hella better now, almost smoother that when I bought it used. Just lettin ya know what happened to mine.
Jethro Tull 01-01-2008, 02:53 AM "My" dealership was Legacy Mazda, in Orem, but they are just too far away- and I found out that last fall they lost 3 techs. It was taking them forever to do the simplest stuff, like an oil change. 2 hours!
I'd heard about the problems with D. Dahle, so I switched to Bountiful Mazda- and found out that their general manager used to be my neighbor about ten years ago!
I'm sold on Bountiful Mazda now. They treat me like a king, listen carefully to what I have to say about the car, and are prompt. An added bonus is that it is very close to my office, so I can drop it off and they shuttle me to work and pick me up again when it's done.
No hassle at all that I bought the car at a different dealership. The service writer even noticed that I'd installed the clear corners and said it had no effect on the warranty because they are Mazda parts...and he liked the way it looked. They never even noticed the clears at Legacy.
DariusDemon 01-01-2008, 04:43 AM I had a check engine light come on awhile ago. took it to checker and they said it was because I was running lean. That didnt surprise me because I have an after market intake. I took it to D dahle just to make sure and they ran it through some kind of maintainance dealand passed it off as warranty even though they thought it was the intake too. So that was nice, However they said they wouldnt do it again lol. My engine light has been turning on and off again though recently and I havent had a chance to find out what it is yet. When the code said it was running lean the light was always on. I wonder if I'm getting the whole temperature probem too. After all I have to keep it parked outside in a car tent.
Good to hear they got her running, for SC. Maybe I need the new flash, I think I'll take Jethro's recommend for bountiful mazda and see if I need it and have them change my thermostat. Darius do you know what the codes were? My temprature one is p0126 but I can tell it's the thermostat cause it goes to just below the middle and then drops to a quarter and the goes up on my journey to work, I think my car was meant to live in Hawaii she despises the cold.
I've got plugs and coils just need to install them and then get the dealership to change the t-stat she'll be perfect again.
Jethro Tull 01-01-2008, 04:00 PM Bose, I'd be interested in seeing where your temp. gauge sits in summertime.
Mine has only been run about every week and I've never had any temp related issues. I'll be warming it up again this afternoon.
Tell us how Bountiful Mazda treats you.
DariusDemon 01-02-2008, 03:29 AM No I dont remember the code. Sorry
Well, the cel went off by itself the other day, I guess after a few drive cycles the ecu realized there was nothing wrong, changed the plugs, wires and coils and she runs better than when I picked her up. I'm just gonna monitor the temps and see if it returns.
Jethro, I'm not sure where she'll sit in the summer I got her in late september so I haven't driven her in hotter than 80.
Jethro Tull 01-03-2008, 05:54 PM When it's up to operating temp, my gague always sits at exactly the same place. The needle is about one and half ticks to the left of center. Never waivers, even when I drove it last summer in 100-degrees, with the AC cranked up.
tibetan_eskimo 01-03-2008, 11:05 PM Hey I live up in Logan, UT and bought my '06 new from Bountiful Mazda. I have free tires for life from them so I've been making the drive for service. I just wanted to say that their service department is fantastic, but like most places the salesman fed me a lot of lies and didn't put anything in writing except the stuff I really cared about. So a big thumbs up for the service department, but double thumbs down for the sales and financing knobs.
Jethro Tull 01-04-2008, 02:23 AM Post on this forum a day before you come "down" here next time, tibetan eskimo, and maybe we can get together.
I have the tires for life, too- but I bought a second set of rims and will be buying a second set of tires soon. The stock Dunlops sure seem loud to me. What tire are you running? How many miles have you got on them so-far?
tibetan_eskimo 01-04-2008, 10:39 PM Right now I'm running 17's with winter tires, the tires for life program I have an option of either the bridgestone potenza re040's or kumho ecsta's. I've heard really good things about the kumho's so i might try them even though they are the less expensive option for the dealer. The potenza's are really noisy also, I noticed the winter tires are far more quiet. I had about 11k on them before I swapped out for the winter tires.
Jethro Tull 01-06-2008, 12:48 AM Today after I shoveled the driveway, the sun came out and it dried-up in a couple of hours. I started the 8 and warmed it up, then backed it down the driveway (my driveway is over 80 feet long) and drove up and down a few times to limber everything up. The first few times I braked, the brakes squeaked but after a few fast stops, the squeak disappeared. Once it was at operating temperature and had been warm for a while, I backed down to the end of the driveway and revved it up, did a fast start headed for the garage. Left a nice 5 foot-long patch on the driveway! Then I wiped her down - took some brake dust off the rims, did the windows, and parked her back on the carpet. Stuffed the rags back up the exhaust and put the cover back on until next time, about a week.
I wish spring would hurry up and get here.
seriouscoin1 01-06-2008, 07:24 PM Well, I had to take mine back again and what do ya know the check engine was on again for p0610 ecm re-tuned incorrectly. Now it actually shut off and runs fine wierd tho!
Jethro Tull 01-07-2008, 12:14 AM I'm sure glad you got to keep your car, seriouscoin. Sounds like you've got a handle on the family finances.
seriouscoin1 01-09-2008, 09:45 PM So far the finances are okay. Still a little iffy! I also have the kumho ecsta's for the rear and the potenza's in front. The potenza's are noisy! Needed the rear sooner of course but will soon get the kumhos in the front.
Jethro Tull 01-15-2008, 02:24 PM So how often are you guys who are driving your 8 all winter washing your cars? Are you doing the underside, wheel-wells, and the engine compartment too?
Anybody use a wash/detailing service? How much?
I wash her at least once a week outside. in the engine bay she is still clean as a whistle from my engine compartment detail in late oct. underside I haven't done. need to though, I just want winter to go to hell.
Jethro Tull 01-17-2008, 12:36 AM OK guys, I couldn't stand it anymore and took my 8 out for an afternoon drive. The roads near home were dry and I picked a few with no salt. Got home from work, parked the Explorer and jumped in the 8. Warmed it up for a few minutes and then took off down the road!
This is what's been missing from life for the past month and a half. The car ran like a champ. I'm glad I kept the insurance in-force.
