My uncle said he's lookin to buy a new car in the next couple months. He gave me a list of options that he's lookin at. All cars with an Automatic Transmission. Give me your opinion!

2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS
2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8
2009 Audi S5
2010 Ford Mustang GT (new model)
2009 BMW 335i
2009 Hyundai Genesis Coupe V6
2009 Nissan 370Z
2009 Infiniti G37
2009 Nissan Altima Coupe V6
In your vote, please take into consideration: looks, price, warranty, hp, torque, 0-60 time, weight, reliability, and depreciation value.

Sorry, an RX-8 doesnot meet his standards... :(

Thanks!

This list is all over the map price, performance and purpose wise. It's stupid. Tell your uncle to go drive the cars and pick the one he wants. How people on the internet are supposed to decide is beyond me.

This is too broad of a list. He needs to think about what he wants. Straight out speed? Handling? Style? Luxury? Mix of all? Price? And where the hell did Altima come in on this list lol.

For straight speed, I would say Camaro (esp. with modability, if he is into that)
Handling I would say Cayman or 370
Style would be a hard choice (and very subjective)
Luxury would be S5, maybe Cayman.
you get the idea....Ask him what he wants/expects from a car

Ridiculous list. Might as well as throw darts for it.
No mention of what he wants in a car... ridiculous.

^^^true

I just went by the reasoning that if its his uncle he may want luxury more than raw sportcar so thats why I went with the S5 G37

Love the new Camaro but I wouldn't touch it if it was an auto. So I picked the Audi S5 those cars look amazing inside and out and are pretty damn fast...

Straight line? Or mixed? Does he mod? sound of exhaust or sound system?

Best thing to do, really, is for him to drive them all.

No he does mod at all. Sound of system.

For him, it seems the ones he should go out and test drive are the S5, 335i, 370/g37, and cayman. Once he drives those, he should get a feel for what he wants

I voted S5 as well. I'm not sure why mustang is on a list with the S5, 335i etc. Then again, I'm not a fan of mustangs... just seems like it doesnt belong on that list. Even the Camaro and Challenger fit in better I think.

Those are too small for him I guess...

And ya just cuz the altima makes 287hp and the genesis makes 306...close enough to the 335i and new mustang that I guess he wanted to consider those as well...

and btw, the cayman option is just the base, not the "S" version of it

I have to agree with those that said the list is pretty broad. If he knows what he likes this shouldn't be a tough decision for him.

I have to admit that the 370Z has caught my eye. I'm not in love with it, but it has some strong points that I can appreciate.

Bus pass. Nice!! :)

I just bought the Dodge Challenger. I love it. This car is for your dad, he will also love it. It has classic styling (the best retro look IMO), great HP and torque, a decent price and is a major headturner.

He will love it.

Lol okay, but I'd like to hear about the Challenger's interior from an owner...specifically from theCATALYST.

But yes, I agree with you on the 300, my Uncle has one as well, and even with heated seats and the navi it still seemed to just not be very satisfying..

That's a rude thing to say about someone's new car. Have you driven one? The rumor of the car being too big is laughable at best. It's a car designed after the muscle cars of America's past. I own a boat as well and I don't see the comparison, but I guess driving behind me and never catching up, a person wouldn't see enough to make a comparison.

How does the interior compare to the 8's?

Having owned both the RX8 and the Challenger, I can say I like the Challenger's interior much better. The RX8 was designed to be lightweight, and in doing so, a lot of cheap plastics where used. Not to mention a circular stereo that posed a problem for anyone wanting to go aftermarket with their headunit. The Challenger has a very "grown up" feel to it, it is spacious around the driver, very simple layout of the dash, and being a car that was already on the heavy side, nothing was skimped to save weight. It has the horsepower to get it moving, and very good handling for a caar of it's size, but it doesn't compare to an RX8 in the twisties, but lets face it, not lot of cars out there can.

I am no spokesman for Dodge, nor do I really care what others think, but you started this thread because your dad is looking for a car. And like I said, I love mine, and I can guarentee you he would love it too.

I own the R/T model (pics are in the lounge). Although I origionally wanted the SRT8, after doing some study, the 10k price difference didn't justify the SRT8 over the R/T. And when looking at available aftermarket mod's ....I found more to be available for the R/T, so that made the decision for me.

SE 3.5L V6 - 250 HP, 250T ------- 4 Speed Auto, or 5 Speed Auto
RT 5.7L V8 HEMI - 370HP, 390 ft lb Torque ------- 5 Speed Auto, 6 Speed Manual
SRT8 6.1L V8 HEMI - 425HP, 420 ft lb Torque ------- 5 Speed Auto, 6 Speed Manual

Sorry to tell you this but the car IS BIG, and you can notice it when you drive it. Yes I did drive one and I did not like it. I hat how the interior looks old and not modern, I hate the ugly chrysler/dodge steering wheel. I hate that it feels like a boat in turns and not on rails like the RX8 feels. And yes your car may be faster but the RX8 feels better and handles worlds better.

Sorry for the reality check!

I like how you say things like the "cayman has only 265 bhp", and yet you fail to mention it weighs at least 500 pounds less than the average weight of the others.

Since you both have no idea what you want except reliability I'm going to go with the Altima.

That's the only one of the bunch I'm going to call reliable.

All the German stuff will be as dicey as the American stuff in that regard. If you don't believe me just check consumer reports.

And 370z/G37 first model year is a bad idea for reliability as well.