Just as the sun went down, I pulled back into the garage and put my baby back to bed for a few more weeks.
I can't wait for spring, when I can take it out just about anytime I want. But today definitely felt good to get behind the wheel again.
I love this car!
DariusDemon 01-17-2008, 08:55 AM I wash mine almost every friday, snow or shine. I usually switch off between doingit manually and doing the automatic for the under-side. My engine desperetly needs a washin though.
good to hear you got your fix. I just took my girl to bountiful mazda for the cel it came back. misfire rotor 2 even after plugs and coils we're change so now I'm gonna let the 'experts' look at it. I keep updated on here on how they are and so forth.
(-White Ninja-) 01-17-2008, 05:05 PM so when i sold mine I thought i would never get in the seat again but now my friend bought one pretty much just like mine. and i took it to the Ogden Bdo''s and boy did i open her up lol my after the drive my friend looked at me and all he could say was.. "Dude! What The Hell" lol now he claim i owe him new tires... Pssshhh. :evil_laug
Jethro Tull 01-18-2008, 12:14 AM ^^Did you have any flashbacks? lol!
Jethro Tull 01-19-2008, 01:05 AM If it's sunny and dry on Saturday (1/19), I'm going to drive the 8.
(-White Ninja-) 01-19-2008, 11:31 AM lol yeah i had flash back. lol it made me Miss my baby lol
Jethro Tull 01-20-2008, 12:15 AM I drove her tonight and it was GOOD.
The car never missed a beat. No way at all to tell that it's been hibernating for over 7 weeks. Pulled strong, idled smooth.
This car is happy when you drive it fast. So is the driver.
Snow tomorrow, my baby is tucked back in her bed.
Jethro Tull 01-20-2008, 12:17 AM I did notice, though, that the range on my key remote was about half of what it used to be. Probably time for a new battery. Anybody had to replace their remote battery yet?
(-White Ninja-) 01-20-2008, 01:51 PM Before i Sold my I Noticed the Range Start to die. and then it just Shut off lol so i went bought a new Battery and that didn't work the Remote must of went out.
seriouscoin1 01-20-2008, 11:46 PM Well the check engine popped on again, so D Dahle mazda is currently installing a new ECM. They gave me a new rental car though, its nice.
DariusDemon 01-21-2008, 06:48 AM mine keeps coming on and off! It drives me nuts cause it's never on when I actually have time to take it over
Bountiful Mazda says I need a new engine, and they won't cover it due to intake and exhaust. They are voiding my warranty, though The Magnuson Moss act says they have to prove my parts caused the problem, they refused and said it's my job to prove they didn't do it. ILLEGAL. So now I have to fight tooth and nail to try and get them to fix it. Oh and I found out they (bountiful mazda) rebuilt this engine 10,000 miles ago, sounds like they didn't do it right. I'm ready to freak out on those guys  . but I know it won't help I just have to keep my cool and get it resolved.
Jethro Tull 01-22-2008, 10:24 AM And that, gentlemen, is probably the number one reason why I won't mod this car. Being a conservative old fart sometimes has it's advantages.
Good luck, bose, hope you get it resolved before the weather gets nice again.
Jethro Tull 01-22-2008, 05:27 PM I'm tempted to buy a second engine and keep it stored for the day when my extended warranty is up and I actually have to foot the bill myself. It's definitely going to cost more in the future so maybe getting one now isn't such a bad idea. Of course, the warranty is still good for 5 more years.
Rebuild ~$2,000 (and your old core) New ~$6,000 (Mazda direct)
Installation extra.
DariusDemon 01-23-2008, 05:47 AM That really sucks Bose. I'm sorry!
Phil's 8 01-23-2008, 08:20 AM Bountiful Mazda says I need a new engine, and they won't cover it due to intake and exhaust. Sounds like the same people that own the Vegas Mazda dealerships.
Jethro Tull 01-23-2008, 05:11 PM So, do owners with unmodded cars have relatively smooth warranty experiences?
I've only had one, very minor warranty issue, (a leaky switch on the tranny) and it was about the smoothest experience I could have asked for, at the same dealership that bose is locking horns with.
Does the good, freebie warranty service disappear the moment you bolt on a non-Mazda part?
(-White Ninja-) 01-24-2008, 12:15 PM when i had mine it was all smooth drop the car off. pick it up not dime spend Freeway Mazda in Riverdale is a Good One
Yeah I'm not sure I think it's a combo of how I look and the car I picked, they think young kid too stupid to realize we're screwin him plus he has an rx8 and none of us know anything so let's tell him he's out of warranty and then he'll go away. either that or it's because they already replaced this engine and they don't want to do it again. I don't know, I must of pissed God off somthing fierce to be getting up the tailpipe this hard.
Jethro Tull 01-25-2008, 02:13 AM I've read of a couple people who are on their third engine under warranty, but not sure if they had any mods.
seriouscoin1 01-25-2008, 02:43 PM I just called Mazda roadside assistance, they took care of all of this for me. Even though I did not by mine from a mazda dealer, it's still under warranty. They also gave me a free spare key for the trouble.
seriouscoin1 01-25-2008, 02:44 PM Now I just need to invest in some front tires! Mine are gone! I also just got a new k&n pannel filter.
Jethro Tull 01-28-2008, 08:39 PM What's the latest, bose? Any new developments?
well, I spoke with the owner of the dealership on friday and he said it was a 'clogged cat' that caused the problem, so I had my cat checked, and it is fine so I called him back and told him that, he says 'oh, well i used the wrong term it's not clogged, I'll have you talk to my technician to explain' So the tech Dennis gets on the horn, he says that my 2nd o2 sensor is reading diferently than the stock one so it adjusts the air intake and fuel delivery. Then I interjected and said so that causes seals to blow? his response is no we don't know what caused your seals to go bad, but you reengineered your car so you accept liability. Then I said M. M. W. A. says you have to prove what about my parts caused the problem, he says no you have to prove your parts weren't the cause, I said I have proof my intake is the same as your Mazdaspeed intake, my cat is in perfect condition and my exhaust is more free flowing than the stock none of those parts could cause the seals to blow. He says well we can go back and forth all day on this but your motor is bad and it's not covered. I said alright I see this is how you want to handle it so I'm sending a certified letter to corprate and all my evidence, thanks.
So I've gotten closer on my end but Mazda won't budge, I may never buy another Mazda again because of this bullshit. If the speed3 and 6 weren't so amazing I would say never ever.
Jethro Tull 01-30-2008, 02:50 PM I can certainly understand how you feel, but don't be too quick to villify Mazda. You'd get the same attitude from just about any dealer if you brought in a modded car that you purchased used from someone else and demanded warranty work. Even though the mod probably has nothing to do with the problem, they are essentially calling your bluff. They may cave if you have an attorney represent you- a new engine will cost them less than legal counsel, but I don't see any way you're going to get out of this without spending any money unless Mazda corporate smiles on you.
When I bought my car, I pretty much decided that the only aftermarket parts I would use would be Mazda- just to avoid this very situation. I still have 5 years to go on my extended warranty, and I'm going to get my money's worth.
BTW, even some Mazda parts can affect the warranty...I think the "Orange" parts have no warranty whatsoever.
Your right JT it's not really 'mazda's' fault it's the douche bag tech's and the district manager.
But still:banghead:
Jethro Tull 01-30-2008, 11:01 PM So is it undriveable right now, or are you just driving around with a CEL on?
Crazy thing is she still drives, and very well I don't have major power loss if any really, and there is no cel been off for 2 weeks I can't understand, I'm starting to wonder if they did the test correctly.
Jethro Tull 02-01-2008, 02:20 AM Did you get a compression test?
If it's got good compression, runs reasonably well and the CEL is off, it's probably OK. Keep good plugs, wires, and coils in it, and you're good. Watch your oil consumption and operating temp, have a beer and relax.
Yeah I agree I need to chill since everything seems fine, it's just hard to cause they got me so wound up about it.
Jethro Tull 02-01-2008, 10:59 PM We went out to dinner tonight, and found this Sunlight Silver 8 in the parking lot of the Golden China restaurant on 5600 So. Redwood Road.
Look familiar, anybody?
First local 8 I've seen with "flames". There was a design on the hood, too. Looked like vinyl.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii24/JethroTull1958/Flamer.jpg
Razz1 02-01-2008, 11:47 PM It would look nicer if it had better wheels.
Jethro Tull 02-02-2008, 01:37 AM Personal preference, Razz. To each, his/her own.
I like the stock rims better than any aftermarket rims I've yet seen. So much so, that I own 2 complete sets, plus an extra spare- 9 total. They are understated and go well the car.
I've got a SS myself; I'd keep the rims and lose the vinyl flames.
Don't know who's it is but I saw it on 45th and state at the light. F***ing ugly, needs to ditch the stupid stickers.
Phil's 8 02-04-2008, 12:37 PM Personal preference, Razz. To each, his/her own.

We must think alike. I alo have two sets of stock rims. The ones that are on there now are polished and the other set is waiting to get chrome plating. I really like the stock rim look.

To me, the wheels are an "accent". They should compliment the car, but not tend to continually pull your eye away from the body; the flowing lines of the car itself. To this end, I think the Mazda designers got it just right.
The stock rims on other Mazda models plainly follow the same philosophy. You can tell that they are mostly variations on a theme and all have that Mazda family resemblence.
I love the stock rims, I have an impossible time deciding what aftermarket rims to go with but can't find anything as fitting as the stock ones.
Jethro Tull 02-07-2008, 01:16 AM Damn! I thought were going to get about a week of warmer, dry weather. Now the weatherman is saying it's going to start snowing again tonight and all day Thursday, on-and-off into Friday. Then again on Monday!
I've had enough already. Grumble, grumble...
I am sooooo done with winter i wanna:pfanndina
Jethro Tull 02-09-2008, 02:02 PM Bose and I were just texting about the 40th anniversary edition RX-8. If you haven't seen it yet, D. Dahle Mazda has one in the showroom right now if it hasn't been sold since I saw it last.
I have to admit that the red leather isn't very attractive, especially with the metallic charcoal exterior color, but other than that it's a really nice car. It has strakes and the Bose system, a 40th Anniversary plate on the side.
And interestingly, I don't recall seeing a spoiler on the trunk...but maybe it's just my bad memory.
Let us know what you think if you drop-by and check it out.
seriouscoin1 02-09-2008, 08:38 PM I checked out the 40th anniversary 8 its really nice. I like the tan interior just cause its different. I like the different rims on it as well. It could loose the badges though! Dont know if I like the dark charcoal either.
Jethro Tull 02-16-2008, 02:17 PM The state closed the liquor store on Redwood Road & 34th S. WTH? So where is the next closest one? This is serious...
There's one in Kearns, isn't there, near Bangerter & 54th? Or is it further south?
Hell and damn. :banghead:
seriouscoin1 02-16-2008, 06:40 PM 54th and bangerter is correct!
Jethro Tull 02-16-2008, 06:55 PM ^^Thanks, sc1!
I wonder if they are just re-modeling/rebuilding the one on Redwood, or if the state pulled-out of that location alltogether?
seriouscoin1 02-17-2008, 03:12 PM I dont know but they are crackin down on places that have liquor licenses as well!
Jethro Tull 02-17-2008, 05:50 PM I like having either a beer or Margarita with my dinner. Many of the places my wife and kid like to go to don't serve either. Bummer.
Hey all, Me and some friends are getting together for a drive on Friday night. Meeting at Murray Park at 730. We'll get together show off under the hoods maybe. And then go for a drive. Last week we had at least 12-15 cars/people show up, So if you have a fast car let do this, all kinds of cars will be there wrx's, srt-4's, turbo golf's and jetta's, I'm the only 8 let alone the only Mazda so come on out. If your interested p.m. me with your phone number so I can keep you updated.
Jethro Tull 02-18-2008, 11:53 AM Hope it works out, bose. The weatherman is saying that our next storm blows-in Wednesday night and we'll have rain and snow through next weekend. If it's clear and dry I might be persuaded to tag along.
Jethro Tull 02-18-2008, 05:16 PM Weatherman is giving a better outlook for Friday every time I check. Now the storm "isn't expected to do much".
yodaddy 02-20-2008, 06:17 PM Sorry to jack your thread but in case any of you didn't know there is a local rotary site that a lot of us hang out on and we would love to have more involvement from the rx-8 group. we have an rx-8 section that has been pretty dead for quite a while. we also have meets that would be be much nicer if we could get you guys out there with the rx-7 guys. check it out www.slcrotary.com
Jethro Tull 02-21-2008, 12:10 AM I just registered, yodaddy. Waiting for the administrator to activate me.
It will be good to meet more locals. I didn't know there were many rotary enthusiasts in and around SLC.
My first was a 1980 RX-7, purchased BN in late '79 for the sum of $10,300. I sure do miss that car.
I have also registered, like a month ago and am still waiting for the admin. to activate my account. I have been to the site many times l lurk around and read a bunch of threads. So if you can get ahold of someone who activates accounts let 'em know.
Jethro Tull 02-21-2008, 01:03 PM Maybe they don't really want any new members...
yodaddy 02-21-2008, 01:42 PM would you guys mind posting your user names here? if they're any different. the site as been getting destroyed by spammers lately so the admin is having a tough time getting new members registered in a timely manner. I'll pass them along to him and make him aprove them.
Jethro Tull 02-21-2008, 02:56 PM I have the same user name on all the rotary forums I belong to. I used it on slcrotary.com as well.
I have the same user name also. Thanks brother.
Jethro Tull 02-23-2008, 04:19 PM Two days later and still nothin, yodaddy.
Would love to join...if the Website worked.
yodaddy 02-25-2008, 06:30 PM you guys shold be registered now, let me know if there are any problems.
Jethro Tull 02-26-2008, 05:24 PM I saw that silver 8 with the black vinyl "flames" again the other day. I think he works near the FedEx building off U-201 & 3600 W. He looks like a 30-ish white guy with a shaved head.
Jethro Tull 03-09-2008, 11:28 PM Wasatch front shout-out- who's up and running? DariusDemon, you still around? seriouscoin? bose? kobe?
The snow is gone, time for a spring get-together.
46 & 2 03-10-2008, 07:43 PM Saw the famous Silver RX-8 with "flames" parked at a house on 98th. I couldn't help but laugh a little as I passed it, having read about it on here.
seriouscoin1 03-10-2008, 08:48 PM Im here.
Jethro Tull 03-11-2008, 01:36 AM Hey, welcome 46 & 2. You own an 8?
Guys, the company is sending me out of town this weekend, but I'll be back by next Saturday the 22nd. We're supposed to get snow by this weekend anyway. Let's aim for something either one or two weeks from Saturday, weather permitting. If it's still crappy, we could at least have dinner or grab a pizza maybe?
I'm free on the weekends, it's sounds like a plan to me man.
Jethro Tull 03-13-2008, 02:16 AM I'll post when I get back to town and we can set a date/place/time.
I saw a girl driving a yellow '04 today, and a guy about my age drivig a SS on Foothill Tuesday night. We flew in formation for a few miles before I had to turn-off.
46 & 2 03-14-2008, 11:12 AM Yeah, I picked me up an 8 about two months ago. 05, Pearl White, Manual, Touring, 18k miles. I can be seen driving 215 from Bountiful to South Jordan most days. Its been a fun little ride, although gas mileage is killing me.
Good deal welcome to the club. white is a very nice color.
Jethro Tull 03-14-2008, 03:08 PM Yeah, I picked me up an 8 about two months ago. 05, Pearl White, Manual, Touring, 18k miles. I can be seen driving 215 from Bountiful to South Jordan most days. Its been a fun little ride, although gas mileage is killing me.
I saw you passing the Boeing building by the airport last week. I was northbound, driving my Explorer. My 8 is mostly a weekend car only.
Jethro Tull 03-14-2008, 06:54 PM There's a gray RX8 & sometimes a beater FB RX7 parked in front of the Pep Boys on 35th so. in West Valley. Seen it too many times to be a customer there, must be an employee. Cal plates on the 8.
Anybody?
I've seen that gray 8 with cali plate as well, I have seen him in several places, so I can't really pin down where they live.
Jethro Tull 03-15-2008, 03:12 PM I got a good look at the gray 8 yesterday. Quite a few door dings and not kept clean, at least not when I've seen it. Might have an aftermarket exhaust but the pipes are totally black with soot.
BTW, my 8 turned one year old on Monday. Still NOT ONE door ding! Just a few tiny paint chips on the nose. The noses of these cars sure take a beating. I may put the mask back on there once it warms up.
I'm off to Seattle for a few days, talk to you guys when I get back next weekend.
Yeah the nose takes a beating.
I'm sick of this weather. It needs to stay nice so I car wash my friggin car and it stay clean.:icon_no2:
Jethro Tull 03-21-2008, 11:22 PM I'm back from Seattle. Got to meet 05TiGr8Lady! Terrific, beautiful, gracious, intelligent lady.
I also got a heckuva chest cold and am just wiped-out tonight. I hope it doesn't last long.
Tonight I noticed a SS 8 going west on 54th south & about 3200 west- and it had a big sheet-metal wrinkle just ahead of the drivers-side front side vent. Anybody? Looked like a young guy driving.
I'll post some of the camera-phone shots I took on my trip when I feel better. Hurts to even breathe right now. Think I'll go sit in my 8, that'll make me feel better. :)
05TiGr8Lady 03-22-2008, 04:04 AM Hey JT, thanks! It was a blast meeting you too!
Ugh... sorry you got sick. D'ya think it was related to the stomache thing? Hope you feel better soon.
If you're gonna post camera pics, pleez don't do the one of me... pleez...:uhh:
Jethro Tull 03-22-2008, 09:12 PM ^^I'm beginning to think that the stomach pain may in fact have been the first symptom, so the good people at the Mad Crab are off the hook, lol. Last night my fever peaked and after some drenching sweats I felt like I just might pull-through this morning. Spent most of the day medicated and napping on the couch with my cat keeping me company...after a drive in my 8 this morning, of course!
No worries on the photo, although for the life of me I can't figure out why beautiful women are so self-conscious about photos of themselves...
05TiGr8Lady 03-22-2008, 09:56 PM Glad to hear you're doing better! And thanks :)
Shawna_ 03-23-2008, 03:28 PM We just bought a 2006 Shinka from ken garf volvo in draper.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
We live in orem........
Jethro Tull 03-24-2008, 07:49 PM Pulled up next to a girl in a SS today at the bank. I didn't roll down my window and say anything because I was in my old Explorer. If I told her I had a car just like hers, she'd be thinking "what a liar!" lol. She had a baby in an infant seat in back, and her license plate said DEMOGRL. When she left the bank, I last saw her going south on Redwood road & 4700 so. Anybody?
DariusDemon 03-25-2008, 06:03 AM Ok yeah I'm I'm here haha! Guess what happened today though? Sumb dumbass in a WRX pulled right into me while I was passing him in the turn lane. Guess he changed his mind about going straight and without warning or a blinker or anything just smacked me. Damage wasnt too bad just a little scratched and dented on the front left fender. Good part is I messed up the weather guard in the wheel well a few months ago when I hit a rabbit doing 90mph. So at least I can blame that on the accident and get it fixed for free :D He also scratched up my rim so I should be getting reinbursed for that too. (I'm thinking about buying all new rims though, "wheel" see...haha wheel...)
That's sh!tty darius, at least it's nothing too terrible, you and another utah forum member both got hit. bad luck.
Anyone do any mods this winter? I did a couple, intake exhaust, tint, painted my emblems black, and painted my engine cover. All very clean looking IMHO.
Jethro Tull 03-25-2008, 11:40 AM Anyone do any mods this winter?
You know me, Mr. Stock.
No performance mods until the extended warranty expires- only 95, 300 miles to go! lol.
Jethro Tull 03-25-2008, 11:44 AM Ok yeah I'm I'm here haha!
Hey, Big D, I was wondering where you've been. Too bad about the fender bender, that definitely sucks.
What have you been up to lately?
I wish I could be satisfiyed with that but everything I do just HAS to be custom for my whole life I've been like this.
Jethro Tull 03-25-2008, 04:26 PM Think of it this way, bose:
There are 162,000 8's with tinted windows.
There are 73,000 8's with that same custom exhaust.
There are 3,600 8's with blacked-out emblems.
"Custom" is a relative term.
Man, am I a party pooper, or what? ;)
kobe24mvp 03-25-2008, 11:57 PM Ok yeah I'm I'm here haha! Guess what happened today though? Sumb dumbass in a WRX pulled right into me while I was passing him in the turn lane. that sucks man, i got hit like 2 weeks ago, some girl turned right into me when i was at a stop sign, $3500 dollars in damage. i should get my car back tomorrow though. i get a new bumper, fender, and headlight, plus they're going to refinish my hood so no more rock chips for me!!
kobe24mvp 03-26-2008, 12:05 AM I bought this last week, still have and love my RX8 though :)
2008 Alpine White BMW Z4 3.0si Roadster
CDUBYAZ 03-26-2008, 10:31 AM Yo guys whats up, goin to pick up my 8 tonight! should be pretty sick, just got out of a 04 Pontiac GTO. goin with an 8 now, pretty stoked.
Jethro Tull 03-26-2008, 11:08 AM Welcome to the fold, CDUBYAZ! If we meet this weekend, be sure to join us. Keeping our fingers crossed that the rain/snow predicted for Thursday will be over with by Saturday.
Jethro Tull 03-26-2008, 11:10 AM There's a grey '04 for sale, on 3200 west, just about a block south of Lancer Way. Seller wants $16,500 and it has a cracked windshield. No idea how many miles. Looks like it's due for registration in April- he probably doesn't want to buy that new windshield so he can pass inspection.
CDUBYAZ 03-26-2008, 11:19 AM Yeah for sure! Hey just outta curiousity who are the best techs around here to go to for getting work done on 8's?
Welcome brother. Best tech's unfortunatly are going to be Mazda, but there is so much info on here, you may not even need them.
Jethro thanks for that bud!
J/K I know custom is relative, but with those it makes it feel more like mine. i don't know maybe I just like spending money.
Jethro Tull 03-26-2008, 01:14 PM i don't know maybe I just like spending money.
I'm married so my wife spends money for me. Man, does she spend money...:eyetwitch
Jethro Tull 03-26-2008, 03:24 PM Looking like rain and snow on Saturday. Of course! Grrr.....
http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=88
me no likey:icon_no2: aaarrrrrggggghhh
very nice, did you get the 6sp. or the automagic? Good choice and welcome to the cult er uh club.
DariusDemon 03-26-2008, 09:34 PM I've been good Jethro. Just busy with work, school, the gym and sleep. Haha. Yeah I'm getting an estimate tomorrow so we'll see what the damage is.
Jethro Tull 03-26-2008, 09:54 PM It's just cosmetic damage, right? Get her fixed so we can have her for a get-together/cruise.
I've sure seen a lot more 8's this spring than last year. Saw 2 on the way home from work today within the span of 2 minutes.
anyone else going crazy at work with nadda to do?
Jethro Tull 03-27-2008, 04:16 PM I'm waiting for my last employee to punch out, then I'm outa here.
CDUBYAZ 03-28-2008, 12:30 PM Whats up fellas?
Hey what kind of oil are you guys usin? and how often do you have to add it in?
Thanks for the help!!!!
right now I'm using Castrol gtx 5w20 conventional, as for adding oil maybe a 1/3 quart every 2-3 weeks, rule of thumb is check it every other fill up and add as needed.
That said there are many people using many different kinds, me I am switching this spring/summer to a heavier weight, 10w30. cause that's what mazda reccomends for the 8 in every country but america. best thing to do is read your owners manual, it seems to have answers to your more basic questions.
CDUBYAZ 03-28-2008, 02:08 PM Cool. Thanks man. Yeah thats what i figured but as i was searchin around the forums i saw a few different things so i was just curious. Also have u guys had any heater unit problems? like it totally going out on you? ha mine just blows cold. which pretty much blows. I am taking it in on monday to mazda to fix it as well as a couple other things i am not impressed with in the car. Other then that its been fun drivin, im gonna go through tires fast though im afraid haha.
my heater has done that twice, all I did was turn the knob from heat to cold back to heat and it took off. What other issues you havin?
CDUBYAZ 03-28-2008, 04:18 PM Well ya i tried that a few times but it just keeps goin out.
My oil light comes on every once in a while but the oil is full when i check it i dunno, it needs an oil change so we'll see what happens after i do that. Idle is a little rough if the AC is on well it seems to be a little rough on and off throughout a drive. Maybe thats just normal i dunno.
bose, how do you like cai? Does it make much different in sound?
Yeah definatly have mazda check the oil light out asap, but it sounds like your on top of it, and the idle should be smooth could be motor mounts? I wouldn't quote me on that though.
As for the cai I like it alot it seems to have slightly better pick up but mainly it made it LOUD I mean it screams like a banshee above 7500rpm and with my hi-flow cat and exhaust I shoot flames. Pretty sick IMO. But I only went with the aem cause I got a good deal, if I did it again I would have gone with the k&n version 2, or the racing beat revi intake, but it's all preference.
CDUBYAZ 03-28-2008, 06:53 PM Yeah man thats sick about your exhaust, i like the sounds of that for sure. The cai, yeah i was thinkin bout goin with a K&N but like u said about it bein loud, thats what i want i think they sound so sick with and intake on em. do you know of anywhere local where i could pick on up at?
DariusDemon 03-28-2008, 07:17 PM I've got a short ram K&N air intake on mine and it sounds AWESOME. Part of the reason I bought the car lol. Oh and yes my damage was all cosmetic. The bill came to 1313.23 and the kids dad wants to pay for it himself.
Jethro Tull 03-28-2008, 08:53 PM Darius, have you picked a bodyshop yet? I hope you got more than one estimate. About how long till she's good as new?
Well, guys, I've been running the Idemitsu premix for 2 tanks of gas now, at half the recommended rate. I'm using 1/4 oz. per gallon of gas. Seems to start smoother, idle smoother, and get slightly better mileage. Too soon to really tell on the mileage but the engine is definitely smoother.
My only mod is clear corners and a Mazda bear in the back seat, lol.
seriouscoin1 03-29-2008, 12:41 AM Hi guys how goes it? Sorry I have not been in the forum lately been busy preparing for my first kid! I just got a k&n panel filter, tinted my tail lights and tinted the fog lights yellow. I would of course like to do more but its still under warranty and came in handy 5-6 times already! Already need new tires!
Jethro Tull 03-29-2008, 02:48 AM Hey, serious, good to hear from you! Glad you managed to hang onto the car. Got the infant seat for the back yet? :)
Yeah, no big mods for me, either, until the warranty expires. And I bought the extended warranty-6 years or 100,000 miles on everything! Probably going to be 6 years since I'm putting less than 5 thousand miles a year on it. Just hit 4750 today and it's been nearly 13 months since I bought it.
Had it in to D. Dahle's for a tire rotation today. They would do it free at Legacy, where I bought it, but it would have cost me $15 in gas to get there and back, and D. Dahle only charged me $12.
Most of the Mazdaspeed parts won't affect the warranty, though, except the ones in the "orange" section of the catalog. Blue are OK, and most green. But you have to have a Mazda dealer install them.
DariusDemon 03-29-2008, 03:25 AM I only went to one shop, it's a place we've used plenty of times before and i know they do good work. Besides im not paying for it so I dont really care if there's a better deal somewhere else that and I dont want to waste my time and money looking for one for this guy. I've waisted enough time as it is. I'm not sure when it will be done. I got to call monday and set up an appointment.
Shawna_ 03-29-2008, 01:02 PM We got the 6 speed, Bought it used with 8000 miles on it. It has 13000 now. :)
WreakLoosE 03-29-2008, 02:41 PM Hay guys whats good...
Ok.. after not soo long thought and MUCH MUCH MUCH WANTING IN MY HEART.... I AM SOOOOO TRYING TO COME BACK TO THE RX8 PACK... If anybody has knows anybody looking to sell a black RX8 >70 k miles for arround 15-17 LET ME KNOW... I want to keep my WRX for the winter so I will have two cars... However my first milestone is to talk my wife into letting me get another RX8 hehe.. Oh yea it MUST BE STICK. no autos for me thanx... body must be in fair condition... I dont want a battle scared car... Cloth seats are fine by me... if it has extra goodies thats would be nice.
ps... I miss you guys... *hugs*.
Jethro Tull 03-29-2008, 03:37 PM Tony! Dude, it's good to hear from you! I had a feeling you'd be looking for another 8 sooner rather than later. I'll keep my eyes open for you...but not too many used black ones...lots of what you used to have.
If you start Jonesing too bad, I'll let you visit your old hood, lol.
Post more often!
kobe24mvp 03-31-2008, 01:10 AM we gotta get together for a drive sometime! I get jealous when i see picture of other people getting together for a drive!!
CDUBYAZ 03-31-2008, 11:06 AM Just dropped the 8 off at D.Dahle this morning had to drive in this shi* snow man that was fun with no heat in the car haha, froze my azz off dudes. i gave them a whole list of stuff to work on though so we will see how that pans out this afternoon i guess. after that i have a appt at my boys body and paint shop to do a few things for me on the car... then after thats done i have a custom leather package ordered, (black on the outside of the seats with white leather on the inside, w/ white stitching) what do you guys think?
Also does anyone know of somewhere local to pick up a short ram K&N CAI?
Thanks guys, and i agree w kobe on the drive! :)
WreakLoosE 03-31-2008, 11:17 AM LOL Thanks...I am so wanting another 8 ive been looking and looking and droping hints to the wife... I would love to come by and check out my old hood and give it a little rub and say...ooooh.. LOL... but the funnest thing happend a few months ago... I saw my car with its new owner passing the other way on the freeway... I was all HAY! THATS MY CAR.... Awwww....I told my wife and she laughed at me.... That woman is EVIL..
I like the idea for your seat's how much are those runnin for? As far as getting the k&n local, not too likely. I would just order from someone online, there are tons of vendors on this site, and many others that sell them. I remember looking for a local one but no one had it.
Tony-good to hear from you. I saw your 8 the other day too, and I was sad. If your want to you can come rev my 8 up.
DariusDemon 03-31-2008, 01:45 PM You wanna see sad? you should see my car. Not only was i hit the other day but I just smacked the center wall on I-15, twice at 4am this morning...I knew i shouldnt have ventured into that shit when I looked out the window this morning. O well, when all is said and done I'm actually gonna come out a few dollars richer lol. But as for a meet? I probably have 2 weeks till Im good to go but we'll see.
I would cry...well once you get her fixed we need to meet. We need a large crew of 8's to roam the streets.
Jethro Tull 03-31-2008, 09:37 PM Darius, I feel your pain. No 8 owner should have to go through that! I called-in sick today with the flu, so I missed the "fun" in the snow- thankfully.
Guys, this time of year, the twisty canyon roads are too wet and cold for giving it what-for, so we are probably limited to a straight-line run. I'm thinking Wendover, or maybe just out to Miller Motorsports Park for lunch and a look-around, then back to town. Once I get over this damn flu, anyway.
Whatdya think?
kobe24mvp 03-31-2008, 09:47 PM yeah im up for just a drive to miller motorsports park for now, but when the weather gets better we gotta do a canyon run!! still havent gotten my car back, but should get it back tomorrow morning, when they were doing the alignment, they found out my tie rod end was bent so they replaced that and did the alignment today.
kobe24mvp 03-31-2008, 11:57 PM Hay guys whats good...

my car fits what your looking for, except for less miles.. I thought about selling it after i bought my BMW, but i love it too much sorry!! :evil_laug
Jethro Tull 04-01-2008, 12:02 AM when the weather gets better we gotta do a canyon run!
The canyons are the best runs for the 8, no doubt, but I'm running the Dunlops and they just won't grip if it's 45-degrees and/or wet. I'd be sliding all over the road if I went up there now, and I don't want to drift right over the edge of a 200-foot cliff! We'll just have to wait until winter is over up there. It will be worth the wait.
WreakLoosE 04-01-2008, 12:02 AM LOL yes indeed that would fit the void that is endlessly growing deeper in my soul...
I like the RX8 better by the way but the BMW is faster....lol...
Jethro Tull 04-01-2008, 12:10 AM The RX-8 is a car with a soul, no doubt about it.
When I was car shopping last year, I test-drove many cars, some much faster than the 8. MUCH faster. None handled better, and in the end the 8 was fast enough for me. It can get me in trouble in a hurry just the way it is, lol.
None of those other cars put a smile on my face the way the 8 does. The only other car that gave me a similar feeling was my '80 RX-7- and the 8 does it better. I made the right choice. ;)
WreakLoosE 04-01-2008, 09:35 AM Yea... My WRX is very quick but the handling of the 8 is the best.. Also the way the interrior just wraps you in a warm hug of sportyness is great... in the WRX i feel like im driving a ford escort when I sit down in it.
kobe24mvp 04-01-2008, 12:31 PM Yeah i know what you guys mean.. There's something just about the mazda that i can't really point out that just makes it so fun to drive and i dont want to give that up! I finally get to go pick it up today after 3 weeks in the body shop!! No more rock chips!!
Jethro Tull 04-01-2008, 03:11 PM My wife and I are sick right now with this flu bug that's going around, but I took my 8 out to run a couple of errands (When both husband & wife are sick, guess who gets to go to the pharmacy?).
For the time I spent behind the wheel, I felt almost cured. There I was, weak, sick, feverish, yet I didn't want to get out of the car when I got home. No other car has ever done that for me, and I've driven some that cost 3 times as much.
I noticed a yellow 8 on 35th so. today, with temp. tags on it. Looked like a young driver in a used '04 (the only year they made yellow).
I know what you mean about the looks, Tony. Same thing with the Evo's I've driven. It's like someone dropped a turbo in a Pinto or other little grocery-getter, uninspired car. I just can't get excited over a car that has no visual appeal no matter how fast it goes or how big the exhaust. A fast turd is still a turd.
The RX-8 is a well-rounded package, and the rotary engine is icing on the cake.
spot on, spot on, Jethro.
I saw a black 8 on 215 on Friday he and I were heading east I got off at 20th and he kept going, and yesterday spotted a winning blue on Fort Union and Union Park. (1300 east& 7200 south) heading east on Fort Union, gave him the peace sign and lit up my tires.
kobe24mvp 04-02-2008, 01:13 AM ... and the rotary engine is icing on the cake.
that is true. i finally got mine back today and i forgot how much i miss the sound of my rotary and how much i missed driving it. I didnt even touch my beamer today
kobe24mvp 04-02-2008, 01:15 AM The canyons are the best runs for the 8, no doubt, but I'm running the Dunlops and they just won't grip if it's 45-degrees and/or wet. I'd be sliding all over the road if I went up there now, and I don't want to drift right over the edge of a 200-foot cliff! We'll just have to wait until winter is over up there. sounds good to me.. lets plan a date in advance so we can get a lot of us up there
weather looks dismal for the weekend :icon_no2: hopefully it changes but good lord I need some sun.
DariusDemon 04-03-2008, 07:14 AM Wait for ME!!!!
Leesha 04-03-2008, 07:56 AM DD:^^^^What kind of name is that???? (btw...thats my sons first name...) Go post some stories if you have any in my Ghost thread... ;)
Be careful what you wish for...
WreakLoosE 04-04-2008, 12:23 AM aww... I miss my rx8 :(
DariusDemon 04-04-2008, 05:52 AM Lol I've been usng "Darius" as a screename since I was like 10. My sister helped me pick it out cause it meant like powerful and strong or something like that. I probably slapped demon on the end because "Darius" was always taken and I thought DariusDemon sounded cool when I was 10 and now its my screename for everything and If I change it it'll be too confusing!
BTW I'm gonna call the repair shop and ask them to change a few things. I'm thinking I'm going to have them take all the emblems off. All of them, so it's just pure black. Also I'm going to ask them to put in some clear corners. Then later I'm thinking I'll smoke those, the tail lights, and head lights. What do you guys think?
I like the debadge idea, but personally I would leave the side markers clear but still tint the lights. Either way I like the idea.
Jethro Tull 04-04-2008, 01:23 PM Darius, if you get the clear corners you'll need to get yellow bulbs or LEDs. The stock bulbs are clear and you risk getting pulled-over with clear corners on clear bulbs.
I went with the cluster of 5 amber LEDs on a common base when I installed my clears. If you want I'll find the part number & supplier for you.
Smoked clears might actually look good on an all-black 8.
I ordered mine from mazdatrix they are like 35 each and came with yellow bulbs, I ordered the 'sleath' bulbs for another 30. They are the kind that are chrome but illuminate amber.
Jethro Tull 04-04-2008, 06:11 PM I'd like to see your bulbs, bose. The V-LED's that I use look terrific at night; less than spectacular in daylight.
I got my corners from a guy in Japan on eBay, $50/pair but no bulbs.
CDUBYAZ 04-07-2008, 11:10 AM This weather sucks!!!!
CDUBYAZ 04-07-2008, 11:10 AM Oh by the way i got smoked by a Lexus IS 350 yesterday haha... wow i need a turbo!
Jethro Tull 04-07-2008, 02:25 PM Oh by the way i got smoked by a Lexus IS 350 yesterday haha... wow i need a turbo!
Get used to it. If you want kills, the 8 isn't the car for you. Even a turbo won't do it against a lot of other cars. The Renesis compression ratio is too high for a lot of boost without blowing out seals. You can only go so-far, and that's not far enough for some of the fast cars out there.
Here's what you want in a turbo RX-8:
http://www.autotechmotorsports.com/project-rx8.htm
CDUBYAZ 04-07-2008, 03:15 PM Thats good info Jethro thanks, i knew it was gonna beat it but it was my cousins car and we were just messin around. Hell my GTO was twice as fast as that 350 and i still got rid of it for the 8. Call me crazy but its just so much more fun to drive!
Jethro Tull 04-07-2008, 04:00 PM Call me crazy but its just so much more fun to drive!
And there you go, you hit the nail on the head! :)
For almost a year, I was convinced that I was going to buy a Mustang. Test drove several and ohmyghod that V8 was a fast car.
But as soon as I test drove the 8, even though it was markedly slower than the Ford, I knew it was the car for me. As soon as a silver one showed-up at a dealership last year, I was there with my cash in hand.
The 8 is the most fun to drive car I've ever experienced. Not the fastest, but the funnest.
WreakLoosE 04-07-2008, 09:54 PM Hay guys, I spoke to the wife and let her know I wanted to get another RX8 and to my suprise she took it quite well. The only thing now is laying the ground work to get it... I got some work cut out for my self but I am sure going to try.. SWEET!
kobe24mvp 04-08-2008, 12:30 PM sweet! hope if works out for you!
Yes, you must rejoin the ranks!
Klone 04-08-2008, 03:23 PM You should definitely try and keep the WRX, trying to drive the RX8 in snow was a pain around here, and I was not about to put snow tires on it, so it just sat for a few weeks at a time. I do miss the interior of the RX8, as well as the smoothness. Anyway, enjoy the WRX if you get rid of it you will miss it.
Weather is supposed to be fantastic this weekend. Everybody we need to have a meet, like this weekend. Where to meet is the real question where is a spot that is centrally located cause I know we have people in west valley to provo to ogden and shiz, so let get this organized.
kobe24mvp 04-10-2008, 12:39 AM i'm living in provo right now, but ill be home in sandy this weekend
Jethro Tull 04-10-2008, 01:16 AM I'm glad it's not "either-or" for me. I garage my 8 in winter and drive my Explorer. We also have a Forester. My 8 never sees snow.
I think WreakLoosE's wife has an Explorer, too.
Jethro Tull 04-10-2008, 01:21 AM E-Center again, maybe? It's pretty centrally located...but only if there's no event scheduled that day. We could get a bite at the Chili's or Applebee's next door.
Whatever is clever! What day works best for people.
Jethro Tull 04-10-2008, 12:54 PM Green Day is playing there on Saturday so the place will be a mess. Nothing scheduled for Sunday so maybe that would work...afternoon, so everyone can get out of church first?
No church for me, I worship the rotary gods so they get mad if I don't drive.
DariusDemon 04-10-2008, 05:37 PM I dont get mine back till monday! oh and the repairs after i hit the wall....$7k....
Jethro Tull 04-11-2008, 02:14 AM Oh, man, Darius, I feel your pain. How much of that is out-of-pocket?
What do you guys think about a run to Evanston on the 20th, to meet pfloydss? Weather/road conditions permitting? DD, you'll be back on the road by then.
I think that would be fun. Plus I have been to Vision Video in a long time so why not.
DariusDemon 04-11-2008, 06:00 PM pfloydss? Vision Video? Zuh? Actually none of it will be out of pocket, Im actually going to be making money off this haha. I wouldnt mind a run to Evanston but what are these places/people we're talking about?
seriouscoin1 04-11-2008, 08:42 PM CDUBYAZ- Wow almost thought I read IS 300, those we can beat. IS 350 are alot quicker. Oh well, I love my car anyways.
pfloydss 04-11-2008, 10:34 PM I might be doing a trunk swap with a guy from SLC and I'm in Green River Wyoming so Evanston is half way. We are probably doing it on the 20th if all goes right. We can meet up and have some lunch after we swap them.
Jethro Tull 04-12-2008, 12:06 AM I have a premonition that most of you guys will be coming back from Evanston with a trunkload of porn, fireworks, and beer! :lol2:
floyd, we can all stand around and supervise the trunk swap. Just what you need to make the job go smoothly.
pfloydss 04-12-2008, 08:31 AM More chiefs is what everybody needs. Hell yea! Hope it all works out.
